Oh dear God I remember the extremely old times where the lava zone was just a myth that its only proof was a coordinate that teleported you to a void looking biome
Remember the walls in the Lost River to stop you from going deeper? :D
@@TheLastBacon that was a pain but I also remember before the lost river was even a concept
remember the Hell Hole?
Remember the old prototype versions of subnautica where you just manually pilot a cyclops? Me neither, it was a tech demo and we can’t play it
Or entry to lost river underneath the Aurora? I believe it used to be unlocked by the explosion
I can still remember when we were speculating about the Lava Zone, Sea Emperor etc. Good times man
Ikr! Takes me back so hard :)
2018 was wild-
Fax
Ah, man. I was only 8 when I first heard of it. I remember exploring for all of the details. We only knew of 1 precursor structure, aside of the vents (which were brand new). Good memories.
Good old days
As someone that's only played the final version, this made me *so* uncomfortable. That "familiar but Wrong" feeling was so strong with this video
Ikr? I felt that as well even though I played it during early access later :)
@@TheLastBacon DEJA VU
I used to play Subnautica in the 2016 early access era! Also, I'd like to thank you, because your videos have made me laugh during this hard time in my life. Thanks.
Thank you very much! :) Whatever you're going through, best of luck!
@@connorlancaster7541 no thanks mate. not a fan of religion- the tough time I've been going through is transitioning, and religion hasn't exactly been kind as a result.
@@obiequack4490 :O
yoo so happy for you
i hope it goes well from now on
@@jaquekod815 thanks :)
@@obiequack4490ik this is a year later but i feel u and gl :3
The game was definitely so much spookier back then, with not much life and just a deep empty ocean that version really gives me the chills
Yeah it’s the emptiness that makes it feel super eerie :)
@@TheLastBacon yup
The music in the background also sounds creepier as well
Early acess games are always so cool to watch, especially after seeing the finished product and comparing what changed and what didnt.
Yep exactly! Seeing the before and after is crazy :)
Yea
@@connorlancaster7541 apologies bot, but god unfortunately isnt real
@@kiltedsparrow4918 Where you talking to me?
@@connorlancaster7541 no
9:18 Feels little bit like Giant Sand Castles!
9:52 Also, this model of Salt is actually even in the current build, well only when we collect it from the Water Filtration Machine!
Ah good point! I do like the new salt model for the pickup more :)
Ah, the early days. Back when the water looked like Ice, and all of the animals looked lifeless. Nice job Bacon. You keep it up man.
Haha great description :) Thank you!
Doctor: Ma’am you still got 4 months to go before your baby is ready to be born you can’t rush this.
Woman: Can I at least see the Early Access build.
@@chilomine839 💀
9:58 "The spawns of satan already existed back then."
This one really got me lol
Haha of course they did :D
@@TheLastBacon i call them creepers for obvious reasons, they chase you and explode, but tbh they’re probably less of a threat than creepers, even though they’re faster they deal way less damage and they leave behind the sulphur (i think) which can be used to make stuff, whereas creepers don’t leave anything but your dead body when exploded, if you do kill a creeper they can drop gunpowder which sadly can’t be used to make guns but instead is used to make the ultimate griefing device… idk why i wrote for this long when i should be watching your video, i have never seen your vids before and now i love them, mainly this subnautica early access, but i’ll check your recent vids too
Gotta appreciate how we went from this to the amazing game that we have now. I'm so glad that Subnautica ever came to be as an idea, and from such a talented group such as UWE.
Absolutely :) It was amazing to watch this game improve over the years.
Technically Subnautica as a concept actually goes a bit further back than that original build that people saw during the Early Access as someone was even able to dig up even older builds of the game.
ruclips.net/video/1rp0LneoBeI/видео.html
It’s weird to think I was playing Subnautica before the guy who taught me 99% of the lore of this game was
Dang you're one of the true OGs :)
This feels like a straight fever dream or bad shroom trip after binging current day Subnautica for a week with no sleep.
Haha great description yep :)
It's so fascinating to see that the most of the graphics including the art style, textures, resources, the crashed Aroura, the creatures and more were present back in these early build. Old Subnautica footage is very rare from what I've seen.
Fascinating for sure :) Had so much fun exploring the world!
So much nostalgia from times when this game was early access...
I wish there was way to return to my first gameplay.
I really wish I could erase my memories of the game just so I could experience it again :)
@@TheLastBacon Yeah, same...
I never played early access but I remember watching all of Jacksepticeyes playthroughs back in the day and that's what first got me hooked to Subnautica. It's so nostalgic looking back on it now.
Same actually! Good times :)
God, I remember binge watching all of draegasts, jacksepticeye's and IGN's subnautica videos during 2014-2016, especially remembering when every event was being tested and developed with so much theories and specultuation of the lore. those were the good times.
Right? Those were the good old days :) I remember being so excited for every new update!
Id love to see more videos of this kind! Especially of earlier versions of lava zones and lost river. Theres something so strange about the wide open expanses in those caves
More shall definitely come! :)
I remember playing an Early access build of Subnautica, and I just messed around with the teraforming tool (or whatever it was called).
I loved messing around with the terraformer :)
@@TheLastBacon just thought I would let you guys know, there is a mod called Terraformer Ability or something like that in nexusmods that actually lets you craft and use it! So if you wanna mess around with it again you can just download the mod
Holy cow that's cool. I only discovered Subnautica well after its final release, so seeing all this early stuff is WILD! I kind of love the world walls!
It's super strange looking back at it! :)
Oh my god we’ve come so far! I only found out about subnautica/ wanted to play it when the full game came out, loving this content bacon!
Thank you! :) Yeah the game has really come a long way!
Been watching you for awhile, back in the very start of your subnautica series! sure brings back memories :D
Wow thank you for still being around! :) Really appreciate that!
This is actually pretty cool because it shows you how the graphics have really developed and the gameplay has too. It’s actually cool to see, have a nice day Bacon
Yep exactly :) Thank you, you too!
Let’s go another video, you are definitely my favorite Subnatica RUclipsr, and maybe favorite RUclipsr in general
Thank you very much for the kind words :)
I remember this. Back then, it was the most magical thing I has ever seen, and I fell in love with it immediately. Its amazing to see how far its come. Even today, its still my favourite game ever. Well done Unknown Worlds. Ye turner goodness into greatness
Yep absolutely :) I remember being captivated by the idea so much!
I remember the good old memories of not having the game myself but watching Jacksepticeye play the early access. I had no idea there was a full release until I rediscovered it through his channel, that’s when I bought the game for myself and really started getting immersed into the world.
Really takes me back too :) Waiting for every new leviathan release!
I had no idea it was made in 2014! 8 years ago. It's really come far through these years.
Time freaking flies :)
I never get more happy when I see you uppload. You are so underrated. Would love some more Below Zero modded and Subnautica modded content as well.
Thank you very much! :) More mods shall come!
The juxtaposition of how it looks now when compared to early release is crazy. They did SO MUCH to the game, the Grand Reef wasn't even a thing, reminds me of going back to old 1.0 version of the Forest and realizing how little was in the game, no Sinkhole one small cave system, 2 house options and 2 types of cannibals.
Absolutely :) It’s amazing to see how far it’s come!
Oh man, this is crazy nostalgic for me! Definitely watching the whole playlist because early video game content is so damn rad imo and I was even around for Subnautica's early days.
Yay enjoy! :)
I’ve been waiting for a video like this for a while. It’s great.
Thanks! Really hope you enjoy! :)
@@TheLastBacon I very much enjoyed
Love your content bro
Your voice just feels so good to listen
Thank you very much :)
Wow you just unlocked a whole load of middle school memories. I remember seeing the walls in the far lands in one of IGPs videos and it terrified me so much as a kid
Yep - this really hits different :)
I remember these versions extremely well.. it kinda makes me nostalgic to witness entire development of this game.
9:28 ahaha yeah I used to dig sand and store stuff in it back then
I also remember terraformer and "blueprint scanner thingy" lol they were weird
Good old days :)
That brings back some old memories. It was 2017 when I first heard about Subnautica. And now, after 4 years after first game relese, we're waiting for another sequel. Time goes by so fast...
It sure does - makes me feel old :D
LOOOOVE ur videos, they just make me feel good:) makes my day man🔥
Thank you so much :)
Haven’t seen you in a while. Good to be back
Welcome back! :)
Cool video, it’s interesting to see the difference between versions
Thank you :) It's awesome to look at where it all started.
Yess thank you for making this a video the older version of subnautica is so unnerving
It was unnerving for sure :) So uncanny!
I'm so excited if you do make another early acces video! I've always heard about that hole to the lava zone and can't find anything about it online so I would really love to see it please!
I'll definitely make more! :)
I used to watch these on an old YT account, so glad I found this channel again
Yay :)
Hello Bacon, love your vids! Keep going!
Hey thank you! :)
Wow, the game has changed tremendously!!! Good video (as always)
It sure has :) Thank you!
@@TheLastBacon and always so quick to respond to his fans. What. A. Guy.
This is so scary, everything is so bare and its just sand. It all looks like the dunes, i am expecting my boy the reaper to come out of nowhere (:
Right? I was just waiting for something terrifying around every corner :)
watching this gave me less of a liminal/backrooms feel and more of a nostalgic one tbh! i was just a preteen when subnautica got popular on youtube and i would watch gameplay religiously everyday after school. seeing the weird textures, missing particles, janky controls, it all takes me back. good times.
also "that controls... absolutely horrendously 🥰" made me laugh so hard, that's the peak beta subnautica experience right there
I felt the same way :) For me this was high-school and I really miss the simple times.
I loved the old Erie music that subnautica had back then it just added to the feeling of like you're being watched or something from the deeper darker parts of the ocean.
Yeah it actually made the whole game feel really eerie :)
Love your content! Keep going :)
Thank you :)
Haven't watched you in a long time but still making bangers
Thank you kindly! :)
Welcome
The Last Bacon
Love the videos keep it up man :)
Thank you! :)
Man... the feels I get are so nostalgic and good! As well as the memories! I played the game a bit here and there between 2014 and 2018, more for exploring, building, fooling around and enjoying the scenery.
Recently I started watching some videos on modern Subnaitica, which wowed A LOT with how much progress, but seeing how it started, how it used to be... It brings me faith and believe in developers! Not the big AAA studios, but the small ones, that continue working on their projects long after their first public release. It show true passion and dedication, not just a money-grab project (like many AAA are...)
I get the same feels with No Man's Sky, an early disaster, but a very mature and respectable game now!!! I wounder how Elite: Dangerous is doing, I'll check it out when I get to have free time again.
Yep absolutely :) It’s awesome to see how far this game has gone!
I hope somebody makes a full transfused mod so we can see what it would have been like in the base game. I love your vids can't wait to see what's next
That would be awesome! :)
The spookiest part was you mentioning the existence of this "void" place as if its a thing every Subnatica player knows, yet, I don't, so is like "Is there an unholy bottomless pit in my game that I'm blissfully unaware of"
Yep! It's around all the edges of the map :)
oh yeah, I remember that! the mushroom tree biome used to destroy the game since each plate was a whole bunch of fragments glued together, & they'd break apart into pieces if you bumped them with your vehicle - but all of the models were still there
Lol good times :)
Oh yay! I’ve been waiting for something like this.
Hope you enjoy! :)
You know this game is amazing imagine a movie that would be really cool
I'd love to see it :)
@@TheLastBacon ryley throughout the whole movie: 🗿
Yes please continue this. It was very interesting!
I sure will :)
i love these gaming history videos :)
Same! :)
That opening narration was actually pretty cool I wish they kept that in
It definitely wasn’t bad :)
It’s crazy for me to see this. I first heard of this game about a month ago.. bought it right away and started the game and I fell in love with it right away.
I’m halfway through it now and I’m taking it slow and enjoying it.
Zero below is down loaded and ready for wenn I’m done with SN🤘🏻
Yay that sounds awesome! Hope you enjoy BZ too! :)
To be honest, back in 2014 it was actually a good game with good graphics
Yeah it definitely wasn't bad :)
@@TheLastBacon good graphics just no plants
I love the music that plays when we enter the far lands
Love that spooky Below Zero soundtrack :)
I remember getting this version of this game back when it first went into early access, such a different experience to what the end game was
We’ve certainly come a long way yep :)
Truly amazing
Thank you :)
@@TheLastBacon
Its a shame this didn't get more views. This is an awesome watch to see where it all began
It really made me feel nostalgic :)
Yes more of this. That twisty bridges thing sounds interesting. I got into the game much later so Earlier access stuff is basically unknown to me. I did know there was an early access, but what it was like and what sort of stuff was ounce in it that isn't anymore would be very interesting.
More shall come! :)
Gosh I loved it, i really wanna know everything that was in their minds back then and how it evolved
Thank you! I'm so curious to explore this world more! :)
The Last Bacon becoming uncanny as He descends into the Old Subnautica depths
Haha exactly :)
Why are all the small youtubers always the best ones
Yay thank you :)
Thank you for this, my sister is getting surgery tomorrow, and I'm really worried for her. This video took my mind off of it and really helped me with my nerves.
Best of luck! I’m sure she will be ok :)
@@TheLastBacon I'm glad you reply to all of your comments, if im feeling down I know I can comment on one of your vids and get some supportive words back. You mean a lot to me
Ah the memories. I remember when most items when you dropped them and crafted them were just BLOCKS
Good times! :)
@@TheLastBacon Yes, yes they were. I bought the game when it just came out and I am very happy too see what it became over the years. now i'm doing a NITROX MP run w friends
5:35
yeah no, aci found someone who managed to get that early access map into the current version of the game, and if seems as if that area was like a testing ground for both the koosh zone, and the mushroom forest
also, the aurora back then was nothing but a jpeg slapped onto the background, and the reapers we all know and love today were only added in a later update, one that happened after the aurora's first revamp
Ah that makes sense that it was just a testing ground - since you weren't supposed to come close to the Aurora anyway :)
Always great to revisit old versions of game. Like the forest, in the old versions I appreciate the guaranteed one-shot kill if you hit a certain part. (Mostly with a ranged weapon)
Oh I should really check out the early versions of The Forest :)
Well this is just CRISPY!!! And another CRISPY thing is that im in Paris right now. So i can enjoy this CRISPY video while dying from the heat here.
Yay that's awesome! How is Paris? :)
@@TheLastBacon its hot but its also fun to be here. Theres a lot of stuff to see.
Man this takes me back
Same! :)
I used to watch WeaselZone play this every morning back when I was in 8th/9th grade in 2014. So much has changed.
Takes me back too :)
It is gonna be fascinating to see how it was in the early access till it was fully released
It really was :)
So much nostalgia!
An incredible amount :)
Wow, the early access of Subnautica looks so different, it is exciting to see what we have now After 4 years of development. I bet the game was still good back then as good as it is today
Yeah the game has certainly changed a LOT! :)
Honestly Subnautica is such an amazing underrated game i wish more people would play it
It certainly started very underrated :)
I've actually been following Subnautica almost since the very beginning when FRANKIEonPC did his three video showcase of it. He got eaten by a Reaper at the end, which set the tone of this game for me pretty early. Looking back now I realize he exhausted all of the content that was in the game up to that point, which was a common trend for RUclipsrs back then before the updates.
Yep true :) Good times!
damn, this takes me back.. i adore the old versions of the game but do love the finished product even more. fdsdffds
Yeah takes me back too :)
Really enjoyed watching. Subnautica is an amazing game 💯
Totally agree :)
For the record, there ARE older versions than this, just not on Steam. The VERY original versions of the game featured Stalkers that looked like Lava Lizards (because that was the original Stalker model), the Aurora was just a backdrop and not a place you could physically swim to, and the only biomes were the Safe Shallows, Creepvine Forest, and Grassy Plateaus. Good times.
Oh yeah that's true! Good point - now I have to go hunting for those! :)
i remember only starting the game around the time the ghost leviathan came out, it was a treat to experience it then
I remember the hype around new leviathans being added :)
My man literally traveled back in time for memories
Haha exactly :)
Ngl better than I expected
Definitely :)
I remember when quartz used to be really bright, to the point where during the night it stuck out like sore thumb, and that made quartz easy to get
Good times :)
i started around 2015-2016 and this is super nostalgic
Takes me back too :)
if you could get your hands on the subnautica build with the old lava zone entrance under the aurora, thousands would watch it XD
I'd love to try :)
I really enjoyed this video though it’s very interesting to see what this game used to look like. I’m a new subnatica fan
Thank you :) Really glad you enjoyed it!
No problem :) also it’s creepy to see subnatica so empty with almost no life
im pretty sure the reason that things look so weird (besides the fact that its really empty and just sand) is because it used to be randomly generated. Thats probably why the small island in front of the Aurora looks like that and its also probably why the walls around the map are not straight and instead very strange looking.
I suppose it could be some leftover stuff from those days during development :)
this gave me some real nostalgia
Same :)
Doing stuff like this makes you realise how much has changed
Exactly :) We've really come far!
Now you should try out the version where there was a hole leading from the Aurora to the lava zone,it would be so cool to watch :D
I'd love to get my hands on it :)
What's crazy is when we first seen this early access game we were astounded😂
Yep totally! :)
I remember watching youtubers like Jacksepticeye play this back in early access. I still remember when they first added base building
Good times! :) Feels like a lifetime ago!
@@TheLastBacon It really does, It's amazing how long these last 8 years have felt. I look forward to your future content, keep up the good work!
I still have a save of around mid early access where you could put solar panels on the Cyclops. iirc It actually still charges in the current version of the game.
Fun times.
Ow, and end of early access I got to the lava zone, and found a base in the middle of nowhere. Took me a bit to realize it was my own base. One that I placed there like a year before when you had the terrain deformation tool and I dug a tunnel straight down from the safe shallows into a dark empty cave.
Ah I remember the infinite power cyclops :) Good times!
Getting Jack playing Subnautica memories..
Takes me back for sure :D
I remember the twisty bridges in this I completely forgot about that definitely look for them!
I'll look for them for sure :)
It's crazy to see subnautixa went from this to a third game coming to the series
Yep - how far we've come! :)
1:40 THATS THE EXACT SAME LIFEPOD MODEL AS OBE OF THE ORIGINAL CINEMATIC TRAILERS
It sure is! :)
