      Homeowner Repair im cleaning my pool, adding alkalinity plus and poolside turbo shock, should I keep my Hayward in the filter setting, thanks.

  • @GaryGrube1
    @GaryGrube1 Год назад +11

    Always turn the Multiport Valve handle in the same direction. Hayward recommends clockwise to make it easy to remember which direction you are using and to do it the same every time you move the valve handle.. Turning the handle back and forth can damage the valve gasket or cause it to wear out faster. So, if you always turn the valve handle in the recommended clockwise direction; when it is set to, "Waste", don't turn it backwards (counter clockwise) to, "Filter". Turn it from, "Waste", clockwise all the way back around to, "Filter".
    Again this is per the Hayward rep. Also, when my pool equipment was installed, the pool techs emphasized this to me when they were showing me how to operate the equipment.

      Irrelevant, it’s a spring loaded plug. Turn pump off and pull handle as far down as you can so you don’t drag the gasket around causing damage when you turn it. One direction vs another doesn’t change how it lifts or rotates.

    Oh no! Yesterday the pool supply store wrote down some basic instructions for us to clean a pool that hasn't been used in 6 years. Today I noticed that the water was really low, so I just found your video, and I realized that I used the handle as the dial!!!

  • @jimbo5635
    @jimbo5635 6 лет назад +11

    Its important to push the handle fully down before turning it. There is a gaskets under there that can be damaged if redirection plate is dragged across it. I never heard of only turning it one direction and I have rebuilt a lot of theses, I can't think why it would matter.

    • @edlingja1
      @edlingja1 2 года назад +1

      You use that for making repairs if there is a potential for a leak which will damage your glue operation. It’s just there because they can put it in, could be helpful for an above ground where the equipment is below the water level- although you need a valve at the skimmer anyways so it is irrelevant.

    If I have air in my pump which setting should I use to get air out as I see there in no air bleed valve?

    • @edlingja1
      @edlingja1 2 года назад

      The air is probably coming from the suction lines but if your lines are good then occasionally you can get air trapped in the filter dial head. If so, you generally turn pump off, use recirculate for a few mins, turn pump off again, back to filter. If you are still getting air in the system you can plug the waste line temporarily to see if air is sneaking past the internal gasket on the dial head and causing the pump to not prime completely full (replace it if it is).

      You have a broader problem then. You can power down, switch to recirc. Then run it for 5 mins to see if the bubbles stop in the pool itself. As it runs, monitor the pump basket for incoming air bubbles (this is a result of air entering the system before the pump’s impeller (leak, loose fittings, o-rings, whatever is between the pump suction and the pool outlets).

      Homeowner Repair I see. Would you agree that the entire filter would need to be replaced or should this be further looked into? The guys who came recommended a full replacement as they said the filter looked “winterized” and wasn’t properly turned on for the season or something and that there would otherwise be no reason for the tank to be missing water. They said the filter looked about 10 years old and could use it anyway.

      @@elisabethpankhurst2016 Place handle in the waste position. Make aure if you have a skimmer and bottom drain that the valve is set to lower drain only. Waste the water from the pool and drain your filter system. Be cateful when wasting water on in hround pools if you have a high water table as this may cause your pool to "pop out" due to increased pressure below pool. This goes for liner pools, fiberglass or gunnite. If in doubt contact your local pool pros or the contractor who installed it.

      I would have to disagree. A backwash setting reverses the flow of water in your plumbing. If you watch a typical operation your skimmer or bottom drain are "pulling" water in and your circulation ports "push" water out. If you change to backwash the water is reversed. Try to vacuum and rather than pulling debris up through filter you will simply be pushing it around with a jet of water.

    • @edlingja1

      @@benjaminkent4397 no man, backwash only involves the filter not the entire pool system. Vacuum light debris on filter, heavy debris on waste.

      Are you putting the cover on the skimmer basket.

    • @edlingja1
      @edlingja1 2 года назад

      Use waste to vacuum, don’t put debris straight into your filter on purpose. Top up pool first then vacuum til your heart’s content using a vacuum plate on the skimmer. If your pressure gauge is reading over 20 psi, do a backwash for 3-5 mins, then rinse for 30 sec - 1 min.
      Most pools should be around 7-14 psi steady pressure, when you go 8-10 psi over your original reading then you backwash. If the filter pressure is always high then replace sand and you should get back to the ~10 psi zone.
      It all depends how your system started off as new, some people’s pools run at higher pressures because of combined issues or maybe their pump is very powerful. Mostly plumbing issues cause higher starting pressures.
