  • You asked Questions and I am gladly answering them in this cozy Q&A video while painting a portrait! This video is very informative, I am sharing a lot about myself and I enjoyed making it so much, I might make another one in the future. Feel free to ask me anything in the comments section.
    Regarding the painting, this is the first try making a watercolour painting in years and I lack skills, that's why the colours got muddy, but luckily I went in with Gouache, Acrylics and Coloured pencils and managed to fix the hair 😄

    Wow, was für ein tolles Ergebnis! Immer wenn ich Leuten zusehe, die Aquarell und Gouache benutzen, habe ich wieder total Lust meine Farben auszupacken. Dann fange ich eine Skizze an um dies umzusetzen und ende doch wieder bei Markern....

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 года назад +1

      Aber das ist doch voll toll! Ich bin ein riesen Fan von Markern, also wenn andere sie benutzen, das Ergebnis ist immer super, ich kriege es bis heute nicht hin, dass etwas Schönes dabei zustande kommt. Deshalb will ich dringend mehr üben, Marker haben so viele Vorteile, gerade wenn es schnell gehen muss! Tausend Dank für deine lieben Worte, und mach Dir bitte keinen Kopf wenn es nicht immer auf Anhieb so wird wie man es sich vorstellt. Wir setzen uns oft selber Regeln in den Kopf, wie „ich darf nur Gouache benutzen“ - am Ende zählen der Spaß und die Freude!

    The hair looks soo good! Hearing about your former job, I tried to remember the last time I bought greeting cards and I think it was for Christmas? It really isn't lucrative anymore.
    Speaking in English for a video is so hard for me, even though I do speak English every day. I loose words and stutter, so I know I have to practice more.

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 года назад

      It's so true, many people don't even buy Greeting Cards for Birthdays and other big events anymore, but my old company was in denial about it. I personally love Postcards and Greeting Cards, but only the ones I find aesthetically pleasing. They wanted to cover the wide masses with mediocre designs and they were afdraid to do outstanding, modern and creative things because it did not sell, but the reason was not the beautiful products my workmates and I created but the poor marketing (nonexistant or aimed at older folks who are oldschool and buy cards but have a different taste - but that group is already covered by hundreds of other companies). Anyway, thank you so much for your kind words and about the speaking english thing: once I press REC I start to stutter or go mute, my editing takes so long because of it 😂❤️

    The art piece you worked on was absolutely stunning and now I am on a mission to watch more of your videos. I love learning about the artists and appreciate you taking the time to share so much about you, I find it inspiring when I feel like I can relate to fellow artists. I did the same thing as you going into graphic design because of the 'starving artist' mentality taught and I have been teetering myself on the idea of trying out videos on youtube. I hear so many times about people like you and I who do Graphic Design as a substitute / next best thing for an actual art career! Doing RUclips isn’t easy but I encourage every one who considers it to at least try it - you can work on and upload just one video to see what the entire process is like from start to finish! There really is a place for everyone in the artist community and every one is free to do it, and if it you learn you do not enjoy it no harm done, you can put it on private any time. Besides, I think most of us art nerds on YT never thought a single person would even watch our video and then we are super surprised that someone stumbled upon us and all the encouraging words! The channels I love and enjoy the most are often times real people who have not a massive following anyway, we all click with a different personalities. Sorry for the ramble, I appreciate your comment so much, especially now that I am not in the best place, it means so much 🥹🙏

    I only found your channel a few weeks ago, but I’ve been loving your content. I think your love of your current job is absolutely amazing. The way you describe it makes it sound so awesome. I completely understand the frustration of a creative career. I was a copywriter and, like graphic design, you are told by others what to write, and then blamed if the world doesn’t like it, even though you were only creating what you were told. It was very draining. I too am quite the introvert :)

My current job is, too, but at least it is a really good cause and I get to be with amazing people! I actually feel inspired when I watch videos like this of aspiring artists like you. It's fascinating to watch an artist grow and get to know them and their style.
    And your videos have a very professional touch! I can totally relate to you about an art shop in the future and not feeling quite there yet. I also think you should take your time in becoming confident in your own style. Sometimes I still have the feeling of "being afraid to start drawing" because I pressure myself too much. Then again, I work as a full-time graphic designer so as you said it drains a lot of energy 🤣 Your videos motivate me a lot to move my a**! I'm impressed by you using mostly gouache, such a strong media. Aren't faces the most satisfying motives?! Really looking forward to seeing more of your art 🙃 Selly

It's so great to learn of another Graphic Designer who does Art and struggles with not feeling quite there yet. I appreciate your support so much and hope your job as a graphic designer will become more fullfilling and less stressful, and I wish you so much that you find satisfaction in being a creative minus the pressure of feeling like you are only valid if you "move your ass". You have a hard job yet you pursue a creative life outisde of work, too. That's impressive and I hope you see that you are already doing such an amazing job! ❤️

    Wow you did an amazing job with this piece. Do NOT underrate your work. You have a very unique style that would sell very easily in a gallery/art show. I love the colours you used and how you blended them without it becoming a muddy mess. Great job!! Like you I'm very much an introvert but that's why I LOVE art. It allows me to immerse myself into something without having to worry that someone is watching me and demanding me to change this or that. Art is very subjective and most people know that. Heck just splatters on a canvas can sell for millions. Current artists that I enjoy watching or learning from are the humble artists like yourself, Grigory Peppo, Maddy Bellwoar (both of which I know very well) as well as Summer on Twitch. In regards to classical art I love so many as each have their own unique style so it makes it hard to choose one over the other. I'm getting into inking comics at the moment so I'm following a few inkers who explain their method and what they use to recreate someone else's work such as Jim Lee, David Finch, Jimmy Reyes etc... Inking someone else's work gets you out of your comfort zone as you need to be able to interpret what the artist wants, so you have to be imaginative without ruining their line work and ensuring they like what you do. It can be very difficult and pressure is not on your side as they have to have pages out very quickly. Anyway I loved this video and you did an amazing job on your painting. I've made sure the notification bell is on so when you produce another video I'll know immediately. Keep it going as I can see your channel growing quickly! Who knows... maybe one day I'll start live streaming RUclips. 😬😊 💖

    Not overworked at all! Another stunning piece! Color selection and composition work really well together. I find you on my list of those who inspire me. I resonate with a lot of things you said… corporate jobs are often a nasty business, because they lack appreciation for their employees, and they only care about money.. they don’t value hard workers. It is a sad state of affairs when quality people are crushed by unrealistic demands from people who only value money. They don’t care who gets trampled along the way. You are very talented and it’s admirable of you to step away from that former job to do something where you are valued. I can relate with the difficulties of working and straddling the fence when it comes to how far you will take your art and artistic ability. This piece is better than most! It isn't overworked! I was watching thinking I need to work mine more. I always get it to where it's OK but then get too scared to mess it up and don't take those extra steps. I love the colors, the makeup the face and hair especially! Stunning dear stunning!

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 года назад +1

      Hey Stacey! Your comment is so so super kind and sweet! I want you to know that I can relate so much with what you said about being scared to mess up a painting! I used to stop when I was kinda content and then later I would often think, maybe I should have added this or that. And these days I am trying to push myself a little further, but tbh I have NO idea what I am doing and I am just kinda winging it. Sometimes it works but many times those additional extra steps ruin a painting and I panic. I stead of just stopping I come back to it some time later and try to fix things (usually with permanent covering paint like acrylic gouache). Failures and experiments are really important. I have another video about this very subject where I also explain my painting process. ruclips.net/video/tK51ZTj0NQ0/видео.html Anyway, thank you so much for your sweet comment and for taking your time to share this! 🥹❤️

    Wow, this piece turned out SO stunning. I know you said you overworked it but the skin looks so smooth and the line art is just... chef's kiss! I'm sorry I missed the premier, this QandA has so much good stuff packed into it.
    I think it's incredible that you help people in such an amazing way for a living, it sounds hard but also incredibly to make that kind of difference in someone's life. And I'm sorry about the languages question, lol - as someone learning German I selfishly love it when I get to hear someone else speak it. Bravo on speaking four languages, that is mind boggling to me!
    Also i feel the same way about being a slow learner or slow artist, but it's okay. A lot of artists on social media you don't get to see how long it took them to make a piece, or really know what their story is or how long it took them to learn. It's okay to go at our own pace, and I am so happy for your recent channel growth because you absolutely deserve it! Just keep creating at your speed and you'll go far. 😁

    Yesss this is such a lovely portrait! The sheer sass in that hand pose and eyebrows is just perfect👌 It’s always really insightful to hear how other artists think on certain topics and this video was so chill and relaxing! I definitely envy your aptitude at languages, I tried Japanese and… well let’s just say I still only speak English 😅

      Oh my, what an amazing comment! So glad you love her sass (that was my intention and so happy you see it 😄 ) and that you found this video relaxing and insightful! and LOL!! I also tried to learn japanese haha! I am talented with languages but japanese, as amazing as it is, NOPE, that's too hard 😂😂😂

    The Q&A turned out great! I'm so happy you're growing and get the attention you deserve! Can't wait for the day you do prints! Keep it up and take good care of yourself. Oh and... Peanut? She's the most adorable thing in the world. I think she made me diabetic with her puppy dog eyes and floppy ears! ❤❤❤❤ (P. S.: Don't tell my dog I said this!)

    Loved the video! It was so interesting to learn more about you, and omg, we have so many similarities (what inspired us to draw and how we practiced drawing as kids/teenagers, personality-wise, and what outlook you have on life and other artists :D) but in a way it's the other way round for me right now: I studied illustration with only a tad of graphic design here and there and completely focused on my art, I started a RUclips channel to "pitch my brand" so to say, or just my art style, and to find a communityof like-minded people (like you again in this case), but I started with making art my career right after graduating and have now come to terms with the fact that selling your art online isn't gonna grow into a lucrative business over night, it takes so much time, patience and well, the funds to do it...:P I might look for a job that pays my rent now and work with that foundation, hopefully not having to give up the career as an illustrator I've always been longing for and working towards.
    Just wanted to say I love the way you film and edit your videos (so professional, I wish I could find the right lamps and setup to achieve that look for my overhead shots too). ;) I can't believe you're doing this demanding job caring for disabled people and still find the time to do RUclips on the side! Congtrats on your recent growth, you deserve it.

      Kaspaara, it's been a while since you posted this but let me tell you that I read it when you posted it and now that I am reading it again I gotta say it: I am extremely impressed and have so much respect for you that you went from studying straight to self-employment! The "business isn't growing over night" struggle must be difficult and can feel quite demotivating at times, it can make us question this road, especially with all the "perfect" business savvy artists doing the hustle in public on social media. Please, don't let that discourage or confuse you and keep doing YOUR thing. I hope so much, that it will pay off sooner than you think, and maybe it already has. ❤️

    3:18 Okay so ngl... I teared up and literally said "no wonder I like you so much!"
    I do the same thing for a living... I am a Personal Care Aide for my Gramma and Mom! It's not the easiest job, that's for sure! But it's been the most personally rewarding experience I've ever had now that I'm in my mid-40's....
    Okay, back to the video!

      Oh my God, Laura! This is so amazing to hear, you have no idea how many times I need to explain my job because people have no idea what you and I do is an actual thing and what it involves! I can relate so much with what you said! I gotta be careful though because I am at the brink of burnout (sadly there is huge lack of employees in this field because nobody wants to do it which means we gotta work more, it’s hard sometimes)

    Your art is beautiful, as always!! 🤩 Also, I used to work with adults with developmental disabilities. Sometimes it was doing everything for them, as they couldn't do anything for themselves, and other times it was more helping them make healthy choices, because they could physically do things for themselves, but were never able to develop in other ways. I loved the job, and hated the company I worked for, and I've moved into something completely different that I will happily do unless/until I manage to get my art career up and running! I still miss some of the people i got to know over the years. Oddly, the ones I missthemost are the nonverbal people. They could somehow just communicate better than most of the people that I know whoare able to speak.

    Which type of gouache would you say is better if you want to add colored pencils on top? I mostly work with watercolor and colored pencils but I have been thinking about trying out gouache because I like how opaque it can get, however I am unsure if I should get traditional or acrylic gouache.

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  Год назад

      My experience is that colored pencils work better over traditional Gouache, since it has a chalkier finish to the touch, the colored pencil sticks to it way nicer in comparison to acrylic gouache (which tends to be a little plasticky). As a general rule, the thicker you go with either medium the harder to draw over it with colored pencils. I made a review on Turner Acryl Gouache in which I also make tests on something called "Japanesque" paints. Those have a grittier consistency than normal Acrylic Gouache and in that video I test colored pencils on Acrylic Gouache of various brands. I figured out pencils work well on Turner Japanesque - however, it looks textured (due to the grit), which I personally like. That said, I would not determine which medium is better for you just based on the colored pencils aspect, though, because they may be very similar in looks but completely different in how you paint with them. Gouache is more blendable (which can be awful when you reactivate paints underneath and get mud) but they also give you more time to paint with. Acrylics do not reactivate once dry but they dry so insanely fast, to this day I have a hard time with that aspect. Hope this helps!

    • @rebeccasartcorner
      @rebeccasartcorner Год назад +1

      @@MoniDmajor ah, thanks! Acrylic gouache was on my mind just because it doesn't reactivate and I am affraid that I will make mud with traditional gouache, however I haven't found a store in my country yet which sells acrylic gouache which makes me a bit hesitant because it makes it more of a hassle to get a hold of it.
      Anyways, I'm gonna go and watch the video you mentioned, maybe it will help me in my decision. Thanks again!

    Another Pogo fan?! I was going to mention him when you brought up your musical style, but makes sense you already know him. If you aren't familiar with The Books, you may want to check them out. I would definitely describe them as audio collage to some degree.

Will definitely look into the books, right now I am working on collages myself and his music really helps to get in the mood, they are audio collages indeed :) So dreamy and beautiful

    I dislike handmade watercolors and art haul channels. I don't mind watching art haul from time to time but I stopped following some artists because they only make haul and swatch videos. And although I think those videos might be usefull if you are shopping for new products, I'm on a no buy and I don't like the consumerism that flows from those videos.

    • @MoniDmajor
      @MoniDmajor  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment! I think there is room for everyone in the art community, and while one person is either bored of or doesn't like the consumerism aspect behind hauls/swatching vids, some are maybe on the lookout because they are new and curious or they find it soothing and relaxing. Me personally, I look all kinds of art content for different reasons, except for some Vlogs - the ones that give me celebrity vibes, when people paint a picture of having an absolutely perfect life.

      @@MoniDmajor yeah I like occasional hauls and some reviews like Lindsey Weirich and Allan Jay Quesada have. But I don't like some artists, that are mainly showing hauls and not detailed reviews. It's odd.
