    This is very helpful I was a dumb careless kid and my parents bought me one as a gift and then we got another one and I didn't provide them the care that they needed, I'm looking to absolutely splurge on them right now as they're still pretty young. I feel so bad because it took me a few years to essentially wake up but they're luckily healthy and I am looking forward to providing them their best possible life :(

    My turtle has a fish filter that is just helping me keep my turtle tank clean. I have a UVB lamp over her artificial logg witch I consider her basketing area. I have the tank at least half way full enough for her to swim and enough for her to breath air. Does she need any thing else? I have no heater her and i don’t keep up with her water tempature what do you recommend?

    Hi Turtle Girl, my daughter just bought me a Zoo Med reptihabitat premium reptile habitat and a African sideneck turtle for Father's Day. I'm going to start with your turtle Basics 101 playlust and learn what I can.
    I started watching your videos because I'm trying to figure out why my water clouded within 24 hours of setting up the tank.
    I have a Zoo Med aquatic turtle banquet block which Sawyer my turtle has been devouring and the tank setup has a Zoo Med Turtle Clean filter 318 which is probably under sized but says it filters 55 gallons per hour and I have 10 gallons in the 20 gallon habitat.
    I really don't know what questions to ask because I don't know what I don't know yet but I will be letting you know when I figure it out.

    Hi Turtle Girl. Today, I received a baby Western Painted turtle and I'm new with turtles but have spent weeks researching and learning all I can about caring for them. One thing all my research didn't cover, and I didn't realize it until I got my turtle today, was new turtle behavior. I am nervous as my turtle doesn't quite seem comfortable. He/she is spending a bit of time in a corner and I'm not sure why. It hurts my heart that I don't know what to do to help him/her. And, I don't know if my turtle is just sleeping, or hanging out or what? Is this normal or is something wrong? Would love to see a video from you about new turtle behavior. I'd love to know when to freak out and when all is good, lol.

    Hi, I just rescued a red eared slider from a friend that didn't really want him and I just wanted to make sure he stays warm. So, at night I wasn't sure if it's okay to turn off the uvb light and heat lamp because there is a water heater in the tank? I have heard turtle generally need a sense of night and day but I want to make sure it's not too dark or that he should be staying warm if the temp of the water heater is set at 82°

    I have two two-year red eared sliders ( one is a female one is a male) when I first got them I put them both in a 20 gallon (which I now realize was to small ). I now have upgraded their tank to a 40 gallon breeder tank. They seem pretty happy but I am still skeptical about if this is too small ( do you think this tank will last them a year ? ). Do you have any advice?
    Your channel is fantastic ! I’ve learned so much

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  6 лет назад +4

      The tank could last if you have good filtration and are diligent with water changes. However, I think they would definitely appreciate more swimming space, so if you can accommodate an upgrade to say a 75 or larger, I'd do that.

    Hi, I'm here because my daughter has been asking for a pet turtle for so long haha so I have a question, do I still need a heater since it's very hot here in my country. Average temperature here is around 86F, and do I need a UVA and UVB lights? Since I'm planning to place the tank right beside a window where the curtains only close at night, so the turtle would pretty much get sun everyday unless on rainy days.

    • @TheTurtleGirl

      Preferably the uvb light is above the basking area where the turtle gets out of the water. If you have a tubular uvb bulb that is long, then it can be over the water, but still preferably lighting up the basking area as well :)

    There are like really small turtles at a pet store near me, I have an old tank that I used for my American bull frog, it's not very tall, I don't know if that would be a good tank or I should get a new tank. Also, could I use a huge plastic box thing?

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  6 лет назад +1

      What are the dimensions or gallons? I wouldn't start in anything less than 10 gallons. A huge plastic tote (25 gallon sizes are pretty common) could also work, you just can't see the turtle as well :)

  • @ericalittle5648

    I just recently got a juvenile Eastern box turtle (just over a week ago). She is very tiny (just larger than a quarter), she is very shy and won't bask or eat, I know it may take her some time to get used to her new environment, but do you have any advice as to how I can help her do this? I'm worried she will get sick from not getting the UV rays she needs (we have her inside with her heat lamp and UVB/UVA bulb). I'm not sure how long a turtle can go without food/UV light!!

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Erica! Turtles are pretty resilient little creatures and can actually go quite long without the "necessary" food and lighting - a couple weeks typically isn't a problem. I would just be patient...when she is hungry or feels the need to bask, she will. To be completely honest, I have practically no experience with box turtles - only what I know from research - so I would head over to turtleforum.com and see if you can get any advice there. There is one active member who is frequently helping people out, and she owns an eastern box and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to give you advice :)

I bought a tank and put pebbles and water in it and a rock he can get on to dry but I honestly don’t know anything else and I haven’t filled the water up enough so that he can swim just so he can get wet....is that bad?

      Ah, I see. I'm not well verse in the care of the Malaysian box, or really any box turtle for that matter, so I can't really help you there. I do believe that mbts need shallower water with half water and half land. I think that the soft shell would be happier in a fully aquatic setup, so if you could get him his own tank, that's what I would do :)

    Your turtle is so healthy and active. Mine are just mistreated. I am trying to redeem myself but got two dead ones already. They were very healthy when bought but overtime they are just stressed out I guess. Not active and not eating now 😭

    Hi TurtleGirl,
    Where would I purchase vitamin A for a turtle? Or is that possible? Also if I can't get vitamin A, what would be a good substitute?

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  5 лет назад +1

      You can give vitamin a through safe vegetables and turtle pellets.

    How do i convince my dad to let me get a turtle oh and how do i transport the turtle home?

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  6 лет назад +16

      To take the turtle home, they will do fine in a bucket/box with a towel to cushion them. DO NOT USE WATER.....they do not need it for a short ride and it will just make a mess. As for the convincing part, show them that you are responsible by doing chores without being asked/having good grades, etc. Usually most parents will give in if they think you are responsible. Also, offer to pay for the animal and the equipment needed to take care of it ;)

    The turtle girl. I hace a question. Recently i adopted a semi fully grown red eared slider. His previous tank was too small for him, and it had no basking area. And he was with the previous owners for many years. They took him out when they cleaned his tank. And let him out in the sun. But now that i have him i put him in a bjgger tank. Bought a heat lamp for him and made a little basking area. But he will not go on the basking area? Its been about a week or so. When i was making the tansition we took him out of the water and he immediately started to 'peel' or 'shed' his scales. Like 7-9 of them all at once. So my question is, what should i do about this? I dont want him to get shell rot and i have put research in. I think he is just stressed about a new home and a new habitat. Thank you. Also i names him Hank.

    • @noname-fi5hl
      @noname-fi5hl 6 лет назад +2

      WAIT I JUST SAW HIM TRYING TO BASK I THINK HE IS NERVOUS ABOUT IT

    • @lalyc4722
      @lalyc4722 6 лет назад +2

      He's most likely nervous, since he's not accustomed to having a basking area. My baby turtles took about a week to get used to the concept of basking lol. :))

      Setesh i have both. The heating lamp isnt as warm as it could be. I think its the fixture its in. Its irritating me. But its all i can do with the money i have. I'll be upgrading as soon as i can.

      The filter is always on, 24/ 7. There should never be a need to turn it off unless you are cleaning.
