A global entertainment icon and beloved Mississippian explains the meaning of life.
Kermit the Frog is an entertainment icon known worldwide for his appearances on The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, as well as a number of feature films. He attributes much of his success to his thirty-five year partnership with Mississippi native and entertainment visionary, Jim Henson. Kermit has received many honors and accolades for his work, including multiple Academy Award nominations, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a commemorative stamp from the U.S. Postal Service.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Didn't expect to hear Kermit talk about losing his virginity but here we are...
Oh hi Chandler
Well I did
Wait where did he talk about that?
@@BIastProcX when he said "I lost my.... Tail."
No, silly, he only lost his tail!
It's great how immersive puppets are. Like I just accept that Kermit is really there
He is there!
Here for me is real
Wait, he isn’t?
Kermit is obviously there, the question is are you?
@@contrafax What do you mean ?

i thought that is called breaking kayfabe and is generally hated upon
@@chrisakaschulbus4903 In this case it's called breaking the 4th wall and generally a good use of irony in media.
"it was in this very theatre that I lost my,,, tail"
kERMIT
Funny, i got a little tail in a theatre one time...
Funny, I lost my virginity in a theatre
Funny, I sat at a midnight screening of fifty shades of grey and cried from start to finish out of sheer loneliness in a theatre once.
Funny, I saw Star Wars without getting laid
That “I lost my tail” joke was pure gold and nobody in the audience laughed.
I am disappointed in you Mississippi,
They're incels.
Yoda: Mmmm... not laugh at Kermit’s jokes they did. Furries they must be. Burn them all we must.
there was so much joke they didnt laugh i feel so bad
They were laughing, but they either weren't mic'ed or (most likely) had their audio muted during the laughter so most of the sound from them we heard was coming from Kermit's mic. It was probably different being there, but while we're sitting here watching on RUclips the editing is made to focus on the speaker so we're not as distracted by the audience. Contrast comedy shows, where the audience is mic'ed so a home audience can get a similar experience to being there with a crowd.
Sad to see 'regional superiority' being displayed...posting individual seems to forget that Mississippi birthed Jim Henson.
...the moment you realize that a rag-doll frog is smarter than you...
+Mihai Sorohan He maybe be smarter than you on a other level, why you are smarter than him on a other level
Karadra Peterson Thank you for your optimism :)
+Mihai Sorohan ridiculous optimism
wise monkey Why so?
Optimism is always positive, ridiculous or not, still, positive :)
Cheers!
Why am I only just now learning that Kermit did a Ted talk?
Same
You aren’t alone.
Same. & my hometown's not even that far from Jackson!
Same 🐸
I just asked myself that very question! Now I must share this message with everyone I've ever met!
Man, I miss Jim Henson. He's the reason that we're all listening to a frog giving a lecture. Life would have been way more boring if he wasn't there in our childhoods.
Without Jim Henson i would not be the comedian that i am today. His puopets allow me to visualise and tell jokes & express feelings i otherwise wouldnt be able to just verbally.
I was a Fraggle Rock fan before The Muppets. He was the best
Jim Henson's skits on the Ed Sullivan show were EPIC. I don't know if any.of y'all have seen them, but Henson was into puppetry.....and quite possibly a bit of the ol weed back then, I'd say.
I love that we just sort of collectively accept Kermit as a non-fictional person. This was so inspirational.
At this point Kermit is a simulacrum of Jim Henson and you cannot change my mind
Kermit for President 2020
Better than most of the other Chuckles out there.
He shall stop all these bad kanye west memes :-D
+Adam Martinelli Well, you've got Donald Duck in office right now, so why not Kermit next?
Actually Kermit for President in 2032
As long as he doesn't become a puppet dictator
So many of the opening jokes flew right over the audiances' heads
It's kind of funny how I went to Google to search for "ridiculous optimism" and the first thing I saw was a picture of Fozzie Bear.
gustafsone the first result should’ve been Jim Henson
He sounds like Jordan Peterson.
They just weren't funny.
Well, it's Mississippi.
"A mentor; the perfect mix of fan and critic." I never thought about it like that; it's important to have a mentor who not only teaches you, but also believes in you.

When you realize that Kermit the Frog did a Ted Talk
All I heard was Jordan Peterson.
That's pretty bold and brash of you
When will Cookie Monster have a chance to speak at TED?
You can come up with some good subjects for that...
Meaning is the cookie of life
Not all cookies start with C
Life's not all just cookies
Philosophy of the cookie
Look up cookie monster john oliver
They did. He kept eating the microphone.
He's going to critique an orange, and why it reminds him of a cookie.
"Without ridiculous optimism, there's a good chance none of us would be here today."
Like he said that optimism came from your mom giving your dad another date!
I just listened to Kermit the Frog talk about existentialism.
Yep, but it's a great insight very real.
Every Jordan Peterson lecture
The audience doesn't seem like the quickest bunch.
>Tennessee
This was in Mississippi, that’s why LOL
Yes, if they would be, they would have gone before the show started! Dohohoho!
Alot of the audio in the audience at TED talks is taken out, it's pretty commonplace in things with live studio audiences as there are always people who laugh too long, yell, make comments and interrupt, etc etc.
Statler, is that you?
After he drank his ice tea he should've said "but that's none of my business..."
He did but in a different way.
he should have said "mmm... thats some good product placement!"
Can we all take a second to appreciate how the puppeteer included all the stammers and filler works like “uh” in Kermit’s movements.
I’m trying to figure out how the ice tea was “consumed.”
And had the stamina to keep his arm up for 20 minutes straight!
@@robertandhollyscorpiofan2697 The straw might've been connected to the table in some way.
Yeah, but unfortunately the puppeteer of Kermit here Steve Whitmire was fired by Disney and The Muppets Studio just for trying to keep Kermit and the rest of The Muppets true to Jim Henson's original vision.
I never knew it would come to this moment in my life where a talking frog would be so inspirational to me.
It's the Conspiracy of Craziness, after all

"I'm gonna go full Milli Vanilli" *starts lipsyncing*
That joke was underappreciated
"Have no fear of perfection. You will never reach it."
"Never worry about failure cuz it's gonna happen"
"So go ahead and take chances. And you might just find that what feels like failure isn't failure at all. It's what inspires you to dream even bigger."
Take chances, make mistakes, get messy
Who else is a little crushed that Jim isnt around to give a Ted talk?
He did give us his wisdom - we just have to look for it inside the whimsy.
And I’m pretty sure this Kermit is trying to speak based on his firsthand knowledge of Jim Henson.
@@MorganBondelid This is Steve Whitmire's Kermit, and yes, he is absolutely speaking from firsthand experience! Jim Henson and many of the other original Muppet performers (though Steve has been around long enough to be considered right up there with the originals) were like father figures to him.
Honestly, Kermit basically is the spiritual soul of Jim in a character, when played by the right person of course.
I will sit here and listen to Kermit, because as a child, I LISTENED to him.
This crowd did NOT appreciate this talk enough
I’m a simple person, I see talking green frog I cry
Man I miss Kermit's good voice.
I love the fact that every time Jim Henson's name and photo is brought up everybody's applauses for him. Respect to you Jim
IT's 2019 almost 2020 and im listening to a frog talking about creativity.
RUclips is recommending me this 4 years to late.
opportunity may run late, but whenever it finds you, it's on its own time schedule.
I just spent 23 minutes listening to advice from a talking frog. What a wonderful world we do live in.
45yrs old and STILL learning from Kermit.
...and a year later they fired him. For generations of us, Whitmire *was* Kermit. There will always be originalists who miss Jim, and rightly so - but Steve did a great job of capturing his spirit and his overall sound, and Jim would have been proud. It is, of course, inevitable that Kermit's voice must change from time to time - the nature of an immortal muppet. But the original replacement was absolutely necessary after Jim left us so soon.
Eventually corporate started taking Kermit in weird new directions with content that nobody liked, and needed a fall guy. You got to love how they pretended Whitmire had total creative control of the character, and that HE was the problem. As far as I'm concerned, Steve Whitmire was the voice of Jim Henson in those meetings where he clashed with the higher-ups and their writers, trying to keep Kermit where Jim would have wanted him, and they preferred to throw out the whole thing rather than listen. I'm sure Vogel is a good guy, but he sounds like a lazy coworker's impression of Kermit, both to people familiar with Henson AND Whitmire's character. Worst of all, his unnecessary replacement was a cynical executive decision simply so they could stray further from Jim's vision without pushback.
Steve was perfect.
About the audience, don't worry guys. Usually their reactions are lowered down and cut so that we can hear the speaker better in the video. I assure you, they were probably laughing alongside Kermit's masterful jokes.
Thank you sooo much for telling us!! I know I would be very, very, very disappointed if they paid absolutely no attention to this beautiful green frog. But thank you so much!! :))
listen to the frog.
Thanks Frank, it is good to get a creativity reminder every now & then. -Even better when it is from Kermit; I miss him & you! Hope you are well! -Stacy
LISTEN TO THE GREATNESS OF THE WISDOM FROG!!!!
Kermit is here to show that green is infact, a creative colour.
*"If necessity is the Mother of invention, then Creativity is the father"*
I think that'll be my Senior Quote
11:12
A note on TED Talks: they mute the audience reactions to keep the speaker clear, they pipe in a canned audience to make it seem like there are still people there without overpowering the person presenting. At least this is what I've heard
No Kermit, thank you. That was inspiring.
Kermit goes from teaching ABCs on Sesame Street from being a leader and a performer and making people laugh with The Muppets and now teaching about creativity on TED
I didn't think I could enjoy this more but the screen grab they chose for external links is one of Kermit taking a sip. "But that's none of my business." We have come full-circle.

I would absolutely be beside myself if I found out Kermit the Frog was hosting a local show or a big one like TED. I would pay any price.
“I’m just your everyday, average, talking frog...”
Did that astounding amphibian just call himself average?
Just over two minutes in and we have one pep talk, one physical assault on a talking frog and one Casablanca quote.
A dapper start if I do say.
“Conspiracy of craziness”
I’m not sure exactly why but that made me tear up. I think it’s easy to become really cynical in this world but when i find myself watching a talking frog in the middle of the night, the world seems just a little bit better.
Steve did Kermit so good. Jim picked a good choice and would be sad to see what happen.
So true
Steve was great, but sadly the "real" Kermit fades further away with every new performer. They don't teach people how to be a person like Jim Henson was.
Jim Henson; the best thing that happened to childrenns television.
Television full stop
The Universe. Full stop.
Kermit debuted on a show that aired at midnight. What kind of children do you think were watching at that time?
Stop being so narrow-minded about this medium.
matt k. Does debuting with a midnight show have anything to do with the massive impact later on his career?
Very true my friend. With seemingly simplistic ideas come vast wealth of great resources in stories and influences to the future generations to do great things.

We used to sing this on the piano every morning before class in my private school. Good memories.
Standing Ovation and a toast to the hand behind everything.. Kermit for President 2020!
Why was a legend like Kermit at TedX and not at actual TED?
That moment you see Kermit The Frog drinking ice tea..... It's SOOOOO CUUUTE!!!! ^-^
I think the best piece of advice Kermit could ever give on the big screen is: "Life's like a movie, write your own ending keep believing, keep pretending."
this is the best ted talk ever, period
i hope noone ruins that 42 unless and only unless it reaches 430
I don't care what anyone says. Kermit is real.
I had the hardest time accepting that Kermit the frog is not infact a walking talking living puppet. He is infact a normal puppet.
Take it further: It's a dude on a stool with his felt-covered arm stuck through a wall reading a script into a microphone headset for a room full of grown adults.
I felt Kermit when he was practically scared and kinda choked.
1:25- I love how he is more upset at Kermit having self doubt in himself instead of having to point out to Kermit that being a taking frog is pretty special in its own right.
Kermit the frog made me feel better about myself
Kermit has helped a lot of people feel better about them-selves.
I just spent over twenty minutes listening to a frog and now I'm happy with my day job.
Why is the audience so dead wtf
cherrybomb maybe their too busy silently beaming!
Still trying to figure out where the tea went!
A big issue with ted talks is that they never properly mic the audiences pick them up.
They all wanted to Kermit suicide
@@omikronweapon wow, you have issues buddy.
Jim Henson was Kermit and Kermit was Jim. He created the character back in the 50's on Sam and Friends. No one could replace him. Steve Whitmire did a decent job over the years. He just didn't have the gusto that Jim had with Kermit. Because a large part of Kermit was Jim's personality.
Steve was great with Kermit and even greater with Rizzo. I hate that he got fired.
And now we have somebody who’s already ruined other muppets!! Hooray for Matt Vogel (sarcastically). He’s made big bird sound like a post pubescent congested big bird, and now Kermit.
@@FreeSpiritPaulette I cant stand that Matt guy. Everytime I hear him I cringe at how bad he is.

“You’ll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.” -Rick from Casablanca
This video is absolutely inspirational. Everything he is saying is 100% true. I have a strong passion to create movies, to tell stories, to create. And when you make movies, you definitely need friends, because you're working as a team with the actors, producers, and cinematographers to help you tell your creative narrative. Creativity really does let you be a kid again. When you act, you're being a fool. But you're being a fool who can make others go through any emotion you want them to go through. Without creativity, where would we be? We don't need any of this to survive as a species, but we do it because it's fun, we're passionate about it. I will always remember that sentence: "not doing it is not an option." You truly are a great speaker, Kermit. Thank you. 😊

I love how effective Kermit is. He can directly discuss the efforts of 'behind the scenes' people who help to bring it all together; including one man who "has a hand in everything I do."
All this without diminishing the suspension of disbelief. That's the creative genious of Jim Henson's legacy, the power of puppeteering and the magic that is Kermit The Frog and the Muppets. Pure gold at the end of the rainbow.
