    Blue Skies and a Battle plays during a mock battle when all three groups of characters are students at the same academy.
    When Between Heaven and Earth plays, several years have passed and the groups are meeting again as enemies in a war between three kingdoms. This is why the latter feels so similar but more powerful and with a hint of melancholy

    I never played FE:TH, but I really like the soundtrack. In particular, I love “Rain” and “Thunder” concept.
    For those that don’t know, Fire Emblem is a tactical RPG, and you command units on a top-down view of the map. There are two different versions of each battle theme: the “Rain” version plays while viewing the battlefield, and the “Thunder” variant of the track plays when the player selects for a unit to attack, and the camera pans down to said unit for the attack animation. The Thunder variant is usually more a more intense and driving version of the same track, though with one notable exception (but I won’t spoil why now - go look up A Funeral of Flowers yourself).

    I feel like everyone should listen to “God Shattering Star” three times. The first, your attention focuses completely on the vocals - it’s inevitable. They’re so commanding. The second, I recommend focusing solely to the orchestra and all of the absolutely fucking insane stuff going on there WHILE the vocals are happening - because oh my god, the talent that those runs take.

  • @Volokyn

    Some facts about God Shattering Star, the language used for the song is actually a made up language that is supposed to be spoken by the characters of the game: Fodlian (I think it's spelled like that). Also Joe Zieja, one of the main VA for the game, made two covers of this ost alongside FamilyJules: One "normal" and an English one. On both covers, Joe is the one singing and FamilyJules brings the instrumentals.

    The reason you recognized Fodlan Winds could also be because of the main theme. The motif of the main theme is also used quite a bit throughout the game. It's also present in Between Heaven and Earth as well as Shackled Wolves(but much less). The VA of one of the main characters also did a cover of God Shattering Star on their RUclips 👀

  • @iamtheshim

    Three Houses really is a marvel of a game. I'm glad you got to experience some of it. Funnily enough you missed out on all my favorites besides the final one, so hope to see this one get a Part 2 at some point with bangers like Roar of Dominion, Chasing Daybreak, Tearing Through Heaven, and As Fierce As Fire.
    The whole series just has fantastic music overall. I'd especially like to see a video dedicated to Shadows of Valentia, that game's music is utterly amazing.
    One fun thing - I'm glad you listened to the Rain version of God-Shattering Star. For those not in the know, the game basically has two versions of the battle themes, Rain for when you're looking at the overall battlefield and Thunder for when units actually clash in combat. The Thunder themes tend to be a bit more aggressive and bombastic. God-Shattering Star is funny because the vast majority of reactions to it that I've seen are specifically to a video on RUclips that's a dual mix of the Rain and Thunder, which curiously enough really loses the impact since the Thunder version doesn't have the incredible vocals. Happy that you got to experience what I think is the best version!

    For the (Rain) bits at the end of some song titles, the game does this cool thing by having 2 different versions of the battle themes. Rain is for when you're looking down at the map and moving your characters around, while Thunder usually has some extra instrumentation and is used for when you're actually watching your units fight.
    They've been doing this for a few games as well! Fates used Calm/Roar to separate each version, while Awakening had (no extra title)/Ablaze versions.

    If there’s any other game you should check out, it should be Kid Icarus: Uprising. Many of the tracks in the game are comparable to that of a film score, since they NEVER loop when listening to them. They’re built around the places they play in-game, and react to events occurring in the stage itself. If you do cover this games here are some suggestions:
    - The Return of Palutena
    - The Reaper’s Line of Sight
    - Viridi, Goddess of Nature (A personal favorite of mine)
    - Lightning Battle (this one ESPECIALLY)
    - Hades’ Infernal Theme
    - Destroyed Skyworld

    Someone may have already commented this, but the Rain and Thunder versions are for when you are out of combat and in combat. When you engage an enemy in this turnbase strategy game the camera goes from a top view of the battlefield to a close up view of your units that are attacking or defending. If you are in the top view angle where you select your units and decide what to do next, you'll hear the Rain version of the song that plays during a mission, but when the camera zooms in to the close up view of the action, it transitions to the Thunder version to heighten the tension. Hope this helps.
    Also, I just started the video, so if you found out later in the video, sorry for the long winded explanation!

    Several comments have already recommended The Edge of Dawn and Apex of the World, and a few have recommended Chasing Daybreak and Shambhala Area 17, so I'm going to do something slightly different. I'm going to recommend a few songs from a spin-off(?) game, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Specifically: Ashen Demon, Melody of Clarity, and Darkness. A lot of the game's other songs are remixes of songs from Three Houses, but while these three songs borrow leitmotifs, they're ultimately original songs that don't exist in Three Houses.

  • @swordsmancs
    @swordsmancs 6 месяцев назад +2

    Btw the (Rain) and (Thunder) denote two variations of the song. Since fire emblem is a turn-based, grid-based strategy game, you pick your guys and have them take an action. When they attack an enemy unit or support an allied one, the screen zooms in from the top-down map perspective where you move your units around like in chess, down to an on-the-field perspective where you watch the action you selected play out. When it zooms in, the song seamlessly transitions from the calmer Rain variant to the more intense Thunder variant and back again when it zooms back out
    Really hypes up whatever you happen to be doing mid-fight lmao

    One thing that's fun is the synthetic instruments represent an evil faction called "Those who slither in the dark" and are primarily used in their themes, and in the theme "Edge of Dawn" which is a character theme when the lyrics say "I fear the edge of dawn knowing time betrays." That's immedietly followed by an intrumental switch up to nearly all synths taking over the track for a few seconds of the track before switching back to the prior intruments and it tells a nice story

    During a battle there’s 2 music tracks that play parallel to each other, one while on the map, one while in combat, when you phase in and out of combat the music transition is seamlessly transitioned into the other track, which is why the best way to listen to the battle themes in Fire emblem games would be the versions by ZX Apocrypha, they have both versions fall in and out of each other so it’s more faithful to what the game actually plays to you
    (for 3 houses the Thunder version is the battle phase version and usually goes harder)

    In reference to your comment about the rain part of the track title and I am sure somebody else has mentioned it but most modern Fire emblem tracks have reactive ost's for battle music, where there is a version that plays when you are looking at the map and a version that plays when you zoom into the battle. This is done seamlessly as you play and both tracks have the same name on the ost but art marked by subtitles denoting what version, for three houses I believe they are Rain and Thunder tracks.

      Also I'm 90% sure the singer for God shattering star also sings Lord of a dead empire from Fire emblem Echoes if you are looking for more like that.

    Discovered your channel with this and instantly subbed, hoping to see more of this amazing soundtrack!
    When songs say rain, thats the track that plays when you're viewing the entire battle map. Theres another version with Thunder in the brackets, which plays during the combat itself.

    If you ever listen to some more Fire Emblem Three houses specifically, please listen to Shambhala. It really shows the “range” of the ost in this game

    so, some of three houses songs are categorized into rain (calm) version and thunder(intense) version the main diifference is one is the map version(rain) and the other is the combat version(thunder) some differences you hear is the type of instruments used.

  • @adamjsher04
    @adamjsher04 6 месяцев назад +1

    So the deal with the (Rain) and (Thunder) brackets. Basically Three houses has a dynamic soundtrack, when you're overlooking battles, choosing where units need to go (since F.E uses tactical combat) you'll hear the rain version of the themes, but when a fight between 2 units actually HAPPENS, the camera zooms into them and plays out the fight, and the music shifts to the more bombastic and clashing thunder version

  • @zeldatastig
    @zeldatastig 6 месяцев назад

    I really love this Game so much and the music is one reason why.
    And cause you asked the "Rain" music is what you hear mostly cause its on the Map/Battlefield and if you are going in the Fight some tracks dynamicly change into their "Thunder" versions

    Fire Emblem as a series is so phenomenal wonderful characters and music, very few things get as much of a reaction out of me as Fire Emblem, I listen to the OSTs of multiple games constantly, so many catchy and badass themes.

    I love watching musician's first reaction to God Shattering Star. This track gets a reaction out of everyone, and you didn't disappoint.
    About the 'Shackled Wolves' track, the one that left you confused about how all over the place it was... it's the combat theme for a group of four misfits that banded together out of necessity, in order to get out of some bad situations they found themselves in (re: shackled. They also call themselves the Ashen Wolves, so track name get).
    My guess for the chaotic nature of the song is because it doubles as their respective character themes, with various parts corresponding to one of said misfits respectively. The piano section for the somber but snarky girl, the groovy part for the suave but shady pretty boy, the harp section for the girl with the split personality and the bombastic brass part for the bombastic but not too smart leader(?) of the group. Maybe.

    Oh my god oh my god oh my GOD
    You need to do a Part 2, like, yesterday. I’m that serious girl.
    You havent even heard Funeral of Flowers (rain is phenomenal but thunder version is the GOAT), The Edge of Dawn -Seasons of Warfare-, Apex of the World, Paths that Will Never Cross, Tearing Through Heaven…..
    This game’s OST is a treasure trove of masterfully woven pieces, it will be a treat for you I’m sure 🤧

    You should make a Part 2 with the other final boss themes (Apex of the World, Funeral of Flowers, and At What Cost?) as well as a longer version of the ending of the main theme, The Edge of Dawn (Seasons of Warfare)! This game goes WAYY beyond just the tracks you've listened to (God-Shattering Star isn't the only god-tier one).

    I know there’s a ton of other people suggesting game OST’s to react to, but I honestly think you would really like the OMORI soundtrack. It has such a way of communicating the feelings and raw emotions in each and every one of the tracks. You can really feel the sadness, the joy, the absolute Terror just as you would actually playing the game itself. That accompanied by the sheer variety in the music styles while also keeping it consistent enough that you can see the songs flowing from the same game is super cool to me.
    Fair warning, there are some pretty heavy spoilers to the storyline of the game in the soundtrack alone, so if you do search the game up and find it as something that interests you I would totally recommend playing it for yourself ! Genuinely one of my favorite games of all time and I think it deserves more recognition.

    Fodlan Winds and Fodlan Winds (Rain) as well as all other tracks with a Rain variation are basically the battle themes.
    The two variations play in slightly different keys so when you're looking at your units from a Birds-eye view on the *tactical map* it's less intense than when you move a unit to attack, which shifts the perspective so you're watching from the thick of the fighting while the soundtrack transitions to more intense notes.

    So there are two parts to every battle track in Modern Fire Emblem games, usually denoted as X/Y versions. In Three Houses, Rain is the Strategy theme, moving units around the map and such, while the Thunder Versions are for combat, when the battle animations play out.
    For example in Fates they are Calm for strategy and Roar for combat, and the Warriors alternate story Three Hopes has Embers and Inferno for the strategy menu and combat themes.

    Fun fact: most the the time the music goes electronic, it happens when you enter combat against someone, and reverts to orchestral when it zooms back out to the map screen. Really neat system.

    Rain is the standard map theme. Thunder is the music that plays when you zoom in and engage in combat. It shifts seamlessly between the two as well, which is amazing. I prefer Funeral of Flowers (Silver Snow route final boss) in Thunder, not Rain but both are stunning.

  • @MasterCrawford343
    @MasterCrawford343 2 месяца назад

    The gameplay is broken down into 2 main bits: the overhead perspective of the player controlling the player characters, this is where the (Rain) versions play. When you have your character Engage in a battle, the game zooms in to see it play out. This is when the music intensifies becoming the (Thunder) variant. Both versions are incredible, but listening to them back to back is a journey.
