What you fail to realize is that social networking sites have been around since the '90s, one of the first was Six Degrees...!
You had a factual error with regard to the comet. It was the first JET airliner, propeller powered airliners had been in use for at least 2 decades before it
The Deloreon is an iconic car but it bombed. The car looked like it can go fast but the performance is just sad.
I heard they never got it even close to 80 on the set of Back to the Future. The amount of shit people dumb on this car is legendary. If it wasn't for the movie, everyone would've forgotten about it.
That's a damn shame
The creator of the DeLorean also used the money for his drug habits
@@meanguyy2 Incorrect. Do your research. He was framed by the FBI in a drug trafficking sting, and later acquitted.
There is still a warehouse with DeLorean parts and if you wanted one they can build one for you. I think they had enough car parts to build over 500 cars.
Well at least the DeLorean will always be remembered, if only in a movie, but a good one.
@Bread And Circuses better than being forgotten
@@isaacvitela5131 Now that we have the technology and corporations have even more ridiculous money, i would definitely buy a DeLorean that's been updated and improved to at least that of a 2010 Civic or Corolla. Same beautiful body, just update the rest
@@joseguadalupemartineztorre9702 that would be nice.... if the company was still around today
As an avid moviegoer for the past 21 years the Movie Pass was good in concept. However on there and you have to consider the business costs as indicated.
The Delorean was obviously better at time travel than normal travel 😊
9:28: The DMC car🚗.
😲 I recognize that.
In the real-life action "Back to the Future" movies🎦, the DMC car🚗 is a time⏰ machine⚙.
The train🚆 chase is my favorite 😍.
The 3D-cartoon "Meet the Robinsons" movie🎦 has UFO🛸 time⏰ machines⚙
In love with your emojis? Or do you just think you’re being clever? You’re not!
@@keythdanielsen5533
I am so
@@ShawnPickettPauley well that convinced me!
On the Juicero, it wasn’t that juicing could be done by hand, it was that the machine itself did NOTHING. It did not prepare anything. It was a huge boondoggle. As was discovered, you could either use the machine or simply buy the juice packets separately and squeeze them to dispense your own juice. It was like paying for an overblown dispenser. Also, the owner of the company was completely toxic to all his employees and didn’t believe in any ideas unless they came from him.
Boondoggle. 🤣 Been awhile since I heard that. 🙂
@@USNCBSLIXXX I was quoting the vice story on Juicero. Worth a watch. 💯
But it had wifi capabilities.. haha
Watchmojo already did this video several years ago but I'm still watching this
If it did actually operate like a Kuerig where there was a water addition to concentrate, and even better, the ability to customize multiple ingredients (for example - 2 pods strawberry, 1 pod banana, 1 pod kiwi), I think it could have been very successful. But you're absolutely right, the unit as it was designed was laughable... to the point where many industry insiders have called it a deliberate scam.
I never even realized until now that the time machine/DeLoreon's tendency to break down at inopportune moments in Back to the Future was a jab at the DeLoreon's reputation for being unreliable. The DeLoreon - looks like a time machine; often doesn't actually start.
The car was used in the film because of its joke status.
The Delorean company also went under due to the founders coke addiction. He committed tax evasion and stole millions from the company to fund his addiction. The company literally went up his nose. He was acquitted of all charges though
Incorrect. Do your research. He was framed by the FBI in a drug trafficking sting, and later acquitted.
You'd think WatchMojo would have said something about that huh?
@@gothix5868 You would think that since he was acquitted of all those charges that geeksimmer
would not have been so definitive about them since it was shown that he was framed
@Bread And Circuses It was shown at his trial that the other car manufacturers framed DeLorean to make his company go under to avoid his competition with them
I went to a church in NYC that Delorean attended after his supposed conversion. Sorry. I never bought it. He clearly tried to sell drugs to save his faltering company and was in no way entrapped.
Your comments on the DeHavilland Comet are slightly misleading. The airframe itself was fine, but the lack of understanding of metal fatigue that was caused by putting in square windows into the airframe, was the problem. The pressures on the airframe met up on each of the corners of the square windows, which caused hairline cracks over time, which in turn caused the aircraft to come apart. This is why aircraft have oval windows now. An expensive lesson.
Hey, WatchMojo. You forgot to mention the Amiga CD32. British computer company Commodore was struggling throughout the 1980's and early 1990's, so they were going to focused on the video game console market with the Amiga CD32. It was released in September 1993 in Europe and Canada. It was scheduled to launch in the United States in early 1994 but it never came to fruition as Commodore needed to pay $10 million in back-owed patent royalties. The 32-bit game console bombed so hard it was discontinued after 8 months on the market in April of 1994, resulting in Commodore filing for bankruptcy soon after. It is a shame really.
The youtuber Angry Videogame Nerd did a video about this
@@manueltapia1859Maybe if they’d concentrated on patent royalties instead of patient royalties everything would’ve been ok.
thanks for mentioning!
I was just gonna say, the Amiga CD32 literally destroyed one of the biggest computer companies of the 80s, and it didn't even get an honorable mention.
You touched a still-painful spot in my Amigan heart. Commo were better engineers than businesspeople.

The DeLorean, the iconic car from Back to the Future trilogy.
The comet addition caught me off guard. Also it wasnt the first commercial airliner but it was the first jet commercial airliner
ooops, small error , thanks for joining the ranks of the Ballistic Repliers.
Here's the comment I was looking for!
9:23 Back To The Future is Number 1 on this List and it's a timeless classic to watch and enjoy.
Back to the Future is overrated. It's actually not a very good movie at all.
@Bread And Circuses I had actually never seen it until about 2 years ago. About halfway through I pretty much quit paying attention. It was extremely cheesy and flat out corny.
@Bread And Circuses Now Indiana Jones is definitely worth a watch. At least 3 of them. And, I lived in that era of BTTF. I just didn't watch it when it came out because it didn't look interesting to me. My intuition about it was correct.
I remember the movie pass. We actually used it a lot. And all of a sudden, the password for it changed on its own.
Yeah what a dick move that was i mean what did he expect to happen in reseting the password for most active users
I can't believe such a service even existed. 31 movies a month?! I assume the business model was setup similar to an insurance company where the company hopes that only a few users will actually use the service while the rest pay into it but don't use it. Unlike an insurance Company though there was no deductible. At 31 movies a month there's no way they would ever get the finances of the company balanced. The expenses sound like they would be 10x what the revenue wad. Then resetting the passwords sounds like straight up fraud.
My grandad has two Deloreans and has made several attempts to purchase a third (don't ask me why because I don't know the answer.) Anyway, riding in those things is terrifying - especially with my grandfather (world champion of reckless driving). It feels like you're way below every other vehicle on the road and are about to get run completely over.
He's obviously making a time machine, dude. He even has enough foresight to know he'll have to build more than one prototype!
As an aviation fan, the de Havilland comet was a nice addition, BUUUT
buuut what?.
@@rustythecrown9317 they said it was the first commercial airliner, (i dont know which aircraft that was but definitly not the comet), they likely wanted to say "first commercial jet airliner" which it definitly was
@@chheinrich8486 a small hiccup in their delivery and everyone piles on like they're all perfect. smh
@@rustythecrown9317 im not complaning, just laughing🤣
Was the comet the one where the windows ended up being the problem? I mean the video mentions about the other manufactures learned from the mistake but doesn't bother to mention what the mistake was, and it sounds familiar to when I saw before about the shape of windows on planes.
It's true that the Delorean is one of the worst cars ever made but Back To The Future made it more than iconic, the car in BTTF made absolute cinematic history!
Watch MOJO has come a long way. Not just from the very beginning, but back in 2013ish when one of the first videos I watched was a wrestling related one. Keep growing! ❤️
thanks!
One of the most significant product failures that tanked the company is the Capacitance Electronic Disc aka CED/VideoDisk by the Radio Corporation of America or RCA.
I think most people today would have never even heard of the Delorean if it wasn't for Back To The Future.
I've never even heard about any of these... except the Deloean, obviously.
Only because Back To The Future trilogy makes it iconic.
A Delorean owner could, for a few hundred dollars, purchase what essentially amounts to an upgrade package, which could be installed easily by most any mechanic. The upgrade gives the DMC the power, Speed, and expected fuel mileage that would make this gull winged car what it was supposed to originally be. The looks, and the performance
"First commercial Airliner 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no it was not it was the first jet Airliner
Honestly the Ford Edsel should've been no.1 Overhype and its disappointing looks and features not only hurt ford badly, it killed the Edsel Brand
Asian Dude slapping down a tax book: *"FINANCIAL DAMAGE!"*
The DeLorean in the back to the future movies is great. 😀👍
Film Back to the future 4 next on.😀
The DeLorean. An underpowered engine. Poor handling. Safety issues. The stainless steel frame was impossible to keep clean.
Lizard Brain: Yeah, but I still want one.
Love that they used footage from the Onion when talking about Friendster
the Delorean failed due to John Delorean's drug habit fit and finish issues etc. oh and being overpriced for its time $25,000 1981 dollars is 80,500 in 2023 money same price as a mid optioned Chevrolet Corvette stingray
Incorrect. Do your research. He was framed by the FBI in a drug trafficking sting, and later acquitted. But yes, it was overpriced.
I remember Quibi. I hated those commercials, honestly. Glad they're gone.
Remember the OUYA?
Everybody loves dissing DeLorean. I've heard of Monster: In fact, I vaguely recall trying it back in my job search days.
As someone who owned a delorean, yes they were lackluster engineered products of there time. But I did enjoy driving mine. Still got attention a lot.
Juicero's main flaw was that the thing literally just squeezed the packages into a glass, which is ludicrously over-engineered. If it did actually operate like a Kuerig where there was a water addition to concentrate, or even better, the ability to customize multiple ingredients (for example - 2 pods strawberry, 1 pod banana, 1 pod kiwi), I think it could have been very successful.
What WatchMojo fails to realize is that social networking sites have been around since the '90s, one of the first was Six Degrees...!
The DMC DeLorean, a 130 hp sports car, LOL.
How was there an aviation industry at the turn of the 20th century when the Wright Brothers iconic flight was in the first decade of the 20th century?
I remember having Friendster and editing the page to have some cool backgrounds and music
Awesome But Impractical products in a nutshell.
Looks like you took some time on TV Tropes, didn't you?
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the paid version of Napster. Launched with much fanfare after the file-sharing version was shut down (where thieves such as myself downloaded thousands of free songs. Conscience finally got the best of me and I wanted to stop feeling guilty. So I quit using it). But it never took off. I don’t know if it’s still around or what Shawn Fanning is up to. But it was a big dud. Hope all the enthusiastic investors didn’t lose too much money.
I love that you used clips from The Onion at no.3. It gave me a good laugh, perfectly done hahaha
I was hoping someone else would catch that
@@Silverude I recognised the actors who play the tv hosts right away lol.
Gotta love The Onion 🧅😂💯
Fun fact: The DeLorean was chosen for the movie because it was so bad, they could gut it without making it worse.
There is a gold DeLorean 1 of 2 made in the Peterson museum
I don't care what anyone says the DeLorean is the best thing from Back to the Future and I don't care that they say it's a bomb of trash
With these products what amuses me even more than someone saying, "Y'know what would be a great idea?" is the C-tier exec that said "Brilliant! Let's do that!" Cheers....
I miss Quibi. I loved it. I never watched on my phone. I would cast to my TV. I think Roku bought all the programming because all the shows can now be watched on the Roku channel.
I remember creating a friendster account during my elementary days.
That be cool to have today I never knew this thing was around but that be cool to have the day for a lot of people especially businesses and stuff
R/hadastroke.
Imagine how forgotten Deloreans would be now if the time machine had been a fridge like in the original script og bttf...
The first time I saw Quibi I thought to myself OMG what a dumb idea 🙄
The screen aspect ratio switching was a gimmick nobody cared about and too expensive to produce movies for.
famous last words: "But it seemed like such a good idea at the time!"
ET not only it destroyed the Atari company, it it destroyed the gaming franchise and competition.
And now everyone wants a Delorean
I always wanted a Delorean. I remember the expectations when it came out--car mags were pitting it against Porches and other sports cars. But I don't hear the DeLorean mentioned in the same breath as the Pinto or Edsel, so it can't be that bad! 😆
"When this baby hits 88 mph, ur gonna see some serious sh*t" 9:22
The DMC 12 is not a failure. In fact, you can still buy a new one today. Factory fresh...from Texas.
I love that people shit on the deloreon but we would all jump on it if it was given to us
Never heard of any of these except #1
Delorean’s real life car sales should’ve gone 88 mph 😎✌️🔥🏎️💨
It was $30k in the early ‘80s, when most cars cost $8k-$10k. Fun fact: due to a Jimmy Carter rule (and a silly one), the speedometer stopped at 80mph, so for the film they had to make a new one that went to 120. The silliness: by stopping the speedometer at 80, it would stop speeding. 🤦♂️
De Havelland Comet was the worlds first commercial JET plane. There was dozens on commercial ones decades earlier.
Hey Andrew, you forgot to mention The Sharper Image and it’s failed attempt with the ionic breeze. It was such a disaster that The Sharper Image closed all of their stores and filled for bankruptcy.
No I remember this one very well yeah you had to buy subscription packets and that's the reason it's no longer around but it's kind of funny that there's juicing companies like that out to day this don't have that same process and I don't
For Movie Pass: how can they just legal change password and not allow people to change their own password back to the original password?
The Dekorian A Traveled......Travekd THROUGH TIME!!!!
the Delorean IS a kind-of time machine, now... heheh
WELL THE DELOREAN WILL BE REMEMBER FOR TIME TRAVEL!
Delorean made a HUGE mistake by not reading US regulations for cars. As a result the bumper height was way too low, so rather than a complete redesign DURING production, they simply jacked the cars up which ruined the handling. Plus they needed to put in a catalytic converter, which nerfed the V6. (Back to the Future had serious problems with the car since all the parts they put on it increased the weight and made the engine even worse, so for the sequels they figured out a Porsche Boxer engine barely fit into the engine bay, but definitely improved performance.
it's not the catalytic converter that made the V6 perform poorly. it was the choice of v-6 engines. they were overbudget and went with a cheap low performance engine.
As I recall, the Comet had its problems fixed (windows), and continued life as a military plane? Company was bought out and subsumed into a larger entity. Not technically a failure.
I know it didn't put Google out of business (obviously) but I think Stadia deserves some kind of honorable mention on this list.
Nah, Google starts projects that got canceled every other week.
You should do a Daria list :)
now if we can only convince other arms manufacturers to put themselves out of business
🎉awesome
I have to shop it cut it up ,wash it ...shouldn't wash it be before cutting it ? Even the commercial was a fail 🤣🤣
One good thing about moviepass was that it inspired movie chains to create their own (some good & some "huh")
8:19 they didn't make the first commercial airplane. That was made long before this. They made the first commercial jet plane. Planes up to that point were all propellers, and de Havilland made the first jet. Do your research!
There's a new delorean being made and u can preorder it now
If you look up "irony" in the dictionary you'll see a picture of the DeLorean lol. It's a car that is unanimously hated for being what it is: a car. But is widely loved and sought after for being a pop culture icon. The DeLorean is now one of the most recognizable vehicles in the world thanks to a single movie and a supreme collectors item worth a lot of money. A DMC-12 in perfect condition sold for $240+ thousand just a few years ago. Not a bad price for such a POS car lol.
Qubi didn't dissolve, Roku bought it out and made it their Roku Original segments.
I loved the concept of Quibi. I never watched on my phone. I would cast it to my TV and watch like that.
You forgot Atari when launched Atari Jaguar in 1996 was a failure and the company never recovered!!! Was shadowed by Sony and Nintendo.
Delorean went under because they rushed production and didn’t take the time to correct flaws before going to market.
De Havilland still exists in Canada and is still making the Dash 8
Okay hold up. The DELOREAN IS A MASTERPIECE OF A CAR AND WAS FEATURED IN ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME, Back to the Future!! I rode in one and it was SO AWESOME!!!! That far doesn’t suck. It’s a masterpiece of time.
Did you drive it? I'm going to assume you didn't drive it.
Its a looker but its one of the most terrible cars mechanically
As a CAR, it was terrible
No I didn’t drive it but I rode in it dressed AS MARTY MCFLY FOR HALLOWEEN!!
2:34 Why have a handle like that?
Man, i used to use Friendster
DNA production studios movie the ant bully bombed so hard the company went bankrupt.
Not directly on point; but the Perry Drugs drugstore chain (200 stores in Michigan alone) committed commercial suicide by adding an automobile parts department in each store. Like I wanted to buy auto parts while having a prescription filled.
We did something like that in Sweden some years ago. There was a drive to colocalize the liqour stores with the drugstores. There is some scientific foundation behind doing such things. It's called the cluster principle.
Anyway, that was a very practical move, since people could buy their booze and head ache pills at the same place, at the same time, but we also got quite a few good laughs out of it...
Today because of failure if de havilland comet, we are able to travel safely in Jets
Turns out The DeLorean President/owner
Was packing coke in it
Incorrect. Do your research. He was framed by the FBI in a drug trafficking sting, and later acquitted.
Wow I literally was looking at my old pictures from phone last night and I founded the picture I took of a Deloreon that I took on the week of the events of Back 2 The Future 2. And now today these the thumbnail.. ok
I saw someone driving a DeLorean within the past 10 years. I think it was in 2015.
I looked and said...Doc? Marty?
..you should've stopped them and said, "I need to get back to the year, 1985"....
It looked like MoviePass didn’t bomb but sold more movies than it could afford
They were probably banking on people only occasionally using the service.
But some people were making sure to get the maximum out of the service. The simple solution was to just lower the amount of movies you could see, instead of trying to cheat people.
Driving in my Delorean with 140 kph(88 mph)!
Quibi came out at the wrong time
It's not that the DeLorean was bad, it was just not worth what they were charging for it. It's a testament to John DeLorean's ego and needing to get revenge at GM for firing him. His marketing department's own survey's showed that there was a market for maybe 10,000 cars/year, but he needed to be in the 100,000 cars/year bracket to make his point. He therefore sucked money out of the British government (the plant was built in Belfast N. Ireland) and further went into massive debt to build a production facility capable of doing the larger number. His marketers were right about the market size and JLD was sitting on a massive debt with only enough income to make maybe 10% of the payments. His attempt to make an illicit cocaine deal to save his skin wound up putting him in prison.
Despite the poor build quality, the car had potential and could have been sorted out over a couple of years to be worth the price; especially if they got rid of that PRV station wagon V6 and put a proper motor in it.
THE DELOREAN IS BETTER SUITED FOR TIME TRAVEL!
There's actually a company in the US that redoes the delorean fixing all the problems it had
Theranos?
What was the purpose of resetting the passwords?
Imagine Doc and Marty chose the Trans Am over DMC
Then they would have been in Smokey and the Bandit instead.
