  • This is a quick fix, and although it removes the ability to adjust the pickup height, it's all holding firm and working fine. The fix involves almost no tools other than some wire and glue.
I wouldn't recommend this for an expensive guitar, but then an expensive guitar would probably be made of more hard-wearing materials, so this shouldn't be a problem, but if you have an expensive guitar with this problem, call the Police !!
    Thanks for watching, Robbo.

Nice survivor hack Rob. Thank you.
Consider this too... and I got this to work. Get a nut that will fit on the screw. Remove the wire wrapping from just the end of the screw. Lubricate the screw tip threads and the inside of the nut, with a bit of petroleum gel. Place a few drops of JB Weld to the flange . Screw a nut to the tip of the screw and tighten until you get some squeeze-out. Let the JB Weld set-up. Rotate the screw a left and right to prevent the JB Weld from bonding to the screw threads. Wait 24 hours. Remove all of the binding wire. Done and it's fully adjustable. Some people use solder in place of the JB Weld. That works too.
    Cheers.

Many thanks Jack. This seems like such a common problem, especially on less expensive guitars and I found virtually no quick fixes on the net. I would have much preferred to make it adjustable, but in this case had to use what I had to hand. Thanks so much again for adding to the advice here in the comments. Very best to you, Rob

I have all those things you mentioned (shaking, can't see, many more) too and know how bad they suck! I'm surprised the epoxy did harden enough to make threads into with the screw, with that little wire you have wrapped around the end of the screw now it might be good to drop a few drops of soldier onto the wire to help hold it in place. cheers mate and all the best!

The glue I used was very bad quality, it was probably mostly water or air, I think that had a lot to do with it. My fix worked, unfortunately, the screw thread on the other side of the pickup couldn't take the pressure, so then gave out as well, hahaha. They're both fixed now, but immovable. The one I originally fixed had already been re-soldered, perhaps they didn't use metal at all, but Play-do instead ! Thanks so much for taking the time, Cheers, Rob.

Nice one Rob - necessity is the mother of invention, after all - and a perfect excuse for port and cheese evening too. Everyone's a winner!

I'm already looking forward to this years special offers and more broken pickup mountings to fix, sound's like thirsty work. Thanks again for the offer, that was really cool. Cheers, Rob.

I know it’s a old video but I’ve often soldered a nut on the pickup tab and then it works like it should.

Hi, thanks for the comment and suggestion, nice one. Unfortunately I had no access to a soldering iron so had to improvise, with what was available..your solution is definitely neater and prbably more permenant, so thanks again.

They do say necessity is the mother of invention and you came up with a way to make it work with what you had on hand. I’m thinking I should buy a bottle that has that gold wire just in case I need it. Of course I can drink the contents in the meantime :D

the half-price Port they sell here at Xmas is a great source of gold wire, and now I can claim it back as expenses under 'essential guitar repairs'..

Thank you mate ! The problem was, that when I adjusted the other side, the hole on that side gave out, so I did the same repair on both sides in the end, and now it seems to be happy :)

The other hole also gave up... Let's be glad we're talking about guitar pickup :D

    Hello Rob ....Hello Dave,
    Yes, grippage is a word.
From the urban dictionary definition... "when ones scrotum sticks to his boxers or briefs due to perspiration".
I would imagine this definition might be helpful to you but I do not believe Dave would find it of use since he apparently is scrotumless and does not wear undies. :-)

As you can appreciate, I've flatly refused to look underneath Dave ever since he arrived, there could be anything lurking about there, and I'm not prepared to find out..It's not worth it, it's only youtube !!

      I fully appreciate your reasoning.
Would it be safe to surmise Dave's favorite album is "Quadroplegia" by the Who?

Close..it's actually Quattro Formaggi by Domino's Pizza, which makes a hell of a mess of the turntable.
