Sounds like the canoe lady, and I use that term loosely, obviously thinks she owns the river. As a fellow boater, I thought as long as nobody was coming at you from the opposite direction etc, you could use the centre of the river/canal. And was also surprised at her overtaking you on the right side to, thought this should be on the left. Maybe I'm wrong, but even so there's no need for the water rage! Such a rude and unimportant person
And I’m sure she sticks to the speed limit of 4mph on the Oxford … I have stopped mooring up near Cropredy spring/summer because of the canoeists from the local club speeding by constantly ..
There buried medieval villages were almost all ravaged by the Black Death. They are called ' Deserted Medieval Villages' & are sometimes marked on a map as ' DMV'.
Response to angry kayaker- "Well, aren't you just lovely. You have a good day now." That just sends their blood pressure even higher ; ) and ruins their day even more.
Great vlog as usual, great idea with the trees to made a hedgerow. Looks like HS2 is upsetting a lot of people. So, are kayakers the canal equivalent of bike riders on the roads?😅
A wok might work better than a frying pan for the first part of the cooking process just because it holds more and you can turn things over without it possibly falling out. I use a wok for a lot of different things it wasn’t meant to cook. Even stew LOL!
Shame about the shouty and mis-informed paddlers. As you know, the advice is to pass oncoming traffic on the right. Otherwise, stay in the middle where the water is deepest. Its so easy to go aground on parts of the Oxford. I got well stuck last year. A hire boater helped me out! Loving the vlogs as usual. Best wishes to both.
We were getting grounded all along this stretch so had no intention of doing so again just because they couldn't wait 2 minutes to get to a wider stretch of canal.

You should invest in a tennis ball machine for the front of the boat so when the next nasty kayaker goes past, you can fire a few shots across their bow.
Hi Fran and Rich, I have not been on for a while but in the world of bubbles and governments etc, is a knee replacement that took its time on healing I have or am coming through a gain. the new boat looks nice on the cut but for some reason liked your old one. I'm a huge fan of Mr D (first saw Shaun using it and asked for one for my 70th birthday last year. ) Use it all the time and wish I'd had one in my working days! Never fails

Thank you so much for your lovely comment Sue. We are glad to have given you more that a few hours of entertainment. Well done on watching them all. and sorry for the tears xx
Although you looked to be just right of center of the canal you were certainly well to the right of the navigable channel (it is usually shallower on the non-towpath side). Just because her craft only draws a few inches does not give her the right to expect you to run aground for her convenience. Also shouldn't the more manouverable craft give way to the less manouverable (rules of the river/canal/sea? She then caps it off with passing on the wrong side! When she was behind you did she ask to be let past? I suspect not. The likes of her give canoeing a bad name.
She shouted that she was passing on the right. As you say the channel was shallow and we were not going to scratch or damage our boat. The canal became wider in just a couple of hundred yards, but she didn't want to wait!
My thoughts exactly! Does she have no clue of draft at all? If she didn't want to paddle so close to all the scrubby bushes, she shouldn't have passed on that side - like she was a CAR not boat. Just because she could fit on the right because kayaks are narrow doesn't mean you were too far over. I kayak and no kayaker I know would have been so rude - we are always trying to stay out of the way of boats because we know we aren't always very visible and it's easy for us to hang out to the side and wait for a boat to pass. (I'm usually much much slower than boats I encounter in bays / rivers) If she wants to do speed trials - then she should be in the middle of the waterway or to the left to blast by all the slow narrowboats.
Hi Richard n fran. Love that flask. Gunna get one. Just wondering if Mark n Deborah are OK, not Don a video for a while. Love to u 4 having food n drinks 🍸 together at the side of the canal. You can tell that real friendship. Look after each other take care. Hugs 🫂 🤗 from John n bev xx

Hi Fran really impressed with the cooker can’t seem to find the same one do you have the make. Were two on a boat like you and cooking on the Moro’s can be dodgy whilst locking. Cheers NB Fiddlesticks ✋
Hi Fran and Rich, those canoeists didn’t read the ‘Keep Calm’ sign. Shame I can’t eat garlic or curry, it looked very nice. Thank you for another interesting video.
If the kayaker was such in a hurry to pass you why didn't they just go to shore, pick up the kayak run ahead and get back in the water..... I like you balanced videos, scenery, history, local attractions and great recipes. I was quite interested in your thermal cooker and thanks for posting the link. I am not sure if Mr. D's cookware still has an active website as the your link or other searches did not take me to their site. No worries though, found many other brands of this type of appliance. Great idea for a narrowboat and even my camper van. I have a generator built into my Roadtrek and could run it for 20 to 30 minutes to power my electric pressure cooker, but this a far more environmentally friendly, cost efficient and quiet way to prepare a nice hot meal for the end of the day. As always fair locks.....
I love the drone shots as they often show signs of ancient human activity, particularly if you know what to look for. Quite easy to overlook if you don't. Old trackways and lanes. Some of the existing field boundaries are still "loyal" to the ancient pattern. I liked those four trees in a small square formation (5:33). They speak of intentional planting and stand out like a sore thumb! Now that was obviously a site of something rather more important than a barn and possibly a later feature. Small Parish Church or chapel? Some lines in the crop seem to indicate old boundary walls that surround these trees. Great to conjecture just what the surface marks might actually be!
Quite agree with you and we also look at these lines and marks often. I believe there was something mentioned in our map books about those four trees, but memory fails me now!
Dear Fran , your veg curry inspired me no end watching your vlog this morning ! We live in northern NSW and we are enduring deluges of rain and our rivers are rising . With nothing much to do I attempted to make your veg curry and cooked it for 6 hours in our slow cooker . Obviously substituting ingredients we didn’t have . Basics were onion , garlic , sweet potato , carrots, curry powder, tinned chilli tomatoes , chick peas, green beans cauliflower, coconut cream and a little chicken stock powder . Just finished a huge bowl of this deliciousness and enough for another meal for the two of us ! Thanks Fran for showing us the simple but flavoursome dish !
Fran, I made your curry dish for my daughter and son in law for dinner tonight. It was a hit. I do not have a thermal cooler (I don’t know if they exist in Canada). I made it up and cooked it for 5 hours in a 225 degrees F. oven. It made a lot so they took the leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner, I’m sure it will taste even better tomorrow.
Some early signs of spring in your video. Your curry looked delicious Fran, I’m going to make it as I’ve got silver beet growing in my garden. Your facial hair looks ok Rich, very handsome. Lovely to see you both enjoying life.
Thanks for the recipe Fran. Made it yesterday for dinner. I usually get my curry in a jar from the supermarket. When you were making yours I thought ‘I can do that’ so I did. It was delicious. Thanks.
The rules of boating the deeper drafted boat stays in the channel until the steerer is ready to allow a boat pass. When they built canal they said it would ruining the country side.
That was an interesting vlog! Shame about the railway being constructed on such beautiful countryside. I was catching up with the Silver Fox vlogs yesterday and noticed they used a thermal cooker too! Great idea. I love your kitchen area in the boat. Thanks Rich and Fran! Take care.
Did you knit the top you were wearing while making that delicious curry? Is it incredibly rude of me to ask what the name of the pattern is if you did? It's so lovely! (and apologies if it's crochet...it does look like garter stitch though, and st st for the collar? Lovely job!)
Wonderful vlog as always! Really enjoyed the music Rich and Fran that recipe looked amazing. I was admiring your spice shelves again. They really are perfect.
Thank you both I’m new to your you tube channel but I really appreciate you sharing your travels , I’m poorly with ME and have always loved narrow boats . I travel vicariously through your travels xxx
1st. No way is Rich backing up the boat. Then we get the bow thruster confession. 2nd, I somehow have missed the cockpit cover. Don't remember seeing it before. Loved this video, such variety.
Me and Mr Lastic are 2 years into our five year plan to start living on the cut, we already have our "Mr D's" and I'm off to make this curry today! Take care you two x
great vlog just watched you guys chatting with the boys live my 4 favorite vloggers all at once lol I love how you said flat bread receipt and a bacon one comes up good on ya Rich
You make a curry pretty much the same way I do. SO delicious! So easy - and so flexible. I used to buy pastes and ready made curry sauces, but it's so much easier to do it with the actual spices so that's what I do now too. Your spice pantry is a lot like mine (but better organized!). You're cruising a part of the canal I know well - and that always so much fun to see. I love seeing new places, but there's something about the familiar that just feels good especially since we haven't been able to be back.
Excellent film, brought back some happy memories. You're on that part of the Oxford that follows the contours, travel for miles and see yourselves coming back as the Canal twists and turns. Lovely part of the country, best regards, Phil H
Lovely to watch up to date video too, I appreciate it is not always possible as it must take a lot of time and effort to edit and publish and I do appreciate what is posted on vlogs that I follow.
Hi Rich and Fran I could plainly see the lines of the medieval village ,reminds me of "Time Team " which I loved and still revisit. In my youth roaming Dartmoor I'd sit in a hut circle ,just a few stones in the heather and Gorse and try and imaging all the history those stones had seen. OH Fran a wonderful Curry and in a slow cooker ,I love them for making Chowders Stews and Soup We have an Indian family near us and they make Indian dishes for us quite frequently, they mill all their own spices and now that they have sort of measured our hotness level the curried dishes are superb except they insist its not really hot enough .As my wife's taste is a little milder than mine they gave me a little container of "extra heat" and boy oh boy that stuff is lethal you could easily cause a forest fire or power a jet .Lovely vlog take care ,keep warm see you soon Cheers from Canada.
You sound like a man after my own heart. I would do exactly the same in a stone circle and we did walking across that field. It sounds like you have wonderful neighbours.
The grumpy kayaker was a bit strange…….. I love canoeing but I’d never do something like that. a friend of mine from the Netherlands told me of the storms last week with photos of the damage. She said it was worse in the UK. Hope you found safe harbor. Still snowing here. I’ve heard that even the skiers are grumping about it and they are always complaining about not enough snow.
We have been safe in the storms thank you. We have seen this same lady a few times and each time she looks like she is sucking lemons. Not a happy person.
Your curry looked amazing. I’m going to research the video and copy down the recipe as you prepare it. Thanks for the great ideas. Also, loved the thermal cooker and that you called it a hay box.. brought back great memories from my girl Guiding years. Stay safe.

Fab as usual, I would have used a few choice pirate words on that woman in the kayak though 😂🏴☠️
We did have words, but we sort of remained polite. It was funny really, she was so angry!!
A wok might work better than a frying pan for the first part of the cooking process just because it holds more and you can turn things over without it possibly falling out. I use a wok for a lot of different things it wasn’t meant to cook. Even stew LOL!

To keep that recipe really healthy, leave out the coconut milk. Everything else was very natural and healthy. Especially the green, leafy vegetables.

Thanks Fran for the smile and wave I got this sunny but cold morning as we passed on the CRT tug !

Great video as always. Will be making that curry this week in the slow cooker.
As for the canoe lady, what a wrong un. There is always one 😂
I don’t know why you’d get negative comments on facial hair. You look just fine either way.
Mouthwatering. Would love to see more cooking videos, esp with nettles and wild foraged freebies.
We will soon be doing more
Thanks for the recipe Fran. Made it yesterday for dinner. I usually get my curry in a jar from the supermarket. When you were making yours I thought ‘I can do that’ so I did. It was delicious. Thanks.
That's great news. cheaper and probably better for you.
The rules of boating the deeper drafted boat stays in the channel until the steerer is ready to allow a boat pass. When they built canal they said it would ruining the country side.
Lovely all the way through. Cheers stay safe. Oh and the facial hair looks nice.
I enjoyed the video so much. Thank you.
So glad!
That was an interesting vlog! Shame about the railway being constructed on such beautiful countryside. I was catching up with the Silver Fox vlogs yesterday and noticed they used a thermal cooker too! Great idea. I love your kitchen area in the boat. Thanks Rich and Fran! Take care.
Glad you enjoyed it
Did you knit the top you were wearing while making that delicious curry? Is it incredibly rude of me to ask what the name of the pattern is if you did? It's so lovely! (and apologies if it's crochet...it does look like garter stitch though, and st st for the collar? Lovely job!)
Thank you so much but I'm afraid I didn't make it, it was a charity shop bargain
@@FloatingOurBoat Ooo, lucky find! Thank you for your reply!
Wonderful vlog as always! Really enjoyed the music Rich and Fran that recipe looked amazing. I was admiring your spice shelves again. They really are perfect.
Thank you. It is gradually all coming together.
Hard not to feel sad about the countryside being carved up again by our desire to travel ever faster.
Billionaires and controlled governments do this to keep themselves wealthy.
Thank you both I’m new to your you tube channel but I really appreciate you sharing your travels , I’m poorly with ME and have always loved narrow boats . I travel vicariously through your travels xxx
Thank you Deb, so glad you get enjoyment from our videos.
Was she just screaming at the boater lol LORDT have mercy don’t they know the rules of the canal SMH
1st. No way is Rich backing up the boat. Then we get the bow thruster confession. 2nd, I somehow have missed the cockpit cover. Don't remember seeing it before. Loved this video, such variety.
We had the pram cover added recently. It is a wonderful addition and gives us an extra room even though we don't like the look of them.
Thank you again for a lovely visit . Very much enjoy it, as always. Loads of love and best wishes from an expat in Canada.
It looked like a yummy curry! I love a cold curry sandwich the day after....
Lovely
The problem with the slow cooker is the wait. I'd smell it and want it now. 😊 The veggie curry looks lovely and I'm sure it's worth the wait.
That is true, but it is worth waiting for
Me and Mr Lastic are 2 years into our five year plan to start living on the cut, we already have our "Mr D's" and I'm off to make this curry today! Take care you two x
Good luck with the curry. I hope you enjoy it
"Topless Tunnel" Sounds like a naturist narrowboat title 😂
😅😅
I was wondering what year the tunnel went topless. Does anyone know when it was?
Love the curry and Vlog. Admire all the vlogs, when we move aboard it is something we will not be doing 😀 learnt a lot from you 👏👏👍
Just enjoy it, Vlogging can be hard work sometimes
great vlog just watched you guys chatting with the boys live my 4 favorite vloggers all at once lol I love how you said flat bread receipt and a bacon one comes up good on ya Rich
Ha Ha, the flat bread recipe is in the making bacon vlog as we made both recipes together!!
I could almost smell that curry. Yummy, great idea with the thermal pot. I'm going to look for one. Lovely scenery. ❤
This is the cooker we have

Loved the tree -hedge fact I'd never have known if I'd have cruised past it
Aah there you are. You can keep your eyes open now.
Beautiful videography and music. Great channel.
Thank you
You make a curry pretty much the same way I do.
Curry pastes are great but you get so many more meals and so much more flexibility from spices. better for the store cupboard and the purse!!
Thanks for a lovely vlog and the curry looked fantastic, could've done with smell'o'vision, lol. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Excellent film, brought back some happy memories. You're on that part of the Oxford that follows the contours, travel for miles and see yourselves coming back as the Canal twists and turns. Lovely part of the country, best regards, Phil H
So true. We did a complete horseshoe yesterday and almost ended up where we began !
Lovely to watch up to date video too, I appreciate it is not always possible as it must take a lot of time and effort to edit and publish and I do appreciate what is posted on vlogs that I follow.
Thank you so much!
OH Fran a wonderful Curry and in a slow cooker ,I love them for making Chowders Stews and Soup We have an Indian family near us and they make Indian dishes for us quite frequently, they mill all their own spices and now that they have sort of measured our hotness level the curried dishes are superb except they insist its not really hot enough .As my wife's taste is a little milder than mine they gave me a little container of "extra heat" and boy oh boy that stuff is lethal you could easily cause a forest fire or power a jet
.Lovely vlog take care ,keep warm see you soon Cheers from Canada.
Such a lovely lifestyle you both have. 😀
Thank you for the curry demonstration, I am going to make that for tea! 💐💐
Hope you like it!
@@FloatingOurBoat I am sure I will but I havent told my husband yet, wont do that till I put it in front of him! 😜😜 💐💐
I look of your curry my son and me like curry i hope you are doing ok
We are good thank you. Hope to try the curry and like it
Curry looks great , 👍 Bob on 🍷
Your curry looked amazing. I’m going to research the video and copy down the recipe as you prepare it. Thanks for the great ideas. Also, loved the thermal cooker and that you called it a hay box.. brought back great memories from my girl Guiding years. Stay safe.
Ha Ha, you know me, just an old fashioned girl and hay box sounds better. The recipe is on our website www.floatingourboat.com
Lovely to see you again really enjoyed the vlog. Take care looking forward to the next one.
Wow curry looked great , could you please tell me the name of the pot you cooked it in , ❤️
