Day 1 main confirmed. Tom and Jerry was my shit when I was a kid.
Oh man if this was real in Real Smash Bros. (or better yet as a MUCH BETTER CHOICE TO END THE DLC!!!), I would've cried with tears of joy.
For those who don't know: Tom screams are the same classic screams from the original Tom & Jerry shorts dating back to the 40s. The screams are performed by William Hannah, who you might know as one half of Hannah-Barbera. Hannah died in 2001, so it's wild he's gonna have a posthumous credit in a fighting game 21 years after.
Who could forget the iconic Tom scream it was and is perfect.
That's exceedingly cool. I love it.
Absolutely shows the people working on this care about it. Either the management is on board with them, or wise enough to stay out of the way and let them work.

Tom & Jerry's movements are just them fighting each other, and the every other characters are victims to their fight. Very lore accurate.
So far them and Velma are my favourites.
Mostly, yeah. Things have usually ended bad when others went after Tom or Jerry though. Because whichever one isn't getting attacked will just body the shit out of the chaser.
Man Tom and Jerry are the best characters in this game. Their moves have references to some scenes of their shows!!!
All the callbacks to character history in just the way they stand, and then they move exactly like in animation. Even Velma's crawling references the times she loses her glasses, so when she crouches she drops them, when she stands she puts them back on. If every character is like this, then watching the game is gonna be like watching an episode of a crossover cartoon, instead of a game.

Yeah and the classic ones are all there.When I did the early tests,I had to play Tom and Jerry,very blissful to see a lot of nods to the duo.Cant wait to play them again while my sister be playing Harley
I'm gonna dedicate my first playthrough of this game to seeing how many death screams tom and jerry have.
Batman's idle animation is him blending with the shadows, the same way he does in any of his iterations (animation, live action)...I love it!

I absolutely love how Velma is pushing her glasses away every time she's trying to find them while crawling. That's amazing attention to detail.
In my mind the glasses are haunted and moving away from her hahaha, but it being pushed away makes more sense

unbelievable that it took a f2p platform fighter to give us a better, more faithful modern depiction of tom and jerry then warner bros have tried for decades now
Not only that, but their taunt is Jerry slamming Tom's toe, leading to him yelling in pain while clutching his foot and hopping on the spot. This keeps going indefinitely until you cancel the taunt.

Seeing what they did with Tom & Jerry has me excited for the possibilities of them eventually adding Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote.
Painted tunnels and obnoxiously big explosives that hit the opponent instead of them road would be a really good zoner if they do it right and coyote could have really good aoe
Man, that would be THE trap character.
I think Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner are varied enough characters to get their own slot, but I really do think they can use this same model as kinda like an echo fighter sorta thing with Sylvester and Tweety
the coyote does not fall, it stays in the air for a couple of seconds
Wile E. could be the kind of character that injures himself to do really powerful attacks, like a crate of TNT that explodes around him, hurting him but doing triple damage to anyone around him

Just the fact that a lot of their idle animations have so much personality to them AND references their character histories is just amazing. Gonna have to give this game a try when it comes out.
I think this game does what Nickelodeon All Star Brawl was missing, which was presentation.
As much as people like to go all into "who cares about presentation, it's all about the core gameplay mechanics", games like this and Dragonball Fighterz goes to show how far presentation takes things to get people interested. Sure it's not the most perfect thing, but just simply having voices and a lot of these interactions, as well as having such personality with the trailers, gameplay, and UI makes it feel like a lot of effort was put into it. It's what got people like myself to try and buy games like DBFZ and KOF XV, which many people passed on games like MVCI and KOF XIV because the presentation doesn't stick with us, despite still being good games. Hell, I even bought KOF XV because the visuals are A LOT better that XIV, and I think fit their games perfectly.
Just by that trailer in the beginning alone makes me wanna try this game out. It's OOZING with personality and it makes me feel more attached to the characters that I wanna try out. Hell, even seeing gameplay I never thought I'd be interested in VELMA of all people. I think they did the characters justice here, and it's what the Nickelodeon Smash game was missing to really catch people's attention.
Presentation is definitely key to a fighting game's success, the people who say "only the gameplay matters!" are esports players who can't look at a fighting game as anything but a means to grind for prize money.

Well part of the reason why we want to play these games are because we see pur favourite characters which is why they're marketting it as such. We want to see shaggy beating up superman, why? Because it's fun and it'd be even more fun to see the interractions they have.
Pro fighting game players don't care about that stuff and mostly just see the characters as tools to win. NASB i feel were marketting purely to them and that's a very small minority of gamers. MV i feel like is marketted towards a more general audience while having the mechanics for professional play.
You said it man. Budget and presentation are some of the most important things.
Also personally, this game already has characters I'd love to play, unlike Nick Brawl.
Though to be fair nick all brawl is because of the budget and some copyright problem iirc.
And multiversus is free to play game, which is often not great, let just hope they are not stingy and greedy for this game.
That IS a good trailer (and I don't even play rumble games like this)! The only thing that kept it back from TRUE GREATNESS tm is that when Bugs got punched he didn't say "Of course you realize this means war!"

I loved how they implemented Velma’s move set with all of the clues and detective pieces. It makes me excited for other characters they implement in this game. The characters don’t even need to know how to fight but they can have the coolest move sets
They made Shaggy the meme people want him to be, while he still has the charm of his show appearances. Meanwhile, they gave Velma the entire gimmick of the show: solving the mystery and catching the bad guy.
I find that incredible, especially since we know Shaggy and Scooby aren’t the ones who usually get the villain, so when it came time to add elements from the show, they gave the idea of sleuthing to the brains of Mystery Inc. and had Shaggy get the gags and they filled in the rest with the meme (which has roots in one of their movies and is given reason to, in game.)

Regardless of how this game does, i have one thing to praise:
Whoever is in charge of character design knows how a *proper* Superman should look like because THE RED TRUNKS are present.
Reminds me of how Ed McGuinness used to draw him (except the face).

With Batman it is either give or take depending on how tactical his suit has to be, but if Superman does not have his red trunks it looks like he is just wearing an scuba diving suit.
@@Lusombras: I'll just say i'm a traditionalist as far as the main Superman costume. I'll take either the red trunks or sometimes even red boxers if the design is supposed to mimic the Golden Age years.
Unless it is an alternate version like the Justice Lords or Superman Beyond, i consider red trunks to be as necesary as cheese on a grilled cheese sandwich.
I prefer Superman Reborn design with with the Red belt with Yellow buckle instead of undies
@@njfernandes87 To tie into his roots of wearing a strongman's uniform or the more recent iteration of it being something Martha Kent made for him and not Kryptonian armor...yeah, it kinda is important. it shows his human roots, and how he's not just an alien superhero - he's lived as a human and connects with us on a deep, deep level.
I didn't have any big thoughts about this game initially other than it seemed kinda quirky and cool, but I am _blown away_ by the animation quality and how much attention to detail is put into every little bit of the designs.
I think my favorite moment in this whole video is how Max is in the middle of saying something, and Batman's idle animation just completely stuns him silent.
I genuinely laughed out loud, at Tom's yell.

I think they're going to model their monetization after Fortnite. They already show a battle pass in there that unlocks cosmetics and profile icons etc. I imagine the store will have limited time special skins and what not.

3:15 Agreed! Honestly I'd love a little quest mode when you can see the different interactions, more cutscenes, and see what happening why everyone is here.
They are working on an Arcade mode, so this could be happening soon.

I think one of the cool aspects I saw was that in the training area u can use all the characters whether u unlocked them or not, so u can choose to save the coins for unlocking if u don’t necessarily like the playstyle of a locked character. Don’t know if it’ll go to the full game but it’d be nice to try a character before u completely unlock them

It'd be there in the full game. I think the game is mostly done and they're just testing online and balance at this point. There's already a battlepass system of sorts.
Every comp video game with unlockable characters needs this feature. Don't know how so many fighting games don't let you try the character before paying $6.

The intro was straight up hilarious
This game is straight up a masterclass of all the principles of animation and then these animation principles are all used as mechanics in the combat itself.
Just look at the staging used in Tom and Jerry's animations, the anticipation, everything, the idea of them fighting among themselves as usual and other fighters are just getting caught in their fight is genius, probably the most well animated and unique concept in all of fighting games.
Its the Hannah-Barbera zing! A certain animation charm that even Disney can't properly do.
Though I note that Jerry does feel a little off when separated from Tom. I believe a large part of it is the character not reacting to it's animations: it doesn't look at the projectile it's using or anything at all, unlike Tom which follows the swing of the racket for instance.
Yeah hopefully Jerry animations are fixed when it launches, normally it wouldn't be so big of a deal but in a game with this amount of care it ends up standing out

I can't believe it but... they did it, this game looks amazing, freaking tom n jerry might be the most unique idea in a fighting game I've seen in a while
The funny thing about them is that they're not even technically trying to fight the other characters - all their attacks are about T&J trying to hurt each other and everyone else getting caught in the crossfire. It's perfect.
@@StoneStephenT And it works so well. If Tom and Jerry wins, it's like a classic episode of the cartoon: the other team loses due to Tom and Jerry's antics without them being even aware of what's going on around them. It's so good!
it's actually common to have this kind of character in fighting games, Tom & Jerry is loosely considered a puppet character.. but I never expected to see this archetype in a platform fighter!
The screen actually blurs a little bit when Velma starts crawling while her glasses are off.
Props to every team for making this game. Even the famous Tom scream. Classic.
I can already imagine the Nickelodeon executives breathing down the All Star Brawl's Devs necks "Why does our product we hired you for not share the same high quality and excellent reception as WB's product??", ignoring the fact Nickelodeon gave the Devs breadcrumbs as budget that wasn't even enough to hire voice actors to properly give life to characters.

Once it was shipped, I'm sure Nick didn't even care at all what happened to the game. Only the devs really cared about it, it's sad that they weren't given a proper budget.

Looks way better than the Nickelodeon one. Unclear on whether Nick just doesn't have the financial prowess to properly fund a quality game or because of their lack of experience in the gaming space.
I really feel like they could have gave them a bigger budget. I mean they have given other games a bigger budget like the battle for bikini bottom game, I think they just didn't expect the game to gain any traction for some reason.

For the DC characters apparently creates his own versión and add costumes of diferent versions for example Harley is a mix of her apparence in the actual cómics and her animated series but the Game have costumes of the suicide squad costume and her clásic costume

If you think about it you’re actually chasing Jerry around because you need Jerry to create tricky combos. Without Jerry, your attacks are not as strong.

Yeah, I’ve seen some videos about the game. The attention to detail RIVALS SMASH BROS!! And the devs embraced so many MEMES!! I have to give them so many respect!
Yeah, they even exceed in areas where Smash kind of lacks, like character interactions, there's A LOT of special dialogues in the victory screens, like Superman telling Shaggy to control his power.
In Smash that exists, but only between characters from the same franchise, you know, characters that can already interact anyway outside of Smash.
The biggest example being Palutena's Guidance, in which they speak about* the character, but very rarely they actually interact with* it.
@@julianx2rl SSBU already packs a lot of stuff inside. I'm pretty sure Sakurai and the dev team would absolutely love to do more of them, but Nintendo was probably strict about the release date
Smash has also always dropped the ball on costumes unfortunately.
12:14 I was laughing hard as hell here when I realized they added in the classic not 1 but more than one classic Tom screams lol 🤣 as a huge Tom and Jerry fan this is just amazing on their play style calls back to numerous episodes ( I can only imagine how many skins they got planned lol there's so many of them they can make ) as a game itself this looks freaking amazing. Tons of charm from huge fans of the shows , they got basically all the actors that are portraying them in the game and the animations look amazing, it's so well done. Can't wait to play this. The fact it's free is even more insane. Some free games do do this sometimes but I hope they make a physical copy that comes with charecters or charecter skins , cause I want a physical copy too man. Want to support it that way too. This looks amazing. The Taz and Tom and Jerry ones are my favorites so far

Yes. Yes he absolutely does.
Also, there are a lot of ring-out effects and cameos. Spike the Bulldog, the big blue woman from Steven Universe, Darkseid's Omega Beams, and a bull who runs and disappears through a flaming hoop are just some of them along with Porky's "That's All, Folks!".
The last one has got to be my favorite. Imagine you win and you just die and have Porky say, "That's all, Folks!"

I know alot of people love to say how "Nicktoons isn't as good because there are no voices!" but I find myself looking at both games and feel like the Nicktoon games also lacks... Spirit.
When you play Smash, you feel like you are in control of those characters. When you play Multiversus, you see how much personality all the characters have. But for the Nicktoons... Yeah, you are playing as them, but it is almost like going to Disneyworld and interacting with someone wearing a mascot outfit rather than feeling like you are playing as the character. It isn't to say the game is bad in comparison to Multiversus (and who knows if Hugh Neutron will change that tune), but overall, I feel like I would be more than happy to invest some time into Multiversus and might play two or three matches in Nicktoons before moving on to something else. Overall, we know exactly who to blame for this... Viacom...
Harley treating Taz like a pet is the most wholesome thing I have seen in a long time and I never knew I needed it till now.

what would be funny is if shaggy and batman knew each other from the crossover episodes.
They do! One of the unique lines Shaggy says to Batman when they're fighting is something like, "When I'm through with you, they're gonna call you BRUISED WAYNE!"

with nick all stars, those guys focused more on the competitive scene, which was never what smash was all about, the competitive audience was always the minority, i feel... the game lacks soul, it's just generic.
but this game... while the gameplay is different, these people made sure the soul was there, the characters actually feel like who they're supposed to be, the voices and animations, the unique gimmicks... it looks good.
i feel like if nick all stars was more like this, it wouldn't have died in a month.

That "welcome back to the stage of history" at 0:42 coupled with the statue made me have a double take; I thought for a moment Batman had warped into Soul Calibur!
As long that statue doesn't turn out to be alive secret boss like Colossus that start a new round.
It truly looks amazing. All the characters are so well done but I must say the Tom & Jerry had me crying :D The death screams, the 'accidental' teamwork and just the overall feel that you don't rly fight against other players, you just go after Jerry and others just happen to get in the way of your attacks xD So good.

Tom and Jerry are probably the most well designed and and animated characters in this game, the amount of love and care that clearly went into that character is amazing. And the fact that everyone else is just collateral in their fight I love it so much.

I LOVE the ring out animations. They really add to the game. My favorites are Space Kook (my favorite Scooby Villain) and Shazam
You can tell a lot of genuine heart and soul went into this game and I love it.
It's so dope that the gameplay actually matches the trailer so closely. Literally references the moves in the game as opposed to them just doing bs that you'll never have.
Hearing the brass ‘Come along with Me’ in the background of the Adventure Time Tree House stage made me feel something
I’m not into the game itself, but god they poured so much personality into the characters. Tom and Jerry are the highlight for sure!

I already told myself I'm going to play Tom & Jerry just because of how much I love them but seeing their gameplay brings a tear to my eye. So much attention to detail, so much care and love was put into these characters! Velma's gameplay looks unbelievably cool too. I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

While the combat looks a little wonky, the references, art style, and general concept are good enough to rival smash

It doesn't need to rival Smash. Just be it's own thing.
the team went above and beyond for the character interactions in this game, even more than smash which is impressive for a free to play game.
Also hoping for either Samurai Jack, Ben 10, Mortal Kombat or even Jojo (Warner Japan handles the anime series like Warner handles Game Of Thrones) to make an appearance.
If MK characters needs to be added to this game, it has to be Johnny and Liu Kang. (Purely because of how chaotic a duo between the noble hero and the douchey sleezebag with a good heart would be. Especially when interacting with everyone else.)
(And I'm kind of tired of seeing Scorpion everywhere. If they add Sub-zero though, they need to have a Bi-Han and Kuai-Liang Alt with different voice-lines.)

I watched a friend play this for a bit, but I didn't get to see it slowed down to admire the animations and now I've picked up some interest in the game. Good stuff!
