Absolutely love that there’s a 4th degree world champion black belt who’s asking questions and learning a basic technique like a white belt. Bjj4life 🙏
I agree. Bernardo is such a humble dude. Seeing such an accomplished fighter seeking knowledge everywhere makes one understand that it's an endless journey and a beautiful one.
Thought the same thing. When world champions discover something for the first time gives us mere mortals hope too. Bernardo's enthusiasm with all his guests, no matter what they have to demonstrate, is inspiring and infectious. Always try to see something new in something no matter how many times you've seen it.
Our coach (Wim Deputter, BRASA Belgium) is already teaching us a similar mount escape -- it's pure gold and as Xande says, preparation is crucial. As soon as you see that you're getting mounted you need to fight to place your hand to your opponent's opposite hip, that arm's elbow close to your body and the opposite leg flat on the ground. From there you have options, but what I usually do is get to the side, "backstroke" my other arm above my head and try to post first on my elbow, getting up and reversing the position completely, so that I end up in my opponent's full guard. All the while you must not lose the connection of your arm with the opponent's hip. Since I started using it I feel more comfortable being mounted than being in someone's side control.
Just in my way to training, watching this agaun as a quick reminder but all i can think about is. "Head down, head down, head down". Hahah Great video just starting to have some success with this escape. Mount escape is a big weaknesses in my game.
Over 40 here. Saturday morning was my third class. My upper delts, traps, and neck have never been so sore and tight. Both of my collar bones are sore in a couple places. Both of my arms are (lightly) bruised. My left knee has "mat burn" (lol). My nose started bleeding (???) that night after my first class, which was a morning class. My central nervous system was so rattled from my first rolling session that my hands couldn't stop trembling. I'm hooked. (The question is: Will my body adapt quickly enough?)
@@BL0HARD -- Yes, my first time to roll was a lot of fun, but I was trying to be too physical, just like you said. I gassed myself out super quick. Lol. That was a great first experience and lesson, though.
Remember the Ju in Jujitsu, Judo and Goju ryu means gentle or yielding way. I used to muscle and force everything when I started too but once you learn some moves and formulate a game plan you have more of an idea what’s worth expelling energy to fight for. If you are bigger and stronger than some people where you train and you can win by brute force you are still doing yourself a disservice because you never really learn the magic of the art. The best guys are the small ones that have to use the art as intended and beat stronger opponents with technique and brains.
Short answer is yes, your body will adapt. The rest of the question, quickly enough, will depend. Are you willing to give it a month? 6 months? A year? Once you answer that question for yourself, what will you do if your body doesn't meet your timeline? Quit? Allow more time? The BJJ journey is life long for those who choose it. I started 4 years ago at the age of 46. I jumped in with both feet and it took my body a good year to adapt. AND, I was in the best physical condition of my life. I had just completed the SealFit 20x crucible event. I had to work through MULTIPLE injuries that sidelined me at times. This is for anyone - You absolutely have to know your 'Why'. Why are you entering into this new lifestyle? And it can't be some superficial reason. It needs to be tied to a deep intrinsic reason - an emotion even. Otherwise, you will quit. For some, quitting is okay. For me it is not. ONLY you can answer these questions for yourself! No one else on RUclips...
I used the diamond principle and connection of elbow and knee at my next BJJ class after this video. It helped a lot. I created 'dilemmas' and have myself a chance against some higher belts. Thank you for this video!
i always intuitively defend my neck when i get mounted, but it becomes a struggle for very long and i end up stalling out of tiredness, gonna try this framing next time and try to unlearn to automatically defend the neck
Lmfao at the first noobie bridge example 😂. Every time I roll with the new guys they do this and I just hover over them and they over roll and I take their back everytime
When you're at bottom mount you always open to a punch, you just pick it either you want to get punch untill sleep without doing nothing just like chris weidmann or escape while getting punched
How would you be able to implement this escape if the person on top goes for the Ezekiel choke while you're trying to push away the hips? I would think defending the neck is going to be more important... but I'm just a white belt lol. Help!
One thing you can do before initiating the technique of the video is to press your head against the mat so that the opponent will have a hard time trying to get the arm under your head. That will at least buy you some time to apply the escape technique, some opponents will even give up on Ezekiel and search for something else.

white belt mentality its is awesome and you wont see it in any other sport
It's impressive that Bernardo even does it with instructors with less experience and fewer accolades than he has, not just legends like Xande Ribeiro.
Thought the same thing. When world champions discover something for the first time gives us mere mortals hope too.

Yeah man, always loved that about Bernardo. No ego. Such a great dude
I had to put my head down while watching this
why
@@1lostinspace it’s just Physics
😂😂😂
hahaha.... this is very funny my friend.
Reminds me of playing golf with my grandfather
Everything of Xande's that I've tried has become a permanent part of my game. He's unreal.
Absolute genius
The Einstein of BJJ
Do you guys have a particular series you would recommend as a starter from him?
@@fearfulgb123s8 his concept of diamond defence
The phrase is refined technique. Most of the BJJ world chases new attachments to the core. A few chased refinement of the core.
White belt here: this technique really made a difference for me! Thank you very much Xande and Bernardo!
Xande just giving away gold here
“Head down” 🖐🏾
That detail of staying flat and stiff arming the hip is huge! I cant wait for the DVD! You guys are awesome!
2:33, 3:35, 4:30, 5:00
I'm adding this escape to my white belt arsenal
"head down"
Xande has perfect simple style and power! Greetings from Poland!
Bernardo just didn't want to keep his head down. LOL

Mount escape is a big weaknesses in my game.
You are by far one of the best jiu jitsu channels on RUclips. Thanks for everything.
easy to forget bernardo is a world champ - he has all the answers, yet is still a student of the game!
This goes on the same principles that Matt Thornton speaks about regarding mount escapes. Great stuff!
Ninguém passa a guarda do Xande desde 2005... Isso competindo contra os melhores do mundo... Isso é muito incrível!
Professor, grava os cursos dele em português TB, tá faltando Xande ribeiro no bjjfanatics Brasil !!! Oss
this guy is an awesome teacher, there aren't many like him around
This is actually an old school straight arm position frame which I learned about 25 years ago and was a main part of my escape strategy.
Xande is a legend! 💯💯💯💯💯
I saw this escape from an old video from Xande, has been years it still my most trusted escape, works all the time.
Xande is the man. A legend. 🤙🏻

Sounds like you need to relax more and stop muscling. I’m guessing it’ll get easier once you learn a guard and a sweep.

Simple. Effective. Beautiful.
Yuge owner for me! Love your videos, mindset, guests, and openness. Thank you!
I'm sold on the "diamond concept". I'm anxious to get the Xande series when it comes out
Love this. Timely appearance in my feed.
Wow never know xande speaks english so fluently
Xande is the man! OSS brother
I was wondering why my escapes weren't working as well when I was intensely focused, when I was lackadaisical I would occasionally do this on accident
This is fantastic
Thank you for sharing the knowledge needed a channel like this a purple belt here and still learning keep it up!
Xande saying "It gets a little weird" pretty much sums up Jiu Jitsu in a nutshell 😂
Head down!
He really is almost unstoppable.
White belt here 27 year old male. I’m going to try these techniques tonight at class. Only been practicing for about 2 weeks now.
O jiu-jitsu mais elegante do mundo !!!
Bernardo is so wholesome
At mark 6 min the camera needed to move to Bernardo's right side. I can't see what the legs are doing.
Rickson has done this for years.
Technical monster
Loved it.
It's always the small adjustments and small details (called fundamentals) which we are missing and by using them, it always works.
i always intuitively defend my neck when i get mounted, but it becomes a struggle for very long and i end up stalling out of tiredness, gonna try this framing next time and try to unlearn to automatically defend the neck
Bernardo, put your head down!
Good stuff 😎🤙
Head down. I have to remember that.
Head down.... and then....head down....and den.... head down head down head down Bernardo Lol
Nice
As a blue belt this is my bread and butter
Is the neck open for an ezekial choke?

That's me. I'm the noobie.
When you remember that one time when Roger Gracie passed your guard in 2005... Lmao. Beast. Thanks for the concepts and technique🙏🙏
Head down Bernado : )
I dont know why but Xande gives me Bas Rutten vibes.
This guy is the real deal lmao
I had to watch this several times over to figure out what he was doing.
What to do when the top guy crosses his feet and you can’t get your leg on the ground?
Just wait? They can't attack you well from that position.
When are you going to invite Renner Gracie
Or Ryron
Head down
Xande seems like a super brainy guy. I thought he was using the term physics casually until he started talking about Joules of energy.
Jiu JItsu's Bas Rutten
I noticed that too.
head down!! lol
Anyone know why he keeps emphasising head down? Does it make the technique not as effective if your head is up?
I've tried both. It feels like you're more stable with head down on the mat. Like more bodyweight is grounded and makes you feel stronger.
Connection
Head down?
HEAD DOWN FFS! Xande, Bernardo is trying this tech for the first time so he's just trying to watch what he is doing with his arms and right leg.
🤣 I always find Xande to be a tad hard on Bernardo. It's a bit of that competition spirit coming through I think.
The head down part is half the reason the technique works...he's breaking a bad habit.
@@daveesselink3574 Is it a bad habit to try and observe the teacher when learning something? Also, he doesn’t say why, that might be helpful.
30 powers of jolly
I love when a world champion acts like a white belt on bottom.
Seem like while he's "doing the escape".. he's open to a hammer fist
When you're at bottom mount you always open to a punch, you just pick it either you want to get punch untill sleep without doing nothing just like chris weidmann or escape while getting punched
Escaping dominant positions like this will never be pretty. That's the price you pay for ending up in them.
Head down Bernardo God dammit 😂
Abregado!!!
Head down 🤣🤣🤣wtf
2:25 bruh..... i do this

Can we really trust this works coming from a guy who was only mounted one time in competition in 1991?
Must watch for EVERY WHITE BELT (and above).
