I bought 2 bottles. It's good. Non threatening. Easily drinkable. With some bourbons creeping up into $70-80, I think it's well priced. If it was higher proof, the flavor might present itself better.

A diplomatic review for a cash-grab bottling. I doubt any of the bourbon in this blend was destined to become 1792, more likely a blend of VOB 90 and Can Mist. I would love to see this tasted double blind against 3 or 4 other 90 proof whiskeys. And its good to see you back Sara.

Just to put things in perspective: In the control state of Ohio, Traveller is $39.99, ER is $41.99 and BT is $26.99. Which would you you buy at those prices? Yes, I know ER and BT are both hard to find in Ohio, but currently so is Traveller. Locally, guys were flipping Traveller for $80. For about 2 days till the word got out, lol.

Nice review. People who like it say it’s a great introduction to whiskey for beginners. It’s $40. There are so many whiskeys that are better for beginners and less than $40. Not much flavor in the Traveller. Would rather have Buffalo Trace, Weller SR, Elijah Craig Small Batch, Cooper’s Craft 100, Redwood Empire Pipe Dream and on and on…🥃

  • @WhiskyForBeginners

I think that these days a lot of people would by warm spit as long as the Buffalo Trace name was on it somewhere.
6:44 When I was new to whisky - all of two years and three months ago 😂 - I wasn't even thinking about "smooth," or the burn or lack thereof. On the other hand I tried whisky specifically to try out the taste, so I probably am atypical. And it didn't take long for me to learn that 90 proof is better (as a general rule) than 80, and 100 is better than 90. And now I enjoy proof - 120 and above suits me. But even without the concern for taste, probably it's a good thing that I started with 80 proof juice. On the other hand, there's some 90 proof whisky that I think would be all right for a beginner, because it doesn't drink hot and it tastes good. And I'm not sure if I've actually made the point I set out to make; I wound up rambling. 😂

I would agree it just isn't worth $32 a bottle maybe $15-$18 but of course I bought 2 bottles thinking if it's good when I go back for more Costco won't have any more! BUTT after tasting it with my son both deciding it wasn't very good we dropped a couple of ice cubes in it DAMN it was much better on ice than straight up give it a try!

  • @MetaPrometheus

Okay taste for a celebrity whiskey, but could and should be better for $40. As it is, it should be $25-30. Thankfully the local Hyvee grocery has a sample bar in the liquor section so I didn't have to gamble $40. Jameson Original is going to be a way better whiskey for roughly $25, if it's just whiskey you are after. If sales slump and they start running price cuts on it below $30, I might buy a bottle. A lot of my friends have been asking about Traveller whiskey but none of them have bought a bottle yet. I passed on a bottle of it today and got a 1 liter Old Grand-Dad Bonded ($22) instead. So I'm going to say this product release is basically all Buffalo Trace hype.

I can't figure out the hype. Is it just Chris Stapleton? Is it Buffalo Trace hype? If it's BT, I don't understand it because it's not bourbon and it's not even their own distillate. So it can't even be like a cheap alternative to their allocated stuff. It's supposed to be pretty readily available too, so I also don't understand the people paying for marked up bottles. It's just insanity.
