The reveal immediately made me think these sleeves could be straight out of a studio Ghibli movie. It just has that sort of vintage whimsy feel that I can't get enough of!

I love a good chatty organizational video! And I really want to see how big that Truly Victorian 1890s sleeve pattern is because I've had my eye on it for a while now and I'm curious
In the middle of watching this, my husband walks over. Husband: what’s this? Me: Terrarium sleeves Husband: oh is this Rachel Maksy? Me: O_o what I’m saying is, the brand is strong
@@paisleywatson3369 ooooh, you could make the sheer fabric a glittery one so it could look like a layer of frost. Or one that has tiny dots like snowflakes. And then for the foliage maybe some twigs without leaves, think birch twigs the size of your hand, maybe a bit longer,, and also those (though this could be uncomfy bc pokey) spikey green leaves with the red berries that are in some Christmas wreaths? I love the idea of making 4 seasons of these! And if you'd plan on wearing it several times I think it would be a good idea to make the sleeves detachable though, bc I don't think you could wash the top like that...
The sleeves look gorgeous, I also think this technique would make awesome lampshades. Think of the light going through the fine fabric and making shadows with the plants! 🪴🌿🌾🌱🌼🌻🌹🌷💐
I actually remember an old video of a woman hot glueing ferns to the inside of "boring" lampshades for a forest shaded effect. You just had to make the hot glue placements work with your effect.
From someone who relies on the CC thank you so much for spending time writing out the closed captions and making sure they’re correct and hilarious in time with your videos. It is really really appreciated ♥️
Using a sleeve head in the shoulder seam will make it stay up more “poofy” at the top. I can walk you through it if you like. It’s a great technique to know when you do costumes. I did wizard of Oz costumes for my daughter’s school musical. She and another teacher do the whole thing. I do costumes (27 Oompah Loompahs for Charlie and the Chocolate factory This is the first time many of these children have “sewn” costumes rather than pulled together from mom’s, dad’s, and grandparent’s closets. They love it. I wanted sleeves like that for Glinda the good witch. It needed sleeve heads - they made the world of difference. I went looking for my photos but I guess I erased them by accident. Our Glinda was every bit as dramatic as the one in the original movie. When she made her entrance all the primary girls gasped and their eyes got huge! The actress who played Glinda came looking for me and said “did you hear when they all said ‘Oooooo’ that was the best thing ever”. I love watching you create, but I wish you’d give yourself a little bit more credit. I love the way you just jump in at the deep end and you always end up with something lovely. I’ve been sewing for 60 years and I can’t improvise the way you do. It’s a great skill to have these days with the world the way it is, so nourish that trait keep doing the interesting and beautiful creations that you do.
I agree!! Your not afraid to try things! I’ve been sewing since I was 10 and I’m 58 now. I made my senior prom dress, spaghetti straps and all. Love your ideas and they turn out so cute. ☂
Just got in trouble with my husband for watching terrarium sleeves without him, you are loved in my house! And those sleeves now watching it again with him!
I was watching this video and my fiancé had to leave the room to start breakfast. He said: "you have to show me what she's made". And because we just moved, we didn't get to watch once or twice on our weekend, and he told me he missed me watching her videos 🙂
These sleeves are beyond adorable! IDEA: Autumn leaf sleeves, like the leaves are suspended in a falling pattern that drifts down to a leaf pile laying at the bottom of the sleeve. On top of the leaf pile is placed a plastic jack-o-lantern that lights up. Purple sheer fabric for dark creepy vibes.. or orange/ivory sheer for autumn-leaning feels. A sheer-topped skirt with leaves sewn to it in a leaf-falling pattern.. or a circle skirt of layered yellow, orange and red sheers with jagged edges that give the feel of stacked maple leaves. For a photo shoot you could go visit a farm that has a cornstalk maze and perch beside pumpkins. Just throwing out ideas. :D Feel free to riff off of it.
I saw you choose organza and was like oh she’s gonna love how the seams feel on her skin! Try putting flannel as a seam binding inside and it won’t feel as scratchy. Also if you get extra flannel try gathering like 2” x 30” of it and putting it inside at the shoulder facing the sleeve and not your skin as a pad to get extra volume
So … now I, who’s been sewing and making my own clothes for 50+ years, feel like a total idiot for having never thought of this! 🤦🏼♀️ I mostly use PDF patterns any more, but … still.
@@susuburleson878 I also sew a lot of things that I make only once, because I don't need more than one of it, but that one thing that I've drafted or adjusted so it's just right, that I want to just make over and over with different sleeves, collars/necklines, skirt shapes, etc. That's the one to reinforce!

Aquarium sleeves. The inner fabric maybe a blue and green batik. Then either plastic fish, that you can hot glue fishing line onto the fish. Sew the lines into the top of the sleeves so that the fish can move when you walk. You will need to go back and forth a couple of times over the fishing line to secure them. Or use fish iron on patches to iron on to the background fabric. Then use the fabric you had for this project to look like an Aquarium bowl. Maybe a sand color skirt to finish the outfit. Or if you can find kelp like fabric, that might be cute. Thanks for posting this and have a great day!

I think I speak for everyone when I say we need to see Rachel in Karolina's accurate Snow White dress. The hair, the lips, perfection!! This is the collab we need to see in the world.
I remember aquarium nails (and shoes) being a thing. Now I want aquarium sleeves to be a thing. If anyone could make it happen Rachel can (with plastic fish of course)!
I 1000% endorse every possible iteration of over-the-top, extra, crazy sleeve shenanigans. Dramatic sleeves are my favorite thing ever, so whatever nonsense you can dream up to wear on your arms is AWESOME in my book.
😍😍😍 I have a skirt like that, it was a gift, and it's really wonderful; I would love to see Rachel make something like that from scratch because I could use the design help honestly. My goal is to make a whole light up constellation dress
As someone who's having a tough mental week, putting foliage in your hair definitely helps! Went to a dress-as-the-first-letter-of-your-name party as the concept of Autumn... There were many leaves and it was heavenly
Every season can have its own balloon sleeves. We've got Spring terrarium already, Summer could be brighter flowers, Autumn is obviously going to be pumpkins, and then Winter would be snowglobe sleeves (and an excuse for sparkly!).
"but I love the IDEA of spring" this is such a mood - I grew up on the east coast of canada, spring has never been anything other than a hypothetical concept to me
I live in western NY, spring is just the month where if the sun is out it's 30 °, and if it's raining it's 60. It gets to be cold and humid at the same time
Where I live spring is those couple of days between snow and blazing heat. Once upon a time I lived in Vancouver and it was actually a season that took a couple of months, very strange. An endless succession of different things blooming and making you sneeze.
This is so freaking creative and cute!! Pumpkin sleeves would definitely be an awesome autumn project. You could also do rain cloud sleeves and have tiny jewels handing off as water droplets
Ok please forgive me for not watching on Friday. It WAS HARD. But my granddaughters were here and we were happy and doin stuff. I saved it purposely for later in the week when I knew I would need the uplift. YOU SO DELIVERED. This was AWESOME. I am so happy you were happy with it. It was a TRUE JOY to watch. You are a joy to watch, all the time. You, as a creator, are simply my favorite to watch. You are a joy! Thank you for being you. I know, pretty difficult to be someone else, but ya know Thank you. Can't wait till Friday, just me and the husband, so will be watching, then or Saturday morning. Have a great rest of your week.🤗🤗
Fairy lights in the sleeves to make it look like fireflies in the forest foliage. I couldn't stop thinking of this while you did your sleeves 🌿✨ Can't wait for more of these puffy sleeve adventures 💚
Pretending to be a fae of the wood is also one of my favorite activities. I love the way your mind works! Using unconventional materials like this in my projects is something I really enjoy doing as well. I absolutely adore how these sleeves turned out. You're always such an inspiration!
OMG, only you would do* this. 🌟 Edit: After thinking, I have to wonder what this would look like with a dark academia look. Tweed vest, fabric book/diary pages written using fabric paint/Luma dye for the ink... And some ephemera (autumn leaves, "pressed" autumn flowers, etc.) added in for interest. If you could find your original balloon sleeves, or possible the leg-o'-mutton sleeves from that pattern... The pic in my head looks hella cute. If that was my aesthetic, and if I could pull it off, I'd try making it myself!
I absolutely love your creativity! I feel like you create magic with your projects, as if they come straight from the pages of a storybook! These are lovely 😍
lovely video! it would be cool to see sleeves for every season! maybe summer could have butterfly sleeves and winter you could do snowflake or snow globe sleeves! another video idea would be a radagast the brown recreation like your gandalf video! that's one of my all time favorite videos and i think it might be a good spring video. thanks so much for putting all this effort and work into your videos! you're amazing!
"If you're mediocre, stick to what you know." But! As Jake the dog from Adventure Time said, "sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something." Or as my dad used to say, "practice makes you less mediocre over time and eventually you may even think you're kind of good." I thought your sleeves looked GREAT, so my opinion is that they can only just keep getting better :)
I’m thankful for your channel. When I’m feeling down, your personality, and wonderful art brings me back up. Thank you so much. Really. You are doing good with this channel
I second this so much! There are many ways to bring good into this world, and Rachel should not underestimate the beautiful impact she has on all of us! Such creativity, inspiration and laughter!
I think there would be a way you could make a subtle opening on the inside layer so you could change what was in the terrarium to suit your mood. [Just make the inner sleeve in two parts, hemmed and overlapped a little, fastening may not be needed] What would I put inside? Little felt Star Wars figures battling? Dinosaur skeleton silhouettes? Glow-in-the-dark stars? Sequinned fish? Christmas ornaments? I’m just thinking of every small flattish object in my house now… I’d be tempted to make it with a really transparent outer layer, maybe fine black net, and an opaque inner layer, possibly a bright coloured satin - something nice to wear against the skin but providing a good contrast for whatever scenes were in front. Maybe an ombre shading from green up to blue so it could be sky or water. Very inspiring! Great job! :-). Another tip for puffed sleeves generally - if you make the inner sleeve layer shorter and more fitted than the outer, it encourages the outer sleeve to poof and saves you from the dreaded droop & slide. [insert new spark of inspiration] And you need a big swishy skirt with the same fabrics making a deep pocket hem, so you can have larger scenes. I’m thinking Lego wars here. Or origami fairy tales. I really want one of these! Aargh! Too many ideas!
Singing "I will not rage quit, Not Today!" In a cheerful barely keeping the rage at bay voice is so relatable. I'm glad you persevered and it turned out lovely!
Rachel looking absolutely adorable and princessy in the reveal gave me the happiest flutters! And I think mermaid lagoon would be so sweetly fitting for some balloony "sea foam bubbles" sleeves
I love how at first they look like basic but cute white poofy sleeves but then suddenly PLANTS! Edit: please please please make the giant pumpkin sleeves for fall!
rachel, utterly sincere: you know what they say, 'if you're mediocre, stick to what you know!' me, freezing mid-seam-rip while i redo the alterations to my thrifted wedding guest dress: yes but you didn't have to SAY THAT your channel is my comfort watch and without it i wouldn't have dared to alter this at ALL (even though they're very simple fixes). thank you for your content and your sheer exuberant chaotic energy!!
This very much reminds me of the time I spent hours hand stitching fake flowers onto a tulle skirt for a fairy/nymph photoshoot my friends and I were doing. It was well worth it.
Rachel!!!! I also had a ROUGHHHHHH week, and then tonight I settled in with carb-load pasta, wine, and this video, and now I can’t stop smiling!!!! This is so so gorgeous, and it literally took my breath away. A Spring fairy! Thank you for making my poop week end on a very, very happy note! 🍃👒
You have so many comments already, but I couldn't resist adding one of my own: You are an amazing creator, and I LOVE THIS!!!!! I do appreciate your humility/honesty when you explain what did and didn't work the way you expected. And it just makes me admire your artistry all the more.
Too cute! Loved the reveal - both the outcome of the sleeves and you whimsical cinematography. I think this idea of sandwiching the foliage between sheer textiles would be adorable as curtains! Or an apron! Or just anywhere! Glad you persevered through the week!
This was a very cool project!! And I hope that going forward you don't mind showing failures too, because we have all been here and it is just as worthy to be shared and talked about. The struggles are real and you are not alone! That said, this project is heckin cute and joyful. Keep up the excellent work!!
I applaud your patience with sewing on the leaves! The terrarium sleeves are such an unexpected concept- I cant believe you just came up with it so quickly! You surprise us every week, cause sometimes you think the project won't come together- but then it does AND it's so much better than I can imagine! Also, please sing the praises of your content more- cause it's awesome!
So many feels in this video! Mural?! 😚 No mural?! 🥺 Terrarium sleeves?! 😍 Why stick to “original plans” when the “made this up as I went along” plans are so MARVELOUS?!
For a last minute scramble, kudos!!! This turned out epic. Totally agree as well, pumpkin sleeves would be cool. Or like the valentine spooky dress but make a similar top. Or one for every season eventually tops and dresses. As far as the hem goes, to me it doesn't make a lack of difference. If you tuck it in, no one will ever see it and aside from you no one will ever know... after the ongoing struggle to get my yard moved with no end of rain in sight where I live, this video brightened my evening. Thank you so much and looking forward to future videos 📹.
Rachel, you can tape patterns to material, and then cut right through the fabric and the tape. This is a very cool project! PS Beautiful picnic basket. (Suggestion: Animals cut out from fabric sandwiched in diaphonous sleeves.)
Oh god that first second of starting the postponed project and being like “no”. I felt that in my soul. The sleeves however ended up absolutely darling!
Consider how many instagram artists I’ve seen do this design with leaves and water to see someone ACTUALLY MAKE IT! Is insane! You did such a great job Rachel and I can’t wait to see your next project!

😍😍😍 I have a skirt like that, it was a gift, and it's really wonderful; I would love to see Rachel make something like that from scratch because I could use the design help honestly. My goal is to make a whole light up constellation dress
Perfect, an excuse to use the lampchop sleeve pattern as well.
As someone who's having a tough mental week, putting foliage in your hair definitely helps! Went to a dress-as-the-first-letter-of-your-name party as the concept of Autumn... There were many leaves and it was heavenly
I cant get over how much I love the brown hair, it’s very woodland elf! ❤️🌿🍄
Actually that hem works really well with the floral theme! It’s giving me trumpet flower vibes!!!
Every season can have its own balloon sleeves. We've got Spring terrarium already, Summer could be brighter flowers, Autumn is obviously going to be pumpkins, and then Winter would be snowglobe sleeves (and an excuse for sparkly!).
Please make a matching skirt! It would look so good! Like a forest princess dress. Really love this!
"but I love the IDEA of spring" this is such a mood - I grew up on the east coast of canada, spring has never been anything other than a hypothetical concept to me
I had a similar feeling for winter, since I grew up in Florida and never got below 50 F. Now I live in the Midwest and I lovehate winter
As a Deep South transfer to the Northeast, I HATE winter. All 6 months of it...
I find myself basking in the sunlight every chance I get.
I'm from California, what are these "seasons" you speak of?
I live in western NY, spring is just the month where if the sun is out it's 30 °, and if it's raining it's 60. It gets to be cold and humid at the same time
Where I live spring is those couple of days between snow and blazing heat. Once upon a time I lived in Vancouver and it was actually a season that took a couple of months, very strange. An endless succession of different things blooming and making you sneeze.
This is so freaking creative and cute!! Pumpkin sleeves would definitely be an awesome autumn project. You could also do rain cloud sleeves and have tiny jewels handing off as water droplets
That sounds amazing!
Aaaand *yoink* I will be pilfering that rain cloud sleeve idea for myself, thank you very much. (Like seriously adorable idea, genius!)
this is so cute!!!! your hair with it makes you look like snow white!!!!
Fireflies! Fireflies! Fireflies!
F 🙏🏽
My jaw dropped at the reveal!! They are such a vibe and I’m a sucker for puffy sleeves. Please make giant pumpkin sleeves for fall!!! 🎃🎃🎃
I am LIVING for the idea of chunky pumpkin/jack-o'-lantern sleeves 🎃
Pretending to be a fae of the wood is also one of my favorite activities. I love the way your mind works! Using unconventional materials like this in my projects is something I really enjoy doing as well. I absolutely adore how these sleeves turned out. You're always such an inspiration!
Idea: Make a shirt/dress inspired by the house from UP and make the sleeves the balloons 😊
The way my soul left my body in excitement of pumpkin sleeves - obviously it’s her channel and life but if this doesn’t happen I may be devastated.
WOOHOO!! Weekend can officially start with Rachel awesomeness!!
Okay, this is my official petition for both “floor troll” and “floral troll” merch!
I would soooo buy those!!!!
I add my signature PLEASE
Mmmyes. I think yes
Totally adding my signature to this
I, a floor troll, add my signature
I'd love to make a yellow dandelion one with a yellow bodice and skirt!
I would love to see a months worth of montage of you wearing only clothing you have made to different places or even just around the house.
Your videos make me so happy! I look forward to them every week! ❤️❤️❤️
First off, the sleeves look dazzling! 🌿
Second, yes to the pumpkin sleeves please! 🎃
OMG, only you would do* this. 🌟
Edit: After thinking, I have to wonder what this would look like with a dark academia look.
It is giving me snowwhite in "leasurewear" hanging out in the woods vibes. Looks cute!
I love how Rachel can set the tone for every video by the way she says 'hello' at the start.
"If you're mediocre, stick to what you know."
But!
Rachel: "I kinda wanna make pumpkin sleeves for autumn."
Me: YES PLEASE!
Id love to see some sleeves like this for summer too if you have the time :)
What an awesome idea!!! ❤
I love how at first they look like basic but cute white poofy sleeves but then suddenly PLANTS!
Edit: please please please make the giant pumpkin sleeves for fall!
PUMPKIN SLEEVES!!!!!
Pumpkin sleeves!! Pumpkin sleeves!!
Yaassss
What an adorable idea! I have so much inspiration now, you could small fishies in and stuff, that would also be really cute!
Frogs!
rachel, utterly sincere: you know what they say, 'if you're mediocre, stick to what you know!'
me, freezing mid-seam-rip while i redo the alterations to my thrifted wedding guest dress: yes but you didn't have to SAY THAT
your channel is my comfort watch and without it i wouldn't have dared to alter this at ALL (even though they're very simple fixes). thank you for your content and your sheer exuberant chaotic energy!!
8:30 oh wow it looks so Tinkerbell!!! And now I need to see a whole outfit inspired by her please
The wig and the sleeves and the neckline together give me mad Snow White vibes. I love it. You did such a good job!
As much as I adore the floor troll, would love to see you build a sewing table! Imagine it’d look cool and rustic in your office/crafts room😍
And so good for that troll-y spine 😄
I applaud your patience with sewing on the leaves! The terrarium sleeves are such an unexpected concept- I cant believe you just came up with it so quickly! You surprise us every week, cause sometimes you think the project won't come together- but then it does AND it's so much better than I can imagine! Also, please sing the praises of your content more- cause it's awesome!
Oh my, this is absolutely magical! What a fun concept that you brought to life perfectly!! I am also hugely in favor of this becoming a little series
So many feels in this video!
Mural?! 😚 No mural?! 🥺 Terrarium sleeves?! 😍
Why stick to “original plans” when the “made this up as I went along” plans are so MARVELOUS?!
I can’t wait for the mural.....🦋 the one in the old house was so beautiful
These are absolutely dreamy! And pumpkin sleeves....HUGE yes.
Enchanting! Spring fun in a sleeve. Just put a strip of soft material on the parts that scratch, and you have a delightful Easter dress.
Oh god that first second of starting the postponed project and being like “no”. I felt that in my soul.
The sleeves however ended up absolutely darling!
Rachel, when you said, "hot, hot garbage", then proceeded to pull out the hem, I couldn't stop giggling.😁 Rachel, I enjoy your commentary ❤️😁
A+ for improvisation! Floral troll is now tied with "resting stitch face" for best phrase to come from your channel. Love your work! 💚
Such a great idea to use a "crystal" organza fabric for those sleeves! Love it!
Consider how many instagram artists I’ve seen do this design with leaves and water to see someone ACTUALLY MAKE IT! Is insane! You did such a great job Rachel and I can’t wait to see your next project!
