The tiger class had fully automatic loading. the 3 inch secondaries fired 115 rounds per minute and the 6 inch, could do 20 rounds per minute from each gun. Fewer barrels but more shells per minute than a Sverdlov.
I long hoped to see this ship in the game and bought it due to historical interest (last all-gun cruiser built, but with the fastest-firing 6" guns). I think the ships should be a knot faster (to 31.5 kn) and could be made more competitive through addition of a second shell type (navweaps says there were both AP and HE shells), and possibly a mild and/or short-duration engine boost.
I remember seeing the Tiger & "Snakey" Blake being paid off while I was in the Mob. Those guns 6" and 3" looked amazing compared to the 4.5 mk6 on the Juno. There was talk of taking them out of reserve for the Falklands campaign, but they never did. Supposedly because they'd sold off all the ammo and they'd need a few months to get them ready to sail.

Vanguard was in service as were at the RN carriers to deal with the Russian cruisers. The Tiger class was an anti aircraft escort for those ships. Fighting other cruisers wasn't it's job and it could do AA better than a Town or Crown colony because it's 6inch guns were dual purpose. Larger AA guns were needed because you could engage enemy aircraft from further away you didn't want aircraft dropping guided bombs or torps from within range of 40mm guns anymore. Comparing it to the Town class especially the enlarged Belfast isn't really fair either. The Belfast was 10% longer and had a 5 foot increase to her beam to allow her to carry all the new radars without losing any main armament though it decreased her speed and range. The Tiger class were designed with all the modern radars while keeping to the dimensions of a crown colony class so armament had to be sacrificed for a specialised AA only armament.

Bold claim Jingles, and I can hear sad Krispy Kream and Emerald noises... For my the Krasny Krym is still holds that title; at least Tiger '59 has utility and can citadel itself, the Krispy Kream doesn't even have that going for it and a T4 ship with T5 matchmaking just makes it even worse. Emerald is still the worst Tech Line ship, but Tiger does make a strong bid for the Krym's title. That said, there is something fun about playing a ship as bad as Tiger '59 and Krasny Krym (I do have both and play them for a laugh, Emerald as well); if you have a good game you know it's because you played well and because they're so bad, if you have a bad game then oh well, the ship is crap anyway. Plus, as someone once said; "If you can't take a joke, don't play World of Warships", and Tiger and Krasny Krym are massive jokes.
Krasny Krym is excellent firestarter, rarely disappointed me. Stick with your mates and burn BBs. Hide behind islands and use the gun arc to launch the firework. My vote would go to Siliwangi and FR25, those are hard to play ships. Also most hybrid Russian DDs have low DPM.
@@ainumahtar I forgot about Seattle. I hated that ship with a passion. But like Tiger, it at least has utility; radar, hydro, heal, HE spam potential. I love Emerald but she is awful, bless her (delicate) cotton socks.
What Tiger 59 needs is reload buff. Giving her Mino reload with reload mod would help, though still not enough, I think that if it had 2 sec reload it would be much more deadly.

Now you see Jingles the UK also made the brilliant Blackburn Buccaneer naval strike plane to counter the Sverdlovsk class so by making the Tiger rubbish it gave the soviets a sporting chance. Very gentlemanly of us
I agree the full auto 3" guns should count as secondary firing HE. Tiger 59 is not the only ship that got screwed by the decision not to count them as DP secondary's.
Tears gathering in my eyes watching what wargaming did to one of the best CLs in war thunder. Unbelievable fast reload on main battery with probably strongest AA (due to 6 dual purpose 3 inch guns with proxy fuze HE). Such a wasted potential
I have the tiger in war thunder myself and god was it painful to play. Stock with 6" HE only and generally only getting 1 turret on target was a stock grind nightmare. Admittedly war thunder naval had improved a lot recently so come ce come ça

I so wanted to like this when it came out. I love all the RN CL's from Leander on up. So a T8 with Mino guns?! Awesome! But no. It has much worse DPM than Edinburgh and it literally has no broadside to speak of. I have no idea why WG didn't give it either torps OR hydro, because now it SO onesidedly weak. Yes it has DD dispersion, but at 15kms, who ever complained that Edinburgs dispersion was bad? This ship is a total turd.
Even Edinburgh is an extremely underestimated ship. The guns are effective if a little slow when up-tiered and if you get gutsy and use radar over smoke you can be a real bugger. It’s stealthy too. I enjoyed playing Edinburgh, must take it for a spin later..
"This is a ship so bad that Wargaming has to lie about it in the description." Erm, don't they lie constantly? I'm not saying this ship is good, I'm just saying we might need a different system of measurement...
I was the Cossack player. GG to cowplop for the kraken win. I thought you would HE blast me if I came too close, as I didn't know what things the Tiger had outside of smoke and radar. I should have gone for the point-blank shotgun torp blast. Worst game of the season for me. Still liked the video because Jingles is the best.
Ahhh, the sweet spot between the end of the 1950s when all of the world's cruisers had all of their 20mm and 40mm guns removed and replaced with a tiny handful of 3 inch proximity fused AA guns, and the start of the 1970s when most of them started having SAMs and then CIWS added.
I made a model of HMS Tiger as a child, and I rubbed my hand along her near-scrapped hull "up the Hamble a bit" as a teenager. I recall a sadness at her lack of gunnery on both occasions. Although if Warbloodygaming had also given theirs 6 x 76mm HE spamming secondaries as it should have had (0.5 sec between shots per barrel) ... oh wait ... even Wargaming has boundaries it won't cross ... ???
This thing sounds like a tier 8 Yubari. At least as I remember the ship, I stopped playing years ago. The Yubari did have torpedoes but such narrow firing arcs you had to show flat broadside to use them. 4 guns, terrible DPM, and toothless AA on what they marketed as an AA cruiser.
I think you are forgetting the Katori, the only playable non warship in WoWs. And this radar and smoke eqipped 4-gun mobile citadel looks just like a bigger better version of it uptiered to 8.
@@usssimshullnumberdd-4095 Yeah I really feel those 2x2 7km 9k torps help to offset her non existent 2x2 140mm gun dpm, 10.6km concealment, 18 knots top speed, non existent armor and completely above water citadel running from bow to stern. Especially when it gets uptiered into rier 4 90% of the time where it cant out spot, out gun, out run, out tank or out turn any other cruiser or BB. If they made a consumable allowing Katori to fire a last salvo of torps from the bottom of the ocean, it would still be useless. At least before the skill rework, it could be made to out-range some of its adversaries (even though it would struggle to keep at range on account of being unable tu run away from even the slowest BBs), and even though it did virtually zero damage this way, on lucky days it could draw the fire of the enemy, whichon the whole is good for the team. But those days are long gone…
TOG actually has a pretty good gun decent reload, good stability because the tank has the speed and haste of a drunk sloth, and pretty good damage for its tier. It is the same gun and turret as on the Challenger which uses a 17-per.

Unpopular opinion: this ship is good purely based on it's utilities. DFAA for CVs, Smoke for friendly DDs and CL/CAs, and Radar for universal use. It is the literal embodiment of a "no strength all support" build
I can only confirm MIGHTY JINGLES' assessment... I looked at the WEIGHTED win rate stats from JUL 7th to AUG 26th... It is at the very bottom of it's tier for sure.
I would submit that at the range he started fighting the Bismark at his best option would be to close in and turn full broadside so the 15 inch rounds overpen (yes they will do that even if they hit the main belt). Like other lightly armoured ships such as Atlanta and Smolensk.
WG seems to like giving British ships & tanks "real world" characteristics, in games where everything else has absurdly exaggerated arcade characteristics. Tiger ought to be one of the most OP gunships in the game with its advanced radar and gun systems (ditto for Vanguard, with arguably the most advanced armour scheme and sophisticated fire control system of any BB). I actually recall seeing Tiger and Blake alongside when I was a naval cadet (albeit they were both helicopter cruisers by then).
from the 1930s onwards the royal navy kept deciding that ships did not need weapons, culminating in the Falkland where many ships had 2 bofors and not much else of use, compared to other nations they hardly put and actual weapons on anything, no idea why.
The Tiger 59 sounds like a great ship, until you consider that it's meant to get in fights with other ships... But it would make an excellent fishing boat for the admiralty!
Only the Royal Navy would bring 4 guns to a 12-gun battle, while also ensuring that the ship is also made of paper. Thus behold! The Tiger '59! But at least cowplop was lucky that the Baltimore had such low HP.
Just watched Maveric, and I need to add this, sometimes it is not the Ship but the Capt. and the absolute level of 'Insanity' shown in the face of the other side !, LOL.
Two things the admiralty did wrong in 50s and 60s. 1 Ordering HMS Vanguard to be scrapped and number 2 Replacing town class cruisers with that absolute turd of a ship, I wouldn't call it a Cruiser, Id call it a fat fragile frigate which was made even worse believe it or not, by removing the rear turret and installing a helicopter hanger, which is fair enough, at this time point the missile age was very much on the horizon, But this game is set around artillery based ships, we don't have ship launched missiles in this game... yet. So the Tiger 59' just has no place in it.
@@emberfist8347 its an idea, but I think wargaming will probably do it later one some point, I also think, since we're starting to see ships with helicopter pads on them, that they might possobly be introducing a new anti-submarine gimmick down the line.
Actschually Jingles, HMS Tiger (59)'s 25mm armour is substantially superior compared to other British CLs, even including Minota- Huh? Salt miner? Never heard of that profession... Is the pay good?
One thing thats always annoyed me with wows (of which there are many). Is when a ship has the equipment for some. say sonar, but doesn't get the hydro consumable. In some cases I get it's for balancing, but... others not so much.
I saw a trio of these working as a wolf pack in a game a bit back, well coordinated use of the smoke packs and rapid fire to just tear it up. Now granted, quite sure there are better ships you could do that with... now I just need friends. ;)
Good game. Jingles, on your list of terrible ships, I don't consider the Krasny Krim to be one of them - have had some very satisfying games in her. She makes a good spammer, especially given her gun arcs allow a fair amount of firepower in basically every direction.
Actually Jingles the Tigers were made due to budget cuts. The Neptune-class was cancelled and they needed more cruisers so they refitted some leftover Minotaur hulls they had
You make a convincing case. Can't think of a worse ship. The real Tiger, with three turrets should have been pretty good though, but real world developments meant it was more of an ornament. Didn't stop them looking her over during the Falklands War though to see if they could bring her back into service (answer, not a chance!).
We have video of the Tiger hitting over 34.5 knots, the camera then cuts out as the narrator says 'her top speed is classified'. Ingame Tiger? Lardass. But this is WG, the company that didn't bother giving Renown her secondary guns.
I mean, the Tiger (C20) made a decent amount of sense in real life for what it was designed for: Escort duty and small raids on enemy shipping. Too bad the things that made her "alright" in real-life don't translate very well into a game like WoWs :^) At least they didn't add the "jams after 30 seconds of sustained fire" debuff to her tho...
1:20 Technically, HMS Blake was the *last* artillery cruiser of the Royal Navy. Both in terms of last to enter service and last to leave. 1:30 I don't think HMS Vanguard's WW1 surplus guns could be called *advanced.* Powerful, yes. But while she was a state-of-the-art battleship in every other respect, Vanguard's guns were older than the vast majority of the men who served on her. 2:00 While the Tigers were indeed meant to counter the Sverdlovs, the problem is that in the 1950s the Royal Navy was on a shoestring budget. They were a trio of half-built Swiftsure hulls (basically 3-turret Fijis) that were modified for the specific purpose of using up the six already-built turrets for the cancelled Minotaur class. Pity that Britain didn't cram 3 turrets each on Tiger and Lion, and just skip Blake. Based on just the size of the turrets, that should've actually been feasible. Sadly, the Royal Navy wasn't thinking in terms of making sure their ship would be useful in a video game 60+ years later.

There was talk of taking them out of reserve for the Falklands campaign, but they never did. Supposedly because they'd sold off all the ammo and they'd need a few months to get them ready to sail.
For the first few minutes, I was like "But Jingles, are you really expecting a destroyer to tank shots from a Bismarck?" Then you mentioned HMS Tiger is a cruiser...I see your point.
In my defense, I don't play WoW.
in fact a destroyer *could* tank shots from a Bismarck, because it doesn't have a citadel. Cruisers, very much depends on their exact armor values.
"I am a Pole"
Everyone getting shot by a Tiger in WoT: Ooh, that hurt a little bit.
Everyone getting shot by a Tiger in WoW: Haha, that tickled!
Meanwhile, it’s actually pretty competitive in War Thunder Naval Battles.
That's because WT doesn't turn guns into nerf darts with number generators behind them.
@@L.Pondera but they nerf depending on Nations, just look what technology faces each ither even in "realistic" battles, and just the latest over buff is a american jet fighter (probably again for real money) that can launch the rockets 30kms away, they wont see any indicator on them firdt right before the impact there is a notification that you get tracked by a missle. Or the nerfs germany got now even where they had to face atgms with 600-800mm penetration or radar guided AA. In the latest games from wt or wg even future ones arent that interesting anymore, the only interesting mode i found was the 2md arcade mode in Wot, because with -20% penetration on all shells, you could see how many players rely on just pressing 2, and it was the first time in a long time the maus really was enjoying to play, you have still to be careful, but at least you can do your tank role partcial

Yeah, I was never so disappointed to get a ship out of a supercontainer as when this thing popped out.
Speaking of tiger lack of armor jingles you miss at 5:45 were the cossack actually citadel the tiger with her last salvo.
"He only has 2.5 thousand health. But Cowplop has 20,000 health. _You wouldn't BELIEVE how quickly that situation can change!"_
Jingles is always a joy to listen to in his commentary, but listening to him _DRAG_ this thing for the entire video was an extra treat! 😆
I love this on about 1000 levels, that was awesome Cowplop2, everybody always goes for the meta (I'm an EvE victim, I know this) but it's fun to fight sometimes with one arm tied behind your back. Thanks to all involved for making this video possible for me to see.
So... this is basically a big gunboat destroyer with a citadel and no torps or HE?
Not even a gunboat destroyer, more like a Japanese torp destroyer without the torps and with a massive citadel.
@@empress_alex I'm pretty sure even the IJN Torpedo boats have better guns. They may not have good DPM but the Shima's guns are punchy if nothing else.
Just an FYI, by 1959 Vanguard was awaiting scrapping already and was in mothballs with her guns removed.
The bofors were removed but the secondaries and main batteries were definitely in place when she paid a visit to the “Still & West” for one last pint.
if I was in an Omaha, I'd still feel pretty confident in taking on this thing xD
Of course, we all know how AA cruisers perform in WoWS now do we?
I've heard it said that the mighty buckaner was the RN response to the Soviet cruisers. The Buckner's were quite capable low level strike aircraft
You made me return to world of warships, what I hated the most was the grind but I found a whole bunch of 1600% XP boosts and got a Yamato in no time.

I play mostly without premium account so I play 2-3 battles now in ranked T10 less that 1h , with those + 200% xp I have like 1600 those and I have rest day free I just finnished Limbo , and started Inside , and if I have premium I play max 2 h for all containers , economic bonus is + with xp but - with credits without premium , ship bonuses or economic bunuses , I dont worry I have 190m credits , but new players are screwed or they play 12h per day or spend cash to conver db for credits = game will die suddenly that my guess... I only home I will mange to sell my account before that will happen .
Jingles got me into the game... Wargaming got me out of it.
So for now I am happy watching the battles, meanwhile my ships are in port rusting away I presume.
Yeah I am still not happy since the Puerto Rico disaster, even though it all started with the Exeter and earlier, the Rico was just the proverbial straw.
naw....watching jingles' wows videos make me happy i left. weegee are just whores. and bad ones. playing, even for free, allows weegee to make money. its an advertising thing.
As the unfortunate owner of both, the Italian t9 tech tree DD is way worse than even the Tiger 59.
the t9 can at the very least do damage to a bb, and it has much better dpm.
I'd still rather be in an emerald than a seatle
@@ainumahtar You take that back, I loved my Emerald! My damage record is in that ship!
You'd be surprised at how much stuff Emerald and Hawkins can bounce.
Cowplop2 played an amazing game despite the ships shortcomings!
What Tiger 59 needs is reload buff. Giving her Mino reload with reload mod would help, though still not enough, I think that if it had 2 sec reload it would be much more deadly.
And allow its 3 inch guns to actually fire at close ranges
HE may also be required. Or Dutch Airstrikes. It needs something.
@@Joshua-fi4ji Actually, it needs ANYTHING :D
@@Joshua-fi4ji ability to switch def AA with hydro. And let it be RN DD hydro (3km) at least something to not get torped.
@@silverhost9782 As if they are going to do much, a 76 mm HE would have 12-13 mm's of pen. Might not be enough even against DD's, not to mention other cruisers that come to bully you out of the smoke.

A brand new tier 8 light cruiser of the USSR have been introduced in the random gift pack mechanics. For only 2*10^6 gold (and your soul) you can have a chance in obtaining the iconic Soviet cruiser Project-138563145...854. Equipped with 4 152mm guns with excellent rate of fire and range blah blah blah.
Pros
- 1sec reload time
- Guns have 20km range
- Access to Radar, sonar and smokescreen consumables
- Unique smokescreen that works against most radars
- 4*4 20km torpedos
Cons
- Only 4 guns in 2 turrets
- Radar range is only 12km and with a short duration of only 120 seconds
- Sonar have range of only 8km
- smokescreen doesn't cover you from sonar and electrostalinum waves emitted by Soviet radars
- Torpedos are very similar to Japanese 610mm torpedos and therefore lacks homing capabilities.
- Low hp pool of only 60000hp.
- 300mm around the citadel
- Only 30% torpedo damage reduction
Overall this iconic ship is for those masochists who like to play American battle ships and other garbage ships. Ship is subject to stat change cause they clearly needs it as they can still be sunk by our most hated ships, US battleships (huh, what do mean "German bbs", people still play them? Ivan, we need nerf "op" German ships. No not the carriers and subs, I said "op"). Oh, if you're still reading, forgot to mention it have average AA.
I love Tiger 59. It's a terrible ship. And I explode immediately 2/3 times I play it. But when you wreck all the cruisers and dd's on a flank, and come out with 100K+ you feel like you did something.
Now you see Jingles the UK also made the brilliant Blackburn Buccaneer naval strike plane to counter the Sverdlovsk class so by making the Tiger rubbish it gave the soviets a sporting chance.
Very gentlemanly of us
I get the sneaking suspicion that you detest this ship. Call it a hunch.
"When I was a boy sailor on the Blake" sure sounds like the start of a really catchy Gilbert and Sullivan aria! 🤣
So basically, the Tiger is a huge destroyer, with shity guns, and no torps.
@@hammer1349 general stock grind in WT experience to be fair, but moment you get AP... My God not a single DD or CL are safe
This is the equivalent of a mosquito buzzing near your ear while you try to sleep and the only damage it farms is because you slap your head trying to kill it
I so wanted to like this when it came out.
I remember HMS Blake being broken up alongside Ark Royal at Cairnryan in the early 80s.
"This is a ship so bad that Wargaming has to lie about it in the description."
Erm, don't they lie constantly? I'm not saying this ship is good, I'm just saying we might need a different system of measurement...
Watching that gave me Huanghe flashbacks, but even that gets to play ball in T6 and has torpedo shenanigans to work with.
At least Katori gets torpedoes lmao
"Tiger '59: You'll find more DPM in Akizukis front claws" 😋
It's almost like TOG, but TOG has a certain charm to it...😆
TOG actually has a pretty good gun decent reload, good stability because the tank has the speed and haste of a drunk sloth, and pretty good damage for its tier. It is the same gun and turret as on the Challenger which uses a 17-per.
@@emberfist8347 I know; even though I'm not active anymore on WoT, I do have a TOG and I love 'em to bits. It's hard to get 'em in a herd, but when you do it's s##ts and giggles all the way 😋
Unpopular opinion: this ship is good purely based on it's utilities.
@4:58 "The Congress don't wiggle wiggle, it sinks"
1:05 I felt like that coming out of the St Louis.
Great video jingles, the best cruiser Tier VIII vs the worst.
While he did a great job, obviously, one does have to question the sanity of someone who brings this ship into a CLAN battle.
I would submit that at the range he started fighting the Bismark at his best option would be to close in and turn full broadside so the 15 inch rounds overpen (yes they will do that even if they hit the main belt). Like other lightly armoured ships such as Atlanta and Smolensk.
Jingles: How? Don't know.
Giving me flash backs to elite odyssey

Jingles..How long were you on the Brazen? Did my Tiff sea training in 93/94 on it. Had the joys of BOST at Portland
Tiger was completed with 3in rapid fire guns like uss.salem.should have them on the the ship as long rang auto secondary weapons.nice camo.
My German isn't very good so I could have misheard but I believe Gneisneau said more Tiger '59 videos would be greatly appreciated
from the 1930s onwards the royal navy kept deciding that ships did not need weapons, culminating in the Falkland where many ships had 2 bofors and not much else of use, compared to other nations they hardly put and actual weapons on anything, no idea why.
About the Sverdlov - it's actually coming to WarThunder this update
Maybe they should add missile ships like American LCIs with rockets as a way to counter carriers.

Huh? Salt miner? Never heard of that profession... Is the pay good?
One thing thats always annoyed me with wows (of which there are many). Is when a ship has the equipment for some. say sonar, but doesn't get the hydro consumable. In some cases I get it's for balancing, but... others not so much.
The Yubaris also only has 4 guns and a massive cit. but at least it’s tier 4 has hilarious accuracy, torps and actual as for t4
Last time I visited the Belfast I was quite impressed with the quality of workmanship on the dummy 4th turret 🤔
I can honestly say that I have never seen a Tiger 59 in any battle here on NA since it's been out.
This is one of those ships that wargaming points to and says "see, premiums are not overpowered"
I saw a trio of these working as a wolf pack in a game a bit back, well coordinated use of the smoke packs and rapid fire to just tear it up. Now granted, quite sure there are better ships you could do that with... now I just need friends. ;)
Wow. Even freaking Yuudachi could have won that gun fight against that Baltimore. Tiger would have been a great ship... If it had HE.
"You know, this ship could do with another turret. That would be just right."
Reminds of a line from a Monty Python song, 'Nibbled to death by an Okapi'.
I share your battle performance assesment of the Tiger '59. ^^
Hi Jingles.. When is the optimum time to use heals ?
wow...didnt even mention the gneisenau :)
Good game.
Jingles, on your list of terrible ships, I don't consider the Krasny Krim to be one of them - have had some very satisfying games in her. She makes a good spammer, especially given her gun arcs allow a fair amount of firepower in basically every direction.
That was awesome combat.
I've always had great games in this boat if you play it strength it could be a predator plus that smoke and radar chef's kiss
imagine being a Tiger '59 and you watch a vid of an old man roast your poor aft for 16 minutes.
I mean, the Tiger (C20) made a decent amount of sense in real life for what it was designed for: Escort duty and small raids on enemy shipping.
Too bad the things that made her "alright" in real-life don't translate very well into a game like WoWs :^)
At least they didn't add the "jams after 30 seconds of sustained fire" debuff to her tho...
A ship that you hate more than the Gneisenau? That's shocking.
Taking Tiger 59 into a clan battle makes him either someone with a point to prove, or an utter masochist.
In case you didn't already notice: Tiger '59 also seems to not feature any kind of ASW, neither depth charges nor aircraft...
Enemy team was too busy laughing at the Tiger to focus fire and win? Then again, they did bring a Bismarck into competitive...
I like the Krispy Kreme .. it's got so much dakka dakka, but I expect to die as soon as anything glances in it's direction.
Hey, Jingles. I don't play PC, I play Blitz. In Blitz the Belfast is a super powerful ship.
When you see a new jingles video. :D
When you see the enemy clan is your clan. D:
So the Tiger '59 is the Cruiser MkII from world of tanks with the howitzer.
Great video.. Makes me wanna dl the game again,, idk why I stopped
