Absolutely fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. Whilst being a huge 'usual' Fishlocker follower, this proposed new 'direction' gets my 100% support. Looking forward to the next one!

A real pleasure to work with, I’ve worked with some real hard work crews before. These guys were positive and welcoming and really a pleasure to be around. 😊👍🏻

Like another comment says, the skipper wouldn't have let you get on their way if you didn't know what you were doing. In reality you can do just as good. Thanks again. The next episode coming up.
Brilliant ! Thanks for taking us along 👍, went to Venice a few years ago and the locals were catching small cuttles in the grand canal with rod and line and spinning with artificial lures that looked like prawns !
Your a man of many talents lad - the skipper would not have let you anywhere near the gear or processing if he had any doubt about your knowledge & understanding of pro boat work. It was obvious you were enjoying yourself as part of a grand team. Hats off to you John - a very interesting watch I must say.
Like 767 This will be a blast...let's watch. I'll be back at the end of your show That was great to watch John. That is definitely something I would enjoy Cheers 🇨🇦🍻
A lot of commercial fishermen get some stick, these lads seem to have it well sussed. @@TheFishLocker How do you claim this is a sustainable fishery? The ICES assessment indicated that the stock was likely to have been overfished and subject to overfishing. Concerns about biomass are supported by decreasing trends in English Channel cuttlefish landings and population indices, where recorded. French surveys, conducted by IFREMER, suggest a decreasing trend in abundance in the eastern part of the English Channel between 2006-2014. Marine Management Organisation reported landings in 2021 were also considerably below the five year average (2,616 tonnes versus 4,531 tonnes), which may be due to low stock levels. Additionally, although limited recent studies are available, studies indicate that the English Channel cuttlefish population is either fully or over exploited.

Hi John… that was … sorry to say one of the best vids you’ve done! Very interesting to the Eastbourne commercials … I fish out on the charters out of Eastbourne and it’s nice to the the other side… we see em always in the lock! The skippers are always jovial…. Keep the vids going. B🤓
Whenever we go to new York City we always go to Chinatown and buy some prepared cuttlefish. It is absolutely delicious. Very interesting to see how they are caught. As always you have provided us with another fantastic video. Thank you.
They are delicious aren’t they. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I truly hope that people find these videos interesting and educational. Please if you think any of your friends would enjoy the videos, share them on. 👍🏻
Not gonna lie, having watched documentaries about cuttlefish and how fascinating and intelligent they are this seemed a bit brutal, but I appreciate there’s obviously bundles of them and as long as it’s fished sustainably then that’s the best it can be.
Fascinating stuff, hardworking lads as well. Having not grown up around the coast and living in south east england im not familiar with customs of sea fishing and nature so to me this is really educational and gets me thinking properly about where my food comes from.

What a fascinating insight into the the day in the life of commercial fishing boat and something I never thought about being caught as a species off our coast as it not seen in the fishmongers, supermarkets or many restaurants in the UK so don't think of it as a commercially viable catch. Great video, John. Brought me back to my days in the offshore and inshore fisheries. Sure do miss those days.
I really enjoyed getting back out amongst the lads and the fish.
very interesting video John, sea horses were great, well done
Those sea horses were wonderful to see. Really made me joyful.
enjoyed watching the crew fishing for cuttlefish, I have never tried it, but if its anything like squid, count me in at the dinner table.
They are delicious.
Would love more commercial adventures 😊
I’ve got 3 more in various stages of editing which is why I’ve had to step it back to 1 video a week this past fortnight. I won’t say any more, but they are good. 😉🤣👍🏻

Hello John, what a brilliant video! First time seeing a cuttle fish!! I learned a ton about cuttlefish and feel inspired to try eating one. Say hello to your first mate at home.

Incredible video John. The lads are absolutely top notch! Must been great experience, and thanks so much for sharing with us.
I had a great few days with them and can honestly say it was a pleasure to work with them.
Great team indeed!
Great stuff John! Opened my eyes to yet another style of fishing. Many thanks for making this video 👍

Thanks for making this video!
I used to process cuttlefish in a factory in Devon when I was a young man but never knew how they were caught👍
Every day is a school day mate. Where did the cuttle from your factory go to?
@@TheFishLocker it is that 🤣
Mostly Spain if I remember correctly
We Brits don’t eat the stuff but some of the lads used to take a few and use them for fishing bate but never known anyone actually eat them.
Hi John… that was … sorry to say one of the best vids you’ve done! Very interesting to the Eastbourne commercials … I fish out on the charters out of Eastbourne and it’s nice to the the other side… we see em always in the lock!
The skippers are always jovial…. Keep the vids going.
B🤓
Scott and his crew were brilliant lads. It was an absolute pleasure to spend my time with them. 😊👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker yup looked that way.. the guys on the commercials are good guys!
very nice cuttlefish fishing day. amazing how big they can be.and it's so good to eat. also a good bait for dentex .
Great all round arent they. 👍🏻
I thought that too
That is exactly what I hope comes across in the video. These are fished for sustainably and with a very selective and low impact method.
Fascinating insight into Cuttlefish fishing, never knew they grew so big John.
They do grow slightly bigger if you can believe it!!!
That was absolutely fascinating! Great footage! I'm off to learn more about cuttlefish 😀
They are fascinating aren’t they.
Thank you, really interesting. look forward to more in this series
My pleasure Guy, hope you enjoy the next one.
Fascinating stuff, hardworking lads as well. Having not grown up around the coast and living in south east england im not familiar with customs of sea fishing and nature so to me this is really educational and gets me thinking properly about where my food comes from.
That is very heartening to hear as that is what I hoped when making these videos.
Awesome to see bro glad the UK has a fantastic fishery greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you Jay.
Really interesting video, John, thanks 🙏🏻 enjoyed it a lot, had no clue of the life of the cuttlefish til now 😊, big hugs to James who’s probably at school working hard 😓 also. 👋🏻👍🏻Hi James, big hello from Holland 🌷🌷🌷🌊🎣✊🏻, hope all is good with you all and that school is going well for you 👍🏻, hope to see you in a video with your Dad really soon, when you have time 😊, greetings from Kirsty and Fam 😊❤
Hi Kirsty, thank you and yes James is working hard at school and loving it. 😊💙
@@TheFishLocker so glad to hear that he’s enjoying school, with his inquisitive mind I think 🤔 he’d be doing you and Hannah proud 👌🏼🤩, for many years ahead; whatever he choses to do in life. Also his excellent presenting skills on your channel will hold him in great training for future spin- offs of his own’ should he be interested later on 💪🏻🤞🏼✊🏻🙏🏻👍🏻🤩🍀😁😁😎- the world is his oyster literally and he’ll have our support for certain. The only fishing 🎣 that I ever did was mainly on the River Shannon, Lough Derg for trout, pike and perch. Since my stroke one side of my body is paralyzed whilst the other isn’t, which is so frustrating when you want to to return to fave old hobbies but cannot but it’s a small price to pay to survive ✊🏻 and enjoy instead by watching you guys having such fun, thanks for that, it helps a lot 😮💨💐😘🥰🧘🏼♂️🌊. Take care and stay safe, looking forward to your next content 😀. Cheers. Greetings from Kirsty and Fam in Holland 🌷🌷☘️☘️👋🏻😁🎣
Really interesting. Think there is a nice little fishmonger next to there as well. Got some spider crabs legs last summer to cook for my little one.
Fish and crab shack. 👍🏻
What a fascinating insight into the the day in the life of commercial fishing boat and something I never thought about being caught as a species off our coast as it not seen in the fishmongers, supermarkets or many restaurants in the UK so don't think of it as a commercially viable catch. Look forward to next episode of a day in the life series
Some fresh fish merchants are starting to stock them but most of it does go abroad to Europe.
what an interesting fishery. Thanks for bringing us along for the adventure. Good Hard working days aboard that vessel.
It is my pleasure David, I am glad that you enjoyed joining us. 😊
Great video! Interesting how the eggs hang on the rope and cages.
Really cool isn’t it. 😊
