note These buses were returned on April 11, they are gone now. I had a great time riding these this last week.
Finally got to ride a 6V92TA bus. What an awesome experience. This is what a real bus sounds like.
Check out the freeway run from 6:20-12:00, Wow, incredible!!! More than five minutes of pure ecstasy. This bus was beast!!!
Any stats or information about this bus is appreciated and will be updated with credit to person. Thank you.

Your comment about "this is what a real bus is supposed to sound like" is exactly what I was thinking when I was watching this. That's the sound I remember from when I was a kid back in the 80's. Problem was, back then I didn't know a 2-stroke from a 4-stroke, an inline from a V- type, a gas from a diesel, so I didn't fully appreciate what I was experiencing.

Awesome you got all of these videos! I was out driving this route everyday. You caught me driving in your video of bus 1230. We turn the lights off at night because it creates a really bad glare on the windshield and makes it hard to see when driving. Thanks for sharing these!

I miss these RTS buses so much. We had them in Charlotte back in the 80's and 90's. Now we have Nova and Gillig buses. Not the same.

I remember we also had buses like these in Columbia, South Carolina back in the 80s and 90s the Electric and Gas Company ran the buses they had the RTS buses rear end styled like the new look fishbowl buses!!! Those buses had the 6v92 Detroit diesels and 6v71 engines those buses sounded great but they use to smoke a whole lot when they took off!!!

this bus just screams and shouts going into second gear. Last time I drove this bus was in San Francisco during the BART Strike shuttle.

And that was me driving 1230 I believe. Cool that you caught that on video! I've shared your videos with my supervisor and a few other drivers that were down there as well!

How cool you were the driver. It was my daughter and myself that were riding on #1230 that night I did the video. She enjoys bus riding with me, and so enjoyed the riding the Neoplans when they were still in service for LACMTA. She was so happy that night to be able to ride a Neoplan again. We both thought we wouldn't ever be able to ride those again, it was a treat for the two of us.

Yeah we are based out of Sun Valley, CA and operate a yard out of Wilmington, CA. We enjoyed the Oceanside contract but was also hell and we are glad to be gone. It took a major toll on all of us as drivers and our buses as well. Glad you enjoyed riding our buses!

Sadly as of the end of this year, this will be out lawed in California because of that 6v92, and it is all because of that darn clean air bill! >:^(

Thanks. I'm heading back up there to north county SD the next 3 days a few hours Wed and Thur and spending entire day Friday to capture more. This is my big chance to capture and enjoy riding what I have missed as a late arrival to the hobby. Heard today these buses may only be here two more weeks, so very focused on capturing more and more.

The fastest I have ever been on these RTS buses was back in 1994.......the M98 from midtown to Washington heights.
It was a 8400s identification number. After 8399 the back windows had the ear flaps.
Also I think that MTA modified some of them the exhaust systems. They had a higher engine idle and over 35 mph, the engines sounded like Chevy 305 v8!!
    I kid you not!!!!

Now we got the retiring bluebird buses the 2010 New Flyer D35LFRs and the new 2017 New Flyer XD35s and XD40s I can't wait until they get rid of the rest of the bluebird buses they weren't even real transit buses all those was just school buses 5 the bluebird caught fire the 2 that caught in 2007 was a 25ft Compressed Natural Gas Powered bluebird CS bus #107 the other one was a CS regular diesel powered bus #402 this one caught fire right on the property of the bus garage bus #411 was on the way OB to mall when it caught fire the bus #310 I'm not sure where this fire happened or how it's engine caught fire but this bus caught fire from my understanding in August or September 2016 bus #207 was on interstate 277 when it caught fire January 30, 2017 due to engine issues.

Typical California, whats new. All these and so many more regulations, coming from a govt that can't manage their affairs, yet seem determined to tell us here how to manage ours. That's CARB for ya. Just try and tell CARB too that clean diesel technology is cleaner than CNG now, and they'll flip out and deny it. Simply amazing isn't it?
