The scariest parts of the original Subnautica was exploring this wide expanse sea floor in the blackness then you hit a cliff and realize it goes even deeper. Below Zero has way too many tight spaces like the Degasi shroom base. Its not as scary. I can understand why they took out the cyclops because most of the areas don't have room for it. But the cyclops was my favorite part of the first game. That first trip to the lava zone with it was the best part of the game because that's when you won't see sunlight for a while.
Technically the snowstalkers are abled to swim, so it's not unreasonable to assume they eat small to medium sized fish and the iceworm prefers eating the snowstalkers over you, so one assume he eats them as prey
I've finished it completely and I've had an underwhelming feeling at the end. Probably because my expectations were too high. The story felt much shorter and for me I still felt a lack of polish. I had to report allot of bugs so hopefully they'll check that out. I didnt realy like the seatruck. managing your big ship in the previous game was way more to my liking. Overall it felt more like an expansion of the original game then a new game entirely. Way less scary which was a big bummer for me. Yes they have changed the graphical fidelity of the land environment but under water I feel like not much has changed exept for remodelling creatures. Plants are almost exactly the same. and the same goes for the fish. (peeper, bladderfish, etc.) During the playthroughs I have done through the development of the game, I have begon to think that allot of time was lost on changing the story of the game. I really thought allot more would be added but unfortunately I was wrong. Still a good game. Just not as good as I would have hoped.
I find that bz is a lot more fun to explore and I don't feel like I need to google the locations to things as much. i love how its not as scary as the first game, I'm fine with horror but with my great fears of open ocean and large submerged man-made objects (like the aurora) the first game nearly induced many panic attacks. I've hardly done any of the story in bz as I've only recently started playing it and I've just nearly finished Al-An's body but I'm so interested in it all and I've found myself playing from 2pm all the way to 3-4am by accident as I'm so submerged and into the game. I agree they've improved a lot since the first game and I'd say it's better than the first one. interactable creatures like the seamonkey are so cute- that wins the game for me.
3:10 yeah that’s so true started a playthrough recently (had the game since release just was waiting for full release) and the leviathans just don’t give the same scares and i’m terrified of the reaper leviathan
My favorite songs in subnautica, I don’t know the names but i can describe them, one of starts in the blood kelp where angels start singing to you and the other usually plays in the lava zone where it feels like a heartbeat
Recently I noticed Below Zero in a video game store and without me even asking if I wanted it, my dad said he'd see if he could get it for me. So either he doesn't care if he's spoiling me or I just looked really interested.
its weird that the devs didnt intend for the first to be scary yet it was. and now in the sequel they deliberately made it not as scary because they felt that realm had already been done in the first and did not want to repeat it. im a tad bummed about that but the game is so good that even without the creepy scary aspects id probably still enjoy it. although there is no other feeling than taking your cyclops from the shallows all the way to the lost river. managing hunger, thirst, the darkness, the cramped space, monitoring all the camera angles, and most importantly not being attacked by the ghost leviathan. and not to mention that one creepy fucking track that starts playing when you are in pitch black.
I disagree with the music part, the first game music will always be the best, the feeling i get from the music from orignal subnautica, i dont think anyone can win of that. It just gives more feeling of alone and the unknown. That fits subnautica really well...
I will make a sculpture of subnautica creatures as I complete 10 episodes of subnautica.... I am just waiting for my pc.. And i think you should wait until the game is officially released + most of the glitches are solved
Ima just mention that I already decided to get the game. Also, Subnautica's music gives that feeling of something being right around the corner, or the dread of being nowhere near the surface. It makes you always look behind your back or never go beneath crush depth. And then Below Zero sounds like something an EDM artist would make. Not bad, but doesn't fit with what the game is. Of course, opinions opinions, I just prefer Subnautica. (I can't exactly speak about this as much since my fav song from Sub is Abandon Ship but eh) Sill am going to 100% going to get the game. Also yes I know Simon got fired and I know the person changed, but I still don't believe the music fits with the games aesthetic.
I have yet to play Subnautica (or any other game like it) on anything other than Creative Mode. Mostly because I like seeing everything the game(s) have to offer without having to worry about anything.
I bought it on steam around 5 months ago, I've enjoyed the game, 100% would recommend to absolutely any video game player. It seems that the whole Subnautica franchise took me by surprise with the good quality of the game and story. So yeah, I would recommend this game.
Hey aci, I was in this VRChat world the other day that has a bunch of avatars, and I found the Reaper, Sea Dragon, Peeper, and Sea Emperor skins! They’re bipedal, though, but the Reaper is absolutely adorable. It just wants hugs 🤗
I bought both subnautics still in early alpha, I'm just going to see what you're saying about that. I played 500h in the first one and 75h in the "second". But I gonna play it a few more times when I gonna have free time.
Kinda creature spoilers So this game was amazing and i cannot be happier with how they cleaned up many lag and bug issues. I do wanna add my take on the scariness. For me it's almost more scart at some parts. Tho it's very different. The way this game developed fear was almost like how a shonen anime lays out fights in some ways. At first i was scared of the cryptosuchuses until i realized they weren't so bad, then i was horrified of squid sharks. Then i met the chelicerate and became numb to the threat of squid sharks. And then finally when i got deep into 4546b and thought all was safe, the shadow leviathan comes out of nowhere like a train on crack screaming to high heaven. The chelicerate is no longer scary. The thing is, until the very end the placement of the shadow leviathan, its coloration, its horrible noises (and sometimes lack of), and its sheer balls to the walls agression, constantly coming out of nowhere to ruin my day, horrified me and kept me on my toes. Unlike the sea dragon leviathan that only really startled me once that i remember when it noclipped through the floor under me, the shadow leviathan has not stopped scaring me. Essentially, all the creatures in subzero were not bad to get used to as time passed unlike a lot of the original ones, but the late game is where it did a much better job than the subnautica late game.
jokes on you i preordered it hours ago because it was at a lower price for preorder and i get it for ps5 at no additional costs when i eventually get that.
i played it few months after early access release the story was different for sure you would wake up in a base instead crash landing and just starting the game instantly and go where you want story characters had different personality and entire different set of dialogues if subnautica 2 was made i expect the world to be bigger idk atleast 8 by 8 km and 5km depth the story probably would relate to between the first one and standalone DLC or even a prequel entirely we probably can find out in several years if lucky
I love the new additions to the ui, new base mechanics and base parts. The textures and other graphical things are a major improvement. The sound is lacking in my opinion especially with the animals. When I hear a shark roar in this game I don’t think “oh brute shark” I just think “oh, a dangerous fish” as they all just sound the same. The music isn’t as good as the last game but I think it fits a story driven game as opposed to the last one being of a mysterious planet. I’m pretty disappointed about the map. It feels smaller (maybe because it is) and the biomes feel too large to compensate for having to cover a lot of land. The underwater or deep biomes didn’t feel as layered or connected as the original game which was something that really enticed my feeling of exploration. There also are less creatures which makes some parts of the map seem empty and lessens the enjoyment of exploration. The ones that exist are neat but it’s repetitive seeing them again. Bruh, they reused the bladderfish and crashfish which if you ask me is kind of lazy. You would not believe the horror when I found out they cut some creatures because they were unnecessary. The story is very lacking, unsatisfying, and anticlimactic (so far with early access). Everything seemed forced and linear. You had to go here and do a task and then here as opposed to the original where you got to choose. One thing I did like was the voice acting. Everyone did a great job and it did well to add on to the story. With that in account I don’t think the game should cost as much as the original nor should anyone expect the same experience. I believe the best experiences were base building and navigating through the arctic spires in the snowfox. That’s pretty much it.
Soo... little bit earlier than below zero release date was released I had been waiting for below zero so long that I just gave up and downloaded the game and started playing it then after few days the release date was released and I already had around 8 hours into the game so now I havent played it since and Im waiting for the full release and trying to play thru the game without spoilers
Minor spoilers! I played through below 0 and found the game to be crammed and the biomes to be very chaotic due to the small map. I also found that the sea truck wasn't a good enough replacement for the cyclops and seamoth with the main problems being that it is slow and you are unable to build inside of it. Another thing to note is that the map isn't as deep and even though you may only be 150 meters down your slow character swim speed and pretty pathetic amount of air made you feel as if you would have very little time below the surface if you were passing 100 meters. The game also lacks the horror of the original making it feel more like a survival game with a bit of horror instead of the original and it's feel of a horror game disguised as a survival. I do still think it is a great game but as a "DLC" it shouldn't be priced at $30 especially since you can very easily tell it is a reskin of the original with a worse map. The creatures are decent if you pretend most of the leviathans don't exist. The ice worm is cool but I was never able to get it to spawn in my survival world. This may be because I found myself using the prawn suit over the snowfox because the snowfox was hard to control, slow, and had a high chance of you getting attacked from under you. I thought the soundtrack was ok but didn't have that same recognizable feel of the first one. I didn't appreciate your character having voice lines except for when you would talk to the precursor in your head. I really enjoyed thinking about what happened to the Degasi and it's crew due to the inclusion of the security guard, I don't remember her name but she is the main NPC in Below 0. That helped me bridge the story to the original a bit. TLDR: The game is good but can't compete with the original because it is the original but reskined for the same price. Uninstalled soon after completion.
I think with the updated graphics and animations (with the development of Below Zero coming to an end) they should update the 1st game just for a little extra polish
Yes, yes you should Edit: In my opinion, Abandon ship is better than into the unknown, simply for the feeling of relief of beating subnautica and the hype it builds for its successor
If you bout below zero early access will you have to buy it when it's out or do you get the full game automatically? Because I'm really confused right now I got early access but I don't know if I have to buy it again or if i can just play it?
tbh, the Leviathans is the biggest letdown for me in Below Zero, the rest is great, if not better than the first game. It seems like Unknown Worlds tone down the Leviathans to cater more to the big kiddies.
Had it 2 days on PS4 it's a revolution of the mind and all universal concepts, it's just that cultural, sell the dog or the local fox as you need this.
Aci - would you personally say comparing Subnautica BZ to the original Subnautica is much like Portal 2 is to the original Portal, perhaps? Or like Bioshock 1 is to Bioshock 2? Curious to hear your thoughts!
I haven’t played the game, but from what I’ve seen, and what he’s said on this video, it does not seem that way. Portal 2 added more content, and a longer game, and built upon what was there and made it better and bigger. Seems like below zero goes for a different approach, and gets rid of certain content to add other content, to make a different experience. Though both portal 2 and below zero seem to add more story and a less scary atmosphere

steam has early access too
You mean pc early acces
IM WAITING FOR IT ON PS4

Yeah i was waiting to pre-order too for ps4 but i bought a pc so i just bought early access.
Technically the snowstalkers are abled to swim, so it's not unreasonable to assume they eat small to medium sized fish and the iceworm prefers eating the snowstalkers over you, so one assume he eats them as prey
Simple Answer: *Yes*
(peeper, bladderfish, etc.)
During the playthroughs I have done through the development of the game, I have begon to think that allot of time was lost on changing the story of the game.
EXACTLY. exploring in bz is not as bland and boring as the first one and you don't need to watch chemical apes for guides everytime.
@@alduinfr FR. The amount of chemical apes i had to watch for the first game was insane. objects, locations, entrances.. it was ridiculous.
Thanks man!
Imma reserve it today :)
Keep up the good content, u deserve more subs 👍
3:10 yeah that’s so true started a playthrough recently (had the game since release just was waiting for full release) and the leviathans just don’t give the same scares and i’m terrified of the reaper leviathan
Haven't bought the game yet but the song at 1:43 holy moly is that good
My favorite songs in subnautica, I don’t know the names but i can describe them, one of starts in the blood kelp where angels start singing to you and the other usually plays in the lava zone where it feels like a heartbeat

abandon ship: am i a joke to you?
Already have it baby, been bug testing for the last 6 patches
And Ben Prunty had also done the music for FTL
Me who pre ordered it the first day it was possible but is still watching it coz aci made it
Recently I noticed Below Zero in a video game store and without me even asking if I wanted it, my dad said he'd see if he could get it for me. So either he doesn't care if he's spoiling me or I just looked really interested.
I can't wait to play it, I'm so excited especially after finishing the first game
Don't know how Unknown Worlds pulled off ANOTHER incredible looking world with diverse biomes and gorgeous eye candy everywhere!
its weird that the devs didnt intend for the first to be scary yet it was. and now in the sequel they deliberately made it not as scary because they felt that realm had already been done in the first and did not want to repeat it. im a tad bummed about that but the game is so good that even without the creepy scary aspects id probably still enjoy it. although there is no other feeling than taking your cyclops from the shallows all the way to the lost river. managing hunger, thirst, the darkness, the cramped space, monitoring all the camera angles, and most importantly not being attacked by the ghost leviathan. and not to mention that one creepy fucking track that starts playing when you are in pitch black.
Subnautica needs to add cheese

Video idea:
1 fact about every creature in subnautica
Unknown worlds: we will make a new game that is really different from the original.
Me: why does the crash fish exist still!?!
"The music in below zero is way better then Subnautica."
So you have chosen... death.
Haven't played for half an year so i am mega hyped for the game
“Should you buy Below Zero?”
I actually already did… but I’m confident it was a good purchase!

I bought both subnautics still in early alpha, I'm just going to see what you're saying about that.
I played 500h in the first one and 75h in the "second". But I gonna play it a few more times when I gonna have free time.
I got this game when it came out and have still not given up on it, why? I’ve been waiting for a good update. And holy crap they did it.
Solutions on the food for ice wurm problem, there is food, but it lives in the ice
Kinda creature spoilers
So this game was amazing and i cannot be happier with how they cleaned up many lag and bug issues.
I already bought it for my ps5 and it’s amazing it has stunning graphics and very fun gameplay I’m happy with my purchase!
The game is really good but to me it just fells like a dlc for the original game
I half expected this video to be 5 minutes of just the word "yes" in bold text
The reason why this game is less scarier is because Alterra has gone into the planet for.. idk, precursor stuff? Anyway, that’s why it’s less scarier.
Abandon ship and Sun and Moon were my fave Subnautica song.
I think when somebody enjoyed Subnautica he/she should 100% also buy BZ
Yea but some people cant buy subnautica below zero just because they cant afford it or parents wont allow it :/

jokes on you i preordered it hours ago because it was at a lower price for preorder and i get it for ps5 at no additional costs when i eventually get that.
i played it few months after early access release
the story was different for sure
you would wake up in a base instead crash landing and just starting the game instantly and go where you want
story characters had different personality and entire different set of dialogues
if subnautica 2 was made i expect the world to be bigger idk atleast 8 by 8 km and 5km depth
the story probably would relate to between the first one and standalone DLC or even a prequel entirely we probably can find out in several years if lucky
Loong story short : yes
I’m not scared of the leviathans because I’m so used to the original ones I ALWAYS went into the void after I beat the first subnuatica
I did an investment and bought it when it was first announced development
Waited and waited for it to be almost fully developed and money well spent!
“The music is so much better than the original”
- Crash Site would like to have a word with you
Minor spoilers!
I have played the game and I really enjoyed playing it
I even made a base near every leviathan
I preordered the game for PS4. I’m so exited for May 14th.
Finished below zero with 400 hours on it and still want it on ps4 to play and never got tired of both games
Do you still play as robin or someone new? It's been a while since I've kept up with story progression so I do apologize for the question
yep still robin
I’ve all ready preordered the game it’s coming out on Friday for Australia
I think with the updated graphics and animations (with the development of Below Zero coming to an end) they should update the 1st game just for a little extra polish
I hope they release it on ps4 at gamestop!
It’s on the store if you can’t find it at GameStop!
Yes, yes you should
Edit: In my opinion, Abandon ship is better than into the unknown, simply for the feeling of relief of beating subnautica and the hype it builds for its successor
I can’t wait to pickup my preorder on Friday! I’m so excited
1:18 *sad abandoned ship*
Aci you have made RUclips a better place and I thank you for that 😀
I first bought the game 2 Weeks after its early access release
Below Zero is getting a full release on my birthday whoooooo

I've played it (at least what is out rn) and i loved it, it's different in its own way from the first one, but definitely good
me: I see the title
always me, who played with it: YES.
My answer is wait until release and buy it cuz its fun
im surprised this isn't a 3 second video that is just aci saying yes
I cant wait for the original subnautica to get polished with more detailed textures and it's own weather cycle.
