YOU'RE THE BEST. I've stop doing physical activities due to depression for a long period of time and now I want to go back to my 1st love which is yoga and your videos are helping me a lot to finally go back in track. God bless you and Namaste🙏💖🙌
I'm a beginner coming from Kundalini yoga and falling in love with Ashtanga too. I've been doing this for two weeks now and (I can't believe) I'm slowly getting back the flexibility of my spine. Thanks Kino!!!
This video is great!! Thank you so much. I am just now able to do backbends again after having major surgery last year. It has been a long recovery but so thankful for videos like this on RUclips.
Hi Kino, I have been on a yoga journey for the last couple of years (discovering new teachers) I am so happy to have come full circle n found you again, the beautiful person who inspired n taught me so much about yoga...not only the physical side. Thank you xo Namasté
ive always had difficulty with backbends, it gives me a horrible headache that feels like my brain is freezing, this is the only sequence i tried that has been very helpful. i am a beginner and i appreciate the wisdom you share along with your videos. thank you!
It is tough, mostly because it's not for beginners. Backbend is very challenging, and usually we have stiff muscles in this area. Trying this deep and advanced stretches you will struggle for sure. I prefer to give adaptations to slowly step by step go for deeper stretch is your body is really ready.
Yep. But if you're starting, you don't need to do super deep stretch. You can follow along with that but stop where your body can endure. It is not easy, but if you won't try and do what you can at the moment, you'll never progress. There is really no super easy stretch for a beginner.
It took me years to open my shoulders to enter safely into Wheel pose.. ...I'm glad I took the time and had the patience.....now it's a pleasure to breathe there.
As a beginner I LOVE this video. I have been practacing yoga for about a month. It is definatly not easy and I could not do all the poses on the first attempt but if you are expecting yoga to be easy then you probably shouldn't be doing it!
I've always admired people who can do this stuff, I never thought that I would be able to, but I followed the steps in this video and was amazed that I could actually do it!
Loved this video Kino! I am not flexible in my lower back so I will be using this video to help me get there before I attend teacher training in May :) Your ability to let negative comments roll off your back and answer in such a classy way makes me proud to be a fellow yogi!
She clearly states never to force anything. Before even attempting yoga it's important to know your limits & what you're capable of. I absolutely love this video. There were things I couldn't do so I didn't push it. I was happy with what I could do & will try more the next time. Loved this video Kino! Ps.... I am in love with those Yoga pants!
All of these complaints...Kino's yoga videos are offered for FREE, so what are you complaining about? Also, who is so silly to think that BACKBENDS are for someone who has never done yoga before? Obviously this fantastic and helpful video is for beginners to backbends - not beginners to yoga at all!
Gotta admit, this yoga stuff really relaxes me and helps me with stress. Glad you created the beginner yoga part of your channel. Some of its a little tough(cause I'm a rookie) but I ain't stopping. Thanx Kino. Namaste!
Hey kino I like yoga and I'm thinking of picking back up again. Anyways ty for making thease videos. God had reminded me of rodney yee when he said try to breath when u feel like you are crowded or caved in and one day you will be free. Just dont give up on yourself. That's when I realize. I was a yogi.
Amazing! I was always really scared of backbends, but this video helped me so much. I am slowly working towards creating more strength and more space and I can already really feel the difference in my body. Thank you so much!
Hey Kino. Thanks for such awesome videos.., I could never even think of a back bent 6 months ago, with consistent practice and your video tips, I can do them now. This practice makes me so vulnerable and powerful at the same time ..Thank you, Thank you, Thank you xxx
It IS a beginner video, except that the video is little fast. Take notes and take step by step and 15 mins video will turn easily into 2 hours. Thank you Kino.
Thank you for a wonderful backbend practice ❤ Coming from back problems since chilhood, I usually get scared to hurt my back when I do yoga but I try not to let that hold me back. Even tho I can't hold my pose for a long time because it hurts a lot I take it day by day and keep moving forward. A part of me gets sad that I can't advance as quick as I want to but I'm learning to be ok with my slow process. Yoga is not a race and I'm learning to love myself and to heal my body with every practice. Thank you again. Namaste 🙏
I'm a huge fan of you Kino, but I have to agree with the comments below, this is definitely not a beginner video and could easily lead to injury. None of the videos I've watched that are titled "beginner", are beginner! And most of the times, it is pointed out in the comments, not only by biased haters, but probably people are just trying to help those who really are beginners so that they wouldn't hurt themselves. I'm very passionate about Ashtanga yoga thanks to you and very inspired by your teachings and wisdom, but I hardy ever get to finish a practice with your videos, but the first asanas are usually great for gaining strength. Anyway, this probably won't get a reply, I wouldn't doubt your authenticity, but this really brings up a lot of questions...
Thank you so much for your feedback. I've listened to people's comments and created a one month beginner challenge. Would you mind checking that out to see if you feel it starts off and truly address absolute beginners?
Thank you. Yup , the dumbing down of the intellectual process so prevalent in internet comments seems to now paint any and all constructive criticism as hateful. Intention is the key. If a comment is meant to alert an unprepared beginner away from a possible injury or from having a truly discouraging initial yogic experience than I'm all for reading those types of comments. I call it feedback not hate. ;-0) Take it or leave but please don't try to silence me when I give it. It's really a gift in disguise.
I have never had an instruction to put my elbows down in Wheel and I have had dozens of different teachers. I like Camel the best out of all the beckbends because it's really easy. You're just on your knees rather than having to use your arms intensely like in Wheel. One teacher blew my mind when she included lots of Camel throughout the class. She said go from downward dog to table to child's pose to camel, then eventually from camel to child's to table to downward dog! So much better than wasting all your energy in 1 or 2 wheel poses, we ended up doing at least 6 or 7 camels if not way more.
I address to all those who point out this is not a beginner video. Well it is challenging, but THE MOST IMPORTANT WARNING Kino gives, as well as other teachers do, is to respect your own body and this means to respect its limitations too. Patience and practice are the keys, not the rush to get in the "perfect" pose as soon as possible with no respect of your body. Yoga IS challenging, this video is challenging and I find it hard. too But I know how deep I can go and I know when I should stop and say "well this is enough, my body took me to this point and I am grateful". There's no need to grab and desperately push your body. Just give yourselves time. Live the whole journey and feel free to experience and accept all the emotions it brings. Learn more about yourselves through accomplishments and failures that come with the practice of yoga. :)
Running for beginners! "So you're new to running? Today we'll be doing a marathon. *Remember, it's important to respect your body and its limits... Now, marathon time! Look at me go for 26 miles!" Seems to me you wouldn't need a few paragraphs of logic gymnastics to inspire people (i.e., clarify why they shouldn't give up right away) if you hadn't discouraged them in the first place by labeling advanced maneuvers as for "beginners." This is Kino's whole thing. She does it on many videos. Labels it as for beginners, does advanced moves, and just pretends everyone should be able to do that. Her pigeon pose video is a perfect example. After watching and determining I was utterly hopeless, I literally had given up on yoga. I only tried again when I came across someone else, who was not misleading and discouraging. The average person might not be able to tell what's for beginners and what's not. I couldn't, at first, which is why it seemed I needed to quit since I couldn't even come close to the "beginner" moves. I literally couldn't even get into the pre-stretch starting position of the "beginner" moves. But I'm a novice. Someone like Kino? Come on. Either she is monumentally stupid ("you mean these people that haven't exercised since grade school can't run a marathon??"), which I don't believe for a second, or she is deliberately labeling these videos as "for beginners" for more hits, or to make herself feel good, or for whatever reason. That'd be fine if she wasn't sacrificing the viewers she's pretending to help. It's not that complicated. If you're an authority figure like Kino and say something is for beginners (in other words, "look, this is step one, it's easy"), but that thing is physically impossible for many people, then those people will understandably feel like they can never do it, and give up. Kino knows this, but has the word Beginner in the title and thumbnail of advanced videos. I wish she WAS stupid, because that'd mean she's not actively working to keep others out of yoga. I'm not good at much, but I can catch footballs well. If I said, "Catching a football with one hand is easy" to my teammate who has a hard time with it, I'd be insensitive. If I made a video that said, "Here's how to catch a football for beginners" and started with one-handed catches, and showed it to thousands of people that really wanted to get into catching footballs, I'd be a selfish, irresponsible, mean person, who is good at catching but an abhorrent teacher, even if my tips were technically sound. God, from a teaching perspective, what's worse than discouraging those that came to you to learn? This is still something that can be fixed, if she just re-labels some things. I've seen her comment that she's accepted feedback in the form of creating actual beginner videos. That's great, but as long as these are up, this is a problem.
Mechanicalgift I have been doing yoga for almost two years and I find it hard because she didn’t explain it well and used Sanskrit words that I didn’t know what they were so I had to keep looking at the video but I did like the practice
The camel pose was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I am pretty new to yoga, so its hard especially since I am obese. I am working towards a camel pose and watching your video just amazes me
Thank you for this video! I love to learn yoga from you through your videos. Your instructions are clear, for example "shoulders forward, suck your stomach and breathe using the chest" etc. They make difference. Thanks again!
once again thanks kino... hoping to c longer videos. please do your practice session of ashtanga series (with voice over preferably) so tat v get to practice with u.
I really enjoyed this video, good clear instructions and encouraging through out. My problem was I can't do a wheel pose so that section of the video was too much for me. Any recommendations/advice/warm up poses for getting shoulders and head off the ground for wheel pose would be great!
I'd love if you could do a tutorial video on how to transition from tripod headstand into astavakrasana. I have a hard time fitting my leg under my arm, so if you could help me out, I'd be so thankful! You are the only teacher I have at this time since there is no shala in my area :-)
What a great video! Your directions are very clear and there are tons of stretches you show that look very helpful for the backbend. Cant wait to try these! Thanks
I have a problem doing standing backbends only, my lower back always hurts. Could you maybe do a tutorial on that or perhaps give me some advice? Thanks!
I’m probably more intermediate. I’m naturally more flexible than normal and I’ve been doing yoga for about a year. But thanks to this video I did my first full backbend I’m sweating like crazy but I feel amazing
Hi Kino, Thnx for you video. Backbend is so difficult for me and I need more video from you. I just wonder your personel advice bout yoga wheel can be more usefull to improvement? Thank you for your answer :)))
Guys this WAS a beginner video because you have to practice much more before this. She never said to force yourself to do something which makes it as a beginner one. Advanced yoga is much much much more harder than this.
I managed this too. I am happy :-) Kino am I able to email you at all to ask you a few questions? It's a tad personal about my struggle with anxiety and I'd like to ask you a question or 2 about my practice. Thank you for your daily periscope videos, they are a real comfort.
Dear Kino, how can I open my shoulders for backbends, I feel that I am mainly restricted by tight shoulders that won't let my arms reach back far enough, whilst my lower back could easily bend further... Do you have any tricks for strong shoulder openers?
Just got into my first backbend with this video! So awesome. Once I pushed up, the very middle of my back really hurt and I immediately came out so as not to strain my back. Is that a normal pain that i shouldn't be afraid of or does it signal a deeper issue? Thank you!!!!! So awesome finally getting into a backbend... Going to bed so happy and proud :)
hey! this might be a little bit late but I think that you should take it more slowly. Practice the bridge and the camel pose until you feel more comfortable in it and can bring your thighs more together, this should ease you back. Don't force a pose if it hurts you. It surely feels uncomfortable the first and second and even tenth time but through breathing and patience and not giving up you will ease into it eventually. Give your back some preparations before going into full bow ;)
Brigid Prior hi brigid, just an additional comment: i practice traditional yoga, n we stress on warming up the body to prepare for poses like backbend. What we usually do is 1) tiger pose & 2) cobra on repeat at least 50 times each so ur body is really warmed up. The key is the more u do it, the more flexible you will be during that practice. Bridge n camel will be a good addition before doing backbend. And do more leg stretch n cobra after that so it wont be too sore the next day. Have a go and tell me what u think 😁
Wow! That was intense! My osteopath said i should work on my back strength. I think this will really help. Thank you! Also those leggings are amazing ❤
I love this video! Thank you so much for posting it, very informative! Perfect warm up and just the right amount of time to dedicate practicing the backbends as a life style choice before work. I can do 15 min :)
Hi Kino!!! Greetings from the Republic of Moldova! I have lower back pain while doing any type of backbends. Do you have an advice for me?? Thanks a lot! ^_^
YOU'RE THE BEST. I've stop doing physical activities due to depression for a long period of time and now I want to go back to my 1st love which is yoga and your videos are helping me a lot to finally go back in track. God bless you and Namaste🙏💖🙌

I love backbends even though they're challenging I puts me in a good mood and I'm looking forward to see how I get better by doing this. namaste 😊😀

it is tough but i really enjoy doing this flow over and over again!
Thank you so much for sharing your love and wisdom.
Wow ! I thought it’s so hard but when I tried this I’m surprised with my flexibility my first time to tried yoga and I was fascinated ❤️

That was just so lovely! thank you! challenging, but I was able to get into it deeper than I thought.
Every alingmaint r very nice and clean I also try this in my yoga class
I really enjoyed this video, good clear instructions and encouraging through out. My problem was I can't do a wheel pose so that section of the video was too much for me. Any recommendations/advice/warm up poses for getting shoulders and head off the ground for wheel pose would be great!
That's alright. It comes with practice. You don't need to get that on the first try.
Again a great video, your tips are so precious , and you explain so clearly ! I looove to learn with you!Thank you !
thanks :)
I'd love if you could do a tutorial video on how to transition from tripod headstand into astavakrasana. I have a hard time fitting my leg under my arm, so if you could help me out, I'd be so thankful! You are the only teacher I have at this time since there is no shala in my area :-)

This is exactly what I was searching for ^^
Namaste!
thank you so much for this video. I have never subscribed so quickly to anyone
Muy buena practica
I’m probably more intermediate. I’m naturally more flexible than normal and I’ve been doing yoga for about a year. But thanks to this video I did my first full backbend I’m sweating like crazy but I feel amazing
Hi Kino, Thnx for you video. Backbend is so difficult for me and I need more video from you. I just wonder your personel advice bout yoga wheel can be more usefull to improvement?
Thank you for your answer :)))
it works for me am glad to learn yoga
I finally found the one thing my body doesn't totally reject in yoga! lol thank you for the video.
Awesome! Keep practicing :)
Guys this WAS a beginner video because you have to practice much more before this. She never said to force yourself to do something which makes it as a beginner one. Advanced yoga is much much much more harder than this.
getting back into flexibility. this was difficult but was great. how often should we do this?
Thank you so much Kino, I loved it 🙏🏽
My Backbends improved a little bit when i did some scorpion stretches stretching the front thighs using a chair to prepare
weird atmosphere in this video and difficult for beginners but I still enjoyed the practice, thank you ✨
Try my new 30 days of yoga for complete beginners series 🙏😊
just exactly what i needed. Mahalo!
Great Great sequence kindly make video on facial yoga
I managed this too. I am happy :-) Kino am I able to email you at all to ask you a few questions? It's a tad personal about my struggle with anxiety and I'd like to ask you a question or 2 about my practice. Thank you for your daily periscope videos, they are a real comfort.
Dear Kino,
how can I open my shoulders for backbends, I feel that I am mainly restricted by tight shoulders that won't let my arms reach back far enough, whilst my lower back could easily bend further... Do you have any tricks for strong shoulder openers?
I love the elbow backbend🙏💖
Great to hear :)
This was awesome
Thank you Kino from an Indian guy!
