Hi there I live in Hollywood and something you might like to know is that the big room that reminded you of the haunted castle was actually where the very first Academy award ceremony was held
This is such an insult to Marylin's legacy - old withered sofas and chairs, a plain looking bathroom. I would have expected something much more glamorous.
Yet, could those be the original furnishings in Marilyn's suite? If so, I say, by all means keep them as so much else has changed. Leather can be refurbished. In general, what people think of as "Hollywood" is fake today and only maintained to trap tourists into coming around and spending money. I lived in LA many years ago and it was fake back then. Oh, well, the old dream is fun.

Hi Tim. Come to Canada! The railroad company built grand hotels across Canada from The late 1880’s into the early 1900’s. Try the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, The Royal York in Toronto or the Banff Springs in Alberta.

Yes! I’ve only ever briefly been in the front lobby back in maybe 2011. I love the Mid Century Modern “updates” from the time combined with some of the modern contemporary touches all not interfering with the original original 1927 grandeur from the likes of the front entrance. Being in the heart of Hollywood Blvd, it makes sense why all the special rooms have locked doors. Which really is unfortunate. Though, I don’t know if anyone can just enter the front doors like we used to be able to? I’m blessed to get Pink’s when the Orange County Fair comes around. That way I don’t have to go to L.A. every time I want not just any hot dog…but an iconic hot dog. Pink’s really is The Most!

All these "haunted" rumours were probably started by the owner of the hotel to keep the punters coming. I'm surprised they didn't send a Marilyn Monroe lookalike dressed in white and smelling of Chanel No5 (Marilyn's favourite) in your room while you were sleeping then suddenly shooting out of the door. 11:30 I can't think of a more powerful endorsement for that place than Scobby Doo. I honestly would love to stay at that hotel, and the Marilyn suite in particular.
I worked for a catering company ( Patinas) that used The Roosevelt for a lot of large events like weddings, corporate events and parties and such. This was around 2001, 2002 and I remember the hotel was either under renovation or just closed for extensive repairs. It was in the main hall / the old part of the hotel. There was a large restroom with a row of about 15 sinks. The event was at night and it was late. A friend and I were working there for that event. He went to use the restroom and when he entered, all of the faucets started running. These are the old sinks with the two faucets. They were all running full speed when he entered. He ran out and told us. I came up and they were all running. We just left. It was indeed a creepy building to work in, especially late at night when the events would take place. You could just feel the weirdness all around the old part of the building. I don’t remember seeing the new parts. Mind you, this is over 24 years old. Most of the hotels I worked in around the Los Angeles area were just as old and just as creepy. I can’t prove it was haunted. I never took a job at that venue again. Cheers Tim, enjoyed that. Marilyn, actually had her FIRST ever professional photo shoot by the hotel’s pool. The mural on the pool’s floor, was painted by famous British artist David Hockney. Cheers Tim, enjoyed that. Marilyn, actually had her FIRST ever professional photo shoot by the hotel’s pool. The mural on the pool’s floor, was painted by famous British artist David Hockney. We stayed there in 2007, and it appears to have changed little in that time, other than they’ve removed the Hollywood wording on the sign. My late Mother, reckoned that the hotel was dimly lit, to allow clandestine meetings amongst the rich and famous. 👍🏼
Tim , next time just call housekeeping for milk and sugar 😊
