There are 3 reasons why a person would be homeless in the USA. 1) Drug & or alcohol addition. 2) Mental illness (often combined with #1) 3) Catastrophic economic disaster caused by loss of job, major illness or something along those lines. People in categories 1 and 2 are most difficult to help, people in category 3 usually seek help and are able to climb out of the hole of homelessness. Most of the homeless I've known are in category 1 and/or 2. Every person has a story, in many cases it is the same old story: drugs and booze. You can't help those who don't want to be helped. And yes, I am an Army veteran, Vietnam service '69-70.
This situation isn’t an indictment of honorable people forced to live like this; its an indictment of us. Regardless of what was one thinks about our homeless situation, a society that condemns its vets to literally live on the streets, isn’t one to write home about, that’s for sure. California has a huge social problem and its not going to be addressed any time soon.
Its shameful a country that gives preferences to illegals over those who served it, has lost the right to call itself a decent society. If by what we mean by one is in how it treats the least fortunate among it. America doesn’t measure up to that standard.
I'm 'part & parcel' part of that realm, I was placed . . . 6 years prior, to an apartment, and, moved from Maryland to D.C. with a 'HUD/VASH Voucher' in a one bedroom, two blocks from bus/mass transit ! LIFE is blessed ! 🤗 🎄 🇺🇸
They are all US Military Veterans, and some have served in combat. The land behind the black iron fence is a Soldiers' Home Property that was deeded to the Federal Government in 1888 to care for disabled war Veterans. Unfortunately, the VA has been commercially leasing out the land for profit instead of building housing. In 2013 the ACLU filed a civil rights case against the VA on behalf of homeless Veterans for misuse of land (Valentini v. Shinseki). The illegal leases were supposed to be evicted. The #1 objective was to end Veteran homelessness by 2015 and beyond. Still, in 2018, the Officer of the Inspector General released his audit findings, and non-Veteran special interest groups are illegally utilizing 60% of the land.
Served our country and now they are dumped on by the gov't.... nice.

Veterans should be on the top of the list to be taking care of, not illegal immigrants. This is Veterans' park in the fancy Westwood, also known of the near by UCLA. Homes are like above $1.8 millions easily, yet so many homeless life in a filthy condition.
Many of the housed are like sheep, while they are all sniping at one another or preachin' on RUclips posts the "government" supposedly in charge smirks knowing that they have made it a societial issue and distracts away from those in "charge"
If I just go to the VA they're in Los Angeles I have been there myself there's a building devoted to homeless veterans only they can set you up with the program called Grant per diem you're allowed that three times a year if not three times a lifetime depends on the circumstances they will pay a non-profit to house you for up to 6 months to a year is called the grant per Diem program they will not allow you to stay on the streets even the same night you will be placed in a warm bed and a roof over your head they have the diamond celery there with a house nothing but homeless veterans three meals a day beautiful meals and a beautiful place to stay some vets choose the tent life you got to dig in their past and find out what's up but there is a program at the VA if they choose to get off the streets believe me it's called housing first....
Oh yeah they must have no domestic violence or drug arrests on their record and an honorable discharge no other discharge will do there's got to be stipulations and that's about all there is but the chronic homeless veteran can be housed immediately there's a crisis number that can be called and they'll show up the same day...
Gus Ruz, They are US Military Veterans. There is a fraud occurring at the VA. The VA has prioritized profit over Veterans by commercially leasing the soldier's home property instead of building housing.

It worked with me . . . as a homeless veteran - obtaining housing. It can be accomplished with them, as well ! 🤗🇺🇸

It is incredible that all this happens!!
What a situation these people live, the most unfortunate thing that not only they are like this, there are many people in this same situation
They have served this great nation, they don't deserve to end like this🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
By the way, the Department of Veterans Affairs has programs that house our veterans.
