I am so sick of this. But I am not surprised. I told my 10 year old that he'll be lucky if the Metro is built by the time he's 50, and the way its going, I wouldn't be surprised if that transpires.
What is it about Ireland? We cant seem to build important infrastructure. This is 20km of rail line. literally all other European countries have solved this. The planning process is so insane.
Why can't lreland never get anything done. A metro has been discussed for years and nothing ever constructrd, childrens hospital taking forever snd costing an absolute fortune, asylum accommoation, immigration...the list is endless. We have incompetent clueless politicians in this countries
I live in Spain and you are right about the Metro here. They have also built a high speed rail system in the last 30 years. When I return to Ireland I always notice the differences. Also, I don't how many Spanish people have said to me when did visited Dublin, that the city has a real bad litter problem. I hate to say it, but Dublin is miles behind other cities in Eirope.
Eh look at the children's hospital. Everything in Ireland goes waaay over budget 🙄🙄 and takes years longer than estimated . The waste of taxpayers money is scandalous!!
The 3rd world population will be really huge in this country by then, can you imagine using the metro? You'll need a stab proof vest and personal security guards!!!
Don’t forget that this project or the previous incarnation of it had full planning permission ready to go in 2011 to be completed by 2016. Leo Varadkar said at the time that FG would build it if elected despite the economic crash. They were and he soon became transport minister and binned it. It was going to cost a projected €3.5bn then with 0.5bn already in place from European funding. To get to that point represented about 10 years of work and about €200m. The decision not to go ahead has meant a further 20 year delay and tripling to quadrupling of the cost and the costs that go with not having the metro. Thanks Leo.
I think the politicians are just so fed up with dealing with this that they just want to kick it down the road for someone else to deal with. It'll never get built at this rate.
Another Irish joke, and we've written the script ourselves. The same people who are objecting to, and holding up this vital project, complain about the traffic jams in the city, and how long it takes to get to and from work. By the time the Metro Link is up and running, my grandson who is 8 years old, will probably qualify for the free travel. A national embarrassment. 😣
as some one who lives in county wexford the transport system in dublin is amazing to me, imagine being able to hop on a train every few minutes for less than 10 euro
Not alone do we not have a decent leader of our country we don't even have capable politicians. They are too busy feathering their own nest. Yet Newstalk and RTE have been falling over themselves to praise Varadkar and Harris. Pat Kenny should keep his false indignation to himself.
The problem with the consultations is that by the time they have the next one everyone who attended the first has died so nobody can remember if they have the go ahead to build.
we can do nothing big. Even Blakes corner Ennistymon a tiny bridge cannot be built for all sort of reasons-Its being debated now since 1970--The Cliff of moher have been developed and big buses get stuck on this corner-nobody takes charge
Come on! What's the surprise? This "metrolink" project is no exception. Talk, talk and more talk...NO MEANINGFUL ACTION . Ireland must by now be well used to this behaviour of promised but unfinished projects. How many crises, and unfinished projects are open at the minute? Shennaigans, opaque trade-offs and brown envelopes have been the order of the day, since independance was declared way back in 1921.....btw, another unfinished project . So what's the surprise with more talk 30 years later about this metrolink project🤔🤑🤥. It merely evidences, once again, the shameless behavior of our "establishment" politicians and state bodies"🙄🤮😭
@@FiremanSimon We are talking about the present day, past government failures have got nothing what so ever to do with the current governments vision of the future!
Dublin does not need a metro system it cannot even manage a light rail system. No point having a metro system when there is not even a functioning bus network.
@@murpho999 If you used them you would know how unsafe they are. An on top of that the lines do not actually connect. Hence why they cannot even get a simple system right.
waste of time and energy not needed and even in environmental terms in ten years time grreen hydrogen powered buses will be a reallity or soon after.also comparing dublin a relatively small city with madrid 5million people is disingenous where a bus from the airport would be a pain in the neck which the bus from dublin airport to the city centre most certaintly isn't i have done it loads at times not a bother at all.
It took north clondalkin 50 years to get a library. Just build the poxy thing.
Of course we are pathetic ,and the greens are dreadful,Ryan is a spoofer
You're right.
Cabra 60 years for its library
Still one of the few capital cities in Europe with no rail link to its airport.

Installing the Luas surface costs 1.5 million per kilometer & Madrid underground with a big tunnel boring machine cost 500,000 per kilometer.
What is it about Ireland? We cant seem to build important infrastructure. This is 20km of rail line. literally all other European countries have solved this. The planning process is so insane.
Irish Jobs for the boys/consulting fees.. Luas should have been an underground subway built by Japanese in the 90s for half the cost/half the time.
China would build it in 3 weeks.
When I’m reincarnated, I am coming back as an Urban Transport consultant in Ireland - absolute money for old rope!
We just have a useless governmental system
Dublin needs a reservoir in North Leinster ..not a metro going to south Leinster.
There is no metro going to South Leinster so I’m not sure what you are on about. I also fail to see what a rail line has to do with a water reservoir.

We're just not a 1st tier country, it's that simple, without American corporate money we would be on the same level as Albania or somewhere
And the motorway Cork to Limerick
@@tommyoconnor1224 Sure you can say that about most countries.

For what i have seen in other countries it most definitely wont be me or my family travelling on the Metro .

Well, we do have a new, young, energetic and dynamic new Taoiseach who will no doubt hasten this and other projects.

Tongue in cheek of course 😂

easiest solution in the short term will be to extend the dart to the airport, which i see is discussed
It's the only real option right now.

Hopeless
The goverment know theirs no point in building the metro when the plan is to keep the population within 15min "cities"
That was a fail 20yrs ago.

Enda Kenny turned the sod back in 2016, for the events centre in Cork city. Fast forward to 2024, no work has started yet! 8 years and counting.

How can it you say it can’t manage a light rail system when two Luas lines are running successfully for almost 20 years now?
It's that type of thinking that is part of the problem
