    Nice vid Tyler. I’ve been anticipating this one. I really like your content, especially the humorous stuff and the memes you post.
    I’m a fan of the Silver Fox Karl Pravec shallow guillotine. You may be familiar already but the grip looks like this emoji 🤌 with the throat placed in the crook of the wrist. He emphasizes keeping the shoulder forward as to never see the back of your opponent’s neck to prevent the head from popping out. It’s basically like scratching your own armpit on the same side.

    My point of confusion with the arm in guillotine is how you would be able to choke someone out with only one carotid artery compressed. If only one side of the neck is compressed, how is this an effective choke? Great video, thanks for sharing!

    Aside that would you hit those guillotines exactly the same right and left hands? As the 3rd principle of asymmetry of the human body forces to consider that point.

    Can’t wait to try this. The camera angle was key for me. You show a lot of chin strap one arm guillotines in your setups. Does the thumb stay in the same position for those as well? It looks hard to try to keep the thumb on the carotid in those positions. Does it become more of a pull up on the chin?

    • @TylerSpangler
      @TylerSpangler  3 года назад

      When I transition to one armers, I like to cup the chin for mobility, but finish with a fist in the throat (if possible). You may need to flatten your fist a bit depending on their hand fighting. If they hand fight too much, then we can go to the thumb control shown so that it is harder for them to reach. Thanks for watching mate!

    Great content. I’ll be willing to wager your channel is going to blow up soon. Question, it looks like their heads are close to popping out, is there anything you’re doing to address this type of escape?

    • @TylerSpangler
      @TylerSpangler  3 года назад +1

      Indeed the head popping out does seem likely. And it can happen if we rush or are sweaty. The answer is that it’s good if they attempt to pull out. By pulling out/popping out they stretch their neck, making it a sharper choke. The real defense is that they should shove their head down and then up towards the armpit.
      To address your question directly, I just make sure to only lean back once I know this is locked in. The other option is that we can use this to sweep. If we sweep, then we can finish on top with the same lock and their head has no where to go.

    excellent video. I have a question, is it a blood choke guillotine or is it pressure on the neck that makes them give up?

    Inter club tournament this weekend. I’ve pulled a muscle at bottom of rib cage, so will just pull guard and go for underhook then guillotine. Thanks for the details, you make great content brother.

    It's kind of similar to what Cody McKenzie was pulling off ~2008 with his McKenzietine, at least in terms of hand placement. Great breakdown!

    I train with a lot of big strong guys, it looks like it would be easy to power out of that shallow grip, but ill definitely give it a shot

    • @TylerSpangler
      @TylerSpangler  3 года назад

      Give it a shot! Try the arm in first so you can take one arm way from them. Make sure to pull up and towards the chin

    Amazing details! loving it, I am for sure going to practice this
    to get things straight, I have few questions...
    single arm is more of pressure not a choke? because I do think the other arm need to be there to help...
    normal setup is air choke?
    arm in is blood choke?
    thanks,

    • @TylerSpangler
      @TylerSpangler  3 года назад +1

      Normal setup generally goes right over the throat, so an air choke. The one arm choke feels like your triggering the gag reflex and your head is going to explode. It's horrible. The arm in helps with the blood choke, but they will tap to the gag reflex part of it first.
      Hope that helps!

      I hope it pans out well for you! That shallow grip can be really hard to address! The grip is in a really tight spot and hard to hand fight!

    Yo tyler! Thanks for all your videos, theyve been great to watch! I have a question about this technique. Ive always been taught to make sure you cant see any of the back of their head when doing the guillotine. Like you should have your armpit right over their head to prevent their head popping out, "if you can touch your shoulder on their back, thats ideal". I was wondering if you had any info why your able to be so effective while breaking that rule.
    Big props!

    I'm a purple belt. Mostly rolled in nogi. I stopped 10 yrs ago and just started back this yr. I was very successful with guillotine in nogi but find it difficult in Gi. I will watch this over and over until I understand it. Thanks for the video sir.

    I love it. How can i make this feel like an actual 100% choke rather than a half choke/half neck crank?
