My 6 year old son was on a zoom call this week with his teacher and they were going over the pilgrims and why we give thanks etc. right when he got off that zoom call I sat him down and gave him the truth. I refuse for my children to be lied to or dumbed down by the school system/government. It’s also sad that the Native American genocide is the least talked about genocide ever AND we give them absolutely NO credit whatsoever for everything they taught the white settlers! Horrible.

There’s a wonderful Native American eatery in Denver called “Tocabe” that’s run by all Native people. The food is excellent and made with wholesome, fresh and health conscious ingredients. I always stop there when I drive cross-country through Colorado. I’m unsure whether they’ll be open Thanksgiving Day, but it’s worth looking into if you’re in the area to support them ❤️

I've also taken a Native cultures college course that taught me a lot about the many different First Nation's cultures out there. I wanted to note that many First Nation tribes kept slaves long before colonization happened. These slaves were usually from other tribes. We're often romanticized because of what was stolen from us and what we've endured but I think it's important to acknowledge that fact as it is the truth. I've personally faced criticism for dating a man from a tribe that was known for stealing our women. FN people were far from perfect but the genocide that we faced was very real so I appreciate you two not only covering this topic but dedicating a podcast towards it ❤️

Someone hit her with the "But you're white" and she turned so red like "YEAH AND I'M MAD" 😂😂 so if for whatever reason she watches and sees this comment (she's dope as shit so I wouldn't be surprised) Mrs. Boardman from Wareham High, I love you and you weren't appreciated enough 😂💜

For the first time in years Best Buy is closed on Thanksgiving. As a Best Buy employee that has been working through the whole pandemic... it's been rough. Customers have been absolute trash to us. During the lockdown back in spring we were spit and coughed on, screamed and cussed at and threatened with bodily harm... just because we couldn't let them in the store. Thank you for asking people to be nice to us.
That sucks......I definitely appreciate you, people working all sorts of jobs are equally appreciated because we are ALL needed and important in our own ways.........I am a nurse....and obviously I definitely understand what you're saying.....people have fear of covid or either refuse to believe it's real and whichever spectrum they're on.....it's created stress.......and people react when they are stressed........praying that you enjoy your day off and have a safe, blessed day off!

I am an elementary school teacher and something I loved was in my undergrad, we had a professor who taught a class on basically how to teach history in elementary. She always stressed how important it is to make sure we teach our students both sides when talking about history. I think this is huge for students to see both perspectives and make up their minds about how they feel, without a biased view.
I had to comment this before I forgot about it. The Walmarts here in Kentucky announced they wouldn't be doing black friday this year due to Covid19 which I'm sure is going to save lots of lives. Our hospitals here are all full and our Governor recommended not to have families together for Thanksgiving but there's many that said they will do what they want. I would rather have a zoom Thanksgiving than an ICU Christmas.

My daughter is doing online virtual learning 1st grade. Her assignment said Settlers came and the pilgrims helped them crop vegetables. I was raised doing thanksgiving with my family but now since ive been pagan for like 5 years or longer, I much more enjoy celebrating mabon, the autumn equinox. It's about celebrating the fall harvest, As the Wheel of the year comes to an end, Mabon is a good time to set intentions that involve decrease and reduction such as ending bad relationships, unhealthy habits or self destructive beliefs and being thankful for the things in your life that are plentiful. For Thanksgiving: in the morning I did a photoshoot with my dog. My 1st dog had a faux fur collar that I'd do Thanksgiving photos of him in...after he passed, I began carrying on the 'Thanksgiving Fur' tradition with (my current) dog Elenore. After that, we watched the Thanksgiving parade. After that, I went out to the horse rescue I volunteer at, to make sure the 3 horses were groomed and fed, pasture mucked....etc. Got home and made (not Thanksgiving) dinner, and watched the re-showing of the dog show. Pretty low-key, but was glad to have my dog with me all day
I am from Poland and remember when I was studying American History years back and we studied the true story of the Pilgrims and how they treated the native people of America. No sugar coating, just facts. It struck me why people would be so happy about Thanksgiving when it was actually a bloodbath. I guess the idea of being thankful is great, just the history behind it is frequently not presented as truthfully as it should be. Maybe helping native peoples should be something to think about during Thanksgiving?

I'm from England and had no idea of the true story behind Thanksgiving. It is upsetting to me and angers me, so I can't imagine how it must feel for Native Americans today. There are several instances where our school curriculum here will sway the truth to make the British look better too; it's infuriating knowing what I know now. English person here too, I don't understand how people didn't know 🙈 I feel like I understood since I was a smol child even though no one ever explicitly told me. The British Empire? It confuses me, maybe it's because I was fortunate to travel a lot as a young one that I saw things other people weren't seeing, I dunno.
Also I vividly remember trying to speak to other school children about the struggles in other countries, truth about "the empire" etc, and them getting angry with me 🤷🏻♀️😂 Super weird. My daughter is in 1st grade and they didn’t talk about thanksgiving at all. My son is in preschool and learned what I learned in school, the pilgrims and Indians met and had a huge feast to celebrate their friendship. He made a little feather headband and a paper ship for the mayflower. For us thanksgiving has always just been getting together with family, eating, and being thankful! But I’m definitely going to have a talk with my kids so they aren’t blind sided one day with this information of how things really went down!

I call my Thanksgiving “Autumn Gratitude Harvest”. Our friends come over and We hang out for the whole weekend in sweats doing puzzles, eating, drinking, watching movies and snacking on the local magic mushrooms that fruit mid November. It’s really wonderful.

Thank you for telling the real story of Thanksgiving! I am native American (mvskoke and Tsalagi nations) and my family celebrates very different from alot of people. Thanksgiving is also called the Day of Mourning to remember the loss and hard times. But we also celebrate together and eat together like other families. But it's an understood thing that it's also meant to be a day of mourning. I appreciate your attitude towards the native community. It feels good knowing this is a safe space. Wado (thank you). ❤️

I was raised doing thanksgiving with my family but now since ive been pagan for like 5 years or longer, I much more enjoy celebrating mabon, the autumn equinox. It's about celebrating the fall harvest, As the Wheel of the year comes to an end, Mabon is a good time to set intentions that involve decrease and reduction such as ending bad relationships, unhealthy habits or self destructive beliefs and being thankful for the things in your life that are plentiful. Thank you so much for sharing the truth and it was fun to see y'all having a good time doing so!

For Thanksgiving: in the morning I did a photoshoot with my dog. My 1st dog had a faux fur collar that I'd do Thanksgiving photos of him in...after he passed, I began carrying on the 'Thanksgiving Fur' tradition with (my current) dog Elenore. After that, we watched the Thanksgiving parade. After that, I went out to the horse rescue I volunteer at, to make sure the 3 horses were groomed and fed, pasture mucked....etc. Got home and made (not Thanksgiving) dinner, and watched the re-showing of the dog show. Pretty low-key, but was glad to have my dog with me all day

I am from Poland and remember when I was studying American History years back and we studied the true story of the Pilgrims and how they treated the native people of America. No sugar coating, just facts. It struck me why people would be so happy about Thanksgiving when it was actually a bloodbath. I guess the idea of being thankful is great, just the history behind it is frequently not presented as truthfully as it should be. Maybe helping native peoples should be something to think about during Thanksgiving?

I'm from England and had no idea of the true story behind Thanksgiving. It is upsetting to me and angers me, so I can't imagine how it must feel for Native Americans today. There are several instances where our school curriculum here will sway the truth to make the British look better too; it's infuriating knowing what I know now. I'm happy people are spreading the truth, great pod as always
English person here too, I don't understand how people didn't know 🙈 I feel like I understood since I was a smol child even though no one ever explicitly told me. The British Empire? It confuses me, maybe it's because I was fortunate to travel a lot as a young one that I saw things other people weren't seeing, I dunno.
Also I vividly remember trying to speak to other school children about the struggles in other countries, truth about "the empire" etc, and them getting angry with me 🤷🏻♀️😂 Super weird. Not to play the race card but it was probably because Im brown (and the only brown kid in my school) I wonder if I was white if they would have been more receptive to what I was saying.

My daughter is in 1st grade and they didn’t talk about thanksgiving at all. My son is in preschool and learned what I learned in school, the pilgrims and Indians met and had a huge feast to celebrate their friendship. He made a little feather headband and a paper ship for the mayflower. For us thanksgiving has always just been getting together with family, eating, and being thankful! But I’m definitely going to have a talk with my kids so they aren’t blind sided one day with this information of how things really went down!

I call my Thanksgiving “Autumn Gratitude Harvest”. Our friends come over and We hang out for the whole weekend in sweats doing puzzles, eating, drinking, watching movies and snacking on the local magic mushrooms that fruit mid November. It’s really wonderful.

Thank you for telling the real story of Thanksgiving! I am native American (mvskoke and Tsalagi nations) and my family celebrates very different from alot of people. Thanksgiving is also called the Day of Mourning to remember the loss and hard times. But we also celebrate together and eat together like other families. But it's an understood thing that it's also meant to be a day of mourning. I appreciate your attitude towards the native community. It feels good knowing this is a safe space. Wado (thank you). ❤️
