Hey Rob! I am learning to much about living light with you, man. i pray for god to give you a long health life..full of joy... i wish you all the best and perhaps... one day... we could meet in person...
The Swede I'm learning even galvanized roofing has acrylic coating on it. Wish I could find a good roof to collect water from, let alone sky/air that it fell through.
I am sure that roof water needed to be filtered big time. Wonder what he does for a living and does he own that property that tiny house is sitting on? This would not be a lifestyle I would enjoy but he seems happy. He looks a bit underweight and maybe he is not getting the calories needed to keep weight on with his current diet.
+ssj4goko4 +ssj4goko4 yes people have drank rain water for many years. The health of people way long ago was not great and we had much shorter life spans. Looked like he was getting rain water draining off a neighbors tar roof. I am just saying his water should be filtered more. In California we are having a drought and has rained very little when the video was made. I don't know how he could of collected that much water and how he pays for that land. Rent or owning that land is not cheap. He uses other people's resources. He does not pay taxes but uses the library Internet which was paid by the tax payers.

i love that tiny house , sort of a tent space but a lot more sturdier than a tent an the scattered house around the land is a nice solution in places with mild or even hot climate all year around,
I completely envy you! This is where I want to be in the next few years. Maybe I would like to stand in my house. And shower on premise. Man, you rock! thank you. totally subbing.
So many people talk the talk about living environmentally friendly, zero waste and so on. You actually do it. Thanks for the informative, inspirational and entertaining channel.
You're so fricken cool! I can see how happy living a sustainable lifestyle makes ya, it totally shows through the video. Very inspiring though and great tips, I would love to try living like this someday. :D
Rob Greenfield True. I guess I was just trying to be dramatic haha. Perhaps we are all equally insignificant. And For environmentalist minimalists like you and I, maybe being insignificant and inconspicuous means we are 'doing it right'.
Rob Greenfield except for you because you chose to camp instead of having a house .... soooo.... if you need water you wait for rain and then your "kitchen" is wet - what a nice lifestyle you should focus on a job that you can afford a nice lifestyle and don't have to life like that. Many of your values are correct - but at some point you should stay on the ground ....... don't you see you live in a dump :D ?
Read what I wrote "to WORK with" it's not his garden, I'm pretty sure his friend is letting him crash in the backyard. Don't tell me luck isn't involved with that, unless you count making friends as work...cause that's just wrong :D
I say mortgage free is GREAT, good for you. More and more people are doing this but in Mississippi, yes ,Mississippi we have codes and can't do this. If we could, and there MAY be places unknown to me where you can, it wouldn't be conducive because of THE HEAT! You can't sit outside long without wanting to pass out from the heat. There are a lot of heat strokes here. I would love to do as you have done!
This is basicly camping on someone's back yard right? However this would not be possible in a city like Portland where camping is illegal in the city limits, right? I would like to do the same but on my own land or a cooperative property that is commonly owned by several families.
Anthony Rizzo Hey, Rizzo! It is all about the active "civil disobedience" when it comes to unjust laws that go against "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Plus, home is a human right, isn't it? :)

Hey Rob, was wondering where you got the kitchen cabinet. I am in Toronto, Canada and would love to find something similar. Would appreciate the help and much love for taking care of the earth.
I think rob is richer than people who have to worry every month to pay heavy mortgage with most of the portion goes to interest, just one thing for rob, try to find your own land to have more peace of mind if cannot you can barter your skills in exchange of land to the property owner, and those who are critisizing rob, u r all wrong. This is down to earth living style
He explains it on his website " Instead of paying rent with money I am exchanging my services. The agreement is that I can stay here for a year or two. When I leave he’ll have a killer backyards, a rainwater harvesting system, garden, fire pit, etc. I know this might be hard to believe for some but there are a lot of people out there who do things that don’t revolve around or need money."

Good job I live in the island of PR and I get water like that too I am going to get me a tiny house and live off grid you can do it out here you know I am a New Yorker but I live now in the island and love it .... Peace my friend.
Well, that system of living doesn't work everywhere.. Its too hot & rains too much in my part of Texas. Still I collect rainwater, i compost & well try to live as harmoniously as possible with nature.. Still working on the solar & bicycle generator power, but getting there slowly. I figure if all I can power is a light & an outlet or 2 then that is some electricity saved.
texjames2000 Right on Tex James! Keep up the good stuff. Of course my system doesn't work everywhere, it's a diverse world and we've each got to adapt to where we live.

Great video. All you need now is neighbours living in a similar way, on open clear scenic land. Much room for variation without causing hazardous waste. Coming-soon in the Paradise to come.
What a great video. I'm a newbie to this channel and I found this so inspiring. The freedom to be 'disconnected' etc. I would love to have a plot of land and build my own Eco house. I have too many toiletries for one little cupboard though ;) the compost loo is brilliant. X
I never realized how fitting the name "Greenfield" was until this video... I'm quite impressed with your set-up! I would love to incorporate some of the features I've learned from this video into my daily life. Also, that stock music at the end reminds me a lot of the "Bob's Burgers" theme song. I've also noticed in several videos that you don't wear a helmet while riding a bike- do you ever wear one? If not, what are your reasons why? (I never ride a bike without a helmet, makes me too nervous! And curious to hear from others why or why don't they wear helmets).
The Unicorn I have literally never worn a bike helmet. They weren’t a big deal when I was growing up. We lived out in the country and biked everywhere with no helmet. As an adult, I just never bought one. I have never felt unsafe on a bike.
It’s illegal to ride a bike on the road in Australia without a helmet. When I was a kid and a helmet wasn’t a legal requirement, we still wore helmets for safety (but not everyone did). In the unlikely event of an accident, they provide some protection for my brain so I’d prefer to have that protection. My friends and I also choose wear helmets when we ski.

Hi Rob! I am currently cultivating plans to live off the grid. I admire your entrepreneurial mindset and love for spreading your "Do good" message. I know there are many types of living arrangements for living off the grid. I am passionate about tiny houses but haven't quite settled on what type yet. In your video here, you have found a host family to coexist with, correct? How did you go about finding such a family? Also, where do you shower and wash clothing? Or do you use the rain water for both and hang clothes out to dry?
Awesome! Would love to get back to a simpler way of living but i would need a lil more room in my tiny house as im 6'7" ... Much respect tho ... Love, peace, and Godbless

The Swede I'm learning even galvanized roofing has acrylic coating on it. Wish I could find a good roof to collect water from, let alone sky/air that it fell through.
The Swede Agreed. Most people who are using rain as a source for drinking/cooking are putting in reverse osmosis filtration for safety.
