    thank you so much for this perfectly timed video. i have always been drawn to the idea of practicing shodo in a digital world. I purchased an ink stone, an ink stick, and paper which should arrive Monday. I chose my ink from two options a professional and an artist version. I was told the artist version would produce a wider range of blacks. Can you offer me any advice before i dip my toe and my ink stick in the water?

    In my Japanese class, sensei taught use aspects of Japanese culture as well as the language itself. We talked about how the the Jomon period translates roughly to "design by rope", referencing the rope designs featured in Jomon era pottery, some of the world's oldest pottery. Then there was "A Tale of Genji," serving as the world's first fully fictional novel. Anime, manga, Nintendo, giant tech companies - the Japanese have really served as a creative hub! どもありがとございます!

    I personally own a few pieces in such neat onnade style yet I feel, on occasion, the calligraphy can become too harmonious and technical, when this cursive style, while necessarily harmonious to a certain extent, mainly to preserve the aesthetic of a piece, also needs a slight glimpse of chaos, virtuosity and improvisation, rather than relying solely on technical prowess. There is a certain overlay yet much disparity between technique and virtuosity, somehow I have observed that pieces made by japanese women tend to strike this balance most correctly, such as, for example, the variety of most exquisite courtesan letters from the Heian period that still survive, but even well into the Edo period, with more excellent examples of courtesans as well as some well known names like Otagaki Rengetsu, I personally own a piece hailing from said period that I cherish as a masterwork in my collection, outshining any newer, more contemporary pieces I have since obtained, tis clear as spring water, only some can pull such style out naturally

    I wonder how old you have to.be, for a regular japanese boy or girl to be able to read this.
    I've read hiragana was used by women, and no kanji, or perhaps only one or two are used in here, am I right?
    This very cursive script I don't have a clue how you people are able to distinguish.
    I think it would be nice to have some videos about the rules, in case there are rules, that allow you to transform regular into this extreme cursive script. Am I right if I suppose most of them are based in an inner knowledge of the way regular kanji is written?
    Thank you so much, Takumisan, for allowing us to have an insight of you culture. Domo arigatoo gozaimasu.

    When i try to use a brush, even a thin tip, the ink just splotches on the paper and soaks it up in a mess. I do not even get to write with it. And my brush seems too movable in that when I press, the entire brush bristles goes with it and then stays in that position. I twist the brush to use that side and it moves and stays in that spot. Very frustrating. I do use cheap brushes, paper and inks, but still.

    • @usamanasher3900
      @usamanasher3900 7 месяцев назад

      The bleeding ink thing can be solved by grinding more ink into the water. Your ink is too thin. If it still bleeds... Double the grinding time.

      @tilasole3252 Damn... I thought liquid ink was optimal and ready to be used without further additions. Maybe the type of paper then? Who knows... maybe you'll be swapping things one by one till you end up with all top quality tools in the end.... we all improvise, lol

    • @tilasole3252

      @@usamanasher3900 I've heard artists prefer to create their own ink using an ink stick , due to they can control different factors. The current bottle I own is old by several years, so maybe the consistency has changed. But one would assume it would evaporate, so it would be thicker, instead of runnier. And I do not buy online, so I can only get what local shops have and with in reason for price.

      Before 20th century there were multiple forms of character for one hiragana, so if you don’t know them you can’t guess what the character represents.
