  • Today I want to tell you about the challenges of living simply and sustainably in my tiny house.
Welcome to my tiny house in Orlando, Florida where I live simply and sustainably! I built this tiny house along with friends for under $1,500, with nearly 100% secondhand materials and while creating near zero waste- just 30 pounds of trash!
This setup allows me to live simply so that I can dedicate my time to the service of others and the earth. It also serves as a demonstration site for those who desire to live simply and sustainably.
Take a tour of the tiny house homestead:
    • Living Simply in a Tin...
I have created an FAQ to answer most every question that has arisen about my tiny house. You can read that at www.robingreenf...
To learn about the build and more details you can watch this video and read this guide: robingreenfield...

This channel is a resource for all who seek to liberate themselves, to live in truth and integrity, and to live in harmony with Earth, humanity and the plants and animals we share this home with.
Robin Greenfield and Dear Friends share means of achieving liberation and harmony through sustainable living, simple living, tiny house living, foraging, growing food and medicine, minimalism, zero waste, earth-skills, food sovereignty, community resilience, compassionate communication, activism, Black Liberation, Indigenous Sovereignty and living in service.

Watching Rob while decluttering. His simple living motivates me so much. I sometimes get so fustrated with all the belongings I have and even when I give stuff away and declutter I still have so much.I guess I should show gratitude and just keep on my decluttering process. It takes time. Thanks for the motivation Rob!!Athena says hi!!!

All well said man. Life is all about "choices". My 86 y/o father simply cannot comprehend how I can be "happy" while sharing 400 sqr ft with a 100 lb service dog and a 900 lb motorcycle. Now, I DO "own" this 4 acres with no 'mortgage'. But myself, gardens, and animals only utilize 10% of it. I rent/barter the other 90% to sustain the 'lifestyle' I'VE chosen. "FREEDOM" AIN'T CHEAP. We ALL pay for it in time and/or "security". JMHO.~Eli

You can easily make your own wood cutting board from a length of unfinished wood, such as oak. A single thick board can be cut to size and then oiled. Done! That's how my cutting board was made by my father - it's about 75 years old and is going strong.

    Hello Rob,
You are amazing. Such an inspiration to live more in harmony with Mother Earth.
Now I feel like a king having a 455 sq ft prefab "house" on a 2.5 acre orchard, apricating running water even more than before. I got rid of my fridge than recently my neighbor gave me his, but I don't like it, so I'm not using it. It makes a lot of noise and generates too much heat....
Long story short: We love you :) Keep rocking the boat....

Thanks,Rob, for the inspiration. My husband and I, plus our oldest granddaughter, all live this way in Maine during the summer. I've been searching for a place in southwest Fl where we could do the same. There's so many rules and codes. I guess that people who are living in their McMansion don't want to have to look out and see folks who are free from the treadmill. It's not an easy way to live, because being responsible for every facet of your life is intense.
I think your projects are having a great impact on the prevailing attitude about how we live.

Of all that you listed, I really hope the law becomes more flexible. I understand people don’t want huge communities of residential lots being dedicated to tiny homes for various reasons, but I believe there’s a middle ground that can be achieved.

Thank you so much! I life tiny and off grid together with my wife 3 years now. This experience is amazing. But as you said there are challanges. We don't do it extreme like you and we buy most of the food. But also harvesting wild plants and stuff. This video reinforced my purpose (hope I say this right). Especially what you said about time. That hepled me a lot in this moment. Present time should not be the touchstone. Progress is all that counts! Thank you so much for all your videos and inspiration.

I hate being too hot and I love snow. I’m not young and fit either, but I like the spirit here. This is the life of a medieval peasant, constant hard work and no time for leisure. I want to read and reflect on the meaningless of life. Oh, and to live reliably like this takes more people, a village in fact. And how do you defend yourself outside society? Lots of questions. But again, well done.

Love you too Rob Greenfield. Your videos inspire me to believe that 'closing the loop' really is possible. The principles you have adopted could be applied at any scale, and keeping it small has made it possible to employ loads of ideas so that people can use some, or just a few. Here in Tasmania our housing crisis is worsening. More and more, people are opting for simplistic life styles, but there are often tiny houses for sale that didn't quite meet up to the 'idealistic' lifestyle. I think having more than one person living in this situation could definitely be another challenge that would need to be considered. All the best.

  • @Lizsunshine1

I think after this project you should start a workshop or build a type of commune to help teach others how to live sustainably. Those are bigger thoughts, but at some point maybe you can help teach others how you do it in person so they can learn by doing and have it become a real life skill/habit for themselves. Teaching in groups or creating a community that wants to live sustainably together might be the next step. Your work is so inspiring and essential and i want to see it progress on a larger scale! This is clearly your purpose!

Hi Rob, thanks for sharing the challenges of living in a small space. My partner built his own self-sufficient motorhome and we both lived in it for 2 years, it measured 13 x 5 ft (75 sq. ft) and it certainly was a challenge. It included a shower/toilet, sink, stove, double bed, fridge/freezer, and storage space. Everything we owned fit into that motorhome and we were self-sufficient in power (solar power/12volt), had a gas hot water system, and collected water in our large under-floor tanks from municipal taps. Our floor space was tiny - about the size of a small mat - and with 2 of us living there we had to be super patient with each other because only one person would be able to move around at any one time. What I found the most difficult apart from the dirt on the floor (which would get in our bed) and the heat in summer (100-110F) was the constant moving around of things just to be able to reach or use something else. Something was always underneath or behind something else and it would drive me crazy. Now, living in a small 2 bedroom house seems like luxury, there is so much space. Thanks for showing us all that it isn't always easy living "simply" and best of luck with whatever the future holds in store for you x. Diane

I’m so curious about how you’re going to get through the summer on just what you can grow in Central Florida! Not very much grows from July-Sept that I know of! I hope your freezer is super full of good stuff to eat!

Hello! I saw a video of you on Exploring Alternatives. Loved the video! My dream is to have a small house where I can live simply with small pets, and where I can plant my own food. I am saving up now to build my own house. =D

Hi Rob, great living style! I wish I can do it someday. I am doing one meal a day and feel good. You can try this to save your cooking time in and out your house.

Still loving your videos, up here in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, it's a bit hard growing food, but I'm trying, and I know your pain with your 100SQ FT house, I've been living in my dads side yard in a 32 SQ FT mini home and it's hard to keep clean.
I hope your still doing well and I'll keep trying cause of you Rob!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us 😊😊😊. When we live a natural lifestyle, we don't have to worry about getting enough exercise . We can save money 💰 by not having a GYM membership. Amen!!!

I love what you do. I live in Polk county and they wouldnt allow me to live such a healthy lifestyle on my own land. They would probably lock me into an old folks home.

I know this is older but i had to comment on what you said about not having a microwave. I dont think i could live without it!! We call it "the dog safe" its literally only stored food while it cools down because i have a giant dog that counter surfs if i leave food out. :)
