OMG..! So pleased that Fran is ok... It would really have put the wind up me..! Reminds me of the time that I got stuck in Somerton Deep lock... I drove in ok, went down ok, but the bottom gate wouldn't fully open because of silt building up behind it and there wasn't enough width to drive the boat out. Still get nightmares about that..which was 18 months ago and we'd only owned a boat for a few weeks .🍷🍷

Well done. We had the same sort of problems on the BCN north of Birmingham and Dudley. Not a staircase problem, but the pounds between 3 locks were totally empty! Also when doing Grindley Brook staircase, we were at the bottom waiting for a boat to come down and they tried to fill the bottom lock when it was already full - see our boat bob around and end up on the other side of the cut!

In early May we began watching your journey as result of Kevin from Aslan’s recommendation. Of course we had to start at the very beginning and have now worked our way up to this video as of last night. We are with you in February 2020, listening to your travel plans and thinking, “We need to warn them of what is coming!” We will stay tuned to see how you deal with the pandemic: Do you stay on the boat? Do you go back to the cottage? Will everyone be ok? We are enjoying your series and poor Rich’s fussing over rain (what we wouldn’t give for rain in Texas!) and your comments on how hot it was for a couple of days the preceding summer, while we are melting in multiple 100 degree F days. You make us laugh and show us beautiful scenery and we are blessed in getting to know you from afar.

That could have been a very different outcome.! Thank goodness for you guys, and your boat that it wasn't. The possibility of your stern gear , i.e skeg, prop being seriously damaged by something under the water in the lock chamber is very real.
By the way that particular lock (middle lock) was exactly the same when we went through it on the way to Elmsmere port in 1981.

    Hello Guys
Have just watched and subscribed to your channel. In my humble opinion it was not your fault that you had the problem with the locks in Chester. There should have been some sort of warning before the locks by the crt. I am currently watching you in stereo on tv and ipad. You look even better!😁😁😁😁 Really excellent videos. We last went to Beeston Castle 24 years ago and my everlasting memory was the toilet paper which had the words "property of Beeston castle printed on it." Did they want it back ?

Thank you Jane. We prefer to watch on a small screen without our glasses on, we look so much younger then! So funny about the Beeston toilet paper, I guess that may be coming back in these strange times of Covid stockpiling!

That must have been very scary. I grounded in the small staircase lock near Saltaire and when Ivan let water in to refill slightly so I could move forward it was very frightening, so going up and down would take a lot of concentration and be stressful. You did well to stay calm and keep the boat under control. Chester is beautiful, we loved it when we went, by train! The weaving looked lovely on the loom and round your neck, I had to force myself to look away! Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.

I'll bet that was Field Locks. It's a three chambered UNMANNED staircase. We nearly came to grief there in October and have since heard many stories about people having issues there.

      @FloatingOurBoat  5 лет назад +1

Hi Sylvia. I don't think we felt as calm as we looked. I don't want to be doing that ever again. Still we are all fine and the boat is floating so smiles all round. We may be doing a little weaving video soon, so I'll warn you to make yourself busy elsewhere. I don't want an angry husband knocking on the boat 😂😂

What a classic story, as though from times of old... a pretty little blonde damsel in distress, stuck, as it were, with her boat NOT afloat in the bottom of a dungeon-like structure and completely helpless. Along comes her knight in a knit cap who, with the help of a couple of burly gents, manages to unleash the flow of stubborn water into her cage - and, yes, were able to Float Her Boat once again! Then the cheers of 8,650 loyal subscribers rang through the Staircase Locks as she emerged triumphant, quite prepared to continue onward - regardless of the trials and tribulations of jolly old England's ancient canal system. Hoorah! 😁👍

6.31 the little small bridge is the bridge they used to walk condemned prisoners to last rites before execution. Thought some may find that interesting. Great video 🍻

Braver than me Fran. When we went to Chester, I panicked when I saw how deep the locks were and my lovely, capable 12 year old nephew took my very new boat through! We moored first a couple of days in the basin at the bottom. A historic working boat was moored next to us, the wind blew their very old Buckby can in the canal. My boys spent the whole day with magnets and eventually found the can! They were well rewarded with sweets from the grateful owners. Happy days!

Sounds as if you have a lovely family. We also stayed in the basin below the locks. We needed a rest by then x

Sad about the drone, hope it’s a quick fix.
Thanks also for the education, so many things you show gives a heads up to me.

Another lovely Vlog! Your new intro is beautiful! Glad you emerged from the nerve wracking lock unscathed! I love it when we get a glimpse of your weaving, Fran! I'd love to see more. Maybe devote a good part of a vlog on your process and inspiration. Rich, hope you are able to get the drone running again soon. I love those atmospheric shots.
All the best, from beautiful Port Angeles, Washington

Last year while sitting on my boats roof watching a phamtom drome, worth 1000s swooping around the lock and over the river... Oh the river. I live on the selby canal which meets the tidal ouse river, this drone suddenly just dropped into the river, most likely never seen again, you were so lucky.
    And liked and subbed 😁
