    As a United fan I remember his debut in the champions league..... It's was simply breathtaking the way he took that hat-trick!. Unfortunately standards have massively slipped at our club, people call players like Rashford world class, I'm sorry he couldn't lace Wayne Rooney's boots and that's Facts.

      when rashford is on form he can be world class, last season is a great example, after the world cup he was in a different dimension. We wouldnt have came 4th without him. However Rashfords for is absolutely inconsistant. Rooney however was just always on ball. His worst seasons were the best seasons for some of the current united players. But rooney also had arguably the best team in the prem at the time the ball was just easily gifted to him so he could score. Currently every united player looks terrible by comparison and its hard to see if anyone even remotely has an passion what so ever. I think the only one is Hojlund becuase he wants to prove himself, but with players like rashford, anthony and garnacho hogging the ball and not passing to hojlund when they should it just ruins his mentality and makes him look like a bad player.

      @@ashleygoggs5679 Rashford has had long enough at the club now. He just hasn't done enough on a personal level for me, regardless who's been around him. He did exactly what Pogba did, he put in a great season which got him a new contract on fantastic money. It's time he moved on and we bring some young hungry blood in, we've proved that with manoo, garnacho etc. Rashford doesn't even want to be there, you can tell by his body language, he doesn't smile and he thinks the whole worlds against him. I do agree with you though, we have alot of average players, they need moving on too. It seems every week we're discussing Rashford and how he's not performing to the levels he should be, I'd rather move on from that. I love Hojlunds attitude, we need more of that in the side

    • @johnfranks2661
      @johnfranks2661 11 месяцев назад +4

      @patoma847 simple, he was overworked. Watch any interview given to any United player who played with him, and they'll tell you how hard he worked on the pitch and during training.
      Add to that, he also started early when most players were on the bench/reserve when they were 16.

    • @SW-fn7cl
      @SW-fn7cl 9 месяцев назад +2

      @patoma847 yeah I think it was a mix of things, he was never going to last at top level in the modern game past 30 due to his lifestyle choices, but he worked so hard off the ball and was so well rounded he could play in deeper positions and made sacrifices to chase back and defend to aid players like Ronaldo and Berbatov who didn't do much defensive work. That work off the ball takes a lot out of the legs.

    • @ercoleborgiano
      @ercoleborgiano 9 месяцев назад +2

      While everything you guys have mentioned is indeed true and a factor to take into account, I think the main reason Rooney never reached his true full potential was that he was a bit unlucky in that he never got to be a long-term primary goalscorer for United. When that happened two times in 2009/10 and 2011/12 - his scoring and attacking ability were at their highest. Even after two broken metatarsals (which greatly affected his pace) he was still a predator of a striker. The reasons he never got to be the main guy up front were manifold. Sometimes other players like Ronaldo, RVP etc. were outshining him and he had to play in their shade. Few times he fell out with Sir Alex Ferguson. Other times he'd get bad long-term injuries and took a lot of time to regain match-fitness..

    Fearless player at such a young age! All credit to Sven for taking a risk on young players, didn't always work out like Walcott for example but it did with Rooney. Unfair comment about Crouch at the end, looool.

    Other players as the mature they improve their football skills, and it is said players have their peak from the age 24-32, Wayne Rooney at 17 years of age was already mature, and had best footaballing skills.

    As a Man Utd fan, it hurts me to say Wazza underachieved in his career. Yes he won shitloads of trophies. All time scorer for Man Utd and England. But he was finished by 30. Look at CR7. Before his vacation in Saudi, he went back to Man Utd at age 37 and scored 20+ goals. When they were both 21 years old, Wazza was the superior player purely on natural talent. If he had Ronaldo's work ethic and discipline, Wazza would easily break Shearer's EPL goal record.

      totally agree, CR7 outright pushed himself to compete with Messi, I always thought Rooney had 2 main issues, he didnt take care of himself of the field, and was not selfish enough

    I guess now excluding the last one, 2004 was the biggest disappointment for me. Should have won that tournament, and got absolutely robbed by the referee vs Portugal. So many people I know think Rooney underperformed in his career... Top United and England scorer... Ever.

      @luisfreitas886 2 года назад +2

      Seriously? Get your facts straight. Was an amazing game and Portugal during all tournament was the best team unfortunately, we lost against an extremely defensive team as Greece.
      Talking about being robbed, try to go back to the world Cup of 1966... Google it and reply back!

    Tell me please, what happend, why he couldnt realize his potential fully. Because of managers, placed him in many positions? or that he played under other players? like Ronaldo, Berbatov, Tevez, RvP etc? OR because he didnt care that much of his health. Im still asking myself why...
