    Your Glacier content is the gold standard. Nobody else should bother making anything about Glacier, there just isn’t a a point in it. I know it’s in large part because you know it so well, but your style and coverage would be very welcome for other parks as well. I know you’ve covered some others to some degree, like in Utah, but not many to the Glacier standard. Then again, you’ve set an awfully high bar.

      Thanks - it's nice to hear the work is appreciated. 35 days of shooting helped make this a great video- about the same for the Utah Parks tour. I spent several months each writing and editing the Glacier, New Mexico and Utah. While I'm doing that I'm not working for people who pay me- I'm a professional video producer on real productions not one man band stuff like this.
      I would love to get paid to do videos like this in more places but without a sponsor they are just too expensive. $200-$500 a day to stay in a popular National Park. BTW- as of Oct 2022 it is now illegal to post video shot in National Parks without a filming permit! In Glacier the permit starts at $225. Yellowstone is $400ish and they take several weeks or months to get. I'm thinking about doing a Canadian Rockies video. Its quite nice and no permit required but still expensive.

    Great video - as always! I was hoping to get help on the follow topic, given lodging info can be difficult to come by when any date range you plug in is taken: what are the peak season (ex. 1 week in August) rates for staying at the different lodges/hotels throughout the park? For example, would I be looking at $2,100 ($300/night) at Many Glacier Hotel? and for other lodges/hotels too. Thanks for any help.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  7 месяцев назад

      Peak season is everyday the Sun road is open. Plan way in advance and be lucky. $300 a night if your lucky most rooms are more. that’s why i like swift current motor in. or cabins. check the web site for prices. and try to get cancellations

    Pepper spray. I have a question. If you stay in the lodge inside the park, do you still need daily permits to drive inside the park?

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching the while thing! I hope you enjoyed it! You ask a tricky question with an answer you're not going to like. You hotel res only allows you to drive into the area of the park near your hotel.
      You if you're staying in Many Glacier you can't drive the sun road from Apgar to get there between 6am and 3pm. This doesn't seem fair but...
      I don't know when you're going but these rules change from year to year.
      This link explains.-
      the info you're looking for is about 2/3 down.

      The Red Bus Tours include a driver guide. And Ranger led hikes are good because Rangers are the best guides. You can hire a private guide.

      I worked at the Village Inn in 2019 and it gets crazy busy close to July 4th. Parking can be a chore and tourists will crowd in front of the Hotel viewing the lake. They may have changed things since then but you may want to ask in advance.

      Managed to hike around 300 miles in 2019 while I was working there from early May to late September.....great hiking and lots of wildlife....

    I once got caught in a large group stopped on the trail. A bear was around a bend ahead (a ranger was around the bend also). At one point the bear poked her nose around the bend. Several people pulled out bear spray. I'm thinking, "Whoa? What are they thinking? Are they going to spray everyone in the group or are they going to be heroes and run ahead of the group? Idiots! I moved to safety AWAY from the group.

    Hi- Great video as always. I am going to Glacier mid to late September. Lodging in the park seems hard to get Do you have any suggestions outside of the park? We also plan on doing the Grinnell and Highline trails and looking for lots of wildlife. Thanks

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and the comment! In the video I show a place called the Mini Golden Motel in Hungry Horse. I like it and there is a segment on it in my Lodging video. Ewan McGreggor stayed there too. Re wildlife- Glacier is not like Yellowstone the animals are not everywhere. The only reliable place to see some is Fishercap Lake, where the moose tend to be every late afternoon or early evening. The viewing scopes at Swiftcurrent are good too but wildlife is far away. I've seen Goats and Big Horn on most of me trips to the park near Logan Pass and on the slopes above Swiftcurrent motor inn. Bears are rarer sites, on some of my trips I didn't see one. I think I've only seen a Grizz 3 or 4 times in 19 trips. Expectation mgt.

    HI I need a little help. This video is amazing! I am trying to determine the last possible stop, driving from West to East, where I can park (and catch a shuttle for the rest of the way) BEFORE I get to the areas that have no guardrail or brick blocks as I cannot drive next to the open road where there is nothing but a drop-off. Thanks for anybody's help!

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  6 месяцев назад

      There’s drop offs on all the steep part. Have u subscribed? take a shuttle at the loop- or just take a red bus tour.

    • @fordhamvid

      Where is the first “ steep part” without a guard rail of some sort so I can plan on getting on at a shuttle stop before that. I see a lot of steep drop offs with those big rock blocks and then some without them.
