NYC had the some of these RTS buses with the higher idle. Im not sure if the MTA did in house exhaust modifications. However most of the RTS buses we had from 1990 until 1993 sounded just like this one in the video. We had gotten these from 1990 until 1993 and after that we got them with the series 50 engine. Our numbers were from 8000 until 8599....we had the best ones. After about 35 mph, the high idle ones would sound like a small block V8. Kind of like a Chevy 305 or 350. I kid you not!!! They also uses to make varying whistle noises. They sounded really cool still I really miss those days
CiBoii2 I remember hearing this as a kid because I grew up in Boston and the T(MBTA) had a whole fleet of these things and I just love the sound of that that 6v92
the tmc rts can do that unlike the grumman flxible 870 and flxible metro buses you have to turn off the air conditioner to get up the hills and bridges to get a running start most drivers like them others hate them mechanics on both sides of the bus nj transit use to have 1000 +flxible products back in the 80s
Middle of the night searched this video just to bring me back to a better time in life. I miss these buses

I've riden on a 1990 mci coach with a 8v92 and it took time to accelerate up to 70 mph!!
Javon to say hi and nice meet you.
JAMAICA BUSES INC. RTS BUS 1986
ex long beach transportation company Inc back then the buses were white with blue stripe GMC rapid transit series was a sloping back bus back in 1977
1993 RTS came with 6Vs in Long Beach? They were not "repowered" to Series 50s? I Like the aluminum subway seats!
LBT never repowered the RTS fleet their entire life.
