      I got the cosmos elite and used my Vive wireless adapter on it. Irregardless of the price, this combo makes it the best VR solution available. Nothing is even in the same league as that combo. I wonder why no one is making videos about this. It's really frustrating, because wireless needs to be pushed more. Once you go wireless with high fidelity, you can't go back. I'm trying to sell my pimax 5k+ after it.

    Sadly, this is more like Vive Cosmos REcyclE (REE!!!) edition. As Tyriel mentioned, the only real advantage is availability (also regional availability) especially due to the current global situation.
    It's expensive but at least the tracking works properly with the issues with wands are well known but at least it's also easily replaceable and it is another way to get into Full Body Tracking if that's your thing. but maybe the only deal in town right now if the Valve Index and Rift/Quests are constantly out of stock. It's a real shame HTC still insists on premium prices when they are no longer the top game in town.

      I know, I have the Samsung Odyssey+ headset and I love it (paid $250). The screen is one of the best on the market especially with the pixel filter, I would look at the index for it's controllers as an upgrade but I can't see a reason to get anything from Vive.

    • @UnknownSquid
      @UnknownSquid 4 года назад +1

      @@graysonsmith7031 Literally all Vive needed to do to compete, was stick with their existing overall design, include the "deluxe strap" as standard, and bring the resolution up to Rift-S levels, and sell it for no more than $600. Even with the old controllers, that would be incredibly competitive in today's market. There's a critical gap for a mid range headset right now, for people who want something a little better and more versatile than the Rift-S, but aren't willing to pay for an Index. Had they gone with this route, they could have saved millions on failed R&D and stuck with existing proven tech, and would have needed only to make very minor adjustments to their production lines.
      Not to mention it would help keep one of their more successful products relevant and accessible, their lighthouse tracking pucks. The VR-Chat community would eat up a mid range FBT compatible headset like hotcakes in the current market. It'd be first on everyone's recommendation list, rather than referred to as, I quote "Avoid like the plague" when talking to prospective buyers about the Cosmos.

    • @RojasTKD7
      @RojasTKD7 4 года назад

      @@graysonsmith7031 I own 7 VR headsets and after getting the Rift S, Index and recently a Cosmos Elite the Odyssey+looks like a blurry mess. Yes the"filter" eliminates SDE, but as overall blurriness to the image. I personally prefer a sharp picture with minimal SDE than No noticable SDE but blurred picture.
      I guess it all a trade off and subject to personal preference. The Odyssey j sits next to my old Vive in the only used when all other headsets are occupied category.
      FWI the Cosmos Elite with GearVR lens mod and wireless adapter is in my top two headsets. Right next to my Index. I got mine used cuz it's not worth full price and need the lens mod.

    HTC REALLLY needs new innovative controllers, or just come up with something similar to the new standard. I like my Odyssey + controllers better than the vive wands. I want to upgrade eventually to a better headset, but I think I will wait a while and see what else comes this year. Especially with the the HP coming out, that was in some collaboration with Valve. All though the Vive pro HMD might be a good buy if you get it stand alone, then add some index controllers and lighthouse 2.0 trackers. At least once they become more available from valve.
    HTC keeps losing with their pricing strategy.

      I know this is a week old already but I personally have the pro with index controllers and imo, it’s the best combo one can get! Ive put an order for one in for 2 bug reasons.
    1. In australia you CANNOT buy the valve index they do not ship here.
    2. The occulous rift s is only other real option and scalpers are selling it for 400 more than this kit.
    Its really the only option apart from the original cosmos, since that has such bad tracking i dont want to go near it.
    Its at the end of the day THE only choice.

  • @Stalltt
    @Stalltt 4 года назад +6

    I picked one of these up around a month ago and I've been fairly happy with it so far. I would've gotten an Index for the controllers if I had the choice but I didn't want to deal with the two month backorder.
    I think something that isn't really weighed in reviews of the Elite for first-time buyers is that they don't have baggage from previous VR headsets. The older stations & wands still feel like magic to me because this is my first headset, but I could see how people who have been in the VR world for much longer and have tested so many would be annoyed by the return to the original Vive gear.
    I'm hoping that it lives up to the modularity claims but I'm worried the poor reception will lead to fewer parts made for them in the long run.

It worked well, but now I regret it, as I also did the lens mod, and now I got too close to the lenses, and I got more barbell distortion as well from it( I think, the last bit can be a bit subjective). I don't get why people keep comparing entire ecosystems when thanks to SteamVR, you can literally pick and choose as you need. Like the cosmos elite as a set doesn't make sense to me, but as a stand-alone headset with the index controllers and wireless adapter, it may not be a bad option. I am personally leaning that way. If they had reworked the Cosmos controllers to work with Lighthouse tracking, and brought this in around $600, they probably would have had a winner on their hands.
    $899 with the old controllers? No, definitely not.

    We don't lose much FOV because there wasn't much to begin with! Classic Lol. I don't think I will be getting a Cosmos, when i can get a Valve Index for basically the same price(and H/L Alyx thrown in for free).

    VR 2 must happen... all this vr companies dont offer a standard... some have good soft but bad design... sum have FOV buy no sweat spot ... sum have sweet spot but no fov ... some dont track all ... is just messy ... VR 2 is should fix diferemces and start inovating new stuff like eye tracking etc ..this VR industry is messy ... lucky for the valve who made a standard but the rest is bulshiit

    I don't feel like they're going to "original".
    -If your talking base station 1.0 vs 2.0 or steamvr base station technology your looking at a difference between feet in play space. Most people I know dont have huge play spaces. The huge play spaces that I know of in example are those who are architects exploring their design in vr.
    -Controllers; its Vives decision to make new controllers the reason they did is with the cosmos controllers is for tracking. Otherwise Vive Wands weren't that badly. And that's Vives decision what they do. Valve Index controllers is Valves. People whine and complain way too much about every damn little thing that performance wise wasn't crucial and if they claim it is they're just being critical and judgemental and probably being paid by someone to do so or playing favoritism.
    -Display, lol do I need to go into "old" on display? No it's clearly better.
    Definition of Elite, in this case. Its modular. It has options. Has an amazing display. It can use all base stations made between Vive and Valve and most of all vr controllers. You can easily take VR on the go. Or have a high quality tracking in house.

    I'm not a fan of vive... Always really expensive with paying more for less. This seems like a big fail.. total flop of cosmos and now a repackaging to add insult to injury and when you add up all the costs, why even bother... Either get a samsung od +/rift s or an index for PC vr... Id say these are the three best options now.
