The Kipping Escape From Mount (No-Gi BJJ)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- The Kipping Escape: BJJ traditionally teaches 2 basic pin escapes from the mounted position - the knee-elbow or hip escape (aka the shrimp) and the bump and roll (aka upa). The kipping escape is kind of a cross between them both. It has elements of a bridge to offset balance and weight like the bump-and-roll, while it uses the wedges and frames of the knee-elbow hip escape. But it is very much its own animal, and learning to use it adds tremendous depth to your escapes and counters. Especially useful in no-gi submission grappling, the kipping escape can create enough space not only to return to the guard but to start ashi garami attacks right away. Here we go through a few of the basic elements of a successful kip from the bottom of the mount.

Brian is like Bitcoin in 2016, nobody knows of him yet but he is more worth than Gold. We’re very lucky to be on his Channel. Gordon uses this kipping method even if a Crossface from a world champion is involved. Powerful technique. Thank you 🙏
lol my favorite comment :) thanks for watching
Brian is more like ethereum and john danaher bitcoin... brian is quicker than John to get to the point (just like ethereum is much faster to operate a transaction) but don't get me wrong i like bitcoin's safety and jon danaher's teaching qualities but when you don't have a full day to spend on learning a move, then brian's a very nice option. (i'm french canadien hope you understand my comment lol my english ain't so good). Oh and thank you for the video@Brian Glick
pixels worth more than gold in your opinion? i'll take the gold
@@LIONTAMER3D Knowledge is worth more than gold. Which is what those Pixels are displaying
@@shadymilkman443 did you grasp my comment? his pixels aren't worth paying for. there arw better pixels for your money. thanks for playing.
The purpose of bridge - space. The purpose of the hands and elbows - wedge. This way of describing is so helpful. Thank you!!
Glad it’s helpful - thanks for watching :)
I was thinking about joining a bjj class then watching this guy be so comfortable for such a long duration in that position… it’s a no from me champ.
I feel so bad for all of the people that don't know of you. They are missing out on some high high high level jiu jitsj knowledge. Much love, thanks for the incredible content.
Haha hey thanks 😊
Read Danaher's post about him... now I'm deep down the Brian rabbit hole. What a channel!
Hi - is this the same kipping escape Prof Danaher is teaching?
Saw Gordon do this escape on a seminar clip and literally the next day I nailed it with no reps against a powerful training partner. Love Brian Glick! His method of teaching resonates with me perfectly
Good stuff - thanks for watching :)
I’ve watched 30 seconds of this so far and I already love your teaching style.
Appreciate it - thank you 😊😊😊
Royler demonstrated that 20+ yrs ago.
What’s old is new again
I’ve always been curious about mount escapes besides the elbow escape, but never invested any time since my elbow escape is still in need of improvement. I look forward to giving this a try once Jiujitsu is legalized in my country again!
certainly worth studying :) thanks for watching
Hi, I'm a big fan of your content. It would be really great to see an anti kipping video as I don't see much on this anywhere. I've got a guy in my gym that's so good at kipping, I'm starting to question the idea of mounting him at all. I'm pretty sure I should be cross facing and perhaps threatening a punch choke or something. Not that I've ever managed to sub anyone with that. I'm interested in seeing a kipp counter vid. Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work. 🙏
Nice suggestion, thanks 😊 appreciate it!

Awesome thank you. Been trying to get this to work and the elbows being inside was a great tip. Often loose the escape due to forward pressure from my sparring partner.
Glad it helped! Elbows in is key
What is the purpose of the kipping? That is, what is the purpose of moving your feet up and down like that? Does it help move our hips away from the opponent?
Creates movement which creates space to slip the knee
@@bzglick Thank you! I was hoping you would answer my question. Yours is the best video I have found on this topic. I have been playing with this technique.
Gordon teaches this kipping escape in his instructional with a knee to tailbone connection but you don´t have a connection here. Both works? Or can you explain why you do it different?
Glick sensei- I am a 53-year-old fairly sucky bluebelt in BJJ. I am 6' and have long legs but SHITTY hip flexibility. I'm also fast like a sloth. I am in Brooklyn and really need to get into the city to come and see you. I LOVE the vids you do w/Shintaro; I'm a Sankyu in Judo at Oishi- but haven't been grabbed in anger whilst standing in like 2 years (Covid, kids, work etc. has meant ZERO Judo and very little BJJ- but I digress...)...anyway (and this is coming from at teacher): you, sir, are a NATURAL instructor (Shintaro is as well). Your stuff is pure gold, and as someone else said (paraphrasing): WOW are we lucky to have you. I will spread the word of your channel to everyone I know , because it's magic. A million thanks dude- seriously. Your content is straight-up CLASS.
Thank you very much 😊😊😊
Keeping escape are bulshidos
something about this video really irritated my wife. the kipping motion made her irrational.
Great video. Amazing instructor.
When you record your videos can you increase the audio level?
Thank you so much for sharing this one. I've been using this for quite a while but there's not really any advice on it online, and all I could find was some old competition footage of Renzo Gracie folk hitting it. This really helped me understand the point of each movement!
Glad it was helpful :) thanks for watching
@Brian, would you say kipping escape, in general, is the most efficient way to escape mount, compared to elbow escape and leg trap to half guard escape?
They work as complements to one another - depends on the situation 😊
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks for showing this Professor! Great way to go from defense to offense in a split second!
You got it :)
Professor shy ace (another gym monster from the Reno’s Gracie team) I well known for this escape coupled with the heel hook. He would actually bait people to get the mount on him so he can hit the heel hook.
That’s right - not many could do it better 💪🏼
@@bzglick OSs professor 🙏
He breaks down each piece clearly and simply.
When I practiced kipping with my partner in newbie class I would always get both knees in and rarely have to kip at all, even when he gave resistance. Is it undesirable to slip in both knees? I don't know if it's likely in the real world to get back into full guard that way
Yes it’s possible - but against resistance you’ll usually only get 1 in 👍🏼
That haircut though
one of your best videos!
thanks - appreciate it 😊
Been having some trouble with this escape. Am I supposed to contact my knee against his tailbone while kipping?
Yes - keep contact between your legs and his body as you kip 👍🏼
Nice will try it
Thank you for that information
This is the only mount escape I use now. Thank you!
Awesome 😎
Anyone have any suggestions for when you do this and the top player places their feet underneath your butt preventing you from creating space?
Train at Serras and Jason Rau told me about you and man it’s like an infinite pool of knowledge put into baby terms it’s great content
Haha I appreciate it - love those guys!! You’re in great hands 💪🏼
Great details.
Thanks!
Seems hard to hold someone in that wedge with just your arms.
It’s the frame that does the work 👍🏼
Thanks Brian. Love the escapes! Kipping from other positions?
Sometimes but this is where you'll use it the most
great stuff! Danaher said in his latest pin escapes dvd that its possible to do a no-handed kip. Do you know how that works? I never saw anyone explain it or show it and i would absolutely love it if you could :D
Would that make sense in the gi as well?
Harder in the gi because of the friction - but it can be done 👍🏼
Never works for me vs really big people :(
Combine it with your other escapes and see what happens 👍🏼
Thank you, Tony Ferguson
That’s Phoney Ferguson to you
Thanks a lot for this 🙏🏿. Does it work equaly well for gi and no-gi?
The friction with the gi makes the kip more difficult, and you need to be concerned about collar strangles, so it's best suited for no gi
@@bzglick thanks, very clear 👍🏿
Great stuff . Please stop teaching this 😂
Hahaha 🙏

Been having a lot of success with this one, thanks Brian
Great to hear :)
Dear Brian, thanks for this explanation its very clear. One question what is the actual role of the kipping motion you feel? I have been trying to understand the mechanics of the move for ages and not even danaher explains it properly. hahaha I undertsand we use the arms to frame and the bump to create space i use to think im kipping to slide my knees into the gap but from this video it seems not to be the case
😆 yes, this is true with the frame and the bump - but shifting his weight off you is also important. The person on top feels that their weight is no longer effectively pinning your hips and their legs are just barely holding on. When they go to reassert the mount, your knee is in the way...and ashi.
@@bzglick Thanks for reply. My question I guess is, what is the exact purpose the kipping motion serve? I used to think it's just to slide the knees in but I think there's a deeper purpose to that! Would really appreciate your insight
@@joshge1426 from what I gather, the kipping motion isn't necessarily to get the knees in place, but more so to move your hips down (towards the feet) in order to create the right angle to bring your knees in.
@@yellowjvcket thats interesting! thank you
How do i stop this when i have the mount?
We’ll cover maintaining the mount one day
Can someone drop their hip for a wrist lock?
No - the frame doesn’t allow it 👍🏼
@@bzglick thanks for responding
