Then how he transformed the team in the 2nd half of that season (nearly win the league) and of course win the 2012-13 PL when United sign another deadly striker (Van Persie). Just miss how he pinged the ball from 25m - 30m to wingers like Cr7, Nani, Valencia to run, it was so smooth and so easy.
Yeah that’s it. He gave our wingers so many one on ones by the way he would be playing short passes in the midfield linking up play and then suddenly ping, knocks a ball out to a winger who can then have a go at the full back one v one.

I'm a cork man and a deeply closeted united fan. Obviously huge fan of keano, don't forget about Dennis Irwin, but scholesy was a couple of inches behind Keane in every aspect, ahead in some and it's incredible how people didn't recognize it enough during his career and how fast non united fans have forgotten he was ever there but talk about lampard and Gerrard like they were the second coming
@kevinob1983 Keane was the real boss. Scholes was his sometimes sidekick. Sometimes it was Butt or Blomqvist, but Keane was the man. Scholes was the classiest of him, Butt and Blomqvist, and it showed. But he wasn't as important as Keane, no way. Keane was the boss.

@DirtyJamesUK brother, I absolutely agree. Keane was unparalleled. No doubt. Scholesy was very talented. I was giving him his dues. Young people, from a man u, and an national team point of view, will never grasp how good he was. Ever
In an around the oppenents box, he was a master. All teams panicked when Scoles set the tempo. He had almost the same amount of a fast reaction instinct as Inzagi.

You couldn't get the ball from Xavi; superb ball retention but then you couldn't get close to Scholes because of his movement. Lol Scholes was like fly you kept trying to swat but he was always 2 steps ahead. Pirlo was the most aesthetically pleasing with his elegance
As a goalkeeper growing up my favourite player was always Van Der Sar but my favourite outfield player was Scholes, my mates all loved Ronaldo or Rooney the flair players, but I loved Scholes, I was just amazed at what he could do, how he was always in space, always one step ahead of anyone trying to close him down, he knew what he was going to do with the ball before he had even received it, pin point long pass, visionary through ball, little tricks, control. he dictated play he was a genius. Glad he's getting the recognition he deserves.
I agree, and i support liverpool. Football all about goals and matchwinning moments to a lot of people though. Scholes was a metronome in that man utd midfield, constantly moving the ball... the highlights often look at the goalscorer though, and that is why he is often overlooked.
I have been watching Man Utd games since 2002. Paul Scholes is the player that caught my eyes when i started to support Man Utd. From SS position slowly turning into a midfield maestro. His unmatched talent is able to control the game tempo in every game, and seems to be always made the right pass at the right moment. Every single Utd game that I watch now will only make me miss him more. What a legend.
Similar story man... i watched the 2002 World Cup and i wanted to look like Becks cause all the girls i knew where in love with him back then. After that i saw a couple of Man United matches and was impressed with scholes. My fav player since then!
My favorite players have always been Wazza for how hard he worked, Henry because he could finish from anywhere. And Scholes because he was simply a class act.
Scholesy was the complete cm\attacking midfielder. Intellgent distribution of the ball, impervious to a hard press, pinpoint defense breaking passes, control of the tempo, calm under pressure, lethal from range and the heart of a freaking lion. People forget that he would get stuck in and fight for the team, just like Keano. Maybe even learned from Keano. If one of the lads got hit, Scholesy would have a clattering reply. If we went down a goal, Scholesy would continue working away unfazed, if not spurred on to attack. We had a real character in Scholesy and they're in really limited supply now.
@aabidamn Top technical midfielders don't need speed..they've got it in the head..also he certainly had strength. Did Xavi and lniesta have speed ? Scholes was the only English midfielder that could play in that Barca side and its system 💯
@@JB-Thatisme They were all great midfielders who were slow and weren't exactly strong either. But answer this; do you not think that they would've been even greater if they had more speed and strength? There you go. That is the topic of this conversation, which I personally think is nonsense cause for me there is no such thing as a complete midfielder/striker/defender/GK. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Great players are able to compensate their weaknesses in other aspects of their game.
@@aabidamn they were complete players according to dynamics and versatility like Gullit, Cruyff, and Beckenbauer. complete means a player that can contribute offensively and defensively on a great measure. They give coaches more dynamics in applying various strategies. In modern football, these type of players are usually box-to-box with great techniques. Right now we have Bellingham and Goretzka. Joelinton maybe can get his name on this list but it is still to early to tell. Goretzka and Bellingham are no way near to the 3 names that I mentioned earlier but they are the closest to standard right now. Also complete player is not always the best player. there is perfect and there is also masterclass. In most occasions, masterclass always outdone perfect. If you are talking about perfect according to physical ability, we have Ronaldo, Adriano, Rivaldo and Ibra that ticked all boxes specifically during their early prime days. They were quick, strong, tall, they hit the ball hard, they were agile, good in aerial duel as they were physically strong.
The one Paul Scholes moment I always remember was fro the Champions League against Juventus. Man Utd had been in a group with Juventus and I think they had lost to them in both games, then they were in a group with them again the following year. At Old Trafford Juventus went ahead really early, but Man Utd equalised in the first half. In the second half I can remember Paul Scholes being through on goal and taking the ball around the keeper to put them ahead in a match they ended up winning 3-2.
Scholes urges man utd to buy toni kroos back then when moyes are manager but man utd didn't try hard on it because the manager have plan B it's to sign fellaini . Stupid sht ever happen
There’s no one like Scholes at the moment. He was a mix between Xavi and Iniesta in style. Everything United did went through him, like Xavi in his Barca team, but he also had that tidy movement and finishing further forward like Iniesta. Glorious, glorious player and criminally underrated by England. My favourite of all time.
I wouldn't call Scholesy underrated. All of us United fans love him.Park ju Sung is the definition of underrated. He played a crucial role in the 1999 ucl semifinal but was excluded from the finals squad and Ferguson has said he regrets that till date .Ferguson believes we might've defeated Barca if Park was asked to stop Messi .This guy single handedly stopped Maldini.Truly a legend worth mentioning. Was a big game player for us.He sacrificed his career for us as the roles he were often used in coupled with his knee which was often injured ended his career. He always turned up and also scored often in big games.
Not sure you know what you're saying......Park didn't sign for united until 2005......however, very underrated. However, he wouldn't have stopped messi.....no-one would've.
Park was absolute class. Give him any task and he’d carry it out. He played in the 2011 final marking Messi , I was in the stand directly opposite the goal Messi and Villa scored in. Think Messi goal was 56 minutes in and park trying to get the ball off Iniesta and Xavi and Messi just picked it up and smashed it low past Edwin. By this point Park was fucked. Literally spinning around like he was about to collapse. He was left out of final in Rome in 09 wasn’t he?
You are totally correct. Players like Park and Valencia were underrated, maybe even Carrick and Fletcher. As for Scholes anybody - United fan or not - who saw him play in the 1990s and 2000s recognised his immense ability. This notion that he did not get proper recognition is becoming a farce.
I've always admired Paul, he was a brilliant player, he is the sort of player that demands you to respect him for his amazing ability with the ball! I wish he played for my club!
Whenever anybody brings the whole Lampard vs Gerrard debate I always say Scholes was the best of that era. Amazing range of passing, and he wouldn't lose the ball often - the man was a ghost when he needed to be, he was a great tackler when he needed to be. Lampard has that goal record for a midfielder, which was incredible, but Scholes was brilliant (and high praise from the greatest players in that era as well)

Many years ago a taxi driver talked to me, about this little ginger lad who was coming through the youth team and how good he was. It was Scholes and he wasn’t wrong, the grey man in the team but absolutely fantastic.
He sounds and talks like Karl Pilkington! I'v had the honour of seeing him play several times, against my team, he was very special and is a true English legend.
An incredible talent that didnt get anywhere near the recognition in an England shirt as he should have. Love his attitude to life, very similar to mine in as much as he isnt interested in social media, doesnt care how he is rekebered, just gets on with his life out if the lime light. A wonderful player that proved his class when coming back from retirement to show the others just how its done. Many of the class of 92 players are greatly missed especially given the current crop playing for United now.
I totally understand the comment of “ all you could do was just laugh” because literally it brought joy and the word “how” to your mind. Played hockey with a guy like that growing up, was very special. Would make you think he wasn’t trying when he wasn’t scoring lol
My two favourite players are Cantona and Scholes, watched them both Live growing up, as personalities they were completely different. Cantona was everything I wasn't foreign, poetic, arrogant (or so it seemed) and I idolized him, as I got older Scholes was like me, Mancunian, from a council estate, shit hairline, droll, scruffy etc. but fucking hell I don't think people who didnt watch him live week in week out appreciate just how good he was. There's highlight reels of course but watching him being the smallest guy on the pitch and absolutely boss a game with his brain and his passing was something else. Press him he'll one two it up the pitch, don't press him he's bombing howitzers 50 yards to wingers or full backs, his ability to do that and put the pass on the players stronger foot for him to run into space goes unappreciated, not to mention his heading. I waffle on any chance I get about him. He's from where I'm from, he could do everything (the tackle thing is a myth, tactical bookings and revenge) and lads of my age lived vicariously through him. A genius footballer and a real working class hero, would never talk himself up or brag, constantly says he wasn't that good and hates being complimented. As pep said 'I love it'
I was lucky as a united fan who started following them at 8 years old in 93 as they began their domination of English football and took it for granted that we were a winning machine for the next 15 years but throughout that era nothing came close to the pleasure of watching Paul Scholes ,he was such a natural a true artist on the pitch ,no nonsense, no bravado ,effortlessly excellent pretty much ever match
I was even more lucky, I started in '54. 70 wonderful years, wonderful players, great memories. Used to chase them to their bus stop sometimes after a match for an autograph. Only regard home produced as real United greats even though my all time favourite was, and remains, Tommy Taylor from Barnsley although the three greatest were Duncan Edwards, George Best, and Paul Scholes. There are some good 'uns in this present U'18s and I am informed that the u'14 are very promising.
This man is the reasons I always look at midfielders nowadays with high expectations and feeling like no one in any club is achieving this level of dedications with no care for clouts, just pure passion for club & the beautiful game!
Scholesy was a diamond! A true natural footballer; technique, vision and general football IQ, passing, finishing, movement, scored goals from all ranges, workrate...just an awesome player💯
Was at OT before and it was a match with Rooney, Ronaldo et all and Scholes completely ran the match, everything went through him. You dont see it as much on TV how good he was.
Im not even a United fan but it defies logic how hes so often overlooked for Best 11's. When youve got the list of admirers he has and yet the average fan looks elsewhere you have to question if theyve ever watched a game of football. Perhaps his understated manner saw him never reach that level of love and respect that other players do. Rooney was good, Gazza was good. Scholes is the best player England have ever produced and the one you can really put in the same sentience as Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, Xavi etc etc
Very underestimated player. As a German, I remember that he was around forever being a permanent nuisance in international matches (even in the times when we still knew how to play football). Further, he is an ispiration for the smaller guys among us (which I am one of) proving that it is not about being 6 foot plus or pumping iron in football. I would not even say he was unathletic. He was fast enough for the job, had a terrific shot, did fierce tacklings and I am sure that (getting home from the pub) also did some execise. He was just not the tallest guy on the pitch. But so what?
Absolute genius of a player who is only fully appreciated when at live games. The space he creates, looking over both shoulders to get a view of the pitch, top drawer one and touch player. Round the corner passes. Insane passing range. Not just goals galore but some absolute worldies. Volleys at Villa Park straight from a corner. Ditto Boro. Bradford. Played inch perfect passes from Becks to edge of box and BANG! A tough nasty little fucker. “ Oh but he can’t tackle”. Course he could , he’d always put a reducer in early doors. One of the greatest goals I saw by him was following a 31 pass move against Panathinaikos. Unreal. Was there for that belter against Barca in second leg in 2008. Makes my blood boil when folk say he’s not as good as Stevie Me or Frank Lampard. Different league but always shunted to left. The Ginger Ninja was a genius.
Most underrated player ever, probably coz he never blew his own trumpet, what a legend, what a pleasure it was to watch him week in week out, I’m slightly younger than the class of 92, and yes I was spoilt, the man could do anything he wanted, he was never built like a footballer but what a pleasure to watch, another player that Could be as good with the athleticism that I watched last night, Bellingham, just wow

Oh it was absolute pleasure to watch this guy play, Sir Alex built the team around him and rightly so, when he received the ball, even if there is no one in the wings wide and ahead to receive the ball, he would play a one touch with others and the wings knew they had to spread out and 99/100 he would reach them, that happened everytime he played no matter the opposition.. It was magnificent just to watch this man tick, absolute genius; he knew how to keep the markers at a distance or draw them when needed, he knew where the spaces are or how to create spaces, top notch skills and more importantly excellent vision.. A coach's favourite dream.. Cant figure out how England coaches were oblivious of this.. England would have won more trophies had they utilised this man properly..

Scholes was stood on the touchline at anfield for the media, the kop welcomed him with "you ginger manc tw*t, you ginger manc tw*t, oh paul scholes, you ginger manc tw*t" and scholes gave them a wave of acknowledgement. Man utd were knocked out of the champions league by barcelona, and iniesta and xavi both ran to scholes for his shirt. One of the best midfielders in world football, let alone the premier league. Man utd fans were spoilt in the saf era with the class of 92, and scholes was a massive part of it. As a kopite myself, i should hate him (and saf), but gotta respect and appreciate greatness when you see it.
Wherever he was on the pitch - Scholes knew instinctively what to do, where his teammates where and how to play the killer ball. The guy just 'knew' - it was like he could see the game from above. There aren't many Englishmen who could walk into any team, Scholes is one of them.
It's such a regret that golden generation of players didn't have a great manager to lead them and the blame lies squarely with the FA. Playing Scholes out left in a 442, whilst 4 of the best midfielders in the world got beaten by an extra man everytime against top opposition. It was like asking our team to play with 10 men against the top teams. The manager should have had the balls to drop Lampard and played a holding player in his place. That team should have been built around Scholes & Gerrard.
@@abraham8178 i was comparing them as functional equivalents. Of course they are technically very different. Iniesta on the left side. Back in 2006-07 it was very clear that Carrick and Scholes were very good at positioning. Very formidable and Intelligent. They were able to keep up with Makelele-Ballack-Lampard, Viera-Fabregas, Gerard-Alonso. Dominating them most of the times.. Surely if England had approached midfield the same way Spain did they surely could’ve won a World and a Euro. Because both Stevie and Frankie played like they did in their respective Clubs in a 4-4-2 formation and the team always got caught in counters. Then I got really fascinated by the way Scholes hits the ball, with so much raw strength and still be able to shoot,in a straight line 9 out of 10 times
I practice his motions
(Lost multiple balls to rooftops in the process)
And was finally able to score for the first time,in a game
(It was a banger, from far outside the box)
Thx Paul Scholes 4 teaching me how to hit that thing ⚽️
Did you win the Ballon d'Or
Not yet 😖
but just like,Man utd's Anthony, I'm only one ballon d'or away, from winning the ballon d'or
A central midfield pairing of Scholes and Keane at their best - completely bossing the game!
Scholesey would sidestep you, and if all else fails, Keane would sidekick you 😂
I'm a cork man and a deeply closeted united fan.
@@kevinob1983 even Ince was a midfield boss for United. Both won a Matt Busby award. Scholes never did, and his best chance was after 2006. By then he was about 32.
@DirtyJamesUK brother, I absolutely agree. Keane was unparalleled. No doubt. Scholesy was very talented. I was giving him his dues. Young people, from a man u, and an national team point of view, will never grasp how good he was. Ever
That’s why all the legends say he was the best by far… He had it all was a pleasure watching all your career MR Scholes 👏
In an around the oppenents box, he was a master. All teams panicked when Scoles set the tempo. He had almost the same amount of a fast reaction instinct as Inzagi.
why are you comparing him to a striker?
@@makavelismithbecause you can have similar qualities as another player in a different position too, that's why
I am glad you mentioned inzaghi only few have that killer instinct for a goal.m
Inzaghi was crazy he would make a goal out of nothing if they gave him the ball in the box.
@@shadow_realm47 Inzaghi was such a boring player though. Would run offside 17 times in a game and then the 18th time score on breakaway. He never scored any actual memorable or intriguing goals.
Scholes, Xavi, Pirlo. No one dictates the tempo of a match like these geniuses did today. Modric is the closest in my opinion
Kroos….
@@MrGreenEstateAgents Yes kroos, Fabregas was good but even his role model was Scholes too
xabi alonso too

You couldn't get the ball from Xavi; superb ball retention but then you couldn't get close to Scholes because of his movement. Lol Scholes was like fly you kept trying to swat but he was always 2 steps ahead. Pirlo was the most aesthetically pleasing with his elegance
My favorite player favorite player no joke 💯 paul scholes 🐐 great video 🤙🏾
As a goalkeeper growing up my favourite player was always Van Der Sar but my favourite outfield player was Scholes, my mates all loved Ronaldo or Rooney the flair players, but I loved Scholes, I was just amazed at what he could do, how he was always in space, always one step ahead of anyone trying to close him down, he knew what he was going to do with the ball before he had even received it, pin point long pass, visionary through ball, little tricks, control. he dictated play he was a genius. Glad he's getting the recognition he deserves.
Undeniably one of the very best midfielders ever.
A king on the pitch but a ghost off it. Was a great professional. Lampard and Gerrard got more hype but Scholes was the best imo.
I agree, and i support liverpool.
Football all about goals and matchwinning moments to a lot of people though. Scholes was a metronome in that man utd midfield, constantly moving the ball... the highlights often look at the goalscorer though, and that is why he is often overlooked.
@@turbo8628Gerrard for me.
Paul Scholes told the inter president if you want me to play for you, you will have to buy Manchester United ❤
He's a complete midfielder, only if you ignore the X mark on speed & strength on the thumbnail of this video.
@@aabidamnnone of Zidane, Scholes, Pirlo,Xavi,Iniesta, Modric, Kroos were quick. They're just very very special midfielders
Never realised Paul Scholes was that little when I was a kid. Now I see it, it makes his achievements even more remarkable
Same here. But all the shirts were oversized. all the players looked in a way smaller then they were, even Van Nistelroy
it would have been amazing to see him at inter. But respect his choice of staying all his career in Manchester. What a player!
One of the best to ever play.
Unbelievable player man u never replaced him never will
RVNR is the dream of all mids, never wasted any ball, always ran hard, could go aerial if needed.
What Man Utd need is a player similar to Scoles. Bruno isn't the same, Paul didn't lose focuse or desire. His desire was almost always fierce.
The one player why I bacame a Man U fan.
He was cold and focus while playing..
Scholes urges man utd to buy toni kroos back then when moyes are manager but man utd didn't try hard on it because the manager have plan B it's to sign fellaini . Stupid sht ever happen
Funnily enough a player like Scholes is a once in a generation talent. Not easy to find a player anywhere near his ability pal.
Scholes was an absolute legend...
His tackling was awesome.... Haha...
God bless Scholesy...💙 🙏
It wasn't 1999 it's 2009, I guess.
Pretty sure you mean Prilo instead of Maldini.
I've always admired Paul, he was a brilliant player, he is the sort of player that demands you to respect him for his amazing ability with the ball! I wish he played for my club!
Without doubt the greatest midfielder of his generation.
Whenever anybody brings the whole Lampard vs Gerrard debate I always say Scholes was the best of that era. Amazing range of passing, and he wouldn't lose the ball often - the man was a ghost when he needed to be, he was a great tackler when he needed to be. Lampard has that goal record for a midfielder, which was incredible, but Scholes was brilliant (and high praise from the greatest players in that era as well)
Think Beckham was the best out of all of them
@@timboslice8559bro beckham is a winger, and while he's excellent at what he does (crosses, fks, long shots), his impact is nowhere near scholes or stevie g's level...
Just that england at that time had so many great midfielders but not many great wingers, you can see that scholes had to play on the left wing to fill in the traditional english 442
Maybe you watched too many highlight clips from the time, beckham can and will produce some great moments, but his presence is never consistent throughout the game, unlike other great wingers like Figo or Nedved
@@tnmdepzaikhoaito think there’s a difference between a RM and a RW, RM cross and pass the wide. RW attack and dribble in from out wide. He was the best at what he does as a RM. Beckham was a threat to create a goal scoring chance from anywhere, so no I state my case
As much as I like Scholes, he's not a tackler
And you'd be wrong. Anyone who thinks Scholes could tackle lmao
Legend, my favourite United player
Many years ago a taxi driver talked to me, about this little ginger lad who was coming through the youth team and how good he was. It was Scholes and he wasn’t wrong, the grey man in the team but absolutely fantastic.

A wonderful player that proved his class when coming back from retirement to show the others just how its done.
Many of the class of 92 players are greatly missed especially given the current crop playing for United now.
He was literally a magician, what he was doing is trully magic ❤
Considering how things are going on at our club, I would bring Scholes back from retirement in a heartbeat.
Best ever mid from England ever, more importantly a really humble fella. Pleasure watching it all Scholsey. From a dead jealous Scot.
He got better and better, but always stayed humble, and its the generous players that make for the best football.
Scholes & Keane were 2 of my favourite midfielders until they retired. Solid in midfield,no nonsense and just football.
Scholes playmaking ability was just simply work of art..

Great comment.

This is what the perfect football player would look like. What a guy
So many good memories watching him play.
Inter Milan were not the only club to try to sign Paul Scholes. Peter Reid tried to sign him for Sunderland; admittedly, he didn't get very far.

To be frank, Eriksson could have used Carrick in a Busquets role, Gerrard as Alonso, Lampard as Iniesta and Scholes as Xavi

@@abraham8178 i was comparing them as functional equivalents. Of course they are technically very different. Both Stevie and Frankie are CM.. but they do not have defensive instincts.

But they were clever and prioritised team system than big names.
They let Busquets play CDM and Alonso and Xavi as CM.
