Same impression, a way to make Special models ever more special, knowing to be discovered and discussed on the internet. The colours look sick though...
These are either parts bin bikes using pieces from models that were originally slated for export or they are completed export bikes that they can’t export for whatever reason, so they are selling them here. Its the pandemic, tariffs, and low international market demand that made them sell these colors here.
I bought a road king special in black jack metallic, but I didn’t know the paint was anything special until I met a random guy yesterday that told me. The dealer didn’t even tell me
Adding a little excitement to the roll out ! Harkens back to the days of “you get what you get” exclusivity and demand higher than supply. Would be nice to be able to special order the different paints and accessories. Glad to see harley re focusing on the base , traditional buyer, (people say Harley buyers are dying off, but everyone gets older, so there is always a new supply of buyers ) however I hope they don’t totally stop with the new bikes , electrics, adv, and maybe a retro 40’s and 50’s style with an 883. , and keep trying new things. Thanks for the great info, Matt!
I think they have some tricks up there sleeve, took alot of flack last couple years, sales, etc, people will find out in the next few years, why they are the only bike maker to sustain themselves, through ups and downs, for 118 years, while some that could only wish to be harley, were the ones criticizing them.
Really enjoy your vids Matt...so much information coupled with a smooth delivery. You would think that the mothership would do some type of "bonus" system for the dealers by sending them a "mystery, golden goose" one of a kind bike if the dealership reaches a certain sales milestone for the year. Nothing outlandish, but just maybe like you say a paint scheme that is typically not offered on a certain model or different accessories. If not this, I hope that "they" do offer promotions for you guys as a dealer. Thanks for keeping us posted on the new info.
I know for a fact there's a Billiard Red Heritage Softail. I saw it in person at a dealer. But yeah, thank you so much for making this video!!!! I was waiting for someone to acknowledge this! I realized something was up almost immediately, because I couldn't find the freaking awesome Street Glide Special in the Deadwood Green Denim, which is featured so prominently on the HD site. Then I started to notice other discrepancies. Gotta say again, really awesome colors this year!
My theory is that this is part of Harley’s “Enthusiast” business plan. Kinda like having a “secret” menu that only true enthusiasts know about. It makes things exciting, and makes people want to check the dealers for the “hidden” things that Harley is coming out with, but not advertising to the general public. I like it! BTW Matt, I was able to find the SGS in Deadwood Green Denim (I did call you guys first though as I really wanted to work with your team), and will be getting it next weekend!
Thanks for trying to business with me. Congrats on the bike. That color looks dope. I can always try to trade for it next time if I don’t have a certain color.
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks! I know you tried your best. Would have liked to ride up to your store just to visit. Actually, I think I’ll ride up anyway one day!
As others have pointed out, these colours are international colours. All bike/colour combos you mentioned are available in Australia. So if you want to see the Sportster in Billiard Red go to the Harley Davidson Australia website.
I have seen the street glide special in the deadwood denim and my wife is in love. I am working on purchasing it in that color this weekend Edit: we went and got it, we pick it up next Thursday
These exist but now gone: Billiard Red in a Heritage and Iron 1200. Snake Venom in a Sport Glide and Road King. Deadwood Green/Vivid Black in a Ultra Limited. Your video confirms the rest.....Happy Hunting!!
Hi Matt, Those colour/model combinations on the tourers are all available on the UK H-D website. Presumably the colours you mention are either production anomalies or maybe the US website is mistakenly not showing them. Sadly, we don’t have the Sportster in the 2021 lineup in the UK, but a red one would look really nice!
we grabbed a RKS with that color...It's pretty sick! From a distance looks black...In the light it has a purple hue/tint and in the shadows a charcoal dark grey. In some light it even has a brownish redish vibe...really cool color!
What Cam you run in your Glide? I may have missed it, but I think you ought to do a vlog on Cams for a Road Glide....different and best Cams for the bike and why. You know they have a 660 Cam out there that’s not a great fit for every set up. Some guys think that big number means biggest, baddest cam and everyone needs it. 475 Cam, some might think is a smaller lesser of a cam. Helps guys spend their money wisely, getting the set up they choose to have. No regrets after the spend.
Great video. After the initial launch the sport glide was featured on their website in a dark green metallic color with the “1” painted on the quick detach bags. That was the color it showed up as when selecting your model, then after selecting it it obviously wasn’t a color option. Made me raise an eyebrow. It has since been changed on their site. Looking forward to your 21 sport glide full review video! Keep the great content coming, it’s appreciated
So it looks like they are trickle releasing “accidentally” some international color combos on domestic rides and sending them out. Good play. I love the Black Jack FLHRXS. Matt, I will pop over to Palm Beach H-D and Alligator Alley H-D today to see if there are any other rogues. I will report back here.
Hi Matt The Black Jack Metallic is available in Europe and by the way in Switzerland there is also a 2021 Breakout in different colors available, for example in Midnight Crimson...
The rogue colors is really cool, whether a mistake or not. It makes it interesting that only a few of these colors are sprinkled around to dealerships. They should do that every year with random colors, they'll sell fast.
The Deadwood green denim on the street glide special is available on Harley’s Brazilian website. Maybe is a colour available only in certain countries.
We have Black Jack available in South Africa on the Roadking Special. Maybe some bikes supposed to be sent to EMEA landed with a few dealerships in the US?
Great video as usual Matt. The Brazil HD website (where I live) has the Road King Special in the 4th color, the BlackJack Metallic which means that maybe some and not all markets will be getting those rogue colors
Considering they shutdown part of the year, supplier issues, product and shipment delays, leftover/unused paints, and new leadership changing or shaking up production and design, yeah, kinda makes sense things are messed up. I like the idea though. They should do "surprise" colors every year that just appear at random dealers. Would make for interesting bar talk.
It’s a smart move from Jochen Zeitz to do this. By virtue of not knowing if you will see this color bike again....the goal may be to provoke more immediate buying decisions which generates more revenue for the Motor Co....which in my opinion is a smart move on there part.
the one with the missing colors on the homepage is a mistake from the harley. All the colors you got are available for all models for the whole of 2021! nobody has to hurry to buy ... There is no „Rogue“ Color. And by the way there are more errors on the homepage, the gas cap was missing on the touring models and some more. the company does mistakes too, and in the last time a little bit to much.
I wonder how many 2021 Road Glide Limited was Painted in River Rock Gray n Black Denim bought that color back in November 2021 instead of waiting on the 22 colors to come out. That color surely isn't for everyone but for me it is and surely for others who bought it, I didnt want a flashy show piece bike this time, just something that blends in well with all the colors and this fits the bill for me
Hey Matt, I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed but along with the cable clutch, HD also moved the wiring of the hand controls to the outside of the handle bars !
I think these Rogue colours are a great marketing idea that add a sense of rarity & exclusivity, I hope they continue to do it but in very limited numbers of course.
Hey Matt, Taylor here from Clare's H-D up in Niagara Falls, Canada. I got in a Rogue Deadwood Green Denim Street Glide Special. Definitely a kick-ass colour. Will keep my eyes peeled for others. I was lucky enough to get all 3 specials in Snake Venom. Awaiting those arrivals hopefully by the end of Feb.
I own a 2021 Ultra-Limited (FLHTK) in Deadwood Green/Vivid Black (gloss paint). Deadwood Green and Black is a color NOT offered on the US website, but was on HD Asia website. I love it and get plenty of compliments!
Hey Matt, have you heard any info on the enthusiasts collection? I noticed in the release video while the CEO is talking it shows a close up of a touring fuel tank painted blue on top and black denim on bottom with a white pinstripe separating them just like a 1969 FL OEM paint scheme. Then at the very end of the video there is a close up of the console I believe is the same bike that has "Revival" on the console insert. I used to work at a dealer for 20 years, and my buddies that are there still have not heard anything about it. Just wondering, thanks!
It seems the mystery colors are only available for the EU market. I've checked on these H-D websites: Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, and UK. By contrast H-D killed the Sportster line in EU. By the way, great content Matt! Many thanks also to all members of the Laidlaw team.
The road King special is definitely available in the black jack metallic, the road glide special in river rock grey demin and the street glide in the dead wood green demin on the UK site as looking at them now as I type this.
Great review again Matt, its strange that there are no "Snake venom" painted bikes available either, and the dilemma we have down here in Australia is that only the "specials" are available to buy here ! I basically through research and looking at your videos decided to get the 2021 Road King Standard, but HD Australia are only bringing the Road King Special here !!! ...likewise with the Road Glide , only the "special" available...... dilemma now is RK Special or RG Special ... I wish you would do a back to back of those two 2021 models, but look forward to the 2021 RK Special you are about to do. ( Could you just advise if you have the time, is the RK Special rear suspension the same as the RK Special ? , I know from your videos the RK Special has only a small amount of travel compared to the standard RK)
Matt, All these "rogue" colors are regularly available on International Markets. If you look at H-D website of any other different country than the USA, you'll be able to see them Black Jack Metallic on RK Special Deadwood Green Denim on the SG Special River Rock Gray Denim on the RG Special Snake Venom on the Sport Glide They are all available internationally as a regular option, my guess is that the US website probably wasn't updated to include these colors as they may have been a "last minute" decision. Normally, what happens is the exact opposite: The US domestic market have all the colors available while Intl. mkts have only a few options. if you want a picture of the Billiard Red Iron 1200, I have it on my blog (drdanmorel.wordpress.com/2021/01/05/linha-harley-2021-primeiras-motocicletas-nas-lojas-antes-do-lancamento/) it's in Portuguese, but I'm sure you can google translate.
Hi matt All five colors are avalable in australia as to when they will be released here im unsure my chrome street glide special in guantlet grey / black is still 8 weeks away from arriving . but as far as i can see on harley australias web site there avalable to order
I'm going to pick up my Road King Special in the Black Jack tomorrow!! I did some research and I found out the Black Jack color is offered in the International market as a color choice, so maybe HD did just a few for us in the USA!
Holy Orange Peel on that one bike's fender. however some of the colors sneaking out in rogue colors is one way to create some excitement. still I want to know what the HD Revival will be So the big question is, will dealers charge more for these colors?
Matt, if you look at Available colors chart that came with the paint samples, it is different with what is on H-Dnet now, I'm guessing you ordered these bikes last fall and now HD has changed the available colors. I still have the old color chart and they are all on it.
Maybe HD is experimenting to see how well these bikes sell in colors not previously specified to get a heads up on the next year. Personally the only green bike I'd consider other than the snake bite is the denim green .
Wow that road king special. 😍. Now that is a beautiful looking bike. That colour pops as well! They missed a trick with not rolling that colour out to the masses.
I don’t think these ‘rogue’ colours were mistakes given how much trouble Harley goes to in the making of these bikes. Some of the hues coming of the dark reflective colours, like the purple, black are breathtaking.
Hey Matt, Sport Glide on the website shows it in snake venom when you click the "compare" option and compare it to another bike. Only place I've seen a snake venom SG. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new bike, but think I may wait now. Have you seen this or heard of them releasing the SG in snake venom?
The blackjack with chopped engine guard is beautiful. My guess is they probably want to get people to go to the dealerships more, I have to go to my local dealers often because I'm lucky enough to live 20 minutes away from four of them and they have fun events. But I could totally see selling the rare colors to the Harley crowd in person. But knowing Harley's website it probably just wasn't updated yet lol
Hey Matt, love your video as always. Looking forward to you doing a 21 RGS in Chrome. I noticed the SGS in UK is available in Deadwood Green Denim and got me wondering if this is the bike in the promo stuff? RKS is available here in Black Jack Metallic. So maybe some models have leaked into US market that were not originally intended? Although I like the 'finding a secret toy!'
Over the years, the one thing that has not changed at Harley Davidson is their absolute dedication to inconsistency.
That blacked out Road King is probably the coolest thing that I have ever seen in my entire life.
Maybe they’re doing it as a marketing ploy???? Kind of like finding the secret toy in the cereal box as a kid. Lol
I think you're correct...trying to get folks in the showroom
Same impression, a way to make Special models ever more special, knowing to be discovered and discussed on the internet. The colours look sick though...
Could be testing the waters too and if those colors are big hit on those bikes, release them later.
These are either parts bin bikes using pieces from models that were originally slated for export or they are completed export bikes that they can’t export for whatever reason, so they are selling them here. Its the pandemic, tariffs, and low international market demand that made them sell these colors here.
I have one of these new toys. Ultra limited in Deadwood Green and Vivid Black. Love it.
Man, that Road King Special in BlackJack looks hot!
I was able to find one here in Georgia. I now own it 😀
Yep. Saw one at my local dealership yesterday and bought it. Road King Special in Black Jack Metallic. 👍👍
I bought a road king special in black jack metallic, but I didn’t know the paint was anything special until I met a random guy yesterday that told me. The dealer didn’t even tell me
@@My.name.goes.here. It’s my FAVORITE when the dealer doesn’t know their own damn product.
That’s a pretty cool marketing tactic. Definitely makes the special even more special

Yea, I think it’s cool too.
That’s my take too
I really hope the road king special in black jack metallic stays in low production numbers being as I own one lol.

just like on the US homepage

Agreed.
Something really classic about it.
Biggest difference between the Road Kings is one of them looks like the bike your grandpa owned and the other looks like a bike built in 2021.

Road King Special available in Black Jack Metallic on the Australian website. But then we've always been a bit different lol
Perhaps the workers at Harley's paint department are smoking the good stuff :-))
Yes I have a billiard red at my shop.
Police get a sidecar option
Any chance the general public can order it anytime soon?
so glad I was able to pick up my 21 RKS in Blackjack Metalic. loved how it looked on the heritage, but finding it on a RKS I just had to have it.
I got a Black Jack metallic a few weeks ago! This explains why I couldn’t find that paint scheme online. Great content!
Thank you! Congrats on the rogue color.
I noticed this too! We got a river rock gray denim/ FLTRXS
21 heritage comes in a billiards red and it’s not on the website but was able it find two of them in the Midwest for a customer of mine
I have seen an Ultra Limited in a two tone Deadwood Green/Black in gloss paint.
Yea, people are pointing this one out. I missed it in the video. Thanks for the comment.
Theres a softail standard with street bob paint job at Kingston Harley in Ontario.
This is an obvious marketing move. Good job H-D!
