    Hi, where did you get your basking platform and will that fit a 20 gal tank?

    Also you should use REPTISAFE for the water...not fish safe start. The reptisafe also contains electrolytes and is rated for turtles.

    Lovely video, I got my terrapins yesterday and they wouldn't bask but I know why its because they moved environments quick and I'm a new owner to them, but I tried hand feeding them and they ate from me :)

    how do you get your turtle to be used to you?

    • @kristen4301
      @kristen4301 6 лет назад +2

      K Williams probably too late but if anyone’s reading this, I had my RES since she was a half inch (9 inches now) and once or a few times a week I’d let her free roam with supervision around the house. I’d also let her chill with me on my bed till she got bored, and fed her with my fingers until she got big enough to bite me. Some turtles have different attitudes, so I possibly just got lucky. I do credit being hands on with her at a young age is why she won’t even bite the vet

    So how do I get my basking area warmer, I have the correct heat lamp and it only reaches approximately 82 so I don’t think that’s hot enough for my African Sideneck

    hi. my turtle is 5.5 inches (head +shell). this is my first time having a turtle. he (or she) is not basking even though there is a basking area. I tried to put heating light but still not basking. my turtle's tank is 20×10×12 inches.
    I want to know how big the tank should be and how much water to give. also I tried to buy Oasis basking ramp and when I measured the tank, the large size ramp is to big for my tank. if you can give me any advice, I really appreciate.

      +Sylvia Park get a larger tank and make it very private with lots of foliage and plants especially duck weed and water lettuce

      What kind of turtle? If its an African Sideneck this youtube channel has been providing severely false information regarding them. She claims they are "avid baskers," they are not. They prefer hiding and staying in the water. They are not big baskers AT ALL. So if you have a sideneck, I wouldn't worry, totally normal.

    • @blakebarber5750
      @blakebarber5750 6 лет назад

      A lot of false information on this channel from temp ranges to individual care for turtles discussed...side necks rarely bask they aren’t sliders or painted turtles and they will rarely leave the water by choice...also no matter your species...your tank is too small...turtles are measured from front of shell to back of shell...not head to tail...so yours is pretty small but nonetheless if they do by have an adequately sized environment it can seriously stress them ,lower immune response and make them terminally ill...buy one tank one time and be done with it to avoid the incremental expense of upgrading each time your turtle out grows his enclosure...go buy a used 120 gallon or larger and only keep ONE turtle in it...you will spend less in the long run and your turtle will be happier and healthier...honestly there should be a way to report these hobbyists who wake up one day and decide the fact that they own a smart phone and a turtle makes them RUclips turtle experts....I have seen several giving out horrible information and even with animals in horrific condition all over their videos... I usually stay away from RUclips as a source of care information for my turtles and keep to my 30 years of experience and the truly knowledgeable keepers and professionals I’ve been blessed to absorbed into my circle...this youtuber means well and the advice of not playing around when it’s time for a vet visit is spot on but really that’s about all she got right...it only takes one tidbit of misinformation to completely throw off your husbandry ...my suggestion...read a book...they are these square things with a lot of paper inside called pages and you would be blown away at the amount of useful information that is hidden away inside of them

    I have A Red Ear Slider turtle and want to know if i can keep it outside by making a rectangle in the dirt and filling that in with a large container filled with water so it can go in and out when ever it wants in an area in my backyard. It will be secured and where the sun also hits. I will also put shade for it. I want to do this because my turtle does not bask at all i had it for about a month and i recorded three full days and reviewed the footage and i found out it does not bask at all. It stays under water and swims.

      +harta susanto welp, your turtle has metabolic bone disease, which is mainly caused by low levels of calcium or other nutritions that you may be forgetting, like iron and protein. Sorry if i'm too late XD

    i hae an African sideneck turtle and painted turtle in a 300 gallon tank and they never bask no matter what ii do

    • @blakebarber5750
      @blakebarber5750 6 лет назад

      zach wilson the painter should bask all the time...very frequently...my African side neck rarely basks,but will bask occasionally,enough to count and when I don’t think he has,I take him outside for twenty or so minutes of real sunshine to dry off...part of the issue may be that you have animals from opposite sides of the planet...totally different climates and behavior patterns ...thus the temp needs and general tank conditions are totally different albeit difficult to determine for the uninformed or inexperienced...but think about it...painted turtles are native to North America from Georgia to Canada...sideneck comes from Africa and you don’t have to be a climatologist or a herpetologist to realize those two turtles probably shouldn’t be housed together...large tank size doesn’t always mean it’s great for multiple species...unless you go out of your way to create zones that are micro versions of their natural habitat or some mean average that would work for both,(which is gonna be next to impossible when you have two species from completely different eco systems )separate and then personalize enclosures to the species based on its natural behavior and habitat
