@@TylerSpangler I think Keenan Cornelius would in a way be a better fit for you; before finding your channel I watched his video where he narrates a sequence of his rolls; it's a bit of a similar style, in that it's enormously more helpful (to me) then videos about techniques, like for example bjjfanatics. But your videos are better, because I feel in the video of Cornelius his opponents get psychologically crushed by the fact that he's narrating their demise, whereas your ones are actual rolls where the opponents are at their best. In any case it's hard to doubt you're gonna go places in the bjj instructionals world :-) Good luck!
I did this today. My coach was very surprised how much I have been growing. Ive been doing a lot of other things but he never taught me these moves so he was surprised.
These are my favorites from John Donaher's pin escapes instructional. This is gold and are extremely high percentages escapes. Seriously i've used some of these to escape purple/brown belt mount as a 3 stripe white belt
I may use him quite a bit as an inspiration 😅 for real, his techniques are great, if you can sit through it. They’re really helpful! Thanks for watching mate!
Hey Tyler, thanks for the time you gave in making this video, it's been a massive help to me! I'm 36, father of two and began my jiu jitsu journey 9 weeks ago! I'm only training one night a week ATM (hoping to increase this!!) And mount escapes are a big deal for me. I'm enjoying it and I'll roll with anyone I don't care, but I always stay humble and ask for advice after. It's a humbling martial art for sure, you're not using any of your day job strength in that place it just gets you tapped even quicker! Having videos like this where you give your time to walk us through what we need to do is priceless. Thankyou again! If you're ever in England would love a roll (I'd learn loads even though it would be a sub fest for you!) :) Keep rolling bud
God this one was perfect the music and the slow and calm details in the vids instead of way people like to coach when they want you to key on a detail they just yell and its just kills the vibe but man so calm and majestic
You do awesome videos, I find them really helpful and instructional. The fact that you're making these videos just to help people get better at jiujitsu is amazing, you're a credit to our race! Lol
awesome stuff, The go to was always to upa/ trap and roll but sometimes it's not the easiest to bridge some big guys off, these are great options. The thing I've found out after drilling is always make sure they have their hands on the ground, so always bump them with your leg on their butt to make them post. That makes the weight distribution way easier off of your hips.
The spider escape is definitely something i tried a lot early on at whitebelts but shied away from it because i wasn’t sure how technical it was but some of those extra details will definitely pull me back to it
Videos like this remind me, that even after a few years of grappling training (albeit with huge breaks), I'm still lacking in so many fundamentals. In a way its good. More low hanging fruit, I guess.
This video was exactly what I needed, Amazing work to everyone that helped make this video possible. I’m studying Jiu Jitsu so that I “hopefully” have an advantage against my friend when we roll in 3 days
Ideally if they use their hands to attack our neck, they’ve removed their posts. This will make it easy for our escapes to work. Their goal is to move my arms into a more dominant position (for them), then they can set up their attacks
Such a cool video. With the spider escape at the end tho, when you’re exciting, is it kinda like a backwards roll over your shoulder or what exactly is the movement. I watched that part over and over again but I just don’t seem to get how exactly you got out😅
6:20 this technique doesn't seem to be encouraged much, but I like the look of it. I often find myself framing up against opponents armpits apparently in a decent position (as mount positions go), but not knowing where to go from there. As I have long legs, this might suit me.
How would you do the spider escape if you're super unflexible. Also, is there any submission that can executed after the escape with the opponents leg that you escaped under from
Hard to do if you aren’t the most flexible, but kipping can work really well for those guys. You can enter a leg entanglement on the way out, but generally I’m more concerned they will want to entangle ME that I just yeet myself out of there
One method I didn't see was the arm trap and roll. As a noob white belt, I'm trying to figure out why this wasn't included? Is it a low percentage success rate compared with the others?
Always struggle when they wrap their feet underneath. Can't capture the leg, can't push them up because the are wrapped tightly around your waist. I rarely see examples of people using these escapes when they are firmly wrapped around the waist so any guidance there would be awesome. Maybe the Spider is the way to go there? Thank you!
You could try spider, but kipping is my go to from there. I told Danny (the other guy) to wrap under my hips as hard as he could, but he couldn’t do anything about the kipping.
Thank you for this information. So helpful in the angles you show. I hope I can apply some of this. Just trying to survive as a fresh white belt haha. 🙏🏽
I’m so lazy on mount escapes. I got ridiculously good at the catch and roll escape to end up in their guard. Hit it on everybody in the gym up to brown belts. I usually just buy my time until I have a opportunity to catch the post arm and bridge. That was my go to until I tried it on coach n he just vined both my ankles n ruined my dreams as usual. Needless to say I need to drill some plan B’s lol.
@@TylerSpangler that was one of the first and really only escapes I was taught by coach, with a transition into oshi. Problem is I’m not good at it yet. My legs are long and I have to move my opponent fairly high to get my knees back in. Im 6’2, 170. Strong but not Superman. If I’m mounted by someone over 200lbs. All the kipping in the world doesn’t move them. If I can’t sweep. I resort to the classic dive to regain half.
Yeah mount escapes are my weakness but I’m great at defending all subs I’m just not able to escape the mount or submit mount control is an issue for me
the kipping escape seems very tiring, I can’t move my feet like that without tiring quickly The push up works for me but not on much heavier opponents The forth one I want to try but I’m worried about my neck
It seems like you're pretty much always starting with that bump to offshift you opponent forward, right? I was having a hard time with opponents grabbing hold of my head and crushing me under their chest.
Not sure if this will work against anyone that is even slightly decent at chokes. Not having your hands to defend your neck... they'll get their hands in your collar so fast! (Or around your neck in no gi)
The camera work and just overall quality on these videos is something other BJJ channels need to learn from😂
BJJFanatics hire me!
Impressive video and music choice.
@@TylerSpangler I would definitely buy your video!

Rolled for the first time yesterday. As soon as guy got mount I realized I had no clue what to do. Thank you
Your tutorials are like gold and this is coming from one of the most elite blue belts in the world. 😎😎😜😜
Ayyyy glad to hear the most elite blue belt in the world likes my tutorials 😅thanks for watching mate

I hope you’re still training. I’d love to hear if you are. I’m 36 just started 3 weeks ago and got my boys in it as well.
0:17 hand positioning

Camera work is legendary! Cool to see the difference from the beginning to now. Good stuff

Underrated as fuck you deserve more fame for all the detail you put in this
Wow the detail breakdown on this type of video is unmatched. Subscription worthy
WOW. i love the format of the videos. labels, slow mo, slowly talking through. SOLD. you earned a like and sub!
I have to hand it to you I've watched a lot of videos on Mount escape but yours is just a little bit more detailed and I thank you for it.
Great video! Lovely videography and setup! These are all fantastic mount escapes!
Had to subscribe. You make great videos. I love how you add the yellow circle so I know where to focus my attention.
This is legendary. Period. Tyler for the W.
Glad your feeling better! Thanks for the content
Gotta power through for the viewers! Thanks for watching mate
Amazing explanation of the fundamentals man, a lot of non-affiliated gyms I go to don’t teach these crucial fundamentals
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good camera work and good technical stuff thank you .
Nice man!! Pleasure to watch your chanel grow💪 love your videos also love the slow mo while youre commenting, helps way more to understand
Glad to make these for you mate! Thanks for watching!
Usually I'm a fan of entering through the back door but I've never heard of exiting through there as well. Insightful.
Awesome job. Watching this with my son. He struggled escaping the mount in class tonight. Thanks!

Glad you liked it mate! Sometimes I want to start a boxing channel with the same effort. Not enough time in the day.
this is really good. I was never confident about the spider escape, but I didn't slide my back out like you did. Gonna try it again.
Let me know how it goes!

This is the best Jiujitsu tutorial!! You need to make on side control escape 💪🏼
This one was awesome!!! Thanks Tyler!
Another thoroughly explained video - Thanks alot!
Thank you ... best mount escapes tutorial on RUclips

Amazing video. Getting stuck in someones mount is my worst position and im always struggle to get out. Thanks a lot !

Holly Molly, the details here are 👏 👌 👍
Very helpful, thank you. Keep up the good work!
I been binge watching your videos like its netflix lol. Do you train in Gi? I see most of your videos are no gi?
Great video tyler! do you have one of these videos for side control, especially in the gi?
I’ll make one in the future! Anything to help the viewers
@@TylerSpangler Thanks bro, I appreciate you.
What’s stoping your opponent from just attacking your neck when arm are in hips?
Ideally if they use their hands to attack our neck, they’ve removed their posts. This will make it easy for our escapes to work. Their goal is to move my arms into a more dominant position (for them), then they can set up their attacks
Great as usual.

Yep you're right, it's similar to a backwards roll. The main focus is that your feet push the armpits HARD so they can't pin your legs too.
6:20 this technique doesn't seem to be encouraged much, but I like the look of it. I often find myself framing up against opponents armpits apparently in a decent position (as mount positions go), but not knowing where to go from there. As I have long legs, this might suit me.

very good man thanks for the free stuff
Oss, going to work on these tonight. Cheers dude 👍
good insight, will have to practice them, thank you
I hope they do well for ya!
Great vid dude! Gonna try these the next time I'm in a bad spot.....
Great tutorial, learnt a lot from watching this vid definitely going to try in future rolls. 👍🏽
4:10 I dont understand how the kipping motion is generating any force to allow the leg to come in. I hate this escape. 😅
this is super useful, thank you so much!!
Thanks for the detailed instructional, details matter
Gracias! This will most definitely help a ton.
I hope it does!
Great content thanks man
Very nice instruction. Thx
Great stuff
Thanks mate!
This is incredible
The spider escape ist super cool im gonna try that Out the next Training 👍
I would really like to see a video how you use them in rolls, when your opponents start in full mount and they have 40lbs+ weight advantage.
How would you do the spider escape if you're super unflexible. Also, is there any submission that can executed after the escape with the opponents leg that you escaped under from
Hard to do if you aren’t the most flexible, but kipping can work really well for those guys. You can enter a leg entanglement on the way out, but generally I’m more concerned they will want to entangle ME that I just yeet myself out of there
@@TylerSpangler cheers
Good job matey
Question. Should kipping be hard?
One method I didn't see was the arm trap and roll. As a noob white belt, I'm trying to figure out why this wasn't included? Is it a low percentage success rate compared with the others?
Trap and roll?
Definitely going to try using the spider escape

How come didn't add the umpa escape?
At least imo mount is much easier to escape than side control...could be wrong though.
I agree. You can move really easily on top in SC. Very easy to go to north south and just pin them.
Thank you for this information. So helpful in the angles you show. I hope I can apply some of this. Just trying to survive as a fresh white belt haha. 🙏🏽
What if he just takes a wider stance and sits down while you're attempting the spider escape...? Wouldn't he just land on your face?

Definitely clickbait but I'm definitely clicking
Hope it worth the click 😅
Are they not cross facing or have any grips while in Mount?
They can, but the kipping is the go to for those!
I have a problem when the opponent holds my head and stays tight and heavy. I can’t get under hooks.
Yeah mount escapes are my weakness but I’m great at defending all subs I’m just not able to escape the mount or submit mount control is an issue for me
Cool stuff but it said escape any mount and you only showed middle mount?
Great video, but I still can't pull off the kipping escape!
Love it.
the kipping escape seems very tiring, I can’t move my feet like that without tiring quickly
The push up works for me but not on much heavier opponents
The forth one I want to try but I’m worried about my neck
#3 seems best for you. Kipping may take more energy, but I would say it’s the most efficient. Takes work to get out of a bad spot like mount
what about the classic trap and roll?
The camera man/woman ❤
Thank you 👍
Spider/ scorpion escape is the king of escapes
I use a throwby as well
It seems like you're pretty much always starting with that bump to offshift you opponent forward, right? I was having a hard time with opponents grabbing hold of my head and crushing me under their chest.
Awesome need help off the bottom when someone gets me on mountain
awesome
Bravo
Ok let’s talk about it: WHY do you hate the trap and roll?😂
How did you know!??
Id like to know since its the most important and fundamental of mount escapes.
Merci beaucoup !! Je subi tellement 😊 , mais bon au jjb avant d'attaquer, il faut savoir défendre 😆
Not sure if this will work against anyone that is even slightly decent at chokes. Not having your hands to defend your neck... they'll get their hands in your collar so fast! (Or around your neck in no gi)
It looks like you're entering the back door on that spider escape, not exiting it 😂
