I got first new in usa it looked better than most consoles and very smooth gameplay .I got it in Japan town in SF great system .y last console before PC to over world for adult gaming
this game will always have a special place on my heart, it's so good in everything, graphics, music, sounds, gameplay, definitely one of my top 10 games of all time
With the upcoming release of the TG16 Mini, it seemed only right to pay tribute to one of the true classics of old-school platformers. Bonk is a real class-act.
@@thecowboy2 A lot of them are on there, but iirc Konami didn't obtain the rights from all of the original publishers to be able to include everything. It has a lot of Konami, Namco, and Hudson's stuff on it, but it looks like it's missing stuff like any licensed games (cartoons and whatever), ports of anything from Capcom and Data East, the sports games, and there are a few other really weird omissions - I have no idea why they would leave out Ordyne, Devil's Crush, Bonk 3, or Super Star Soldier. It's only got a very few CD games on it, too. I wish they were including Ys III and Gate of Thunder, but Ys 1+2 and Lords of Thunder are both incredible. It's a solid lineup, but it has some big holes in it.
@Loafy I don't think they're that badly priced. I mean, you get a piece of dedicated hardware that plays several dozen classic games for what you'd pay for a game and a half on a current console. The amount of game time you'd get out of that, even if you only played half of them, is unreal for the price. The mini is also a tiny fraction of what you'd have to spend to play all of them with original hardware.
The TG-16 was always kind of a mystery to me as a kid. I never knew anyone who owned one, and the only store that carried it and its games were Toys R Us. It basically felt like Genesis and Super Nintendo were all that there was. Still, was always interested in the system, and am happy its legacy has stayed alive over the years so that myself and others can discover it.
My brother works at TNT Fireworks and their logo was a devil that looked exactly like Bonk. The copyright said RED, like the company that made Bonk so in fact Bonk is just a cheap fireworks mascot made into a caveman for a videogame.
bonk was a dream to us turbo owner weirdos this was our answer to mario keep in mind this predates segas sonic who stole many ideas off bonk i believe bonk was the only million seller for turbo bonks 2 was even better and is the best bonk
I used to purposely go slow when I got to the bosses chamber because I loved both the build up music and the music that played during the boss fights. So I will take my time coming off the elevator and time the entrance of the boss to the change between the two songs.
"Hey, Puppet Pal Clem! Can you guess what my favorite video game is?" "Uh, I dunno Puppet Pal Mitch, whats your favorite video game?" "Why its... *whacks head* BONK's Adventure!"
I loved both Bonk games but especially Bonk’s Adventure it was so much fun to play. I’d be over my grandma’s house playing it with my cousin we’d trade levels but neither one of us ever beat it. Still though as challenging as the game was it was never frustrating to play I always had fun and never got bored or even angry playing it. It was a blast both of them were a blast to play.
It was rare bc it was expensive to buy i got mine off a friend who was selling it and had no interest in gaming I played the hell out of bonks games completed them all fun times
Well, you can do what I did and get it again. Got a PC Engine Duo R that's been RGB modded and able to play all regions. They're reasonably priced and many Japanese versions of the games aren't too pricey. Doesn't have to be a pipe dream is what I'm saying.
This was my first truly owned system and game (I asked for this). Such nostalgia. The NES and SNES were systems my brother asked for. But I wanted the TG-16 due to the large joystick pad it had. I played this game nearly everyday. I never got to the every end, but it was a joy to figure out how to use Bonks. The TG-16 I have now play the games too slow. Something is wrong with it. I still play it, but it's not the same. Maybe because it needs to be used on an ol' tube tv and not the HD flat screen. 🤷♀️
My dad got me a new turbografx16 in '89 or 90. I didn't appreciate it at first. I wanted a sega genesis. However I ended up with this Bonks game and really liked it. It was a good purchase. I was 8 or 9.
I randomly rediscovered this game when I saw it on the Spriters Resource. It's been so long since I've last played this game I completely forgot about it for years until now. I was only like, 4 or 5 years old when I began playing it on my Wii. The dinosaur part at the beginning where you go into his stomach really jogged my memory. Thought I'd never see this game again lol
I had a TG-16 and I won this game many times. It really deserves to be a classic, it's too bad the TG-16 was poorly marketed here in the States, not to mention third party developers who were scared away. To me Bonk's should have been every much the mascot for the TG-16 what Mario is to Nintendo, Sonic is to Sega and Crash Bandicoot is to the PlayStation.
5:00 So, here's what I think is happening. Our titular hero has entered into the mouth of a dinosaur and at exactly 5:15, we see our hero head butting his way out of... what appears to be... blocks of crap. Once cleared, Bonk drops out of the back of the dinosaur and into a skull shaped elevator? I think it's the dinosaur's toilet. Within the toilet, we have the disposed, half-hatched offspring of said dinosaur, who appears a bit "slow". After defeating the infant dinosaur, the infant dinosaur thanks bonk for helping him escape... his parent's toilet after having been discarded, i'm guessing. ahh, the 90's.
jeez i have a higher score than you at the end, but you got like 15 more lives than me... i just need like 2 lives at the final boss to finally beat this darn game
so this is basically, caveman kid but not Flintstone style, made by Japanese also that character animation, way earlier before Metal Slug but still as funny as Metal Slug had
It was Turbo Graffix-16's attempt at a console mascot. Compared to SNES's Super Mario World which is basically a legendary game, it didn't really measure up.
I remember really enjoying Bonk (never had a TG-16, had Genesis but a friend let me borrow his TG Express to play it) but I gotta say, the graphics were underwhelming, really doesn't look much better than a late era 8 bit Nintendo game.
Oh, I love this game! I first heard of Bonk and the TurboGrafx-16 thanks to the original Wii's Virtual Console service, and I have since fallen in love with the wacky art style and expressive sprites that feel like a playable anime cartoon. I adore this classic, from Bonk's prehistoric world to its music to its general absurdity, Bonk's Adventure is a 16-bit favorite.
I looked for this because I really enjoyed Tempo for the 32X and Super Tempo for the Saturn. As a fan of Red Company's quirkiness I had to check out Bonk's Adventure.
God this takes me back my grandpa got this for me at a garage sale when I was 7 and loved the hell out of it ah nostalgia
Such an underrated unit the TG-16 was here in America NC. So many top-notch titles that should've received the attention it deserved.

@Chase Wiley I think so. The system had a lot of great games.
@Chase Wiley That one's great, but I don't think they're planning on translating it. It's going to be the original Japanese game.
From what I heard, all of the US games will be on the TG16 Mini as well as a few Japanese exclusives as well.
@@thecowboy2 A lot of them are on there, but iirc Konami didn't obtain the rights from all of the original publishers to be able to include everything. I'm sitting here with my 6 month old baby watching what appears to be a 6 month old baby bonk his head into a dancing Cactus.

kids who were first to 16bit when ot came out it was amazing cd rom years before anyone else
My brother works at TNT Fireworks and their logo was a devil that looked exactly like Bonk. The copyright said RED, like the company that made Bonk so in fact Bonk is just a cheap fireworks mascot made into a caveman for a videogame.
Yes it was a hidden gem
I finally get why his name is Bonk. Lil dude just comes through and starts bonking his head on everything. Love this game
bonk was a dream to us turbo owner weirdos this was our answer to mario keep in mind this predates segas sonic who stole many ideas off bonk i believe bonk was the only million seller for turbo bonks 2 was even better and is the best bonk
:) Takes me back to my childhood. Only got to play this a few times because only 1 friend owned one of these systems but I remember loving this game.
The boss fight music and bonk getting rage was what stuck to me and the ending music when you beat the big dragon boss
I used to purposely go slow when I got to the bosses chamber because I loved both the build up music and the music that played during the boss fights. So I will take my time coming off the elevator and time the entrance of the boss to the change between the two songs.
I played this a lot as a sick kid but could not remember the name. Thank you so much for uploading this, you are amazing.
This is so special to me I loved the bonks games, I remember every play , each sound effect and song!! this is the coolest thanks!! 😊
I can't be the only one who thinks of Calvin from _Calvin and Hobbes_ whenever Bonk's power up animation plays.
"Hey, Puppet Pal Clem! Can you guess what my favorite video game is?"
"Uh, I dunno Puppet Pal Mitch, whats your favorite video game?"
"Why its... *whacks head* BONK's Adventure!"
The cactus creatures actually look like they’re trying to stick it to you with the middle thorn, right on top of their limbs.
Such an awesome game with incredible, big sprites. GG Alex. 🤘
I loved both Bonk games but especially Bonk’s Adventure it was so much fun to play. I’d be over my grandma’s house playing it with my cousin we’d trade levels but neither one of us ever beat it. Damn....i had this. Throwback indeed. I dont think i knew anyone with this system
It was rare bc it was expensive to buy i got mine off a friend who was selling it and had no interest in gaming I played the hell out of bonks games completed them all fun times
This is the first time in actually seeing gameplay from Bonk. I used to see the advertisements on comic books.
The best game and game-music ever!
Damn this games music slaps
Damn I remember playing this game when i was 6 or 7. I miss my TG-16. I had a bunch of good games on it.

Love the ending, makes you smile.
Feels like yesterday I was playing this in my room. Great game!
My dad got me a new turbografx16 in '89 or 90. I didn't appreciate it at first. I wanted a sega genesis. However I ended up with this Bonks game and really liked it. It was a good purchase. I was 8 or 9.

Ahhh man... this is nostalgia. when i had no care in the world ..lol.. Good Ol days.
Saw an FB short that this game was super rare so I went to find gameplay…and here I am. Time well spent. 😂
My first game ever on the TurboGrafx back in 1990. And I still have it in my PS3 digital library. I wish Sony allowed me to access it on the PS5.
In a parallel universe, this was the big 16 bit mascot to compete with Mario and nobody remembers Sonic.
I had a TG-16 and I won this game many times. It really deserves to be a classic, it's too bad the TG-16 was poorly marketed here in the States, not to mention third party developers who were scared away. This game was such a fun game
I'm feelin this music tho
PC Engine Master Race!
I loved my TG16
this game is so frustated in my opinion like battletoads for the nes
also that final boss is more worst than bowser from super mario bros
I miss this guy. It's a shame the rights belong to Konami now. We'll never see him again unless it's for Pachinko.
I still have mine.perfect condition in storage
51:10 is so xool! Xlimbing up wat3rfalls!
Princess Za is so cute!
love the music
Awesomeness please do more thanks
They should make a collection of all the Bonk games, including the GameCube remake of Bonk’s Adventure.
5:00

in europe this game was called bc kid and it was only released on the amiga.
They should make a Bonk trilogy or NEC collection on Xbox ONE.
Is there a cheat menu or cheat codes to make this game easier?
Our captivity is ending AHAYAH has redeemed Jacob
Emojis were invented before they say they were holy shit
Released in Japan as PC Genjin: Pithecanthropus Computerus.
2:07
punchy pedro is non other than a joe yabuki homage, even when he is in his stone state.
Sorry but at the time it was up there with Mario, Sonic, and the likes. I dare say top 5 fun game to play ever.
I really need help guys I can’t beat the final boss because I don’t have enough lives does anyone know where I can find I guide to get more lives
これが最強だったころの人類=ピクルか!!納得✊
Can u do Bonk’s Revenge?
Turbografx-16
É o sapão do Mário 2?
Reminds me of Adventure Island for the NES for some reason
Bonk and Master Higgins teaming up. Now that's a fun idea.
Both made by same manufacturer Hudson Soft
jeez i have a higher score than you at the end, but you got like 15 more lives than me... i just need like 2 lives at the final boss to finally beat this darn game
memories
Thanks for confirming that I indeed did not like that game
More videos keep it up
dont care what people say today bonk 1 amd sonic 1 are still the best versions the originals
so this is basically, caveman kid but not Flintstone style, made by Japanese
also that character animation, way earlier before Metal Slug but still as funny as Metal Slug had
B O N K E
My guy does not know how to juggle
Sounds like an NES game, kind of
It was Turbo Graffix-16's attempt at a console mascot. Compared to SNES's Super Mario World which is basically a legendary game, it didn't really measure up.
🌼😄
31:07 just kidding im evil four
jesus that final boss is so cheap & fast and impossible to hit
or not take damage
I remember really enjoying Bonk (never had a TG-16, had Genesis but a friend let me borrow his TG Express to play it) but I gotta say, the graphics were underwhelming, really doesn't look much better than a late era 8 bit Nintendo game.
1:03:05 Kiss!!! lol
mario and sonic kill and murder this......

ots worth buying a real tg16 to play this on original hardware
