I did that the first time that we had to leave our turtle, but it was my uncle instead. He had to always to come in the middle of the night to feed her and just ended up throwing everything in. It was a huge mess and she didn’t eat since the light wasn’t on. We had such a mess when we came home! But now we’ve left three times since we got her, we just leave her with some veggies if it really comes down to it and left the window shades open. She survived 🙃
Automatic turtle feeders, light timers and really big canister filters make life easy when you're out of town! My adult turtles are fine without food for a week too
Seriously Mira I don’t think you can do that, since they carry salmonella. They won’t even let dogs that aren’t service dogs on the plane. Maybe you could put them in cargo? But that seems cruel and extremely dangerous
Thank you for clarifying it! I feel that you are one of the trustworthy sources to go to if I do not know information about turtles. I am travelling this weekend and even though I have watched this video before, i am still worries that my terrapins may die.
Great video I was just wondering how big their tanks are, Im probably getting a turtle so i need to know what size tank is best, the turtle I want gets 4 inches and im am not sure how many litres it will need.
Yes, so the minimum size for that turtle would be 40 gallons. But the bigger the better, so if you can afford it I would recommend something bigger, which will make the water quality more stable (since ammonia spikes, etc. won't be as severe), and because your turtle will appreciate all the space it gets. Also, with tanks that size getting an extra 10-30 gallons usually is pretty cheap compared to the price of the 40 gallon. (40 gallon may be $200 USD , 70 may be$ 230 so I would 100% recommend getting that extra gallonage because it's pretty inexpensive). Having extra gallonage also means you can decorate a little more, if you want, without taking up the swimming space (but there's not really a lot of decorating you can do for turtle's as a lot of stuff is either dangerous to have with a turtle because it can eat it, because it takes up space, or because your turtle will knock it over). Hope this helps! Good luck with your new turtle :)
name the turtle... up to 4inch is what a musk or reeves or??? different turtle different size and shape of the tank and different care... i got 2 razorback musks (7cm) in a jungle tank of 100L maybe 60litres of water... and they look tiny in it :) - water change 30% maybe once every 3 weeks or so...just have to clean the sponge more often..altho plants clean the water very very well...and no musks dont eat plants... rip the roots yeah, but thats why i gave them a tank full of sagitaria, and a ton of floating plants

I'm a new turtle owner. Been wanting one for awhile but unfortunately its illegal to sell turtles in N.C. so I couldn't go to a pet store and buy one. I recently went to Florida and bought a yellow belly and drove back to N.C. With him. Excited to finally have one. I love your channel, its so helpful for ppl like me who are learning and wanting to make sure they provide the best care. The one thing I realised I need is a better filter lol. Thanks for awesome content... Also is there a turtle owner community facebook group or anything that you know of?
I really need some help, I have a small turtle, so many people that have seen her told me that it's not for water, I put some in some kind of aquarium, with dry grass and a small pieces of apples, vegetables and water. I don't know if it's correct how I'm doing, also he sleep so much, sometimes he doesn't move from 1 place for 30 hours or so I think. I wish I can find on the Internet a guide and tips for different species and how to take care of them
Hi! We are planning to get a cat, and we have 3 turtles at home (2 and half years)... Could you tell us which breed of cat would be compatible with red eared sliders? Can a kitten live with turtles? Kindly reply soon... : )
try cats with low energy some breeds I would recommend are a tabby cat because I have 3 tabby cats w/ my red eared slider and they are not harmful BUT make sure that when you leave the room or where ever you have the tank be sure to put a lid on the tank
Vencel Limanto If it’s a Gigantic tank with a whole lot of Aquatic Plants and bottom feeders then yes. You’ll have to do water changes a lot more often
Mines a snapping turtle. I will give him a really big meal before I leave for a week. I think they live on their fat reserves. It sometimes eats "stone pebbles" in the tank. Serious. Lol
I don't even have a turtle, but love your channel! Also, I hate to be that person and I'm sure you said it before. How did you get that scar above your left eye? I'm sure it is a cool story? I certainly don't mean anything by it, as it is cute and adds character.
haha no worries, it's fine. I used to tell people my face got scratched by an alligator or grazed by a shark 😂in reality my cousin was trying to show me how to bat a tee ball and I accidentally leaned into his backswing and *bam* it's been there for more than half my life 😬
If I have someone coming over to feed, I measure out each day’s portion into a ziploc bag and write on the bag which day to feed.
that's a great way to do it, that way they don't have to fuss about it :)
I did that the first time that we had to leave our turtle, but it was my uncle instead. He had to always to come in the middle of the night to feed her and just ended up throwing everything in. What type of turtle feeder you got? Because I can't seem to find one that you can set the exact day?
I know you have a diamondback terrapin, what’s the other turtle’s breed? And how big do they get?
Eastern painted turtle, and 6-7 inches

I'm a new turtle owner. Been wanting one for awhile but unfortunately its illegal to sell turtles in N.C. so I couldn't go to a pet store and buy one. I recently went to Florida and bought a yellow belly and drove back to N.C. With him. Excited to finally have one. I love your channel, its so helpful for ppl like me who are learning and wanting to make sure they provide the best care. The one thing I realised I need is a better filter lol. Thanks for awesome content... Also is there a turtle owner community facebook group or anything that you know of?
glad you're enjoying! good filters are definitely helpful :) I don't know of on facebook....sorry!
Hii, what is the catagory name of your turtle..
Diamondback terrapin
How do you know if its an adult turtle
Is a 2 1/2 gallon tank ok for snails?
yep, but take it from me, stay on top of your water changes!!
I wish I can find on the Internet a guide and tips for different species and how to take care of them
Do you have pictures of the turtle? What does it look like? Is it small and green, with little red stripes on the side of its head?
Hi today I am going to buy a craw fish can I put it in my soft shell turtle tank
I would be careful and make sure that the crawfish won't be able to pinch the turtle. And the soft shell might eat it....you could try though.
OK thanks
I hope that helped:)
A kitten can live with turtles
Hi I really want a stink pot turtle would a two foot tank be ok ?
depends on how many gallons that tank holds ;) I'd say a 20 gallon long or larger
This was so useful!
What spices of turtle you have
Turtles can stay without food for upto 2 months
And yeah during winters you should turn off the heaters and let them be on nature for 4-5 months
My yellow bellied slider goes into a semi hibernation and he didn't eat for about two weeks.😯🐢
Can you make a video about a can a turtle live in a unfiltered tank
I don't think turtles living in an unfiltered tank is a good idea ever, but maybe it'll be a good "don't do this" video lol
Serious. Lol
us turtle keepers 😎
I don’t have anyone to come to feed my turtle when I am away… and he is a baby still I don’t know what to do…
i leave for a month normally and i have to take her with me everytime but i feel guilty 😢
Hey turtle girl. Where can I buy a diamond back?
I don't even have a turtle, but love your channel! Also, I hate to be that person and I'm sure you said it before. How did you get that scar above your left eye? I'm sure it is a cool story? I certainly don't mean anything by it, as it is cute and adds character.
haha no worries, it's fine. I used to tell people my face got scratched by an alligator or grazed by a shark 😂in reality my cousin was trying to show me how to bat a tee ball and I accidentally leaned into his backswing and *bam* it's been there for more than half my life 😬
@@TheTurtleGirl Great story, we all have scars. But stick to the grazed by a shark! Teehee. Anyway, love your videos!
My sisters friends mom has a petsitting business so we get her to come and feed my turtle and i trust her because she has turtles ducks and chickens

@@TheTurtleGirl can I buy feeder fish so they can eat for the week and how much fish for a hatchling
Watching you all this time and just now realizing I wasn’t subscribed 🤦🏽
