How To Restoration a GM Power Steering Pump ?

- Hello friends, have a good day
Following the restoration of the 1975 Chevrolet 250 six-cylinder engine, I made a video of the restoration of the GM power steering pump from the beginning of opening to complete closing.
Decide how you want to rebuild the pump. If the internal parts are not scored or worn, you can install a rebuild kit. If the reservoir is not bent or cracked but the pump needs rebuilding, you can exchange the pump and use the old reservoir. Or you can exchange the old pump assembly for a remanufactured pump assembly.
And What damages steering pump?
Anything that restricts the flow of fluid through the system such as kinked tubes can overwork the pump and cause it to fail prematurely. Holding the steering wheel all the way to one side for more than a couple seconds causes excessive pressure buildup and could damage the pump.

that was well done I am 72 and this is how it was back in the late sixties , we rebuilt master cylinder wheel cylinders water pumps alternators generators power steering pumps and steering gears 2 speed auto transmission's and three on the tree manual transmissions , miss those days
@@oldbiker9739 I am so glad that you are talking to me about your mechanical memories
I wish I was in the 60s
You gave me the motivation to accomplish this job. I will order the rebuild kit, NOW. Thanks for your video!

me too
If you look at the part of the video where you pull the internal collar out, you will notice the arrow pointing “down” towards the fluid passage. Meaning when you reinstalled it pointing “upwards” it was installed opposite of it original orientation. I think those 3 grooves are there to provide fluid passage to from the center housing. You installed it backwards and instructed the audience to do the same. Otherwise excellent video!
@@andrewbugno1417 Thank you for your attention
If you mean the cylinder, yes, the purpose of the arrow pointing outward is according to the pump manufacturer's instructions, and its direction up or down does not make a difference in the pump's operation.
Nice video on the power steering pump I have about 30 of them I have collected over the years... As spares
Thank you my friend for your support
gracias muy bien explicado sin necesidad de hablar muy amable dios lo bendiga 😂

Hi, Great Video! What are You using as a parts cleaning solvent? What are You using as a seal lubricant? And is there any certain direction that the ten (10) impeller tips should fit in the impeller? Any information that You can supply is appreciated. Thank You
Hello dear friend, thank you for your comment
I use diesel fuel for washing because the part remains greasy after washing
And for the direction of the pump blades, if I leave them all in a place with a mark when removing them, until I assemble them, I will return them to the first place in the same order.
Or if the order is messed up, I put the semicircles of the blades on the outside
I use hydraulic or engine oil for lubrication
Thank You for Your help.

do the figure 8 when sanding the back plates for the vane s
@@oldbiker9739 yes sir I did this before, but in this part, the sanding was narrow, and the movement radius of 8 was not possible
@@Mechanicaltricks under stood and agree with you
@@oldbiker9739 thanks
Do you have a part number for the O-Ring kit?
@@SNWxGaming Unfortunately I don't have it, but I'll find it for you.
@Mechanicaltricks I'd appreciate that 🙏
@ you are welcome
Is this pump for many years?
Yes, for about 49 years
@@Mechanicaltricks thank you for your answer
@@KindMother you are welcome
Me pueden regalar el número de reten tengo una blazer y se me daño el retén y no tiene el número
Where does the magnet go??
@@hudmonsterproductions2229 in the reservoir wall from the inside
Same question here?
@ I stuck it to the side of the oil tank.
Pregunto, para qué el imán?
@ Debido al funcionamiento y la fricción entre las piezas metálicas, se producen virutas muy finas que, si no se filtran, provocarán un fallo prematuro de la bomba.
Entonces estos imanes actúan como filtros.
