They are scared of sensors. Gotta keep the sensors hidden. Even in a spud gun setup sensors hidden or they try and avoid them. Hope this helps. Please like so he sees.
I feel that it is the bearings and pistons. this is a likely problem to encounter because using piston engines will shred them like a lawn mower. It could be in their code to help them avoid traps.
I can say this is definitely not true. I have a piston enigine car which contains sensors, pistons, bearings and controllers. They have no problem trying to attack my engine when im out exploring
@Adam Banner You are correct!!

I have a good theory on why the Hay Bots are very cautious around traps.
Sensors, maybe the Hay Bots have a smarter AI system, so they are scared of the sensors, so they know it’s a trap.
Solution: maybe you could have the sensor further back?
Not sure, hope this helped!
If thats the case, then he could test it by having a fence of sensors in front of his base. My theory is that the haybot’s hit box is interacting weirdly with the platform because of the fact that it has a piston and bearings attached to it.
Dude, there's a gap on the edge of the trap instead of another ramp so he pathfinds around the gap/drop so he doesn't fall. The only reason it isn't working is because the bot thinks it's gonna fall. And then when it comes to the ones with the walls, they don't go because they see theres an easier path to get to the player by going around the wall
As for the greenies going after it, they're more aggressive to just breaking there way in in a sttaight line, so they have no problems with trying to attack the wall
I was thinking the same thing but id that Isn't the case I don't know what the case is

Good point!
Maybe the path finding stops as it finds a hole, maybe he should put them in vertically, not horizontally.

They don’t avoid pistons tho
I agree
Haybots know about sensors
So the green is stupd and not having brain
@@Cheseday they have an artificial intelligence, but it is not as intricately designed, therefore making the totebots seem less intelligent. Even if this may not be the case, lets just give the developers the benefit of the doubt.
It may be the "pathing" stops up there like a balcony. Try giving him stairs on the other side giving him a valid path to continue to its target. At least that's the way it looks to me, if the bots aren't actually aware of the sensors. Might have to bring closer to your base, and connect/weld it depending on what the code logic is actually doing.
That actually makes sense, because its not the pistons or bearings as they have no problem with the bouncy floor or vehicles
to me it looked like that they were staying away from the sensor, but yours makes sense too.
yeah that's what i was thinking, the pathfinding ai might not like drops
You can see the bot look directly at the sensor and display the fear animation
I think , we just need another ramp behind , for the pathfinding .
The robot will think that it can continue straight and not be block by void .
I would’ve made super simple “land mines” instead. All you’d need is 9 blocks, a sensor, a piston, and 4 ramps. Place single block in ground, weld piston on top of it, weld sensor on top of that, surround the sides of the sensor with the other 8 blocks, then place the ramps all around it. It would also be super lightweight so it would be very powerful.
But what about those that land in farm?
@Edgars Apsitis you would have to build the mines far enough away so the bots’ speed doesn’t launch them into farm. Maybe you could even build a line of the mines at just the right spot so that it launches them into a pit of saws or something?
@Edgars Apsitis you could also make it a larger, two-stage trap where a wall pops up in front of them, then the platform below them flings them like scrapman’s trap.
I’m just saying from how i see it in my mind it has a pretty small chance to actually launch them because they have to walk directly over the sensor
he did it for the memes
It could also be the sensors they are afraid of, look how they stay relatively further away from the sensor or even went around it

I didn't think you put so much work in your thumbnail. I thought you just took a frame of the video.
Keep up the good work😊
You are the reason I'm tired at work 😂
Try to hide the sensor, maybe the haybots are smarter and are trying to avoid the sensor.
Great Video!
I was abaut to say the same

@@cornez4288 about*
Hiding it might not work, but maybe if you move it back and forth on a piston they'll think it's far away and move close but then the sensor could move towards them and trigger
I think that too
When that cow ran into the shot it felt like that moment when u set a timer and run back to the crowd for a group photo
If the Haybots can "see" the threat (i.e. the sensor), they'll back away from it, unlike the -Whip- TOTEbots, which are a bit too simple to notice them. You'll probably have a better time making this work if you hide the sensor under the platform facing up.

Haybot Scrap Metal: "Twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!"
The haybots know about the sensors, they are trying to avoid being detected
You copyed vr oreo
you just copied and pasted someone elses coment
it's definitely the case so, if you make a zone with a lot of sensor making an invisible barrier do the haybot stop attacking and stuck itself ? if it's the case it's a super defense
epic ozzy two people can have the same idea, and if he did copy it , it was so Scrap Man could see it.
I think that there pathing reqires a path down maybe, so have more ramps. And test to see if it is the sensor by testing it with a button.
if it required a path down, I would imagine that it would take a different path, or try to go back the way it came and go around the obstacles.
Or possibly a platform that continues at the same height all the way to the front of the gates. that way they dont read it as a high point obstacle they can just go around. if you replace the bouncy house with a line of launchers i think it would solve the problem as well
He should put bait like a cow so that they go for that
Nice
Depends on how advanced the scrap mechanic pathfinding service is.
You need a bearing on both ends of the piston on the catapult trap so it can keep facing the platform, otherwise it will keep pushing up while the block it is pushing goes to the side.

28:58 RIP Greenie Couple 2020-2020
: they were just having fun
ScrapMan, I built a test of this with stairs all the way around them and the bots will just run right over it as the pathing shows they can go through. They also did not attack the build at all either since I'm assuming it wasn't in their way. The only thing I noticed is that the sensor being directly on the platform it didn't see the haybot feet. I raised it a couple blocks and it works perfectly. The only downside it doesn't appear that they take fall damage.
I think it may be the Holes in the Platform. The Greenies may have a Wider & longer Hitbox while the haybotts are Shorter and Thinner, but the hitbox it Taller than the greenies. So the Haybots might think that there going to fall through and have no way to pathfind towards you.
Idk thats just what i think, hope i might have helped :)
This is my theory: The hay bots don’t like the traps because of the sensors. When the sensor was on the right of the trap, the hay bot went to the left
Like so scrapman can see

Probably not.
Really big brain channel, love this series
Howdy, newish viewer here, I suggest moving the sensors off and behind the "bot-a-pult" increasing there range, I think the haybots are sensing the sensors lol
Scrapman: I don't know what's he avoiding
Me: the sensor
That what I thought
that is what i was saying like the whole time
For truth im pretty sure he thinks he's going to fall in a one block gap because it's ai isn't smart enough to realize it can't fall through the small gaps
I agree I knew it was the sensor,
gotta be
For the farmbot flinger (best wrestler name EVER): the haybots are almost definitely afraid of the sensors, just lien saws or drills. So if you put a sensor in the wall itself (you might end up needing like 3 per catapult), and put something weak like bubble plastic (or scrap wood blocks because they’re easy to get) in front of each sense, the haybot should run up onto the catapult break the bubble plastic/scrap wood block, and not see the sensor until it’s too late >:)
The problem is won't the sensors get triggered by block in front of it?
Edgar is right
@@edgarsapsitis6925 That's when you have a nor gate connected to the sensors and piston
that way they walk up , destroy the block in their way it automatically triggers once the block is gone. The only problem i see with this is that sm wants something that he can just set and forget. Only getting one use per raid night before you have to go out and reset the trap by covering the sensors would completely defeat that purpose.
Couple suggestions:
1. Have scanning sensors.
Put them on a bearing so the move back and forth all the time and put them into an RS Nor Latch. Then have a timer into the other Nor gate to turn it off after about 10 ticks. Take the piston input from whichever gate is activated last.
2. Put the bottom of the piston on a bearing as well.
The piston is trying to tilt forward but instead it's just on the beam at the bottom. Having it on a bearing would allow it to go much further and faster, so you may want to reduce the range to 2.
I have an idea for the ramps in front of the bouncy thing!
You could leave 1-2 ... maybe 3 block gaps in between the ramps so you could get like 1 or 2 ramps back.
I hope you get it!
27:46 when he kill the haybot the arm is spinning in the background
Lol
Ha ha ha

Ye i saw that too

😁
A thing I noticed (correct me if I'm wrong) is that there's no fall damage when you ragdoll. So, theoretically, you could probably build some powerful catapults in key areas for quick travel.
And if you don't like that idea, it could also definitely work on vehicles. Though, I suggest using a test car first, just in case.
SMART
Good idea
That's a noice Idea
I think there is damage
Smart
27:30= Kids at a trampoline park
Also you should make a cage with a lot of saw blades around the inside for a pet greenie. It should be far away from your base just in case the greenie escapes. Like so Scrapman can see.

When your using the bed you regen faster
And if you eat a burger you instantly go to max health
It works in real life to
Aperture Laboratories has tested, and confirmed, [EATING A BURGER] in [SCRAP MECHANIC : SURVIVAL] does not always fully restore your [HEALTH].
{EDIT}
This does not mean it is [UNCOMMON] for such to actually do so.
Scrapman: I’m gonna die if I keep doing this.
Also scrapman: *keeps doing that*
I think the pathfinding of the Heybots is trying to avoid the one block gabs, but because the Greenes have more lags the developers decided to filter the one block gabs out, so that they walk on the trap. But when you are trying to close the gabs the pathfinder doesn't notice, so you have to bring him away and back to it again.
Try putting the sensors on pistons that move up and down because the bots might be scared of the sensors as well as the sawblades. So what would happen is the piston would go up to max height with the sensor and stay there for a second to let the bots onto the trap and then the piston would come down which would fling the bots of the platform as soon as the sensor detects them.
My “theory”
The greenies are like kids and like trampolines and getting bounced and flying that’s another reason why they went on it them selves
The hay bots are adults and are too stressed and “mature” for that kinda stuff so don’t like it
or their AI just isnt programmed to avoid certain things...
and its because the haybots can see the sensors
@@pixy6239 Nope haybots don't stay away from sensors. Otherwise my automatic crusher would not work on them because it is covered with sensors. So far it works perfectly
But they bounce on the bouncy castle
maybe they stay away from the greenie/toteblock heads

and to everyone how is giving in some input thanks you very much in I have some stuff to add now in response to some of the comments about there being a hole one the bounce pad that the bots just walk over and in the fact that some people believe it is that they are scared of the sensors to the first question about the gap in the bouncy flora this is true but there is lots of room for them to stand on the other side whereas with the trap there is only a one-block gap between each hole there for its not only messing with the farm bots ai but making it nearly imposable for it to get the right footing on the trap without a foot falling throo and for the sensor the hay bots I dought they do not like sensors I can prove this in the fact that the small green bots which follow the exact same ai other than being able to swim have no problem with entering the view of the sensor if this is wrong then I am tribally sorry but I believe I'm not.

Scrapman: "estedic"
Hypothesis: haybots avoid sensor trigger area.
Hypothesis 2: haybots avoid sensor trigger area when standing on a moving part.
Hypothesis 3: haybots don't avoid sensor trigger area when player triggers it.
Experiment idea: place a standalone sensor with max range and see if the bots avoid following you when you run through it. Test it if you jump over it. Then test it on a moving platform that is not connected to anything.
I will be back with the experiment done.
Edit: none of the hypothesises were correct, from quite a few experiments in the dev mode I have concluded:
Only haybots only in 1 direction (away from the spaceship if you are at the spawn area) can't hit walls while standing on movable objects.
The experiment has also shown that haybots may try to avoid areas where a lot of bots has died recently.
I have tested all 4 direction, both movable/not movable wall and platform, no platform, confirmed it in a few areas. Tested with totebots and farmbots, none of those have that problem. Seems like a bug. Might report it.
Thank you for your time, great job! 👍👍👍😀
No its just the sensors by themselves not the range area. If you have the sensor on max and its between you and the haybot it goes to to the sensor goes to the side ~16 blocks and still activates the sensor
@@Kassieq In the video you can see that they walked fine before ScrapMan put the rail on the platform. They might avoid sensors, they might avoid blocks in general, but that is not the problem in the video.
