When Nightcrawler sacrificed himself to save Hope and using the last of his strength to teleport her back to Utopia. then telling her not to give up. Heart wrenching :(
everything about that comic broke me and still makes me feel sad (and also angry that they brought nightcrawler banck as a guy fine with killing their enemies)
dont forget her father Cable sacrificing himself right in front of her later in the story
The Silver Samurai isn't Mariko's father, he's her half-brother. DO YOU EVEN COMICS BRO!?
no because they misspelt "mystique!"
Although in the movie the Wolverine X-Men's Silver Samurai is the grand-father of Mariko who wants to take the youth of The Wolverine
You know they read a script bro and they make 100 of videos on multiple subjects i think your being a lil judgemental on a simple mistake
Gambit & Rouge kissing into Age of Apocalypse is still perfectly haunting
Jean forcing Cyclops to kill her before Dark Phoenix resurfaces... Where?
On the dark side of the moon
Urbano Quiroz - that didn’t happen. The Phoenix Force killed itself before it became corrupted again. Cyclops was not responsible for her death.
@@mikeosullivan101 uhh no duh but she was trying to get the x-men to kill her but they couldn't
Replaced by gay Iceman being gay
List doesn’t include Madrox absorbing his own son because his powers recognised him as a dupe, list is therefore wrong.
God, I remember that. Fucked me up.
Woah what book was that?
@@eleazarperezjimenez8360 I'm not sure, but I think it was part of the X-Factor run that took place around or during Messiah Complex. I was juggling a lot of different titles at the time.
Edit: Found it. It was X-Factor #39
@@EmphaticNod Thank you so much!
How can you possibly leave out the death of Jean Grey? I mean, the first time (I really wish I didn't have to say that, >sigh
probably just cuz they mention it so often in other lists
When the animated series was canceled. That was heart wrenching.
I personally cheered and threw a party.
“The series has always had a lot in common with soap opera drama...”
That’s supers comics in general.
The silver samurai wasn't Mariko's father, he was her half brother
IKR?
When X-23 lay beside her dead mother after learning her name
It's not just that they have Black Tom kill Sammy Paré aka Squid Boy, it's the way Black Tom kills him. I don't think Black Tom could've killed him in a more painful way even if he tried, and he did it in front of Juggernaut. Then having Sammy tell Juggernaut he hates him, and to me that moment is the cherry on top of a misery sundae. I still find it still very much gets to me and I read this story arc when it was first published in 2004.
About Cypher, the entire point of him (and the New Mutants in general) was that they weren't a team optimized for maximum battlefield utility; they were kids going to school, and they also had powers that led them into assorted adventures. Cypher's language ability was often useful, and part of the fun was telling stories about the New Mutants that were not standard battles against supervillains.
Cypher could also read body language and in later versions counter enemies before they made them. As well as pick up other clues or potential actions.
Shawn Allen - this was after his resurrection. Before his death he hadn’t developed his powers to that level.
Jean grey sacrifices herself on the moon.
Nightcrawler gets impaled in Second Coming
The issue of Ultimate X-Men where Wolverine shares a beer with a young mutant in a cave, then stabs him in the chest.
Ilyana dies with a Bamf doll in her arms
M Smitty27
I don’t remember that, why did Wolverine stab a young mutant?
Mr. Emerlad The Green the kid's mutant powers manifested and it was something like he emitted a toxic as that killed anyone in a certain radius. Nick Fury sent Wolverine to kill him, as he has a healing factor, but It wasn't brutal or anything. It was sad for Wolverine, sad for the kid. The kid accepted his fate because all he was just walking death. If you are interested I'm sure if you google "ultimate wolverine kills kid" you can find the scene. It was a one off story (more or less) so you don't need any background info. Edit: hope this link works but here it is imgur.com/gallery/I71V6
Everyone: Jean Grey sacrifices herself for her team members and let go of Phoenix after the Ress...
WhatCulture: CYCLOPS KILLS XAVIER IS THE MOST HEARTBREAKING MOMENT IN 616 X-MEN!
Wolverine killing Jean in New X-men #148 Magnetos betrayal from 147-149 the death of the hellions (not new xmen) the death if genosha. Grant Morrison really put it on in his run
The whole Iceman coming out thing felt cheap to me. An easy out to get more readers because they didn't have faith in their existing gay characters to sell comics.
I feel the same way!
Of course, What-Cuckture liked it.
Family guy predicted this
It made sense, however. They hinted at Iceman being gay from the beginning. When Jean arrived back in "X-Men" 1 the others were all excited and Iceman thought to himself something like "it's just a girl" and didn't understand all the excitement.
RajOfColumbus you mean the tv show predicted that?
Dudes... Striker is a reverend when introduced in God Loves, Man Kills
This guy knows his comics.
Wait why is no. 2 heartbreaking moment?
Because diversity.
Number One: Marvel Selling The Movie Rights
@I ture
Beat me to it
I the dark Phoenix looks good asf
Marvel making $25k on the first X-Men movie.
But nah, them selling the rights to the X-Men created too many problems that future movies couldn't make up for, like not putting the X-Men in the latest Marvel vs Capcom iteration and Disney ultimately not willing to do anything with the franchise because it meant competing with 20th Century Fox for profits.
I Great X-Men movies? All they care about is wolverine.
Breakworld is not a team. It is literally a world.
Making Iceman gay was a stupid idea. The reason he was exposed as mutant was because he was saving his girlfriend. They could have at least made him bisexual that would have made more sense.
Nightcrawler’s death after saving hope summers. It’s sad to see Wolverine blame hope for Kurt’s death
Illyana Rasputin's death from the Legacy Virus always hit home for me.
She got better.
You guys put that God awful Iceman retcon as number 2?!? Seriously?!?
Honestly I was surprised they made him gay although it feels weird since the older version was never gay in the past
Of course, What-Cuckture liked it.
Jean Grey made ice man gay by screwing with his head
@@oooldkel LOL that's not how sexually Works in real life the writers did that on purpose
Jeremy Valery Bendis wrote that crap. Marvel give this man too much power to do whatever he wanted and he abuse it. Now he doing the samething at dc comics. Stop giving this man power.
Okay, this list started out strong and then you just dropped the ball. How is Iceman coming out as gay heartbreaking, unless it's because of the terrible writing involved? You left off Nightcrawler getting killed protecting Hope, Mariko breaking up with Logan because she thinks she's not worthy, Magneto and Storm thinking he killed Kitty, and the list goes on. But the MOST heartbreaking moment is when Jean decides it is better to die a human than live as a god-like entity who would probably eventually kill everyone she loves.
#11 Psylocke losing her ninja thong. So many tears when this happened.
Wait what?
Professor x hasn't died any where near as many times as Jean. Just saying
Cable sacrificing himself at the end of X-cutioner's Song
Wolvie did the kid in a super-sad Ultimate x-men #41
Caliban at the end of Uncanny Annual 18 is another that got me
It never sat right with me how in Old Man Logan they made him powerful enough to single-handedly kill the entire X-Men team. I love wolverine, but it annoys me how OP they make him just to suit a story.
Adamantium claws in close range combat plus Mysterio was probably messing with their heads as well. I can see it.
wdcain1 Possibly but they had way too many heavy hitters in that shot that he killed. And there were also a few high-level telepaths that could have combated any mysterio could dish out.
@@remylabeau5140 One thing Mark Miller does is show that lots of super powers aren't that useful (see Giant Man and Insect Queen in the Ultimates). Even though the telepaths like Jean Grey and Xavier are powerful, they still have soft skin and all it would take is one swipe from Logan's claws to kill them.
Yes, some luck would be required so they wouldn't shut Mysterio or Wolverine down with a single thought but that was needed for the story so it's not that big of a shark jump for the story.
wdcain1 I don’t disagree. It’s just I don’t like the fact that one x-man was able to take out so many at once. And I know they have soft skin but when you have meetings with telekinesis and a ton of other x-men with long range attacks it seems unlikely. I can understand if he was able to kill one or a few, but all of them doesn’t seem like a possibility
Yep it's a total crock of shit
Wolverine killing Daken. The way that was written and the panels were just do expertly done to convey the pain in Wolverine for having to do what he did.
You mean when he suffocated him in a dirty pool?
Isn't the silver samurai Mario's brother, not her father?
Yes. Her father was Shingen Yashida.
Yep, half-brother
Yes half-brother..this is what happens when u use movies as cannon fact..
She had a name, you British nerds.
Mariko Yashida.
Dammn! Some of this moments got me crying all over again, thank you for that! Some moments I did not know so thank you for that to!! I guess what I am trying to say is thanks for the memories! lol
turning over the last page of 'age of apocolypse' and realising that it wouldn't be a continued series...i havn't read a comic since
William Stryker was always a reverend in the comics. They made him military in the movies to avoid losing money in ticket sales from religious movie fans who might feel offended by the character.
I mean most religious people are nutjobs. Justifying killing in "dA NaMe oF GaWd"
Kitty Pryde wasn’t dead in the bullet, she was trapped.
So many good moments mentioned in the video and in the comments...but the one moment that always stuck with me was the 2 issue LS run adjacent to Ghost Box, Astonishing X-Men. A crippled Wolverine, a mentally handicapped Beast, Armor as the caretaker moving them through a broken, dead world. When the futility of survival comes to a head, she kills Beast and sets a fire beneath Wolverine, eventually killing him too. Then wanders off to starve to death. Couple that with the whole "Infinite Cyclops's suiciding to power a planet" and it was a tough read.
10 - 3 was all I needed to see.
Striker was a reverend in the comics the whole time, you said the titles in the wrong order
I totally have a lot of hate 4 Stryker!
the mutant massacre and gambit basically being banished when the team found out about it
#2 Was heartbreaking for the wrong reasons: it breaked out hearts that Marvel greenlighted such a BS retcon like that.
Was thinking the same thing.
Of course, What-Cuckture liked it.
I think every one that died on your list came back to life. Kinda makes death rather blaze in Marvel Comics.
There's about 14 gay X Men....
North star
Blink
Wolverine in that one timeline...
But Iceman?!?!
DRACO FURY 13 it was always there tho
Rogue and Emma Frost commented on it in the 90s
But it wasn’t handled well. AT ALL
Blatant omissions:
Suicide of Phoenix?
Death of Jean Grey?
Thunderbird’s death?
Illyana’s death?
Cyclops having to send his toddler to the future to save his life?
Mariko leaving Wolverine at the alter?
The deaths in the original Days of Future Past storyline?
The mutant massacre?
The slaughter of Genosha?
I want it to be known I left a dislike for the absurdity of the placement of Iceman's coming out. It's not only a matter of it being too high, it's that it shouldn't be on the list at all.
Heartbreaking moment ? "the end" of Inferno saga when Madelyn Pryor ( as the Goblyn Queen ) died
5:55 Gotta point this out: Most of the characters shown stopping the bullet were hallucinating.
Lol bobby coming out wasnt sad. It was stupid in the way they did it.
hes my favorite character and what they did to him was straight bs
It really was.
Agreed. It was heartbreaking when you find out some SJW writer fucked up a classic character for the sake of social justice. Of course, What-Cuckture liked it.
SC Gaming it wasn’t straight bs it was gay bs
Forced gay. Can't create original gay character so they have to destroy it establish straight character to be gay just to please a few that never buy an X-Men comic ever!
How in the world do you not include the death of jean grey and the death of illyana? Maybe get some guys who actually read comics to come up with these lists.
Yeah seriously, there is none of the old stuff here. 1975-mid 90s is arguably the formative years for the team, it's a shame that period isn't really mentioned here. I mean, squidboy??? Really?
No more Mutants.
Cypher was supposed to be the everyman that the regular non powered reader could experience the story through.
The death of the Greys
The death of Colossus damn near killed me because he's me favorite X-Men character of all time.😭
I absolutely love Kitty Pryde!!!
Kitty never actually died, she used her powers to their fullest extent to phase the bullet through earth and got stuck inside it by doing so.
Xavier was so irrelevant by the time of AvX that his death hardly felt like anything.
The death of Illyana Rasputin from Legacy Virus issue for top Heart breaking moment if not for The revolving door of death
definitely old man Logan for me
but hearing about squid boy, DAMN!
Oh heck you, we loved Cypher from like his third appearance on. :-P
I'd forgotten about squid boy... damn that's rough
Nobody cared when Xavier died. #CyclopsWasRight
Did you forget when Magneto pulled out all the metal out of Wolverine or when Professor X became Onslaught.
For such a somber video on such a somber subject the music seems like almost the direct opposite in the background. So odd......
The end of the Onslaught saga. Xaviers speech to Franklin after the death of his family
Poor Kiity
The most heartbreaking moment in X-Men Marvel History was the suicide of Larry Bodine.
Panthro Samah - Great addition to the list. Phenomenally powerful issue.
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Shadowcat didn't die she became infused with the bullet. It was a few years later (probably a year in the comics) where Magneto rescued Shadowcat
Shocked you didn’t mention the time a kid accidentally killed his entire town using his mutant power
It is hard to keep a touching moment with the murders...cause all of them were brought to live again!!! Except for mariko
Also the 90’s cartoon the last episode
8:14 😮😲😱☠️⚰️ I'd heard but dang! 😔
Moira was trying to find a cure before she became sick. Her infection was not the cause of her efforts.
Wolvie and Mariko💔💔💔💔
*Number 1:* Deadpool has said the N-Word in front of Wolverine and fades away.
LOL, not only he killed the Marvel Universe, but he drops the N-bomb.
No mention of the mutant Dennis Hopper being murdered in front of the X-Mansion in _X-Men Prime_ at all? Shameful.
No, the Iceman solo series was NOT amazing. Never trust when a telepath whispers life-altering secrets in your ear...
0:42 😂😂😂
So Warlock dying during the early part of The X-tinction Agenda doesn't make the list? Kids these days...smh
It's Mystique not Mistique.
Uncanny X-men 137 the end had me in tears
Number 2: Cmon naw dawg smh
Mariko.
Pronounced similarly to Mahr-eek-oh/Mah-reek-oh. Not "Marie co".
wanderlustwarrior I first read your comment and thought you might be exaggerating. How would anyone mispronounce this fairly well known name? Well seems that you’re absolutely right. He totally butchered her name.
damn
The ending of Logan. Do I need to say anything more?
Yeah but you missed the part when he said in comics not movies..
This was so poorly researched... Silver Samurai was not Mariko's father, as others have said. Moira was not Xavier's love. They were former lovers who had long broken up - before the founding of the X-men, even - but had remained friends/colleagues afterward. She and Banshee were the ones in the on-and-off relationship throughout her appearances in the comics.
There's tons of sadder moments not listed here. How about Madeline Pryor's complete mental breakdown and psychic fever dream following the reveal that she was nothing but a clone of Jean Grey, genetically engineered just so that her womb could be used to incubate a child with Jean and Scott's DNA? She finds out she's not a person, believes no one cares about her, and loses everything; her husband, child, sanity, and finally, her life.
I am an XMAN!!
It’s Mystique, not Mistique.
I like the Marvel vids , but maybe make a DC one again!
Cyclops was right
And I nearly cheered when he killed Xavier.
Charles Xavier has not died in the comics as many times as you make it sound. In fact, showing film deaths confuses the issue - the list is about the comics, not films - so why show the films?
In the mainstream reality, Xavier has died twice: Xavier faked his death in X-Men #42, and he was actually killed in Legion Quest (which was undone by the end of Age of Apocalypse).
Not counting times when he was killed in storylines that were almost immediately undone (Secret Wars 1984, Infinity Gauntlet, etc.)
Bro so much of this is straight up wrong. First of all Doug was never just a side character if you read New Mutants he was actually a main character for a lot of it. He was a crucial part of the team it’s just some fans at the time thought he was lame. Second of all Rahne was not Doug’s girlfriend I don’t even think they had any romantic connection at all. And third Doug was not a coward in my reading at least he was always trying to get in on the action and was distracted and insecure cause his abilities were non-offensive.
Also Silver Samurai is not Mariko’s father
This dude make to many videos...
How did none of Jean Grey’s death make this list????
How is illyana dying of the legacy virus not nr.1 ?
So many errors and omissions in this video (what I’ve pointed out and others). It really is a shame.
i still maintained bobby coming out wasn't sad at all but bullshit and stupid.
So iceman is gay out of nowhere what the hell
Bobby being gay I don't acknowledge... Didn't happen, he had the hots for Starfire... Thats the Bobby I know..
It is stupid and cheap.
Starfire doesn’t exist in the Marvel Universe, she’s a DC character. I assume you mean Firestar... and gay men have forced themselves into straight romances since the beginning of time
rexington john This isn’t about gay men forcing themselves to be in straight romances since the beginning of the time. This is about a straight character being unbelievably retconned as gay to pander to the gay audience.
BijinXOXO - there were hints allllllllllllll the way back in X-Men #1 in 1963. There are scores of gay people who explore heterosexuality before finally coming out. Many even go through with marrying women and having children before coming true to themselves and others. Iceman’s coming out is not that unrealistic.
Michael O'Sullivan Hints like what? And again, this isn’t about ‘scores of gay people who explored heterosexuality before finally coming out’ and it’s not about if it’s believable in general. It’s about if it’s believable for this particular character, which imo it is not. It’s a total retcon. Sometimes retcons work and sometimes they just don’t.
