It’s been said to be young Barton distillate blended with unknown Canadian whiskey. As you’re aware, Canadian whiskeys can contain additives and the blended whiskey designation can cover for a lot of crap.
Another twist of irony is that Chris Stapleton has said he’s a recovering alcoholic who lives a sober lifestyle. How was he involved in the blending selection process?

From the bourbon culture: (What Sazerac needed was another brand that could be sold for cheap and easy to scale up. A whiskey that would contain some bourbon in it and another cheap kind of spirit would be ideal. That’s why they eventually settled on a large portion of Traveller Whiskey blend being Canadian Whisky. Sazerac has been keen on building up their portfolio of Canadian Whisky and now is the time to start using it.)

When you start saying things like "it's not bad for $xx", I start tuning out the rest of the discussion. I'm at the point of my life where I'll pay a little extra and get "pretty good". BT, Benchmark Full Proof and Cooper's Craft are all pretty good (to me) and well below that $40 range.

I tried it yesterday and today at buffalo trace. I have to agree with your assessment, better than I expected but not enough for me to buy it regardless of the hype. Anyone going out of their way to get it or paying a markup is just letting fomo get the best of them. They kept saying this was going to be a "staple" in their lineup, so I think you can expect this to be as readily available as their vodka soon.

Its good to see more reasonably priced quality stuff getting out there. Just last week I lucked out with a store pick of Old Scout Barrel Proof Rye (just about the same as Rare Breed in terms of proof). For an extremely reasonable 42.99. So at least some distilleries are putting out good stuff at affordable prices. Not bad way to start the year if I'm being honest. If I can find Traveler for a reasonable price I might grab it, if nothing else it might be a good everyday option. I had heard it was a blend of Canadian and Tennessee whiskies, which kinda makes sense with the flavor profile you guys described.

Where I live in South Georgia the price on Buffalo Trace is all over the place if you can buy it from $ 39- $ 47. In our town I went to buy a back up bottle and the new store said that if I bought a bottle 1 bottle limit) of Buffalo Trace I would have to buy a bottle of Nue Vodka. I left the store without buying anything. I went to another store in my small town they had a 1 bottle limit also @ $ 47. I will look again when I go out of town for another bottle. I haven't seen The Traveler yet in our area.

Gave it a try tonight. What it lacks in aroma it also seems to lack in flavor. It’s kinda of like bourbon lite. All the flavors are there it just seems to be really hard to get them to amount to much at once. Taking a sniff you get a second of a decent bourbon, then like a magician with a rabbit in a hat, poof it’s gone. Go back for a second sniff and same things happens. Same with the taste, it feels like it’s going to be really good for a second then it kinda of disappears. Hard to get it to stick. I mean it’s not bad, and maybe it will open up a bit after the neck pour is gone. Would I buy it again, maybe. Maybe it will get better, and maybe if the price stays cheap it would be good for a nice breakfast bourbon, lol.

I'm a little South of Atlanta. We can't even really find Buffalo Trace bottles here. I went to a new liquor store and they had a normal BT bottle for $65. I literally laughed and told them that they thought a lot of their BT. He chuckled and said, we only got one case and this is the last bottle. So I have no hopes of even seeing a Stapleton bottle.

Evening from Louisiana gents! Coincidentally grabbed a bottle today ($40 as well). Readily available here.
I agree with your flavor notes 💯. Solid whiskey, but lacking any great character. Better options at lower price point, but glad I tried it.

I can get Buffalo Trace quite easily here in Maine, it is on the bottom shelf (laugh) at most of our grocery stores. Not going to spend 40+ for traveller.

I had a chance to buy it, but after tasting it I was like ehh. I ended up getting a Buffalo Trace Single Barrel Store Pick, which was $15 bucks cheaper.

$39.99 here in south Louisiana. Local supermarket chain has at least 6-8 cases per larger location. Very available. I tried with BT. I will wait for your opinions bf my comment.

So glad I watched this video. I prob Would not have bought this before. I tend feel like sometimes these collabs can be “gimmickee”but I found it at retail like you suggested and actually really liked it. Thanks so much to both of you it’s pretty much spot on to how you both described it. I really dig the 90-100 proof range and this stuff has more flavor to me than anything else on that range.

I bought two bottles of Traveler the day it hit the stores. I have one to sip on, and one is put away. I thought it was pretty good. I think it needs to be at least 100 proof, and it should be amazing. Keep up the great work.

You need a blind, same bottle:
1 left in car for the weekend in summer
2 left in car for the weekend in winter
    3 kept in the basement.

It may be time for a celebrity bourbon faceoff. I've noticed a lot of celebrity bourbons/whiskeys out there. Tasting Table has a list of the top 11. When looking at pricing, there are a bunch in under $50 price range, which sound perfect for a beginner or budget bourbon/whiskey person. It would be cool to get the SLB opinions on some of these. For example BSB (Jamie Foxx), Wolf Moon (Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line), Brother's Bond (2 celebrities I've never heard of...lol), and Bradshaw Bourbon (Terry Bradshaw) to name a few from that article.
Anyway, keep up the great content.

FYI one of Chris Stapletons hits is the classic song "Tennessee Whiskey" it's a great song and one you would probably enjoy, he was not the first to record that song but his version is what I think is the best version, he is very talented even if you are not a country fan..
