you should do regular subnautica again but as a no sub challenge. cyclops can be used as surface vessel but no seamoth or prawn. i love playing it that way, get to see alot more and make you appreciate the different plants functions.
I am so happy this update happened, I love Subnautica and have played it a heap of times but havent had the opportunity to play below zero, so now i finally get to use the fabulous big rooms!
@@kylemahler6462 yeah below zero feels more like a cave exploration game than an ocean game im really missing the wide open empty spots of ocean that really creep you out
See I would disagree with these replies. I thought below zero was so much better than the first subnautica. IMO the graphics are way better and I enjoyed that there was actual direction to progress in the game unlike the original subnautica. Even if you enjoyed the open play feeling of subnautica I suggest checking out below zero.
@@MrsZ1 I think below zero isn’t as good as the original because it lacks the sense of a truly open and large world. There’s less biomes and not as many dangerous creatures that makes the subanutica franchise so interesting and one of a kind.
Subnautica is the better game, by far. With that said, Below Zero is amazing, and really grew on me. If you're going into BZ with the intent of objectively comparing it to the original game, you won't like it at all. If you go into it blindly, and treat it as a completely different game from Subnautica, you'll enjoy it
I have wished for the large rooms in Subnautica ever since I found out about them in below zero. I will be back to playing again! love this update and game. Subnautica is the game that got me to start playing video games. love the graphincs in the game, love anything underwater.
It runs better (the open load screen doesn't take so much time anymore), you can actually PIN blueprints you have to the display, objects no longer (as far as I'VE seen) suddenly 'blink' in and out as you approach or move away. There's so much to love about this even if you've played through the story.
I reinstalled once I saw the update. Can confirm that the large rooms kick in once you scan the multipurpose room - but the glass roofs and partitions also get unlocked at the same time. The need for lithium and a lot of enamelled glass might slow down using it in regular playthrough. I was also delighted that the hatch when used above ground puts a regular door and stairs. . .
A fun thing you can also do with the large room and the alien containment, is to stack a large room multiple stories tall, and then place the alien containment tanks offset. So on the bottom large room you can place the tank in the middle or on the ends, and then on the floor above you can place the tank in the middle or end and even if the tanks arent in the same place, they will still connect, letting you build levels inside your base. I know I explained that poorly, but the next time you're building, see for yourself and have fun
This is what I've been trying to do but I don't seem to be able to attach a ladder between the two levels. This ladder bug has been around for a while I hope they get it fixed.
I have already started a new vanilla play through. One thing you hadn't mentioned that I really like that they brought over from BZ is the battery power on each device that uses them.
The larger rooms have been in the experimental branch for a while, I played around with them a bit but will have to give this update a try. Messing around with the large rooms got me to over 500 hours in the game, way more than anything else I've ever played.
Did you know that, if you add another alien containment on a second floor but one "square" to the left or right, it connects the half thats on top of the alien containment
Can honestly say I am not surprised by the location you picked for your base. It is where I would have picked too. Just such a beautiful area. And a little place of peace in the depth before moving on. Just reachable by Seamoth. I have build several bases there myself.
3:05 I can confirm that you get the large room when you scanthe multipurpose room. You can then also get the glass roofs for both rooms. Also; the alien containment in a large room has twice as many places to plant seeds, which is helpfull to have easy acces to crafting inside your base. And you can stack alien contanments on top of eachother to make them connect. It's even possible to stack 2 alien containments on a single alien containment in a T shape and have them both connect to the one below (or above).
That spot by the Ghost Tree is exactly where I want to build my main base! 🥰 The only thing missing is the bathroom stuff, the stove and the fridge... Then it could be my perfect base...
My favorite spot to build a base is in the large blue cave entrance, (just before the river entrance) at the big/round “blood kelp zone” north area. I use 2 nuke reactors
I am very happy for the update, they fixed a ton of bugs that I’m ecstatic to be rid of. It actually has improved the gaming experience by a lot. But there are a few techs from Below Zero that I think should have been included but weren’t. First, I think Al-An’s Quantum Locker and Recyclotron would make even more sense here than in Below Zero, because there is so much more materials to pick up. (I don’t think they should just give it to us, but make us earn it by having us first visit the three Alien Sanctuaries and Download the PDA entries to also unlock the blueprints). The second thing is that none of the bathroom facilities from Marguerit’s base are included. You’d think they would be here along with the Large Room.
OMG they fixed the big room aquarium! I remember in Below Zero it had this awful reflection on the surface that would block my view of the fish inside.
Subnautica is my favourite game of all time, and when i saw this stuff in below zero i was thinking "wouldn't it be so much better if they had this in the original game" lo and behold they added it a week ago and its amazing, its making me enjoy the game even more now
The cool thing about the large room is if you want to make several bases for each biome, a single large room easily contains everything needed. Good for replaying the first one such as hype when the next installment gets closer.

I always preferred making small, compact bases simply for RP purposes (use as little material as possible to conserve on time). I made one of these large rooms in Below Zero but I got tired of working on the insides halfway. They do look great though.
when subnautica was in it's beta stage, i was a beta tester for it on xbox. anyway i got to see the game grow up to be what it is today. i switched to pc gaming about 2+ years ago so i have been considering buying subnautica for it but never did. well luckily it was real cheap in the steam store AND it had the new update so i went ahead and bought n i got to say it's good to be back and playing the OG. Below Zero was ok but i really didnt care for the story as much as i did i the original that might me being bias bc i was kind of apart on the 1st one. i still prefer the cyclops to the sea truck bc one of the things i use to do was i would build an entire temporary base (not main base) is the safe shallows that everything part i would need for a mining trip. then i would place tones of lockers in the cyclops label, deconstruct the temporary base then n place those parts into the locker, then have a locker with food n water then the rest for storage. n just go out on adventures. then when they finally finished the main questline i made pit stops traversing the depths to stop and mine and it gave me time to stop n enjoy each biome. i just didnt get that feeling from Below Zero, BZ is not a bad game again that just might be me being bias to the 1st one.
It's only because it's the large room (you can still stack the bigger containments though ^^), the same as in BZ. Iirc the large room has 4 'slots' for central interior modules - i.e. you could have 4 nuclear reactors in one room - and the bigger containment takes up 2 slots.
anyone else notice the beacon icons that float at the edge of the screen like in SN:BZ? i barely noticed it until i thought i was having some kind of vision problem. lol!
I'm loving the new update... Just upset that not all the mods work, but it's also nice to start with a clean slate... The ONLY thing that is annoying me is that I wish they would fix the ladder part. Let's assume you have 5 floors, every time you go up a ladder it shoves you behind the ladder above meaning you now have to step around the ladder to climb up the next one. The other ladder issue is trying to find the sweet spot to go down and sometimes just one pixel off sends you going up instead of down.
Год назад+1
Ah, good to hear I'm not alone. Yup, hitting the down ladder really annoying, it's just bad UI. I'd make it so when you click a ladder and you look *down*, you go down, and when you look *up*, you go up. Simplest of all. The way it's implemented now, you can look down and still hit a piece of the upward ladder, making you go up.
Honestly as soon as I found out about the large rooms in BZ, I wished with every fibre of my being that they were in the first game; unfortunately I've _just_ finished the game, so I won't be replaying it any time soon. :/
Now that Living Large is a thing, first thing to do is load up a new Hardcore world! Is anyone else having trouble with the survival knife and the indoor plants? I am having a positively wretched time trying to get the knife to pop Marblemellons for their seeds when planted in an interior growbed at my base
I Love Subnautica and Below Zero but I never found them scary, I found playing peaceful and relaxing, When near leviathan's of course it got tense and the roar definitely is scary.
I'm just happy for the optimization fixes. I am on PC. The game felt super janky before the update. I'd get micro stutters, some frame drops, and the terrain/bases would jitter/lag and overall it hampered the experience. Now I'm getting steady 90-100 FPS without any drops or stutters. Everything feels buttery smooth now. Also the pop-in has been drastically improved. It's still there, but it's much less jarring now. :) :)
living large is great that it is no longer beta. now it just remains to be seen if the mods get updated otherwise it is time to revert to previous version.
I have to wonder. With those new Larger rooms, and the new Tanks, Could the tanks connect too? As in stacking to go from one level to another? It would be interesting if you went from floor to floor via tank. 😄

i still prefer the cyclops to the sea truck bc one of the things i use to do was i would build an entire temporary base (not main base) is the safe shallows that everything part i would need for a mining trip. then i would place tones of lockers in the cyclops label, deconstruct the temporary base then n place those parts into the locker, then have a locker with food n water then the rest for storage. n just go out on adventures. then when they finally finished the main questline i made pit stops traversing the depths to stop and mine and it gave me time to stop n enjoy each biome. i just didnt get that feeling from Below Zero, BZ is not a bad game again that just might be me being bias to the 1st one.
did they make the alien containment bigger or does the size depend on the room size?
It's only because it's the large room (you can still stack the bigger containments though ^^), the same as in BZ.
Iirc the large room has 4 'slots' for central interior modules - i.e. you could have 4 nuclear reactors in one room - and the bigger containment takes up 2 slots.
It depends on the room, same size as before in the round rooms, the new larger size in the large rooms.
anyone else notice the beacon icons that float at the edge of the screen like in SN:BZ? i barely noticed it until i thought i was having some kind of vision problem. lol!
I wanna see z1 make a proper survival base with the new update
I'm loving the new update... Just upset that not all the mods work, but it's also nice to start with a clean slate... The ONLY thing that is annoying me is that I wish they would fix the ladder part. Let's assume you have 5 floors, every time you go up a ladder it shoves you behind the ladder above meaning you now have to step around the ladder to climb up the next one. The other ladder issue is trying to find the sweet spot to go down and sometimes just one pixel off sends you going up instead of down.
They fixed the crash fish and the coral tablets so they operate more like below 0
Now that Living Large is a thing, first thing to do is load up a new Hardcore world! Is anyone else having trouble with the survival knife and the indoor plants? I am having a positively wretched time trying to get the knife to pop Marblemellons for their seeds when planted in an interior growbed at my base
Using the Alterra Hub mod will be very interesting and also make stuff a bit more organized as well with the Return of The Ancients mod
once the mod menu is available again...
Still waiting…
i played below 0, map felt too small so i came back to this only to find it got updated :)
living large is great that it is no longer beta. now it just remains to be seen if the mods get updated otherwise it is time to revert to previous version.
crabsquids were bad, but warpers were worse... especially when they yoink you out of your vehicle next to a crabsquid... o.o
I have to wonder. With those new Larger rooms, and the new Tanks, Could the tanks connect too? As in stacking to go from one level to another? It would be interesting if you went from floor to floor via tank. 😄
You can, someone already tested and did it
Yep! I like to do that
Can you double stack the new aquarium and have it go through multiple floors like the round one?
Man how long do we have to wait for the mars game??
finally bigger bases!!!!
Kinda wish they’d added the toilet and shower etc too
Is the update available on the ps4 version
