Personally I really do enjoy the game. I've never been a big fan of racing games but I adore the music, art direction, and overall how they try to make it an enjoyable experience. I will say the AI could definitely use some work to make it a challenge as well with a few other adjustments, but considering it's FREE...I'll take this. Truly love the game and would have paid for it too.
glad you liked the game! happy someone else is getting a kick out of infection as well, think i've spent more time on that + bloodbath than i have the actual campaign. great vid 🐤❤️
The fact that this game has some of the most creative and ingenious kart options I've ever seen is amazing, it's a shame that they're exclusive to a specific character and the fodder selection. But it does make it a tad more unique which I appreciate
the best thing about it is the character without a kart is a bloodborne boss infamous for just running away from you for 90% of the fight so the developer just put his fight in the game basically unchanged and now that it's a racing game instead of a soulslike, suddenly his fight becomes one of the best instead of one of the worst😂
Been following this game's development most of the way through as a Bloodborne fan. I'm not too much of a cart racer, but say this is definitely fun enough that I'm coming back for more than just the gimmick. And yes, Mico- ahem, Nicolas running like a madman and the final stage of his course is both hilarious and awesome. And it's one of the best jokes for a bloodborne fan too!
I think what's especially impressive about the visuals/theming for this game is how authentic they are. As much as I liked the music, I suggested to a friend of mine (who is an audiophile) that he turn the music off entirely for one of the boss fights and it shifted from this goofy ass fight to a really unnerving one. The experience going forward without music transformed entirely and it was kinda cool.
I knew from the start Lil was gonna kill it with this project. More amazed at how much developing this game improved her art and animation skills than the final game tbh. Gonna try to apply for her company soon as a 3D modeler and I hope the next game in her noggin is even crazier!
Also that one huge monster that appeared during race at the beggining of campain. I was chilling far ahead of my competition when suddendly huge monster jumped on me and destroyed me. There wasn't a lot of things that could stop me from first place, due to no interaction with other racer, so I was surprised I didn't see more huge monsters chasing and bringing me down. You shoot behind, trying to slow it and risking bumping in something when you look backward making guns useful and not burning them to look for health transfer
I think it's very funny that with the ether vials system they accidentally reinvented the boost mechanic from Cars 2: The Video Game The gsme had a boost meter with 4 slots, and 5 vials out of 20 is... a boost meter with 4 slots lol
Incredibe analysis, and one that got me excited for this game's future! you have to adore games like these, seeing micolash- uh I mean *Nicholas* sprinting at mach 10 with a shotgun just broke me. I'll be sure to check this out!
To any who are unaware of how this game became a thing in the first place. Lilith, the developer, was working on a "Playstation 1" demake of Bloodborne for several years. This demake was built to simulate what Bloodborne would be like if it was released on the original Playstation. During the development, she created an april fools announcement for a kart racing addition to the game. Bloodborne PSX was finished and is fully playable. Ever since the announcement of Bloodborne Kart, the BB community has been begging for it to be real as it was such a fun and unique take on the Soulsborne formula.
I actually have the opposite experience with the blood droplet system. It's _so_ effective that if you got an unfortunate start and the front and/or middle of the pack is at all diligent about killing enemies, you're even less likely to make a comeback because the guy in front of you is conservatively 1.5 times your speed. It's the only time I've ever had to worry when I was in first; Even if I'm ahead, if I have no droplets then second place *will* catch up with me. By the way I'm pretty sure the Visceral Boost stun (which I can only imagine is what you're referring to when you mention "ramming into people") triggers on a "counter", not on a damage threshold. Except when you get blue shell'd. Then it just happens. This is the one mechanic I wish the game explained better, given that I'm not actually sure what a "counter" means. I know it happens if you get shot while drifting, but I'm unsure if other actions also trigger it. I generally found the mechanic too hard to capitalize on but that may be a skill issue on my part. All in all I do love the game and I hope there will be future patches with more content, more consistent viscerals, and more ways to catch up. Yeag
That's the experience I had with the blood system as well. To the point where I had to completely rework my strategy to get 1st place in the final race of the campaign because if I wasn't dead focused on gathering blood over having clean lines (or had the bad luck to not pull any weapons early) my goose was cooked in the long term
I'm stuck on console so I haven't played it yet, but my guess to the "counter" mechanic is that it's likely a stand in for the parry system of Bloodborne. So maybe you can counter on a melee swing or item usage.
Twenty seconds in and I already learned there's a Sonic Riders fan remake with extra characters and gear. Thanks! I knew I wasn't insane and there's no Metal Sonic in OG Riders
There’s a secret boss you can unlock as playable if you collect 3 moon shards from the first 3 boss fights, win 1st on every mission, and refuse the doll’s offer at the end. Good luck!
Tbh I've never been all that into Kart Racers but with this game doing so much unique stuff, and being free Im for sure going to check it out sometime soon. This game really looks like it has a ton of potential! It nails the aesthetic of both Bloodborne's setting and PS1 era graphics and i respect the hell out of that. Hopefully they keep adding onto it with stuff like Online play because that sounds like a ton of fun! As well as tweaking the gameplay to make things like the vials and blood a bit more rewarding, from the sounds of it they dont make much of a difference. Always great to see you covering these smaller games and putting a spotlight on them! Great vid as always and cant wait for the next one!
I'm sure there is a solution to fix being left far behind. Maybe depending on how far back you are additional boost bars could be added on. It could be communicated quickly with a short text saying "dead last boost awarded" or something.
Cant believe this game is FREE, If multiplayer was added it would be even better. Also great analysis, the infection mode is not something I have seen in any other racing game either
I decided to check out this game after watching this and wow it's been incredible so far. Honestly some of this game's features kind of remind me of Crash Tag Team Racing in a weird way (which is a good thing because I love that game). That's where my mind immediately went when you started talking about being able to turn the camera angle to shoot people. I always enjoyed having that level of control over where you're shooting in that game. Nightmare Kart doesn't give you quite that level of control because you have to actually drive at the same time, but being able to attack all around me is still something I've found to be incredibly fun about this game, especially since, unlike Crash Tag Team Racing, you can actually do this while still having full control of your vehicle. I've also really enjoyed the power braking in this game, actually. It's another thing that kind of reminds me of Crash Tag Team Racing, but this implementation of it can also be used similarly to Mario Kart Wii's standstill miniturbos, which I love and think more games should have. This game is absolutely brilliant.
What bothers me is that Sony was perfectly fine with someone making an unofficial guidebook for Bloodborne but somehow they soil their deepens over a fan game. Sony just really hates Bloodborne fans don’t they?
The first half of Nicholas's boss fight was a little confusing for me, I just thought that I needed to be fast enough to catch him. I had to watch a playthrough to know I needed to lure him into that room
So, AstralKat mentions that the aether system needs a rework, because: - All your boosts are needed to get back to full speed - Stamina limits prevent you from using all your boosts at once - Stamina is burnt in a powerslide boost, preventing you from boosting immediately from a powerslide Separately, AK states that: - The difficulty in accelerating to top speed means that it's almost impossible to catch up once behind. Finally, AK mentions, regarding the blood mechanic: - It's a good thing to keep players in the lead engaged, and make players consider item use - The speed boost cap is too low - The leader can build a significant lead too quickly. Presumably, the weakness of blood is to prevent the (already advantageous) leader from turning every lead into a rout. If the leader doesn't have pressure on them they can just keep increasing their speed, resulting in a "rich get richer" scenario. I had an idea that I feel would fix this: What if blood boosted acceleration instead of top speed? This would help alleviate the "you cannot catch up" aspect. Leaders are still incentivized to chase blood, because it would help them recover from a blue shell. But the advantage wouldn't be runaway. And because acceleration is only helpful when you *aren't* at top speed, you can make the benefit of blood bigger. Thoughts?
I absolutely love this game, and it's rapidly becoming my favorite kart racer (not that I have an enthusiest level of expetience with the genre). Honestly, what I want even more than online play is LAN play. I want to be able to hook two laptops up together and have 8 player races and battles locally. It would be so fun!
Wait a minute, is Alfred's shoulder fused to Logarius' Wheel a la Jax from TM2? Also, turning one of the most irritating bosses (Micolash) into somebody's favourite boss might be the game's biggest accomplishment.
If you know nothing about Bloodborne, Micolash, Host of the Nightmare, is a horribly unfun game of Teleporter Tag capped off with a boss who will annihilate your entire health bar if you stand too close/get distracted by his adds. He's not exactly hard, but he is often tedious, especially if you don't know the most efficient route to chase him to the arena.
I'd just like to distinguish kart games from arcade racers from simulation racers. I enjoy the more arcade style (no items, gamey feel) and those who like simulators would hate this game.
I don't know if this was caught to you, since I caught it on a lead screen tip, but you can boost out of non visceral spins. I found this helps with the knocked down speed issue. Plus it adds an extra layer of front running. When I was 3rd or higher I would consciously leave one boost instead of insta using it on a straightaway or shortcut to negate a spin which makes it a risk reward system (though it may still need to be tweaked). Loved this analysis and loved the game! I gotta see if I can try the steam link feature, supposedly you can use that to remotely play local co-op and get around that pesky netcode
What would you think about a time travel dreaming mechanic where even if the lead character is miles away, an afterimage of the rivals from the future will be driving alongside them, allowing kart rivals in the far back to continuously attack the lead character, forcing them to stop obsessing over perfect play and putting them back into the combat part of kart racing.
I havent played a racing game for years until i picked this gem up. Absolutely astonishing game. I emplore anyone who reads this and isnt already, Watch Her streams!! Getting to watch this game form was like witnessing mythology as its being written. Great stuff!!
I know this game is a Bloodborne parody, but GOD I hope this game gets more content and support. Besides patches, I'd love to just see more content for this game. Hell, i'd pay for it too! Wether the new stuff is a parody of other Fromsoft titles, more Bloodborne, or just original stuff.
Didn't know this became a real game and also that they were forced to drop (kinda) the Bloodborne aspect, but I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a go. On the topic of Health in racing games the only one that comes to mind for me is the Burnout Series (Burnout 3 Takedown is the best one imo) which is a series I recommend trying if you've never played it, also as for boss fights (that aren't just beating the boss in a race) that are actually boss fights in a racing game the only one that comes to mind for that is Mario Kart DS (another amazing game).
I recommend checking out Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers. It's an advance kart racer made in the Doom engine and based on the Sonic series. It's also moddable, too!
I don't understand how it "defied odds" as it used a VERY popular game and meme to make itself known. Yes, they had to rebrand it, but it already had exposure by then.
I highly reccomend Dr. Robotnik Ring Racers. Is complex and intense and get so much content like 151 tracks. Algo Nightmare Kart is more like Twisted Metal but with a bad IA and kinda less fun but not as Vigilante 8.
So you like kartracers with high speed, purposeful drifting and consequential health system? Have you ever heard about a combat-racing series going by the name of "Wipeout"?
You seem to really like racing games. You ever heard of a racing game Nintendo made a long time ago that is really good F-Zero GX? Like if your thing is speed, then I think you would really enjoy F-Zero GX or even F-Zero X. F-Zero is the franchise Captain Falcon is from and a lot of F-Zero stuff is in Mario Kart 8, like the vehicle Blue Falcon, and two of the tracks, being Mute City and Big Blue.
- The Blood should drain after a while.. requiring Players to continue to engage with it. - Stages should be "bigger", as constantly bumping into walls is just TOO annoying. - Claustrophobic camera.. specially with the rotating controls.
I didn't quite get the point about the game becoming boring when you're leading and how that interacts with the idea of racing games themselves because... Isn't that every racing game? They all become less engaging or downright boring when you're in the lead because racing games are, typically, fundamentally about the competition and the thrill of the risk of being overtaken or overtaking those in front of you. That's why I personally don't enjoy these games as much because it's very difficult to find a difficulty level to keep myself engaged in that tension and without it, they are all just boring rides till the end. For me, a racing game is at its best when they prioritize stages and the challenge of engaging with it, as opposed to deriving the sense of challenge and tension from other racers. AI or other people are fickle but a stage that can keep you engaged by itself? That's always gonna be there. Hence, Star Wars Episode I Racer is among the best racing games I've played so far. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk
I guess its just that games like Mario Kart or crash team racing are fun to play even when you're dominating on the track. This game kinda feels made for you to be in the thick of the pack at all times. So being in first isnt as fun to me as those other two examples
@@AstralKat I can neither agree nor disagree since I haven't played either lol But seems fair enough if there are systems in play to make the players in the lead still have to make decisions and act proactively.

- Stamina limits prevent you from using all your boosts at once

16:13 i would say grip’s rail gun counts
We need dlc with Ludwig and Orphan of Kos boss
All we need now is a Nier/drakenkart game.
Speed boosts in this game reminds me similar mechanic in speed racer (ps2)
Love nightmare kart so much so fun
I misread the title as:“… the game that defied all gods“ at first
I mean considering the secret boss at the end it ain't too off course
"the game that defied all odds"
It's funny that you say that Nicolas is the best boss, given that Micolash in the actual game is by far and away the most despised.
Hey I heard the ai is bugged out at anything over 30 fps, might help give you that challenge you were looking for 😉
I'm curious to see your opinion on the Mad Max game
great vid! :)
She did it.
Videos a hit, yo go oomfie!!!
I'm a huge fan of F-Zero, been hoping for a new game for ages, plus I've been playing F-Zero 99 basically whenever I have a spare minute haha
Awesome video!
So, with the difficulty added by the few complaints you *did* have, would you say then... that this is the Dark Souls of kart racers?
8:56 probably because the controls would be pretty disorienting
17:25 do you race against the moon presence??!
Legally
Distinct
opinion of thetie in game for the 2008 live action speed racer game for the wii and ds?
Wait, "kart game junkie"? Where's the Dr. Robotnik Ring Racers video tho?
...does this mean it's a party game disguised as a battle royale disguised as a racing game?
Is measured ultra violence the best strat, just like bloodborne?
it may come off as disingenuous but may I ask if you ever heard of Doctor Robotnik's Ring Racers?
Yeag
- The Blood should drain after a while.. requiring Players to continue to engage with it.
- Stages should be "bigger", as constantly bumping into walls is just TOO annoying.
- Claustrophobic camera.. specially with the rotating controls.
yeag
( 回 ͜ 回)👍
Wait what racing game is the king? I don't recognize it
Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing
1st time viewer, 1st time sub, you got my sub.
Have you ever played pac man world rally
@@AstralKat I can neither agree nor disagree since I haven't played either lol
But seems fair enough if there are systems in play to make the players in the lead still have to make decisions and act proactively.
What up with that ajitprop hair on the thumbnail?
thats the creator of the games OC
@@AstralKat Fair enough, thank you for the clarification?

finally a gaming youtuber that's a certified racist, keep racing on gamer🤘
They had us in the first half not gonna lie
I don't want to sound rude but 90% of your sentences end in the same tone. It's a fun quirk to how you speak.
It helps with my voice training actually haha. helps keep consistency, at least in my experience
@@AstralKat That's cool. Good luck with your voice training!
