Is it worth it to get this at 300 rather than a l7s 8 for 160 or 200 with 400watt 1ohm amp? I feel like for what I'm looking for a 2ohm wire to 4ohm on a bigger amp at 4ohm is more what I'm looking for, I want ckean sound with a single 8 in my 13 odyssey exl. Thinking of running a loc from the rear factory sub and add a 1200w kicker amp on 4ohms so it's closer to the rms rating and ohms I want. But on the other hand I could keep it in the box and get a 500watt at 2ohm and probably be plenty pleased, I bet a custom wooden enclosure would sound way better but I need something on a budget and I want a small form factor for sure

Well, definitely like having the lows I was missing before. Mine came in today, fits well in my double cab if i mount it vertically. My sealed box seems to get much louder, obviously doesn't hit anywhere near as low. I was expecting the opposite actually - less low freq. performance and good, punchy loud middle/low freq. response. On a tone generator, it almost dies at 60hz+. --- Was this your experience as well? Is that just a passive radiator trait because of the 31hz tuning frequency?
Are you going to build a bigger sealed box and see how much more output you could get with the sub and passive radiator before you put it in a ported box?
I forget which employee it was, maybe Kip, John or Aaron, they said they lost the manufacturer over in China. That manufacturer got out of speaker building so they have to find a new one, plus some of the components used to build the Q class subs went away (maybe due to covid). So they are redesigning it and finding a new manufacturer. I've also heard they may change the name. It will still be square, but they have the option of changing the looks and creating a new name. They are keeping the round version, the Comp Q. It's getting a small cosmetic update and they will be releasing it in March. No word yet on the Q class release.
So they arent updating the QClass L7 line but replacing with a totally new line thats still square? Do you know if it will be a higher or lower level than the QClass L7
@@chokechangeWell, they are forced to change a few things due to supply chain issues. I hope they were able to get all their molds and not have to make new ones. They did not mention if there will be any big changes. They probably don't know. This is definitely the time to do some small improvements, but I think it's still going to be basically the same driver. Similar price point, similar sound quality, etc... It's still a long ways out so they have not said much. I pieced together the above info from a variety of live shows. Sometimes they let stuff slip that they shouldn't. Lol

I currently have an L7 8" in a small (.60cu/ft) sealed, because I have next to zero room... I bought a Sundown SA-8 and was going to attempt to build a .6-ish ported box, but man what a PITA unless I'm willing to lose some foot room. And then you post this with a link that these are for sale somewhere!? I'm torn now. I already have the Sundown, but I've always love the Kicker's and my current one has never let me down, it just doesn't get loud or low like I'd like. What would your thoughts on that be? SA-8 @ 1ohm (~800 give or take, it's a Pioneer GM-DR9605 - nothing special, but apparently 1-ohm stable if you keep it civil...), or should I pick one of these up and have something that fits perfectly? EDIT: I bought one. Worst case scenario, the Sundown works out better and the Kicker ends up in the Datsun!
How do you like that Kicker QB8? I like the size of it. Doesn’t take up too much room. I thought of using a Sundown too. I remember hearing a 2700W sundown 8 years ago and was very impressed for its size.

It sounds different that's for sure, has a really low peak in my truck, and I have it firing down into the floor right behind the center console. No real "mid" bass (I consider that to be like 50hz-100hz judging by test tones). Below 35, it really picks up. Mounting orientation makes a world of difference and I think I'm getting a good amount of cabin gain. I have an SA-8 I'd love to build a box for, but trying to get a sub 40hz tuning frequency in a box the size I need is really tricky. I can fit TWO QB8's in the same space as my sealed L7, and I don't think it would be as loud. But it has tremendous output below 40hz in comparison. My whole dash jumps, cups in the cupholder shake. I actually have both the QB8 and my sealed box behind my seat right now wired 1ohm, and it sounds okay. A little unbalanced as expected but, honestly if the QB8 had better output above 35hz I'd be a lot happier. I run 100hz crossovers on all 4 doors, btw.
@@nileshudson2185Bottom line, there is no best prefab. You need to look for the size you need that will fit the requirements of your driver. If ported, you need to know what frequency it's ported to. A lot of prefabs don't give accurate air space or tuning specs. Whichever you choose you can expect to do some additional sealing on the seams. I'd make a list of boxes that fits your needs and narrow it down. A single 6.5" ported box should be pretty cheap, so even if it's terrible, your not out a lot of money.

I paid full price for one these right before covid as a curiosity. I also have a 12" CompRT box with a passive radiator. Comparativly speaking; the CompRT 12" is slightly louder but the Qclass 8" hits noticably deeper. For 300ish dollars it would be kinda ok if you just really need the space. I use it on trips just to have something.
I wish I knew about these kickers earlier. I was at crutchfield during the summer and they were clearing out those 8s with that aluminum box. They had them sitting in the open box area of the outlet
wonder what it would sound like if you put a piece of wood on that metal box and put a 6 1/2 in it with the passive radiator since a 6 1/2 would like the smaller enclosure better anyway lol
I wonder what would happen by inverting the sub, removing the PR, and adding long cannon port somehow. That enclosure isnt much if you factor in displacement.

LOL this ain't some mysterious whatever that only a few highly enlightened (in the car audio tuning world) are able to achieve!! Square subs act like a little bigger than line to line, so they go a bit deeper. However, the drawback is that the corners wear faster than the straights. The corners rip apart before everything else. You want good hard hitting bass? Get a good set of subs, either get your own specs with your own measurement software, or go with a good set of race sets
