Oh Kino! I have been practicing these! I did this video earlier today before practice. I cannot believe I finally did supta kurmasana. I stretched my hips before and the practice opened the space. I got my left foot behind and then wrapped my right foot. I then gently lowered to the mat and binded! It was the most beautiful experience to have! A couple months ago, this pose made me cry and I didn't know why. Now that I finally did it, I feel so at peace with whatever it was I cried about. Today is a happy day! I put a video on my Instagram of it. I hope to inspire many people to begin yoga as you did for me! Yoga is a blessing! Thank you kino for guiding me down a beautiful path! 🙏🏼😊😊
Since following your videos, I've noticed some bad habits that I picked up from working as a contortionist. For example, I can put my legs behind my head but I think I was bending more from my back and less from my hips. My hips are less open than I thought. I've learned so much about myself through my yoga journey. Thank you for being my guide.
I can finally do the phone and even reach my foot to the back of my head! Not behind the neck yet, but getting there. Thanks for the wonderful videos, Kino!
Yessssssss girl! This was so awesome. I almost made it to get my foot behind my head, and I almost have forearm stance because of your videos. You are so calm and encouraging. Thank you for your videos!!!!!
I look at your videos all the time I can feel the difference in my body in two months of trying . I can now do things i was never able to like my ankle behind my head wow!!! It's amazing
Thank you so much, Kino! I so appreciate the "journey to being a nice person" far more than the physical (tho that was amazing, too, & my hips & back thank you)...such a great reminder for our own internal messages...and how they spread to others! 🥰 Grace & Peace, sister. 🙏
Thank you so much Kino, this is so helpful!! After a lower back injury which happened to me precisely because of leg-behind-the-head postures, I was unwilling to try them again. Doing this video just now has made me realize just how much I had forced the process on the days leading up to the injury, which is exactly what caused it. It was definitely a major learning experience, though. Thanks again!
I am currently trying to get my leg behind the head to dive deeper into my ashtanga practice and this video is so helpful! Will do it 2x week along with ashtanga, yin, and splits! :) Thank you so much for putting this video together! :) Love your RUclips channel and OMSTARS (signed up earlier this year and absolutely love it!!) :))
Thank you for the great step by step approach into the deep hip openers. It is a wonderful addition to the daily practice and with patience and consistency the hip muscles will release so we could go deeper into the asana practice. Thank you girl. Namaste!
Kino...whatever you say is always true and I love it! You really inspire me and I am so happy I found you on youtube...I started my Yoga journey 6 months ago and I am so happy I am becoming a better person...and soon my foot will be behind my head also...kkk ...love you! God bless you, thanks for everything!
Omg I haven't done any sort of exercise, yoga or anything in SOOO long.... I couldn't believe I actually was able to do this today.... I'm SO. Proud of myself..... Although I couldn't get my feet behind my head like I used to; I still kept going... Yay
When I was in the middle of trying to get my leg behind the head I was starting to get fustrated because I can't seem to do it yet. Then at the end of the class you help me to keep calm, and keep telling my self what I ready know. Is to be patient, and be steady, and one day I will be able to get my head behind the head. Just like the splits. All my life I have never been able to do the splits and it wasn't until my 2 or 3 month of doing yoga where I started to realize that if I rush the process then the journey of yoga will not be as much fun. Not only fun but I would not truly understand where I was and what I was doing. Now I am able to do really master the splits. When I was in the journey of getting the splits down I would as beat myself down because i would get stuck in the pose and my hips would be a few inches off the ground, and all I wanted was to get my split to sitting on the ground. I have to then tune in and tell myself to calm down and when my body is ready it my hips will kiss the mat in splits.
Amazing practice. At some point, i had to pause the video after the second pigeon. My mid inner stomach was unbalanced for a moment. But after a few breaths, i was fine and continued the practice. Thank you for this Kino!
thanks a lot. I started my ashtanga journey after watching video on RUclips. i learned a lot form you. you inspire me to stay on my yoga track. and i treat you as my first ashtanga teacher. and i stay in China, will you come ShangHai do a workshop next May? if the schedule get confirmed, pls do let me know, i definitely going to attend.
Thank you so much for all that you're sharing with us! And all your reminds to keep the attitude of grace and peace with the body are wonderful) Love your work
Kino! thank for the great class, i actually felt sth twisting in my thighs while trying to get me leg behind my head at the last pause. i think i should do some more poses before getting into it! any idea? thank you
Really great Kino! Question for you- I have very open hips so toe to the ear is fine in my hips but hard for my upper back- any way to strengthen and open this other than back bends? thanks!
I love all your videos but I especially love this one, it's challenging but I really like how you refer to the hips as pigeons it makes sense then not to push them too hard :)
Hi Kino! I have been practicing yoga for 2 years now and have recently been able to put my leg behind the head. However, some days I get paresthesia/pins and needles sensation on my leg below the knees. What can I do to prevent that? Am I not stretching enough?
Thank you very much, Kino! It was beautiful! I've always been thinking about the process of getting your feet behing your head. Now I know, how to do it (and that it's a wonderful challenge) 😸
I love this video! And I really like your yoga style, Kino! I have NEVER been so open in my hips before... After doing this video for just about a week now I can do a Half Lotus; its crazy!!! Thank u soooo soooo much :-D
I really love your videos Kino! But there are 5! ads interrupting the video. I don't mind ads at the start and the end, but in between is really something else. Especially in a yoga video :(
Hi all. I am trying to open my hips while also allows some MCL strains in both knees to heal. Have any of you engaged with these videos successfully while also nursing your knees back to full health?
Namaste, Kino :) I'm a yoga teacher myself, and have started practicing your beautiful videos a few times a week for my own personal practice sessions and I find so much inspiration and connection (I have never practiced Ashtanga yoga, only Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga Krama as taught by Srivatsa Ramaswami). I love the exquisite variety and beautiful flow of energy in your sequences, thank you for being an inspiration, especially in these advanced yoga videos, I love them and have learned so much from you these past few weeks. There are still many postures that I have not yet mastered and you have been helping me so much in my own personal journey along the path of yoga. Thank you xoxo Rachel
Yes, during the lift up portion :). I've seen it both ways, but I've always practiced my legs behind my arms. I went to a workshop and was corrected to putting my legs through my arms. It made my spine feel awful. I was wondering if putting my legs behind my arms would also be acceptable or if I should slowly work towards putting my legs through my arms.
Hello Kino! I have a question, I have been practicing Ashtanga for nearly 5 years now, and while I began being slightly more flexible than is average, I have noticed tremendous opening in my left side, specifically in the hips, without a parallel change in the right. The left, my leg goes behind the head with ease while the right can barely be pulled to the forehead. With Ashtanga being so consistent between sides, this really has me confused! Should I stop accessing my edge and full range of motion on my left until the right catches up? What is your advice??
We did hip openers this weekend and I was dying and sweating my arse off. One thing I do have questions about is this foreign language you and my instructor uses..... I like most just go along with it but have no idea what you guys are saying. Is this common? Example at 3:20? what does that mean? Also at the end of our session when the hands are together and the instruction bids us farewell.... what does that all mean? I hope these aren't stupid questions.... cheers!
That language is Sanskrit, the universal language of yoga. It's used in tradition for the postures, and they're based on sound resonance and how it interacts with the body. The vibrations created by Sanskrit language pertain to the area of the body being focused on. When a teacher says "utkatasana," it exudes strength and radiates energy into your hips and thighs. In your journey, as your teachers repeat the Sanskrit words, you'll start to familiarize yourself with their postures and even begin to notice the changes to the flow of energy. And rest assured, you can practice ANYWHERE in the world if a teacher uses Sanskrit!
At 3:20, parsvakonasana; "pars" =side "kon"= angle "asana"=pose. At 6:44, chaturanga dandasana: "chat"= four, "anga" =limb "dand"= staff, "asana" =pose "Om" pronounced like "aum" is the universal sound of creation, the sound that resonates in harmony with every cell in our body, as we were created from it. It brings peace and stillness.
Thank you so much for all your videos, post on Instagram you are really an inspiration for me, to practice yoga almost everyday, even if it's just for few minutes. Hope one day you will come in France for some classes :)
I hope you are truly aware of how incredible you are. This world is so fortunate to have you Kino. Thank you for your presence here on this planet.

your are very good practicer
Hi kino where are you in Miami?
When practicing dwi pada sirsasana should my hips come through my arms or rest against the backs of my arms?
In the lift-up portion? That depends on anatomy.

Should I stop accessing my edge and full range of motion on my left until the right catches up? What is your advice??
Just keep practicing. The body holds onto to tension in unique ways. With consistent practice over many years it will eventually even out.
