OVER 50 years of fishing experience here. spent the last 30 years fishing the creeks of Indiana for steelhead and salmon from 10lbs to 40lbs in creeks you can literally flip a coin across absolutely full of the nastiest snags you can possibly imagine. Fished the lake Michigan from shore in Indiana and Michigan for salmon and steelhead. Been Fishing lake Michigan for smallmouth around in and around rocks and brake wall pilings covered in razor sharp zebra muscles for over 25 years. Done over 20 Canadian fly in trips for trophy walleye and northern pike. Done dozens of fishing trips in the BWCA of Minnesota and Canada, USA side of Rainey Lakes and Mille Lacs. And lastly been fishing local lakes near my home 3-4 days a week from March till late September since the early 1960's. My point being I have an immense amount of experience with fishing line and fishing knots and in MY experience the type of fishing knot you use and how well you can tie a fishing knot is 10x more important than what type of fishing line you use. I have tried every major brand of monofilament and copolymer fishing line sold by Stren, Berkley/Trilene, Segar, Zebco, Suffix, P-Line and now Yo-Zuri. Absolutely nothing out there beats Yo-Zuri Copolymer or Trilene Big Game. Yes there are Mono lines as good as Yo-Zuri and Trilene BG but none better but for LESS THAN 2c a yard you just can not justify using fluorocarbon as fluorocarbon isn't stronger or tougher than straight mono of copolymer lines and costs 4x more at least.
First Comment: I don’t think you scored correctly on the stretch test. The least stretch should be the highest score. Second Comment: You used a weak knot. Third Comment: I think you should have added memory test.
I think he was saying the more stretch the more forgiving as in it stretches more before breaking. This would be best for treble baits to help with head shakes. JMO
Usually less stretch is better, better sensitivity, better hook sets, I mean if there's a situation where you want stretch then it would be good, but it's not the norm
Even if you wanted the least stretch there would be problems with this testing method. It should not be the least amount of stretch before breaking. Maybe the least amount of stretch for a certain poundage of pull. On top of that there is no way it is not a test of these peoples ability to tie a knot on these tests as I know for a fact these 10 lb lines are not breaking at 4 llbs.
I use Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs. I have straightened hooks out. I broke 4/0 heavy worm hook using the Sufix siege mono. I have a picture of the broken hook
You left out the toughest monofilament, Berkeley Trilene XT . I used it in salt water all the time for years . I caught a 38 lb Striper with it about twenty years ago in Great Egg Harbor Bay .
Everyone these days seems like they only use floro& & braid. I still use mono all the time, mostly in stained water, been using suffix lately. Mono doesn't float!
Great work. All line tests should include diameter measurements. American line manufacturers are rarely honest in that regard, especially with braid. Sometimes braids are as much as 200% of the advertised diameter.
Wrap the lines multiple times(10x) around before knotting to show line strength. Your demo is more about knot strength. BTW i use 17lb Trilene XL for my saltwater lure casting and always wrap twice through the eye before knotting. Pull in many times 40 lb wrays, 30lb stripers..have had rods break but not the line.
Not to be a hater but something is off here. Either you measured in kilograms by mistake of your knots were not very strong. No way each of those lines are breaking at less than half the break strength. More likely for them to be breaking at slightly above the stated break strength.
Appreciate the “not to be a hater” haha.. and I feel you.. tried to be as consistent as possible on these tests.. think the results were pretty consistent
The moment the lines break, the lines read higher pounds. But they were broken. Which is why I paused the exact last frame the scale was still up in the air/in tact
Yeah this test breaking point are way off. They most had kg set not lbs. 10lbs big game breaks around 13-14lb. you can look up multiple channels that does breaking test. How can you go with them numbers every brand breaking half what the brand has on it.
Kinda hard to use all 5 lines and catch the exact same fish to give an equal test on them. You can't test them on different fish or else the results will not be accurate. And depending on which line goes first, the fish fights the hardest so even if you manage to catch the exact same fish over and over again, he's weaker each time you catch him so the test will still be inaccurate.

I'd like to see a mono line memory test. Some lines lay on the water like a spring and others are straighter. Test that too.
Yup Trilene I have used for a few months now finally got of that Walmart stuff and it works dreams

Berkley Trilene XL WITHOUT a doubt!!

Pline CXX is Far Superior Then Trilene XT
I suspect the lines breaking at half of the line 10lb rating break at the knot and have to do with knot choice
Maybe.. used all the same knots for each test
It's the crank , they are burning the line as tension creates friction.
It's the crank, creating friction and burning against it's self.
Should I buy it in a clear color for surf fishing?
Sure
I have tried any lines and by far the Best is Pline CXX with a Palomar knot !!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🔥

🔥🔥🔥
I use the spider wire 8lb for salmon trout. really great line
There you go
My go to is zebco Omniflex or trilene xl there both really good for the price
I wish you would have included Stren Original Clear!?
😩😩
I wonder which one would cast farther
Coming this year…
Gut job jungs
How do we know we are being original trilene products? Market is full of duplicates
Good question haha.. just gotta send it

Stren original is best mono ! Priced better than XL and better !
I have used Stren & Trilene for Many Many years then buddy turned me on to Pline CXX I will never go back to any other line Period !!
Those breaking points look WAY off.

I think it's the way they tied to to the metal knob which appears to have some sharp corners. No way, 10 lb Big Game mono breaks at 5 lbs.
Anyone w/ exprience ..
New to fishing ,
What’s a good brand of monofilament 8lb fishing line for a 7foot rod ?
He said Honda accord 😂
Your tests are really inconclusive , there not done under fishing conditions.
