Just finished up my CCU chain for a Crucible today, but my biggest complaint is the loaner is only an Andromeda, but the Vulcan gets a Starfarer.
Salvage gameplay was far better than I expected so I can't wait for repair gameplay to come online. It is going to get bigger but I don't think it'll get too much bigger like you said the arms can reach out so the rest of the ship doesn't need it. I think arms vs drones will basically come down to arms will be hooked up to the ship and wont have to periodically reload on materials to perform repairs.

Wow, you made me want a Crucible. I already have a Vulcan but now that you explained the repair gameplay loop I think this might, for personal reasons, be my ultimate ship (aircraft mechanic for 31 years, USMC/USAF). Besides, a crucible with a swarm of Furies would be quite the sight to behold.

I bought this when released at concept, late 2015. Want to know how much work, CIG has put into it, some eight years later? Zero work has been done; that's how much. When is it planned to be finished? There is no plan, or even a stated goal to even start work on it, much less finish it. Why? It relies on a repair game feature set, that will never be implemented (in it's entirety), because it's too CPU intensive and computer resource hungry. The Crucible will never be completed. If it takes this long to not even start working on it, it WILL NEVER BE FINISHED, BECAUSE IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE. If they knew how, I would have been flying my Crucible in 2017-8 (at worst). It's a scam guys and this reviewer said he would give an honest review; lol. So much for that crap statement!
Edit: Several years after Concept release, some pathetic work was actually attempted on the Crucible, but years after that, the work was stated (by CIG) to be scrapped. So net development is zero.

    • @Pappy_1775
      @Pappy_1775 Год назад

@@darthschumy There are over 150 flyable ships in the game with 37 still in concept, That is over 75% of the scams you are talking about already in the game. What did CIG do to you to damage you so badly? Go play Fortnite, RUST, or Elite Dangerous, they are more your type of games. Leave us, "citizens", alone.

This ship is maybe the sole reason that I want Star Citizen and want to to be finished. I even dreamt of such a ship once I was a kid and just was drawing those things.
In my opinion, the Crucibles spectrum could be even wider with its scarab docking and undocking possibilties. There should be different Scarab Modules be available!
    1.) Science / Exploration
This ship could be easily a science or planet exploration ship, if the Scarab Module for example would be an outpost module, where instead of a large repair area, it would be more of an outpost design. The inner parts of the foldable roofs could be solar panels, that can collect solar energy when folded out.
Some part can still be a repair area for the several exploration vehicles deployed.
2.) Commando / LCVP (Landing Craft) for Planetary Warfare
This would not need much modifications from the original Scarab module, if safe landing is possible. If its in a warzone, the Crucible would need stronger shields, so it can get to the warzone without getting destroyed.
If this is even to dangerous, some could go a more paratrooper method. Detach the Scarab when in orbit, and then make a HALO approach to the surface.. Fast descent, late deceleration with thrusters.. Then landing craft deployment of the vehicles and soldiers.. Some turrets on the Scarab could give some support for the soldiers.. It will be the base station..
The thrusters of this warfare scarab module, altough very simple, later can get the scarab into orbit again to dock again with the Crucible.
3.) Commando for Space Warfare - LCVP Scarab "Codename Barnacle"
The Scarab is filled with modified landing pods who are shot outside the front of the ship. With high speed they are shot towards big space battlecruisers. With hundreds of those pods who are called barnacle, the weapons of the big ships are somewhat overwhelmed because they are used to a few dozen bigger objects, not hundreds of tiny ones. The collision detection of those modules sense if they approach the starship they were shot to and attach to the hull of the ship. A laser in the inner ring of the attachment module then does its works and slowly lasers trough the ship hull, once trough, the soldiers go inside. Alternatively the projects codename "Barnacle" and "Kamikaze" are used in unison and instead of a soldier there are explosives inside.
Additional modified, so called "rogue repair drones" are deployed to "derepair" the enemy ships by detaching the weapon modules, shield systems and so on.
4.) Commando for Space Warfare - Scarab "Codename Quantum Kamikaze"
After scouts found the big starship, the Scarab with the Quantum Kamikaze module starts its Quantum Jump towards the position. In the moment milliseconds before exiting the quantum jump, the Scarab Module is detached and the Thrusters of the Crucible go to full reverse.. The momentum propels the Kamikaze Scarab towards the battle ship and explodes in a big or many little explosions.
Possibilties are endless and far more exciting that the stylish Galaxy model.

Whenever I see these in concept utility designs for tugboats, repair vehicles like the crucible, mobile refinery ships, etc. it makes me swell with pride and I can hardly wait to see what the verse will become the longer it bakes.
The sheer scope of some of the non-com ships and the ideas of a wholly or largely driven player economy with NPC sideliners, relying on the honesty of strangers in the void to not rip you off for fuel, or fighting the pressure they apply to you to spend just a few UEC more while you're desperate for repairs when there's not a station so readily on the horizon in the frontier systems. This is the experience I always wanted from SC- and we've all waited a long time for it, don't get me wrong.
Whenever we see more of this work come to fruition the more obvious it is to me just how intensive this labour of love is for CIG, but we must never forget the patience and willing and fiery passion of the player base.
A wonderful video, softly narrated and enjoyed over an ice cold drink on an otherwise muggy evening. Readily earned my sub, and look forward to more in future.

I can easily imagine an Org that operates this ship, loading it up repair bay with Marai Furys, flying out to a mission site, launching the fighters to patrol as they do their work. Potentially having a reclamer and a couple vultures to strip downed pirate vessels for materials, a caterpillar set up as a refinery/factory to make/refurbish components from salvaged ships.

This ship has a future, we wish it could be released in production soon because nothing prevents in the current game a real repair gameplay to benefit during a Xenothreat event, we should not wait for Pyro to see it released.... And it should be released even before the Banu, at the same time as the Kraken and the Idris...
Very nice presentation, clear and well documented, congratulations for this expert achievement 🤓!

This ship has no future because in it's past eight years, since release, zero actual work has been completed. Yep zero, in a staggering eight years, after taking everyone's huge payment. There's a word for that: scam! There is no plan date to start work on it either. The significance of that should tell you one simple fact: they don't know how to do it and/or it's not possible to complete. If they could actually build it, like say the small fighters they finish all the time, then not only would it have a future, it would also already have a past. We'd both be flying it already, but instead we have eight years where they've done nothing with no plans to start. How long do you need to realize you've been scammed? lol

One of the ships I was most happy to acquire, I had already acquired the Vulcan. I was also thinking with me going down the salvage route as well technically it could do salvage as well as it will have the tool set to remove parts from ships.
You could salvage a few ships taking off weapons with the long arms and use the scarab to store any components you remove or if you are salvaging smaller vessels you could maybe scoop them up and work on them in the scarab in your own time and move the ship somewhere safe like a base or closer to a safe location.
I really liked your breakdown of the Crucible and what it could look like with a new design to reflect the current Anvil design language. If it does increase in size I will be thrilled.

Its scarab module does need to grow in size. The original concept does not have any room for small landing mistakes (unless there is a tractor beam for ships with damaged RCS thrusters) and with a low roof, very claustrophobic feeling indeed.
Maybe I'm just too spoiled with massive Star Wars hangar bays on capital ships, but come on... We're in space. Why so are ships that houses ships and other vehicles so cramped.

I am enjoying each of the Shipyard videos. The Crucible definitely looks like end game for its loop. I’m not huge on medical gameplay, but given the recent Endeavor video and the theme of fixing things, a video on the Apollos which fix people would be cool.

  • @lystic9392
    @lystic9392 10 месяцев назад

Man if it can repair size 3 in the Scarab it would be able to basically repair all fighters using the Scarab. Which feels fitting. But that would be a big deal. I bet the repair arms can repair much faster than the drones, given what you mention about the limited amount of material that a repair drone can likely carry, and it looks to me like the repair arms are 'bigger' than the repair bits of a repair drone, but we'll see.
I was always interested in this ship, but this video really made me consider its potential.

considering CIG already said they were axing the freelancer's fully rotating engines, which were shown in a promotional CG video.

To me the Crucible is intended for civilian industrial operations with it's biggest advantage being its flexibility.... (as you've outlined)
Which raises the question what would a military repair ship be like? or to put it another way; how will something like the Vulcan be better than the Crucible?
To me the Crucible would be flexible but slow, slow moving and slow to repair. where as something like the Vulcan being a military repair ship moves and repairs far faster but only repairs large ships, anything smaller than the Vulcan is expected to be towed to a carrier and repaired there and of course the Vulcan doesn't have the detachable bay.

In ships that door is not called "drive on, drive off" but RORO=Roll on/Roll off.
    It's a fixed terminology.

I wouldn't mind you talking about the Hull-c next. For example how do you think they're going to handle docking with a full load in the Hull-c? Do you think they're just going to have us in an enclosed docking station or do you think we're going to be on the side of the station just sticking out so anyone that wants to grief us can just ram us while we're trying to sell our stock. Also have you heard anything if we can have Billboards on the side of our Hull-c because I really want that. LOL
Thanks and keep up the awesome work that you're doing, it's very appreciated.

The repair game loop I can see be tied the with current salvaging loop because I can see the crucible working along side a vulture picking up material or buying material from a reclaimer. Since I love salvaging I would love to work with repair ship captains and selling my goods to them rather than a faceless entity

Damn, you sold me on this and had to reconstruct my fleet! Showing off it's capabilities for a visual person such as myself, made this into a personal essential ship to own. By the way, Predator Mounts FTW!

I would like to see a variant of the crucible, where it could have two repair bays, one on the front and on the rear, since the bridge can spin in either direction.

I've always lobbied for 100% size increase, but I'd be quite satisfied w/ 150m. The Crucible reveal in Nov 2015 got me into SC, and remains one of my top 3 most anticipated ships (w/ the Endeavor & BMM)

Honestly I hope the crucible keeps the smaller scarab and doesn’t grow to 150m. If I’m repairing larger ships I want be be nimble while moving along the outside. This also leaves room for a larger repair ship that has larger internal bays but doesn’t do the external repairing that the crucible does.
