Now what use to be one of the most beloved parks of Los Angeles goes through one of its darkest times that shouldn’t be happening to begin with...

Being born and raised in California growing up you may have seen 1 or 2 homeless people and usually Id be an old man we’d call them hobos or winos. As an adult I just can’t fathom how it got to this point. People like to say its because it’s so expensive and it is but I just can’t wholly agree with that notion. When I talk with some of the homeless the majority aren’t even from here, they come here on a sunshiny rainbow filled dream and then come to the realization it’s grimy. The only thing that’s like what you see on tv is the weather. The other 1/2 are mentally ill or drug addicted. My mom was an addict and suffers from bi polar disorder and was homeless
NOT BECAUSE SHE HAD TO BE but when she got tired of the streets there were hundreds of programs offered to her. She got in one. Got clean and got a new place. She wasn’t in a nasty shelter either the county paid for her to rent a room until they found her an permanent low income senior apartment, brought her new furniture and then gave her section 8... and if they tried to place her somewhere nasty she didn’t go for it. I myself live in a 3k a month apt in north Hollywood but pay only $800a month . theres no curfew to follow ,nobody coming to check up or inspect. I get the same amenities my 3k a month neighbors get .I see people just not wanting the responsibility of paying rent, taxes ,utilities or wanting to live by some rules not their own. I get that. I myself feel like living on the street every time a bill comes but I know better.
If people really don’t want to be homeless there is help here and when I see some of these videos the people on the streets aren’t telling the full story. There have been instances where la county housing literally walks down streets and offer homeless people section 8 or new housing but no one wants to fill out the paperwork or give up 3% of their income to pay rent and yes a lot of homeless people are getting disability or some gov issued check. Every month.
What’s going to end up happening is the government is eventually going to gather up all the people who aren’t native to this state and put them on a bus to where they came from and tell them if they come back in the same situation they’re gna be jailed and the other 1/2 are gna be forced into mass mental facilities and shelters if they don’t want to be housed. This echo park thing is just the beginning of a mass cali clean up. Watch

I’m on the East Coast and have family in the LA area. It’s no longer safe in Echo Park, and they can’t go there anymore. Drug use, people pooping in broad daylight, prostitution, pedestrians are sexually harassed and robbed, it’s a crack house out in public, and people doing performative activism are screaming about how inhumane it is to boot the homeless out.
Imagine paying obscene California taxes, gas prices, electricity, and groceries, and this is what you’re paying to be around. This is where you’re going to raise your children. LA was never the paradise that the movies made it out to be, but holy hell it is awful now, and the pandemic has only highlighted how NOT WORTH IT the city is. You can live in a cheaper state and not have to deal with this.

So I can only surmise they were waiting for a federal bailout.... and Aunt Nancy Pelosi took care of that. So be assured, that with the federal bailout... things will NOT improve. If they do improve, it will be more difficult for the NEXT federal bailout. Disgusting. I hope enough reasonably intelligent people vote properly and remove these radicals.

The homeless here are here by choice. They have security, and they say who gets to stay. And the old school homeless are not welcome, they are chased away. Look at their tents in Echo Park compared to the ones on Skid Row. These look new and nice and the ones on Skid Row are dirty and more often than not just a tarp or some such thing thrown over boxes or shopping carts. I almost forgot to mention the murders happening here too (and yes, they're happening on skid row too).

This is very sad on both ends of the situation 😢 I lived in LA a few years ago and I remember walking by the lake on a beautiful sunny day and sitting on the grass enjoying a snow cone. I'm thankful I was able to enjoy the area before Los Angeles fully turned into a third world city. That's the selfish part of me, but I can't imagine being out there living in a tent. We have to do something to help people get off the streets. Small gestures like the tiny home village won't be enough, unfortunately it seems like an impossible task. Wait till the rent money comes due after the moratorium due to the pandemic, sadly, it'll be much worse.

You should go to Mc Arthur park. I remember Echo par was used for Wedding, sweet 16, and quinceñera pictures. Now you cant take a picture in Echo Park with out a bum photo bombing it.

@@IIII...... It's a drug problem masquerading as a homeless problem. We will NEVER begin to address the issues if we don't realize what the problem really is. If you put them in an apartment, in a few days, the place will be stripped of anything of value. They will be gone.

@@IIII...... Yes, California is a mess. But these people are from all over the country. They come for the climate and they know they can get handouts and there's plenty of fentanyl and meth. I work for the city here. We have multiple crews of people working on this "problem" (Vegas)
We force them to move every couple of days, We show up in the middle of the night with heavy equipment, dump trucks and give them no choice. We don't allow them in parks or on sidewalks. The drug problem is completely out of control. Most people think this is a housing problem, it's not. You could give them a free nice apartment and in a day or so it would be stripped of appliances and copper wiring.

The irony not-lost on me: Their own parents didn't want them from birth. Merely passed
them on to Society -- people shouldn't just be able to have children. It shouldn't be a birth right.
Ever see the self-esteem on a homeless person - you're right - there is none. There's nothing left.

Twice per day, minimum, Mayor Eric Garcetti drives by/around Echo Park. Cares
very much not just about the Homeowners, i.e. THEIR safety/quality-of-life. But those who are
BROKEN -- living IN the park (past tense as they've cleaned the area out). Eric knows these
    are mostly broken-children-as-adults - probably our Country's greatest-singular-problem/issue.
They're BROKEN before the age of 16, typically by the age of 8. Left to fend for themselves when
they flee and/or are "Kicked-out" for "being-bad." Either way these kids are safer on the street. Than
they were and are in their own home. So this is the crux of Mayor Garcetti's issue - and he's trying to do the right
thing, he really is. He's been a great, great Mayor.

The homeless problem in all these democrat run cities is past the tipping point. This problem will never be solved, it'll just keep being kicked down the road. Once you fall off the cliff you don't stop until you hit the ground.

The homeless problem is a business and a lot of people are getting rich of this crisis . Taking these people out of the street's is not profitable to these politicians. Keeping them in the street's is, too much funded money coming inn. On the flip side a lot of the home less don't want housing because they get drug tested and have curfews. I'm a city bus driver and public transportation is just as bad. They treat the bus's like there personal U-haul transportation ...

Though I have empathy for the homeless, Echo Park is not a camp ground and should not be. This is my home, always has been--since the 70's. Time to reclaim the Park and make it beautiful again for all to enjoy. The homeless situation at the Park has gone on far too long.
