The flutes are not only real, they were custom made for this soundtrack. They're the same flutes that the 2 main characters play so they exist in and outside the game. If a character is playing a flute in the game then someone was actually playing that flute.
Timestamps as per usual for Xenoblade stuff: ✓ for battle themes. ☊ for cutscene/etc. themes. Notes after. 0:02 Immediate Threat ✓ ACE (Tomori "TOMO" Kudo and Hiroyo "CHiCO" Yamanaka.) Primarily by TOMO. Misspelled at one point by Immediate Threst due to early translations 5:11 Sailing The Seas ☊ ACE (again.) Also known as the Boundary theme. 9:58 A Life Sent On ☊ Yasunori Mitsuda. First theme composed for XC3. The developer made these instruments for this song (yes it's real playing.) It's known as the Off-Seer theme and combines two themes heard in game. 11:59 Chain Attack ✓ Kenji Hiramatsu....YIPPEE 17:37 You Will Know Our Names - Finale ✓ Kenji Hiramatsu. Every Xenoblade needs a YWKON theme for their 21 foot tall cow and here's this glorious one.
Sailing the seas is perfect because when it first plays they time it so that the strings swell right when you exit a cove to go into the open sea. It made me love sailing in XC3.
The flutes are indeed played by a real person. They are traditional Japanese Shinobue bamboo flutes, which the OST's composer, Mr. Yasunori Mitsuda, had especially made for this soundtrack, lending them a unique sound. In the game there are two characters who play the flute, one being a 3-hon choshi (key of G) and the other an 8-hon choshi (key of A minor) shinobue, making them diagetic. The songs, including the duet in "A Life Sent On" were performed by Akio Noguchi.
Yes those flutes are real, but it’s two different flutes that two different characters (Noah and Mio) own they play it to send off souls of people who have died
If there is ever a part 3 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 reactions (which there should be), Kaleidescopoc Core NEEDS to be there. Other songs I think you'd like are Noah and N, Showdown with Z, and New Battle!!! from Future Redeemed. Love your reactions! They make me enjoy my favorite game even more!
Minor correction, it's "New Battle!!!", not "New Battle!!". Three exclamation marks, because it's Xenoblade _3._ Xenoblade 2 used 2 exclamation marks for its main regular battle theme "Battle!!".
5:11 Fun fact, there is a second version of this song called "The Great Sea Stirs", that plays after a certain point in the game. Now idk how they managed to turn the most beautiful, peaceful track into one of the most epic things I've ever heard in a boat, but they did it and it is impressive.
They managed to portray such a strong feeling of uncertainty and wonder in the first one just to replace it with determination and conviction. The two are so perfect together
The Trilogy is complete. But its not over yet we still have one game left. Lets get it up there. Also the song "A life sent one" in game is actually played by the characters with the flutes. Just a neat little detail.
To give an explanation for the Chain Attack theme: Chain Attacks basically are the ultimate climax of a battle in Xenoblade - a point where you get to blast the enemy with everything, while they don't get a single turn. Now, imagine that but add the fact that the enemy is spinning helplessly in the air, because it does more damage that way. There are SO many memes about this. The visuals and voicelines going along with this even makes it another 10 times better
What made me love the battle tracks even more is the fact it's developing as you advance in the fight. I can't describe the rush I felt when I first heard the guitar solo of YWKON- Finale near the end of a battle.
I feel like the only person alive who isn’t amped up by YWKON-F, something about the key signature and the flutes makes it seem a little sad, like this is the last time we know Rotbart’s gonna kick our ass and we don’t know what the future holds. But honestly? That’s kind of why it’s my favorite of the three unique monster tracks. Something about that added layer of emotion makes me love it so much
They didn't get a few real flutes and had someone play them. They _made_ two entire flutes custom _just for this game._ And the two flautists in the artwork? The two main characters, and aside from the non-flute instruments in A Life Sent On, the song is diagetic and actually played by those two protagonists. You wanted more? It wasn't enough? Let's see... there's Off-Seer - Noah and Off-Seer - Mio (which are basically just the two distinct flute sections of A Life Sent On separated into separate tracks), Noah and Mio - Our Melody (An abridged version of A Life Sent On without the non-flutes), Shining Aspiration - Inherited Melody, Homecoming, Feelings Risen to the Sky, Off-Seer - Miyabi, Off-Seer - Crys... did I miss any? (I tried to focus on variations of the main Off-Seer motif played by flutes. There are other flute tracks and other instances of the motif played by other instruments, but I felt it would be better to stick to a more restricted set.) This game really is just Flutes: The JRPG. The story of how two flautists fell in love, and toppled a shadow government along the way.
Yeah uh, this game may or may not be the best thing ever made. If by any chance there’s a part 3 I would put New Battle!!! and Cent-Omnia Region from Future Redeemed are absolute musts. Words that Never Reached You is also incredible and if somehow we can bypass the lyrics issue, A Step Away genuinely changed my entire existence as a human being and sounds absolutely gorgeous at the same time.
"Do you guys remember me?" Well seeing as I was just binging your reaction videos after finding your Xenoblade one only to find this was just uploaded as I was watching others, yes!
Basically all the music in Xenoblade is recorded live, and 3 primarily used the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and also a lot of the choral (and both lyrical songs) bits are done by an awesome Irish choir called Anúna, who they used for Xenoblade 2 as well
Part 3 now. Kaleidoscopic Core, Step Away, Where we Belong, Cent-Omnia region, new battle!!!, great sea stirs, Consul Z, maybe even consul M there are so many more bangers
about the flutes in a life sent on. I'm pretty sure someone played the song, as they custom made the two flutes Noah and Mio hold in the picture to make sure that they sound like they should.(please excuse my grammar)
Does anyone remember when NintendoMelody titled Immediate Threat as Immediate Threst? Also the thumbnail having FR Shulk in it made me think New Battle!!! would be here but no
First of all, congrats on getting married! Hope it'll be one full of happiness and joy I truly hope you'll revisit Xenoblade 1 and 2's OST one day bc there's still a lot of amazing music left to discover from them, and from 3 as well but I understand you just can't listen to 10 hours of music from each game lol. Just saying it'd be nice to see you experience more of it if you ever feel like it
Oh, I love that this part two was your welcome back after the wedding break. So many awesome themes that I hoped you would get to. And did! Especially A Life Sent On and the Chain Attack theme. Two amazing themes from a game full of them.
I love your reactions and really hope you do a reaction to Future Redeemed music. It's this game's DLC expansion and has some of the best tracks in the series, notably: Redeem the Future Cent-Omnia region (day) New Battle!!! Future Awaits (this one's lyrical, I can't remember if you've reacted to all the other lyrical songs in the numbered xenoblade games, but if not, perhaps do them as it's own video, bring tissues)
Hell yeah ! And listen we are not kidding when we say there is still SO MUCH MORE. So much more to hear !! I'm going to omit the Future Redeemed expansion here because it has its own set of bangers that you should make a separate video for. But my recommendations for next time : Eagus Wilderness ( Day or Night, you pick ! ), Fort O'Virbus (Night), Noah and N, Origin ( the one that's just called Origin ), Showdown with Z, and lastly to end on pure awesomeness, Ultimate Enemy. Be seeing you for more ! ( this is a plea, you HAVE to hear more XC3. )
I highly recommend you revisit all the Xenoblade games soundtracks and react to all the vocal tracks, XB1: Beyond the Sky XB2: Drifting Soul, One Last You, A Moment Of Eternity XB3 A Step Away, Where We Belong, Future Awaits They truly are amazing soundtracks! Your reactions are the best! Also the chain attack theme may sound impressive, but you start to get tired of it when you hear it like a million times in game 🤣
The latter parts of the You Will Know Our Names songs are so triumphant because if you've survived long enough to *get* to those points, you probably have a chance to actually win the fight
Yayy I love these videos! I recommend you listen to all of the Xenoblade vocal themes! They are all amazing- when 'Where We Belong' played in Xenoblade 3, I cried. And I've never cried at any other game or movie before or since. ♡
There are a lot of gentle songs in these games too, just from XC3 and thr DLC: Great Cotte Falls (day), Eagus Wilderness (day), Cent Omnia (night and day versions), and captocorn peak just to name a few.
Someday, we absolutely need a reaction to the Future Redeemed songs. They are just as high quality as the base game and I think you’ll really enjoy them!
The flutes on this game's soundtrack were custom made just to fit the ones in-game characters play, if you would go and get a 1 to 1 replica of the ones played by the characters, you would be able to play the songs as they are on the soundtrack. Also, you will know our names -finale is only played when the unique monster (the game has usually 1 enemy that is stronger than the rest of his species and has a lot more stats than the regular ones, being like an open field optional bossfight in most cases, and sometimes even forcing you to escape because they are too overleveled) has low hp, the instruments turn from the original melody into the one with flutes (a representative of the main party in a lot of cases) to represent that even if it was a tense fight (cause every part of the ost is strong like this), now your party has the lead and you just need to throw anything you have to win.
“Sailing the Seas” does have a “sequel” sort of version that plays later that’s way more bombastic with the orchestration and with more of those choir vocals you love. It’s called “The Great Sea Stirs”
The Xenoblade series has such a damn great soundtrack that you can put any random song on and it’ll be the best new thing you heard that week, I swear.
what a way to come back this is honestly why xenoblade 3 is my favourite from the series as there's so many great tracks from it especially you will know our names finale which is just a fun track in general with how it progresses along with many others. also to answer your question in regards to the flutes in a life sent on yes that track along with i think the rest of the ost were recorded with real flutes but what was also fun is that the flutes used are 2 custom made flutes modelled after the 2 characters flutes from the game, and i did see video posted on i think Nintendo's social media of a life sent on being performed by the person monolith got to perform them for the game. honestly monolith always seem to go all out for their games including their osts i do think most of if not all of 3s ost was live recorded though im not entirely sure so i could be wrong.
The proper way she should have listened to this is start listening to You Will Know Our Names - Finale - then half way into it cut to Chain Attack! and then back to You Will Know Our Names - Finale -
Lots of battle travks this time so i'm going fully into repping Field Themes. My recos: Eagus Wilderness day Maktha Wildwood Erythia Sea day Cent-Omnia region (this one is a banger) Syra Hovering Reefs Okay fine, one battle theme you cannot miss is: Formidable Foe
First of all, congratulations on the wedding Mrs. hope everything went A-OK and wish you and the Mr. A long happy life filled with love, mutual understanding and strength, remember to love each other a little more everyday, small gestures makes wonders on the long run. Second and last, I know I might be the 1000th comment saying the same but yes, those are real flutes and they were specially crafted for this game. You can check a live performance by the great Pedro Eustache during the TGA 2022 Medley althouhg he didn't played with Shinobue Flutes but still, he did an amazing performance.
If you search for "Ask the developer Xenoblade Chronicles 3", you'll find an interview where they talk with the developers about the development of the game, and they talk about the music. And there, you can both see the actual shinobue (japanese-style side-blown flutes) they used for, actually, a good chunk of the whole OST. And it's not one, but two. The two main leads carry them, and have this sort of action where they play it, and when they swap them, they change them so the sound cues are narratively consistent.
Welcome back! And God almighty have you chosen something so bombastic for your return. And for Life Sent On, I believe it's really made by humans, as the director made custom flutes (which have the designs of the two flutes of the main characters) so they sound exactly like they should. So the people who actually played the flutes did it with the flutes the main characters play (that's very meta)
most of the soundtrack of 3 was completely live (the credits are proof and also the sound quality) yes, even the chorus for moebius battle is live i believe. live as in people playing/singing in a recording studio
3:29 ah, that is because it's the track version where they mix all the versions of Immediate Threat. Many of them have alternate versions for 2nd half of the HP bar or for special parts of the battle, and this is no different. There's one where you have a "sad" version.
I seriously need an encore! Your reactions to xc3 soundtrack was so golden! I'm hoping you get to "Moebius M" and "Noah and N"!! Please do Future Redeemed as well 🤲
You still have Xenoblade chronicles 3 Future Redeemed DLC soundtrack to listen to. That had some absolute bangers. The final boss theme has to be one of the best final boss themes in gaming
While there is some synth in places in Xenoblade music, generally speaking it's all recorded live in studio with a full band or choir. Some of the music is even improvised.
So I dunno if it was touched on much (kinda was mentioned in passing elsewhere) but in the game proper, much of the music, especially the ones used for battle, was designed to change dynamically in-game. Some themes were designed to shift from battle to exploration, and some of these songs change depending on the stage of the battle or if the battle is ending, looping a section until things progress. And yeah, this is a fantastic soundtrack.
In addition to the flutes being played by real people, the game's credits confirm that the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed a lot of the songs. You played mostly heavy-rock pieces, but there's a lot of intense orchestral songs if you know where to look!
Chain Attack is a great song, but it suffers from its use case in that it interrupts EVERY OTHER BATTLE THEME after about a minute in combat. Eventually it becomes a total mood killer.
Is it really the chain attack music without hearing "YIPPEE!" "YOUR FATE WAS SEALED WHEN YOU ROSE AGAINST US" "I USED MY THINKING MUSCLES FOR THIS ONE" cutting in every 3 seconds?
I hope you do touhou music in the future. The entirety of the series help caused the creation of undertale and all of its music. As a plus the creator of the series is very lax with the copyright for his characters and music which allows for anyone to create derivative works of touhou from song remixes to selling your own games. For some song suggestions they are Gensokyo the Gods Loved, Broken Moon, Maiden's Capprico, Love Colored Master Spark, Flowering Night, Hartman's Youkai Girl, and U.N. Owen Was Her.
All the music in modern Xenoblade is recorded with live instruments! There are of course parts in many tracks that use synthetic elements, but all the "real" instruments are exactly that: real.
Found your channel right before you took a break to get married (congrats, by the way!) and I can't watch this one either because I haven't played XB3 yet, but just wanted to say that your reactions and thoughts on music are fun and very expressive! Looking forward to your posts of games I have played (or won't play because I can enjoy those reactions too :V)
Not sure if I mentioned this on your last one but the custom flutes are kind of the musical signature of Xenoblade 3 that differentiates it from the other two. Chain Attack is a bop but I despise whoever decided that players should have to spend more than half of their time in combat throughout the entire game hearing that track instead of whatever the actual track for the fight is, not even overriding it for the most important story battles. The more optimally you play the more of the fight is going to be spent in chain attack. I desperately want a mod that cuts it out so I can enjoy all the other combat tracks without making the game several times harder for myself.
XC3 has a really great sea shanty called battle on the seas. You would love it. Lovely video as always. Keep it on and also Congratz for the marriage :3
Please just play these games. Its a massive time investment, but its a helluva journey im sure we'd all stick with you for! These tracks are amazing by themselves, but in context? They hit so different!
Discovered your channel last week and did a marathon through a lot of videos. Great analysis and very good taste! You should take a look on Atelier series's soundtrack (you can start with the Ryza trilogy and, if you feel it, check the older sagas), it's a treasure trove! Best Regards!
Can't recommend this soundtrack enough. Still so many great tracks. Moebius Battle/M is an outstanding variation on Moebius Battle that is well worth a listen in itself The Great Sea Stirs is simply epic A Formidable Enemy may be the best combat music in the whole game Kaleidoscopic Core is a great track for people who enjoyed Xenoblade 2 Words That Never Reached You is a wonderful cutscene + battle track for the most emotional part of the story Erythia Sea is relaxed and calming The False Queens is majestic and tense From the DLC story: New Battle!!! is an outstanding battle theme Redeem the Future, along with Redeem the Future - Finale, is metal as all get out At Our Life's End is also my favorite of the Xenoblade title screens
they had the custom flutes done IRL :) You will have to do a part 3, you are missing so many hahahaha I think you would like "against council M" a lot.. the flutes will drive you nuts
would you believe me if i said not ONE of the songs you've listened to from this game are in my top 10 songs? thats how good the soundtrack is. (well maybe moebius battle would be but im not sure)
0:00 - Immediate Threat
5:11 - Sailing the Seas
9:58 - A Life Sent On
11:53 - Chain Attack
17:35 - You Will Know Our Names - Finale
Thanks
Thank you 🙏🏻
Fun fact, they custom made the in-game flutes the characters use to make the music, it's incredible
And they were custom designed specifically for the game as well
And I'm pretty sure one of them was given to the flutist to use for the game awards GOTY orchestra
I came here to say this.
XBC Music is perfection. It should have won GotY Soundtrack.
@@geraldthegoose1685this is not true
Yeah they were custom built and tuned flutes made specifically for the game that was used for all recordings of the flute in the game.
The flutes are not only real, they were custom made for this soundtrack. They're the same flutes that the 2 main characters play so they exist in and outside the game. If a character is playing a flute in the game then someone was actually playing that flute.

I though it was for the 10 ton gorilla with fancy name who appear from nowhere and start playing electric guitar.
Reference to her prior XC3 video@@angeldude101
This is the last time we’ll be meeting the 21 foot tall cow in a context like this and it feels a little somber as a result lol
Sailing the seas is perfect because when it first plays they time it so that the strings swell right when you exit a cove to go into the open sea. It made me love sailing in XC3.
Its one of the best games ever!
Chain Attack is the "Why do I hear boss music?" theme except it's the boss asking it.
For me the best part of the song is the best at the start. It sounds like a train running and gives me such hype
Chain Attack is the "Why can't I hear the boss music" theme
(I love this theme but I understand this complaint in the community entirely)

I’m begging for it too omg 😭
Chain attack still gives me the chills, the build up, etc, my fave theme from the whole xenoblade series

Not only is A Life Sent On a live piece, the flutes used in it were invented exclusively for this game.
The flutes are thematic to the game, especially "Weight of life".❤️ They're part of two separate pieces meld to one.
The proper way she should have listened to this is start listening to You Will Know Our Names - Finale - then half way into it cut to Chain Attack! and then back to You Will Know Our Names - Finale -
Lots of battle travks this time so i'm going fully into repping Field Themes. My recos:
Eagus Wilderness day
Maktha Wildwood
Erythia Sea day
Cent-Omnia region (this one is a banger)
Syra Hovering Reefs
Okay fine, one battle theme you cannot miss is:
Formidable Foe
I literally can’t listen to A life sent on without crying. So beautiful
Need a whole video for cutscene music in this game. Thats where some of the most melodic and gorgeous music in the game is.
She needs to listen to kaleidoscopic core, and a step away.
0:55 i know this was accindentally, but she nailed that octave
Future redeemed OST reaction maybe⁉️⁉️⁉️
Also I wanna add, your enthusiastic and genuine reactions to all this music is kind of a joy to see.
This is the first game in the series where the music are dynamic, they build as the ennemies' health get lower
In addition to the flutes being played by real people, the game's credits confirm that the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed a lot of the songs. You played mostly heavy-rock pieces, but there's a lot of intense orchestral songs if you know where to look!
Keeping vigil for part 3, there's still so many amazing pieces from this game
Chain Attack is a great song, but it suffers from its use case in that it interrupts EVERY OTHER BATTLE THEME after about a minute in combat. Eventually it becomes a total mood killer.
21:50 "You might wanna surrender, before we GRIND YOU INTO DUST!"
If you know.. you know! xD
Still hoping for a part3/future redeemed
Not only is this real flutes they're playing, they're custom-made flutes built to look like the two lead characters' in-game flutes.
Is it really the chain attack music without hearing "YIPPEE!" "YOUR FATE WAS SEALED WHEN YOU ROSE AGAINST US" "I USED MY THINKING MUSCLES FOR THIS ONE" cutting in every 3 seconds?
It's hard for me to hear A Life Sent On without being reminded of the ending of Monica's Hero Quest. 😢
I hope you do touhou music in the future. The entirety of the series help caused the creation of undertale and all of its music. As a plus the creator of the series is very lax with the copyright for his characters and music which allows for anyone to create derivative works of touhou from song remixes to selling your own games.
For some song suggestions they are
Gensokyo the Gods Loved,
Broken Moon,
Maiden's Capprico,
Love Colored Master Spark,
Flowering Night,
Hartman's Youkai Girl,
and U.N. Owen Was Her.
All the music in modern Xenoblade is recorded with live instruments! There are of course parts in many tracks that use synthetic elements, but all the "real" instruments are exactly that: real.
Not sure if youve listened to it yet but A Tragic Decision from 1 and Fog Rift in 3FC is my favorite tracks from the whole series
Halloween might be over, but a game with good, hauntingly beautiful songs is American McGee's Alice Madness Returns for reactions
Listen to Rae-Bel Tableland (Night) if you enjoy the piano. You will not regret it.
You need to listen to "Homecoming", if you enjoy flutes, that melody is great
Please just play these games. Its a massive time investment, but its a helluva journey im sure we'd all stick with you for! These tracks are amazing by themselves, but in context? They hit so different!
You will know our names - Finale
Can you guess where this tune plays?
Discovered your channel last week and did a marathon through a lot of videos. Great analysis and very good taste!
You should take a look on Atelier series's soundtrack (you can start with the Ryza trilogy and, if you feel it, check the older sagas), it's a treasure trove!
Best Regards!
*UPON THIS SWORD, I PLEDGE MY STRENGTH!!!!!!!!*
Can't recommend this soundtrack enough. Still so many great tracks.
Moebius Battle/M is an outstanding variation on Moebius Battle that is well worth a listen in itself
The Great Sea Stirs is simply epic
A Formidable Enemy may be the best combat music in the whole game
Kaleidoscopic Core is a great track for people who enjoyed Xenoblade 2
Words That Never Reached You is a wonderful cutscene + battle track for the most emotional part of the story
Erythia Sea is relaxed and calming
The False Queens is majestic and tense
From the DLC story:
New Battle!!! is an outstanding battle theme
Redeem the Future, along with Redeem the Future - Finale, is metal as all get out
At Our Life's End is also my favorite of the Xenoblade title screens
they had the custom flutes done IRL :)
You will have to do a part 3, you are missing so many hahahaha
I think you would like "against council M" a lot.. the flutes will drive you nuts
12:25
YIPPEEEE
She needs to play this game ASAP
this game? pretty sure you mean all three
@@julien827 ☝️ I agree with this
Kaleidoscopic core and Reedem The Future should be next
would you believe me if i said not ONE of the songs you've listened to from this game are in my top 10 songs? thats how good the soundtrack is. (well maybe moebius battle would be but im not sure)
Congrats on marriage with the lucky one!
i wish you would have listened to "N and Noah" as well
Chain attack ft Persona 5
Congratulations to you on your marriage!
2nd Part of Xenoblade Chronicles 2?
